Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Price Has Been Confirmed

SalvorHardin

@JohnnyMind
Nintendo and its developers aren’t really facing those difficulties in any significant sense, in fact it’s quite the opposite. Their success has led them to push these pricing strategies simply because they believe they can get away with it due to the massive successes they have enjoyed with ease during the Switch 1 era, success that most companies could only dream of. If you genuinely cared about supporting developers in need, your money would be better spent on games from studios that are actually struggling, of which there are countless right now.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Includes Support For Variable Refresh Rate Technology

SalvorHardin

“ Furthermore, VRR support has been added, enabling more accurate reproduction of the original arcade game’s experience."”
Curious what they mean about this, some arcade games would run at oddball frame rates in the 50-60hz range due to the monitors they used, not sure what Ridge Racer was locked to but having VRR means it can natively run at that instead of having a periodic stutter due to frame pacing.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Confirmed For Nintendo Switch 2

SalvorHardin

What’s the point of limiting themselves ever more than the last game especially when they don’t have the benefit of people assuming this will be “canon” and not some alternative universe thing like last time? TOTK beats you over the head with the imprisoning war as you have certain characters telling you the same thing about it over and over and little of it is actually interesting.

Re: Video: Metroid Prime 4 Looks Great, But Here's Why The Latest Trailer Isn't Switch 2 Footage

SalvorHardin

The funniest part about this is John pointing out a tradition that Nintendo has done only twice in its entire history for contextual reasons that just aren’t there for Prime 4, they showed off the game last week instead of waiting for a very obvious reason, it might see some Switch 2 improvements but this isn’t a TP/BOTW situation they have clearly decided it’s not going to push hardware sales at launch the way those two did hence why they showed it last week on Switch 1.

Re: Random: Sega Surprises Sonic The Hedgehog Fans With Official Timeline

SalvorHardin

Watch this get walked back almost immediately, I imagine the Sega people outside of Japan are pretty annoyed about this but I’m not even sure why Sega Japan would even make this considering that they’ve been at the forefront of not caring about Sonic’s timeline.
@Hydra_Spectre
This is a good reason why you really don’t want to do stuff like this as it shows that the idea of canon in those cases like with Prime or the comics is basically a form of marketing to make them feel more important than they are to a segment of the fanbase who buy into the idea of canon.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Reveals "Most Popular Characters" From Network Test

SalvorHardin

@JR150
Dream Team counts whether you like it or not, it’s got almost as much if not more content than Colors and more genuine 3D platforming than the boost era games. I’d have to know more about their metrics like how many people exactly were playing this beta and their demographics before using it to consider the demand for this character, on the character select screen she’s right below Sonic and i’m guessing the results would be different if she was on the other side of the screen instead if we assume people were just flippantly selecting characters who weren’t Sonic and Shadow.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Acknowledges Closed Network Test Player Feedback

SalvorHardin

@ChakraStomps
Did you play the beta because it’s obvious what the problems are. This being made by a arcade racing dev shows unfortunately, one would originally get hyped over this considering the history of Sega’s arcade racing games but this isn’t a arcade racer this is a arcade kart racer so it’s designed to be chaotic and claustrophobic in terms of track design and how you can never put much distance between yourself and the rest of the pack, If the final game is unchanged people will get bored with it quickly because of this compared to Mario Kart 8 where its finer balance has likely played a significant role in its evergreen status.

Re: New 18+ LEGO Mario Kart Set Is A Better Build Than We Expected

SalvorHardin

@IceEarthGuard
It’s because it’s part of the adult geared creator car line which have an enormous amount of small pieces and sometimes fiddlly building techniques using technic pieces, they are basically scale model quality cars just look at their Lamborghini Countach uses 466 less pieces than this MK set
a kid that has built a lot of sets and knows to keep the parts organized in bins shouldn’t have any issues but a kid who just dumps them all on their bed will.

Re: "The Answer Was Always No" - Ex-Nintendo Employee On Zelda Movie Pitches

SalvorHardin

Miyamoto is probably at the stage of his life where this stuff appeals to him on some level and the Mario movie opened the flood gates for that going forward, not sure If its as simple to say it’s about ego it could even be something like feeling like this validates his life’s work which wouldn’t surprise me it’s not uncommon for people to think outrageously highly about Hollywood to the point where they see other mediums as inferior or unable to surpass it in perceived credibility, this makes sense when you consider that he basically views games as toys.

Re: Hands On: Absolum - Dead Cells Meets Streets Of Rage 4 In An Effortlessly Stylish 'Rogue 'Em Up'

SalvorHardin

This looks really cool here’s hoping it doesn’t fall into the trap that almost all rogue do where the bosses have a bazillion HP and effortlessly spam bullet hell and full screen AOE shockwaves but I’m guessing it will as it’s as ingrained into as genre as much as irreverent tone and humor. Guard Crush working on it though is a great sign though, SOR4 has incredibly solid fighting game style fundamentals that made its rogue survival mode a joy to play.

Re: Pokémon Champions Reveals Multiplayer Battle Mode Options

SalvorHardin

That picture really shows how painfully wide and narrow phones have become, they are awful to use in landscape for games because of that especially with how the edge to edge screen means your palm will touch it constantly hence the awkward grip in that photo. The 16:9 era of giant phones had the best ergonomics.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds 'Closed Network Test' Are In

SalvorHardin

It’s less like the previous games or Mario Kart 8 it’s more like a mobile F2P game that constantly bombards you with feedback to keep you engaged that’s why there’s nonstop chaos with its items and never really being able to create much separation from opponents, you’d think having some of the Sega racing vets working on this would mean more of a focus on rewarding skillful driving but for now at least there’s less of a focus on it than Sumo’s trilogy or even MK8 which found a great balance.
The music is pure bland noise, the “epic” choir for the final lap sounds AI generated.
@BlueBCA
Hopefully they listen to the feedback but with the things the gear system rewards doing I’m afraid they’ll consider everything working as intended and won’t really alter it much.

Re: Call Of Duty Appears To Be Teasing Tony Hawk's Return

@m0i
Its no surprise that the crowd who built their whole personality around mocking and belittling people who had trouble with Eternal are going nuts over that and are using that angle as a proxy to wage war on what they feel is a personal attack against them, they absolutely lost their minds over the changes Eternal got around the time of it’s second DLC episode.

Re: Nintendo Has Renewed Some Trademarks

SalvorHardin

@SalvorHardin
If anyone is wondering about this here’s people from the 90’s Nintendo newsgroup doing this
https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.video.nintendo/search?q=%E2%80%9C%20Seal%20of%20Quality%E2%80%9C
The earliest example being form 1993:
“The original Baseball Stars was not an official Nintendo licensed product (in fact, I forget the manufacturer). The updated version is by a different company (in name at least) and has the coveted Nintendo Seal of Quality (sarcasm intended!).“
Here’s one from 1990:
“ I for one am tired of Nintendo's crummy attitude and their way of business. Nintendo's seal of quality ended up being downright meaningless with the junk they were spewing out and calling games for the NES. They inflate prices, threaten the stores that sell their products, and they think they can steer any company they deal with in any direction they please... I'm tired of their lawsuits against companies with innovative ideas, tired of dealing with them in any shape or form.”

@The21zonz
He wanted to that was his big goal in blowing nearly or maybe even more than 100 billion dollars of daddy’s money acquiring all those devs and publishers and now daddy and his buddies aren’t happy so whatever Phil wants to do is irrelevant now.
@Bunkerneath
They’re in a better position that Sega was considering the massive amount of IPs, devs and even entire publishers they own! This is a large reason why the top execs at MS are forcing their hand in this, the console department is a top in the bucket compared to what they can get out of focusing on publishing across everything.
@The21zonz
It’s not large and dedicated enough to keep things going the way it has been not with the amount of money that division is burning.

Re: Alarmo Now Available To Everyone On The My Nintendo Store (US)

SalvorHardin

Feels even more so that this exists to appease the sect at Nintendo who would wanted Switch 2 to weird or not even a Switch 2, making Iwata’s quality of life device dream come true probably satisfied them a lot. Timing was appropriate too in catching the public off guard with something strange that’s then followed up by the safe Switch 2.

Re: PlayStation Vita Exclusive 'Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Battle Destiny' Is Getting Remastered For Switch

SalvorHardin

@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot
It’s as far as from G Gundam as possible, it’s basically a remix of the first two Gundam series (0079 and Zeta) with the most samey bland painfully early 00’s anime character designs you’ve ever seen coupled with that digital art look that era is infamous for, the hilarious thing is that the movie released 20 years later doesn’t really fix any of this and was still successful.
