Re: Analyst Fears U.S. Tariffs Could Spell Disaster For Physical Games

Obi-WonTheHighGround

@Not_Soos @TenEighty Just continue believing, thinking, acting as you do, and voting your choice. Everyone has their reasons for voting a certain way., and obviously not everyone is going to agree on the reasoning. I'm proud that I voted for President Trump, and I pray for our country.

As for tariffs on games, and hardware, there are far more valuable things to be concerned about than an already-expensive pass time.

Re: Nintendo Is Discontinuing Gold Points, One Of The Switch's Best Incentives

Obi-WonTheHighGround

My initial thought is what the article mentioned; people saving gold coins for specific high-profile releases, and even though it's only a few dollars here, and there, Nintendo has been seeing less on those high-profile releases than otherwise. I also suspect, again as the article mentioned, this system is probably being scrapped as the Switch 2 becomes Nintendo's new, and current system.

Re: Super Mario NES Banger Joins Nintendo's Music App, Here's The Full Tracklist

Obi-WonTheHighGround

It would be great if Nintendo went to the the trouble of licensing the soundtracks from artists doing covers of their music, such as the Super Mario Bros. 3 Akihabara Electric Circus, or The Fantastic World Of Super Mario Bros. 3! Same for Metroid, Kid Icarus, The Legend Of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Land, etc. A lot of those albums came out when Nintendo was still white-hot popular in the late 80s, and early 90s.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Brothership Version 1.0.1 Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Obi-WonTheHighGround

I wonder about saved game files that have already performed the glitch, and saved the early access to the 5 power taps. I wonder if those files will get modified by the update to remove the taps, or if those files will have complications later in-game for accessing something earlier than intended. Probably neither of those things will happen. Interesting to speculate, though.

Re: New Nintendo Patent Seems To Confirm Mouse Functionality For Switch 2

Obi-WonTheHighGround

I think at this point, Nintendo knows they can't really do "major surprises", because they have already shown us the console's form factor, and they did so, because information leakers were starting to get ahead of them. In addition to the fact they are well aware most potential consumers want basically a more-powerful Switch, and all these leaks, there is only so much they can surprise. That's why the reveal of the console is essentially similar in form factor to the OLED Switch.

Edit: The "mice" Joycons, and DK design were more of a surprise in that 3d-render video, than the console form factor, for examples. Anything else they can surprise with will be confirmation of hardware internals, operating system, and UI (User Interface).

Re: Nintendo Confirms Timings For The Switch 2 Direct In April

Obi-WonTheHighGround

In all seriousness, I won't be surprised if Alarmo owners report unique activity from the clocks on the days of a Direct, or specific Directs, like this one revealing information on Switch 2. Or, also on the actual release date of the console.

April 02nd is a Wednesday. That Thursday, and Friday, internet gaming news sites will be releasing article after article, and the Internet will be all over the Switch, for easy clicks. 55 days in between. 57 to go, only if you count today, and the day of the Direct. So, roughly 2 months.

Re: Nintendo Lawyer Breaks Down What Makes An Emulator Illegal

Obi-WonTheHighGround

U.S.A. copyright law doesn't prohibit emulators, and part of what keeps an emulator legal is not using copyright bios code, or any other copyright code in the system being emulated. Also, software backups are allowed. The distribution, or sale of these backups would be the violation.

Edit: Again, for a time, BLEEM! was once a PS emulator that was sold in stores. It operated by using different methods to play the discs. It used no copyright code, and therefore was legal.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday

Obi-WonTheHighGround

@Bolt_Strike That's what I mean. Rumors are everywhere, and many of the people doing the predicting are not right enough times to be considered credible. As for Kit & Krysta, I was being sarcastic. I do pay attention to things they say, while at the same time knowing, like you said, they haven't been with Nintendo for some time, and even when they were, they only had so much in-sight on Nintendo.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday

Obi-WonTheHighGround

While these leaks are exhausting, it's because there is always so much potential factual information, that it gets exhausting keeping up with all of it. Otherwise, yeah, I do as some of you do, and count rumors/leaks as potentially true, rather than gospel to hang onto.

On a less serious note: If Kit, & Krysta say they have inside information on the Switch reveal, that's information to take to the bank. 😁 More seriously, I won't be surprised if they do actually say something about Switch 2 eventually.

Re: GameStop's Internal Database Lists Multiple 'Switch 2' Accessory SKUs

Obi-WonTheHighGround

@Anti-Matter I feel that scenario would be possible if Nintendo were to have their hardware commercially available not long after announcing it. While that is possible, I don't think that is what is happening here. I believe when Sega was still in the console business, they did something like that with either the Saturn, or one of the MegaDrive/Genesis add-ons, and that it didn't turn out well.

@liljmoore They get to make themselves into a content creator, famous among certain communities for leaks that turn out to be true. They build a YouTube, or TikTok career on it.

Re: Anniversary: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Now Six Years Old

Obi-WonTheHighGround

Smash just can't continue expanding each entry. That is not financially feasible for Nintendo, unless all content in-game belongs to them. They would have to keep paying license fees, and realistically, those fees are contractually limited to a certain date, and time. Nintendo isn't going to continuous pay out.

The other problems are space limitations per whatever media Nintendo will release games on. The games inevitably have to cut some content, however to Nintendo's benefits, these concepts can be reused in the same series, and/or different series. For example, Smash trophies can exist as a separate thing on a console, from Smash, and the console user could customize what trophies they want displaying, etc.

Smash 6 may carry the entirety of Ultimate, though it's unlikely Nintendo will pay those license fees continuously to a Smash 7.

Re: Random: Owners Of A Nintendo Frying Pan Are Being Warned Not To Use It

Obi-WonTheHighGround

Sure! Nothing can go wrong with a probably-cheaply produced item, probably produced no less, by a co. that normally doesn't deal/manufacture/sell that kind of item, and with less-than safe, and satisfactory end-product standards. When it comes to stuff like this, it's always better for a co. to stay, and operate in their own specific wheelhouse. There are other, cheaper, safer ways to include a bonus item for the new Mario Party Jamboree.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms He's Working On A New Game

Obi-WonTheHighGround

He sleeps as much as former (maybe also next) President Donald Trump, and Elon Musk. Maybe he needs Alarmo? Lol

What if, Nintendo were to do a remake of Melee, similar to The Thousand-Year Door? While the Switch could probably handle high-level emulation of the PowerPC GameCube, it would take some very good file compression technology to prevent even a hypothetical small NSO library of GCN titles from eating up much of the Switch internal memory.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With Two More Titles

Obi-WonTheHighGround

Yeah, I'll be checking them out, even though I'm not the biggest F-Zero fan. On the subject of NSO, I wonder if Super Smash Bros. will eventually be added to the N64 library? Satellaview? N64DD? Zapper/Super Scope support? Fully featured Super Gameboy?

I also think, though could be wrong, that GameCube won't be coming to NSO, until the next, or following console, because even compressing those games still makes many titles in that library almost a gigabyte. A group of those titles would significantly eat up Switch internal memory. On the other hand, if Nintendo can come up with stellar compression, or doesn't mind their hardware being known to require additional hardware (sd card) just for a digital game library, maybe an NSO GameCube could still happen before the next console. Doubtful.

Re: Deals: Nintendo's 2024 Christmas Switch Console Bundles Are Now Available To Buy

Obi-WonTheHighGround

Another way to view this, is Nintendo is playing Animal Crossing with the clock, and calendar set ahead. From the Moon Gazing to now expecting to see Jack soon enough. Just don't have anything valuable on your person, when he comes.

I think Nintendo is really pleasantly pushing for the finish line in 1st place. To keep to what they have said, they only have to reveal information on the Switch successor before the end of the 24/25 fiscal year, which is March 31st, 2025. It is doubtful they're holding out that long. I'm sure they just want to maximize Christmas sales, because even if the successor doesn't release next year, the fact that most know it is on the way is going to eventually slow down Switch sales. So, Nintendo is trying to get every last bit they can, before they know they have to move on.
