Re: Gulikit Claims To Be The First Third Party Supporting Wake-Up Functionality On Switch 2

SalvorHardin

The protocol change is probably why they didn’t put out an update for the SW1 controllers, unless it’s hard coded then changing it would likely make it only able to wake SW2 and require another update to change it back for SW1. Why they didn’t make the console able to respond to both is the bigger question.
@Mz3player @TheMainMii
It’s a standard feature that goes back on to the Wii 19 years ago not sure why people are trying to downplay it as some hidden niche thing. Even the article does it by calling it “semi-essential”.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario Kart World

SalvorHardin

The free roam mode is pretty constrained shows a willingness to avoid copying what the rest of the genre is doing but if what you like doing is collecting things and completing challenges then it’s not making the most of the large world it has, there’s probably less of them than a single kingdom in Oddsey has. The controls and move set have this feel like Oddsey where they are very fluid and allow to pull off lots of cool combos but unlike Oddsey they aren’t feeling like you’re constantly being rewarding for using them, something akin to balloon world would be a prefect addition.

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube) - A Timeless Treasure

SalvorHardin

Gotta love the timeless appeal of mashing A through hours of text boxes in that era of Zelda where who knows how long it takes before the game actually lets you do what you want. Even better when it forces you into a stealth segment you can instantly fail. Hard to imagine, back then, that they’d ever make a game that quickly presents its end objective and gives you the freedom to tackle it on your own terms. The dogma of that era was so entrenched that even small things like stopping the game to explain what a rupee is every time you reload a save felt absurdly baked into the formula.

Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?

SalvorHardin

@UltimateOtaku91
Yes they it’s a quite a lot more power efficient than the Switch 1 especially the 2017 OG model, SW1 OG would max out I believe at 8.9W undocked vs the 10W of SW2 but those efficiencies are being used to drive a much more powerful system with a larger brighter screen so when it’s being maxed nonstop out the battery life is closer to that 2017 model when maxed out as well.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Comes To Switch And Switch 2 In 2025

SalvorHardin

@MirrorFate2
It’s already including games up 2003 which might just be the GBA games rather than the the console DA so there’s high likelihood it won’t be “komplete”. They could include all that and there’s a ton of ports and games people will tear into this for not having someone for example will act like not including Special Forces is horrendous and make that their hill to die on.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Chip "Unlike Anything We've Ever Built Before" Says Nvidia CEO

SalvorHardin

@Getagrip101
A publicly traded company, wouldn’t intentionally throw away money and years of development on hardware like that . The Wii U was a mistake, just like the early struggles of the 3DS. But unlike the 3DS, they couldn’t course correct to save it and they were already struggling with HD game development so they moved on.
What worked for them in the end was timing. Mobile tech was getting better and better after 2012, and they were able to go to a hybrid design with the Switch. That wasn’t some big plan from the beginning of the Wii U. It was smart thinking. You can still respect Iwata for helping Nintendo through that transition without changing history to pretend that every step was planned.

Re: Now Switch 2 Setup Walkthrough Videos Are Popping Up Online

SalvorHardin

Surprised I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere but
https://www.nintendo.com/eu/media/downloads/legal_1/information_for_online_retailers_and_distributors/nintendo_switch_20/MXAS_BEE_S_E5G_WWWBooklet1_1.pdf
“ The screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage.
Do not peel it off.”
So it has a glass screen with a plastic film just like the OLED

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev NetherRealm Confirms It's Shifting Focus To "Next Project"

SalvorHardin

I’d love that instead of Injustice 3 they did a general DC comics fighter designed around capturing the iconic appeal of its characters the way Capcom did with Marvel, comic/animated aesthetic with a new approach to move animations to address their glaring problems in almost all their other games, no edgy story in fact there’s no budget eating cutscene driven story and instead there’s more SP modes that don’t feel like a miserable grind. It’s hard to imagine NRS actually being able to pull it off though.

Re: Two Samus Figures Based On Metroid: Other M Are Making A Return In 2026

SalvorHardin

Guess they’re gonna do a Prime 4 Samus instead of a reissue of Prime 3 Samus, hopefully it will have option parts for green or purple to make it a good alternative to it, Prime 3 Samus goes for insane amounts on the secondary market like 2 or 3 times more than this Other M ever does.
@Yoshi3
Can’t say I care to look into your positing history but the whole legacy sequel thing it has going on and making the beloved main character weak and useless at times probably has a lot in common with whatever you’re referring to.

Re: Fortnite Devs Hit With Unfair Labour Practice Filing Following AI Darth Vader Fiasco

@Purgatorium
Yeah it’s this
“ However, we must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the work of matching Darth Vader's iconic rhythm and tone in video games.”
But people are starting to get in that backlash against the backlash mindset when it comes to AI so it gets ignored.

Re: Nintendo: "Appetite" For Mario Kart And Series' Accessibility Makes It Ideal For Switch 2's Launch

SalvorHardin

@Emacster
They’ve shown patterns of being afraid of titles eating into sales of other ones, even VC/NSO hence why they dole additions to it so slowly and they seem really concerned about making sure MKW doesn’t have any competition outside of Kong, this is why Prime 4 doesn’t have a release date instead of being treated like TP/BOTW, it might not be a system seller but it would still balance out the launch. I’d understand if Prime 4 won’t go gold until the fall but we know they don’t mind hanging onto completed game to slot into their schedule at their leisure.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: F-Zero X

SalvorHardin

Maybe it’s just something wonky with the scans but I like the contrast the Western box has way better, on the Japanese box only the blue falcon stands out while the other machines get lost in all the red and orange going on.

Re: Video: Nintendo Gives Us A Closer Look At Switch 2's GameCube Controller

SalvorHardin

That ZL is better eye rolling I doubt anyone who isn’t diehard about this being authentic would complain about it being a mirror of the regular Z button, in fact I think most people would be happy if it had a completely redesigned Z button as it’s awful and unergonomic on a controller that has otherwise great ergonomics, it feels so bad to press with no real feedback that they put that little bump on it so you’ll even know you’re pressing on it instead of the space between it and the trigger.

Re: 12 Switch Games Are Getting Free Switch 2 Upgrades, Here's What You Can Expect

SalvorHardin

@PikaPhantom
The main issue is that it uses double buffering that means that any time the framerate dips below 60fps it falls back to 30fps or even to 20 or 15, this avoids stuttering and delivers proper frame pacing at the cost of how jarring this back and forth change in fluidity is. Like I’ve mentioned before VRR solves this and hopefully they can implemented on updated Switch 1 games or simply just have it work with all games by default.

Re: Nintendo Unveils Diddy Kong's Brand New Design

SalvorHardin

People think this about is replacing the Rare designs with more “hip” ones but I think it’s more than that, they’re using those two because they’re too scared of the reaction if they went though with their dream of pushing the movie design elements all over the core Mario cast, they’ve let the success of the movie to go their head and are probably salivating over reshaping the games in it’s image in minor and major way.
