Nintendo should at least have no problem porting their own 3DS titles to Switch for the remainder of its lifespan. We already know Dark Moon is coming to Switch. Hopefully, 3D Land will, too.
Sadly, currently many aspects of the Wii, 3DS, & Wii U are not really supported, even as legacy features. Miis, Photo/video channel (Wii), the polls, and contest channels on Wii (Check Mii Out, Everybody Votes), Miiverse, Nintendo Video channel (3DS), the video chat feature on WU (don't remember the name), detailed play history (Wii), note functionality (Wii/3DS), etc.
@hhowitzer I'm not entirely sure. I believe the newest fix is either using an external harddrive/flashdrive to run the WU, or soldering a pcb board to the main board, replacing the internal memory. I'm sorry I don't have any specific info for you, besides that.
Swivel connectors can easily become a problem of its own. Specifically, a connection problem, or worse, short out other components in the dock, or any electrical devices connected to it (tv via HDMI, physically wired controllers/headphones/mics/keyboards/etc.).
Like the article, and everyone commenting, this seems more likely for the Switch successor. I could see Nintendo releasing a new model Switch with a swivel, though that is a long-shot, and unlikely.
@-wc- You're welcome. I'm not the biggest fan of limited runs, either. In those situations, the scalpers will usually have already pounced. That's one area where I think Nintendo could change for the better.
Transfer Pak support, Nintendo? It'd be nice if it is included, and just not highlighted in this presentation. Unfortunately, I feel it won't be included, especially because I feel Nintendo would highlight that feature in the presentation.
Nintendo's programmers need to include the various feature sets of their retro hardware. Power Pad, Super GameBoy, SGB2, Super Scope, Controller Pak, Transfer Pak, etc.
@Ralizah @-wc- Super Mario Galaxy in 3D All-Stars is recompiled code to accommodate the upscale, retexturing, and changing some controls from the Wiimote.
A sequel, or a trilogy. I'm fine with that. Pacing is important. Not utilizing mechanics for a sequel, when there's room to do so, or overusing - both extremes are not good. Odyssey is a perfect example. Cappy could be in a sequel, though we're too far into the latter of the Switch lifespan. Nintendo is most likely saving gameplay ideas for the next system's Super Mario Bros. title.
@SwitchForce You link your Nintendo Network ID (Wii U, & 3DS era) to your Nintendo Account. NNID is only used for Wii U, and 3DS. It was replaced by Nintendo Account. You log-on to your account through the Nintendo website, and link your NNID. I don't remember where exactly the option is, but once you link your NNID, there will be an option to merge funds from your NNID.
I love the Dark Forces series. Technically, the Dark Forces series is 5 games large: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy: Jedi Knight III. JK:DFII has an expansion pack, Mysteries Of The Sith.
I'm sure in the past, Lady Gaga Miis have been encountered in some Nintendo games by most people. I know I've seen some as far back as the different "channels" of the Wii era, "Check Mii Out", as well as other things going forward, Super Smash Bros.
@JohnnyMind I would absolutely love Nintendo to go all-in on emulating the connectivity features of their hardware, such as you mentioned, the N64 Transfer Pak for example. Another would be the Sattellaview.
I intended to get it, though things came up. I'll be getting it soon. I loved the original, as the first title in this series is basically a spiritual successor to DK94, while the others are Lemmings in gameplay.
I really want Nintendo to add Super Gameboy support to NSO. A lot of people don't realize that the SGB was capable of more than dynamic colors, and borders. It could also use the SNES spc sound to play sound clips, as well as play GB titles with 16-bit graphics, such as a simplistic game like Space Invaders. Also, whether intentionally at the time, or not, the SGB runs a little faster than the actual GB clock speed.
Donkey Kong came out in 1981, Mario Bros. in '83, and Super Mario Bros. in '85. See, starting with Wonder, Peach, and Daisy started playing 43yrs worth of power-up catch-up to Mario, and Luigi.
If I had to guess, this title is a platformer with MegaMan style elements. Peach probably has a basic attack, and defense, while certain abilities are the weakness of certain enemies, as well as certain abilities necessary to access certain areas of the play field.
Without exclusives, the only battle that profits is selling hardware, and licenses for software to be officially supported on said hardware. MS wants to be the Jack Of All Trades, though...
As with anything, we shall see what happens. Now that I think about it, this fits with MS wanting to move their Windows OS to not be a one-time purchase, and instead, a cloud-based subscription service. Continuing, or not, with actual Xbox hardware works with that concept. Nintendo use to have 2 platforms for financial support, and even if MS chose to stop Xbox hardware, we can pretty much guarantee there has already been numerous of their top business minds deciding how to proceed forward.
Best save up the pennies. I imagine Nintendo is likely ready to move on to the next system. I'm stil enjoying my Switch, even though it has already had 7yrs of fireworks.
@fabiop The games, at least the Mega Drive/Genesis, and Sega CD titles, have been recreated using the Retro Engine. They are not emulated roms, with hacked/modified code. This creates inconsistencies with how characters interact with some parts of the various level environments, presumably because Sonic /CD/2/3/&K all have mostly the same physics engine, with enough slight differences between those titles' physics engines, that only one physics engine might not work perfectly for all titles. The other answer to your (possibly rhetorical?) question is that Sega rushed Sonic Origins out the door, in my opinion.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I actually like that album. For some time in the 90s, Nintendo used to sell soundtrack CDs, along with other merch. I wish Nintendo would get back to that. There are plenty of (apparently licensed) soundtracks for Super Mario Bros., The Legend Of Zelda, Metroid, etc. that were released in the 80s, and 90s.
@Everyone-Else Nintendo will be on it, as soon as they know about it.
@Yosher To me, it's a case of, "This is why we can't have nice things." Because Nintendo is ultra-protective of their IP, they don't want to take chances, especially in our world's current heightened political tension, and Nintendo's lawyers took the opportunity to give a bit of overhaul to their rules for tournaments, and content creators. In the case of Smash, there was some sort of abuse scandal, as well as a vocal segment of the tourney scene complaining about wanting to use Slippi, which as I understand it, is a modified Smash Melee. I suppose after one, or two occurrences like that, Nintendo just says enough, and goes straight to stringent rules to protect their brand.
@Darknyht Not being argumentative. Donkey Kong is 42yrs old. Edit: Copyright laws really do need to be modified, especially to accommodate digital downloads. As an aside, I think some of the deterrents to digital-only are current copyright laws, and digital license laws; such as being able to transfer a digital license for monetary value, for example.
@Yosher Many people don't read the "fine print", and even if the event hosters broadcast, or otherwise advertise their event as not being associated with Nintendo, Nintendo just doesn't want the slightest bit of association. This is just Nintendo being ultra-protective of their brand.
My guess is that this was proactive on Nintendo's lawyers' part, to shield the co. from any current political events, such as Israel & Hamas, since this particular topic is currently discussed, protested, and rioted about on a worldwide scale. Lawyers get paid to proactively comb through, and stop potential legal problems, before they start. It just so happens that the lawyers wisely went all-in, as opposed to just dealing with current issues.
Part of the reason these rating systems don't work, is because the ratings are dependent on content sent to the rating boards from the game creators (developers/publishers), and also the fact that these boards have classifications that are not universally shared by consumers. For example, you could have one family put off by a game that has spiritual content, though not by the violence in the same game, while another family doesn't care about the spiritual content, and is instead bothered by violence in the title. Likewise with sexual content, or anything else.

Nintendo probably did reach the space capacity on a Switch cart. A very stupid decision, though Nintendo has decided that certain segments of the consumer base will purchase it.
The only reason to purchase this, is if you don't already own the game, or the game possibly improves online code, and/or fixes glitches that (negatively) interfere with gameplay.
If MS really wanted to have a sustainable business model, they should stick to productivity hardware, and software. Said industry makes products for 2 markets: home user productivity, and commercial user productivity. In both cases, all MS has to continue is making products people want, that are viably affordable for the specific markets. Productivity products for the companies that utilize (need) computers to create games, and products for individual consumers. A near-unending business model. Game co.s are always going to need hardware, and software to make the games they sell.
Sometimes, wanting profit right upfront, and/or trying to be a jack of all trades, stifles a co. from actually having very profitable, & solid (almost-never-going-to-change) business models.
@HefHughner I agree that Microsoft is good at throwing money, while not improving their creativity. I would attribute this to the fact that Microsoft's history is as a productivity software co. primarily. By contrast, Nintendo's history is as an entertainment co., even before they were in video games.
If successful, I expect Nintendo to consider revisiting, in some form, M&L. Not necessarily a new entry in the series, just that their audience is interested in rpgs mixed with the Super Mario universe.
