Pikachu’s face wouldn’t look nearly as ugly as it does if it weren’t for the other sets that absolutely nail their faces, Pikachu looks like a user made set the kind you see being sold by the knockoff companies.
@shoeses It’s a kart racer you should never want to take your foot off the gas, Sumo’s games nailed this aspect. In Mario Kart you never have to do this even on 200CC it’s why it has brake drifting.
@The_Nintendo_Expat The poll is working as intended unfortunately, it’s the kind of thing I expect a forum to pull not a website like this. Regardless time is going to be brutal to this game.
D-pad caps work a lot better with the larger JC2 buttons unlike JC1 where random diagonal inputs were unavoidable. Not sure why he went to what was probably an absurd amount of of work to mod that grip when he could have gotten a custom dpad shell.
The other part of the BOTW equation and its popularity was allowing freedom of problem solving and respecting the player by not assaulting them with unavoidable NPCs constantly explaining things and getting in the way. Both of those are 100% compatible with Prime, yet for 4 it’s bizarrely attached to that old era of 3D Zelda that prompted the changes that BOTW made to achieve its phenomenal success.
@YinYangYoshi Well they also dropped enough gameplay footage that makes it clear it’s just more 11 instead of getting hopes up that’s it’s something more like some crossover game, that’s what Taisen supposedly was but that’s canned and they’re too afraid to actually do a X9.
@OldGamer999 Widescreen would require a lot of work involving hacking the game to force them to render everything in widescreen without culling and glitches, even then UI and other prerendered can’t be forced into widescreen without ugly stretching so there’s zero chance that they’d ever implement this.
@AussieMcBucket I think it would be funnier if this becomes the next Prime Trilogy port where people swear this year is the year of COD on Switch right up to the last year of this “legally binding” deal.
@BLD Ah yes the game where you have to actively decide to engage with NPCs who are often as vague, mad and odd as the rest of the game, totally the same thing as this game where it’s about being forced to engage with NPCs who have some of the most video game writing you’ve ever seen as you plow down some hallways with them.
The JP box is more evocative of the actual in game tables the US looks like an unfinished draft of it. The contrast and colors are like a real pinball in a dark room it really pops.
You can now have Kamek orb only races which not only let you unlock most of the characters from it in minutes but will also turn the race into utter chaos as endless streams of Kamek spam character changes and hazards.
“ Myles is essentially Prime 4’s Navi from Ocarina of Time - always there to nudge you in the right direction. It’s not as frequent as you might fear — once you’ve heard him once, that’ll be it until your next major outing on Vi-O-La — but I’d love it if Retro Studios could add the ability to mute him completely. Sometimes I just want to ride around in peace, y’know?” Did Retro have their fingers shoved in their ears since 2017 or what?
@Elektrogeist1287 There’s nothing to confirm or deny how trivial this element is, so maybe wait a week before saying people have a mental illness because they annoy you, or better yet, don’t.
“ built a "dedicated algorithm that keeps VRR enabled even at 30 fps" this detail confirms that SW2 dev kits don’t have LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) built in so devs have to implement it on their own, there’s been a lot of confusion about this especially since Welcome Tour has a demo that showcases it .
@TheExile285 Well see HW isn’t about just having fun with the Zelda concept and it’s cast of fan favorites it’s about telling canonical stories that must abide by the limitations that brings 🙃
@batmanbud2 So are SNES and most N64 games as well and they benefit from sharper scaling of pixels and the CRT filters greatly benefit from having more pixels to work with. There’s little reason for them not to just update the resolution for SW2 to match those, even the UI is still unchanged.
@SneakyLink Yep but both of them haven’t received a resolution upgrade on SW2 like SNES/N64 got, it was reported a lot that GBA got one but this is incorrect.
@Drago201 It has hardware decompression like PS5 but the file size comparisons aren’t making it clear how much it’s helping compared to PS5 where it’s been obvious.
Formless is a bit too harsh of a word but it’s not that far off, the whole game is centered around one button that does nearly everything with the game automating a ton of other actions in a breezy formless way.
Is tech is indeed disappointing if one of the things keeping performance from imploding is having flat buildings, unless they invest more into the tech I think things are going to get rough again performance wise when they start targeting Switch 2 exclusively.
@WiltonRoots Don’t worry the backlash against the backlash is already here, I just saw someone claim that Metroid has never been about isolation and it’s just something that the Internet made up because that’s what having your brain default to backlash against the backlash mode does to someone. By the end of the day you can expect even more bizarre and asinine efforts.
@JohnnyMind Marketing would also be keenly aware that a character like this wouldn’t go over very well with Metroid fans even if the devs think it’s great so it not surprising that we’re only just now hearing about it.
Why do people defend difficulty like this as old school when actual old games often had difficulty options and cheat codes? I know the answer is because people just like feeling superior to others and talking down to them when they have problems with difficulty, and that’s influenced developers as well, but hey, I just thought I’d ask anyway.
@SillyG The pre-rendered game art and this movie are both safe and overly focused tested, think how the characters on Mario Wonder’s box art look vs the in-game models. We had well over a decade of 2D Mario looking and animating like complete flavorless junk because it was seemingly afraid to not look like the pre-rendered art.
@Yosher Well just look at GTA6 which got delayed again today a game that flaunts individually rendered arm hairs and lavishly detailed animations (that will take complete priority over responsive controls), it’s everything that’s sick about the industry but R* has the privilege of not having to worry about just how massively bloated the budget likely is due to the obscene amount of money it will make day one unlike companies like Square Enix who are being backed into a corner.
@nhSnork It should be around 54GB if it’s using the same assets as PS5 which is very acceptable considering the amount of stuff they’ve added over the years.
@mookoo
Why, when it’s just become more true over time? I agree the concept was old hat during the last decade. Then Disney happened, and they immediately started shoving in references and product placement to them into it, which has breathed new life into the idea of Zombie Simpsons because of the sheer, concentrated corporate cynicism of it all that the show in its prime would have savagely mocked.
Now with Disney, the show will never be allowed to end, and its diehard fanbase gets to experience their own mortality as they listen to the aging voice cast continue their unavoidable decline
I wonder if character customization was so limited in SV where you were permanently stuck looking like some 5 year old jobber in dopey school clothes so they could sell people on this game doing it properly.
@Truegamer79 The people saying that know what they’re talking about especially the ones who’ve been playing the games for decades you can’t write this stuff off by labeling it as “so called issues” especially when it’s able to be clearly demonstrated as factual. A lot of these issues are the same ones emulated collections and stand-alone releases by Digital Eclipse/Backbone have always suffered from going back to the 360/PS3 era, their emulation efforts can’t compare to Capcom’s fighting collections or the works of M2. Digital Eclipse tackling PS2 emulation would certainly be something considering the struggles they’re still having with emulating 90’s systems.
