Re: Rumour: Sony Apparently Has Gran Turismo Running On Switch 2, Just Don't Expect To See It

SalvorHardin

“One popular theory seems to be it's testing the waters as rumours circulate about the company potentially releasing a new PlayStation handheld. In other words, this could be research and development, and nothing more.”
It’s absolutely this it’s why he says I don't think it's going to come to the Switch 2, but I heard it was running on it”
@Dee123
People are still paranoid about this? You can find people estimating the total sales being between 159.2m and 161.9m as far back as 2018

Jim Ryan sucks but this wasn’t just him making things up to move the goalpost.

It’s just trying to make an event out of this to make the bare minimum effort they’ve done seem more than it is.
@Coalescence
If you’re saying that people are extremely compulsive, obsessive and prone to peer pressure making them think they have to blow hundreds of hours doing that then yes you’re correct.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0.1 Patch Notes - Switch 2 And Switch Bug Fixes & Adjustments

SalvorHardin

@Jeronan
It could have had the greatest name and marketing in the world and the Wii audience still wasn’t going to bite because the concept just didn’t appeal to them, the tablet was an absolute nonstarter yet it was the big selling point. 3DS had much clearer marketing but that didn’t save it from it’s disastrous first year, it wasn’t pulling in the DS audience with it’s 3D feature and the games were largely disconnected from the DS generation. So what did Nintendo do? 3D became greatly deemphasized and games became more line with experiences from the previous DS with ports of 64/Gamecube games become a rarity despite the launch making it seem like they’d be a constant. Outside of massively dropping the price of Wii U and replacing the tablet with an upgraded Wiimote course correction was nearly impossible and Nintendo most likely had projections telling them within its first year.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Nintendo Classics Virtual Boy Launch Games?

SalvorHardin

@SplatRay001
They have to be when Nintendo has forced a separate purchase to play these, when you’re throwing down 25 or 99 bucks instead of realizing that Nintendo is playing you for a fool with this requirement you have to convince yourself to eat, sleep and drink the hype for the bloody Virtual Boy. The whole thing is probably a experiment to see if they can attach arbitrary accessory requirements to future games when it’s obvious the requirement isn’t necessary.

Re: Free-To-Play Racer Asphalt Legends Gets A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

SalvorHardin

I think it’s also them looking at how it’s handled on PS5 where it be confusing at times dealing with games that have a PS4 version, you have to deal with bringing up a system menu to switch versions and the PSN store listings are messy where it has a drop down menu that includes demos and bundles as each version of the game. Nintendo went with a method that makes it obvious you’re using and buying a NS2 version game and they probably think it’s good marketing for games at this point in the system’s life when people are hungry for dedicated NS2 games.

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 3 Will Be The Last Kiwami Game, Says RGG Studio Head

SalvorHardin

@Wexter
Shenmue was a AAA game of it’s day it had a huge scope telling a continuous story across unique locations using full voice acting, Yakuza lives off asset/location reuse to sustain itself and meet a regular release schedule and heavily uses text box/emotes for storytelling along with so many other JRPG conventions that they finally made it turned based, that’s very far removed from what Shenmue was doing.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Switch 2 Edition + Meetup In Bellabel Park

SalvorHardin

@Lizuka
The effects drag it into 3D Mario territory when they introduce some one off element that becomes the sole focus of the level especially when it changes the entire playstyle, NSMBU has a lot of wacky and surprising levels too but it does so within the regular Mario gameplay making it closer at doing what SMB3 did than Wonder, a lot of this is lost in discussions because the visual impact in Wonder is much more potent and memorable, U only has a only has a few brief instances of achieving that like it’s Starry Night level.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations

SalvorHardin

@Metazoxan
I remember how people initially thought crossworlds meant the game was going to pull from all kinds like Sonic universes and timelines with no restrictions, but instead it’s just that massive whatever of a Netflix show and the island from Superstars, if you wanted the movie characters or anything that would endanger the precious canon too bad, it’s why they tossed in that island but not Trip or other classic characters because the canon is sacred law apparently now.

Re: Nintendo Announces Launch Line-Up For Switch Online Virtual Boy

SalvorHardin

If they really commit to having this not work in docked in a 2D single screen mode out despite the trailers showing that it would work fine then I’m convinced this is all a big social experiment that will dictate some future decision that’s even more egregious about locking a game behind a needless accessory.

Re: The Fable Reboot Is Reportedly "Under Consideration" For Switch 2

SalvorHardin

@Smithicus
You mean this new one? It’s so overly obsessed with looking realistic and cutting edge that it makes things that aren’t as obsessively focused like facial and movement animations hard not to notice. There’s also something about the characters that looks unmistakably like cosplay rather than ones who’d actually live in that world. The original games sidestepped all of this by having an exaggerated cartoonish art style that fit the whimsical vibes wonderfully, but it seems nowadays a lot of Western devs struggle at doing this without defaulting to looking like Overwatch or Fortnite, so they avoid it.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Cheap Upgrade, But Lacking Substance

SalvorHardin

Nintendo’s devs keep seeing the mouse as an afterthought, especially here where it feels like you’re using one of those mouse-to-game controller devices that just translate mouse movement to the analog stick with no UI/UX adjustments to really make it worthwhile. I don’t think the devs have much confidence, and I can’t blame them since the Joy-Con mouse is very awkward to use. Welcome Tour couldn’t even think of fun ways to sell players on it and instead made a bunch of infuriating 00’s flash game-tier mini-games.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 21.2.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

SalvorHardin

@Noelemahc
Only if there’s some performance cost even when it’s not in active use, 2 of the 8 CPU cores are available to devs, but if one was freed up, games would have to be updated to make use of it, I believe. If I recall, tensor cores are used for camera face tracking and background removal in game chat; microphone noise reduction might as well, and I assume it reserves some of the tensor 48 cores for those purposes. Freeing them would improve DLSS performance, but it’s hard to know to what degree, but I’m guessing it would be negligible.

Re: Nintendo Suggests Metroid Prime 4's Tortured Development Meant It Was "Divorced From The Changing Of Times"

SalvorHardin

The other part of the BOTW equation and its popularity was allowing freedom of problem solving and respecting the player by not assaulting them with unavoidable NPCs constantly explaining things and getting in the way. Both of those are 100% compatible with Prime, yet for 4 it’s bizarrely attached to that old era of 3D Zelda that prompted the changes that BOTW made to achieve its phenomenal success.
