I agree with Yosher. The issue is that people have put money into a game they will no longer be able to play. It would be in Nintendo's interest to support 2 versions of the game.
The benefit of console gaming is that the game will never be incompatible with the hardware, save for updates that cause problems, because the base hardware never changes. And usually, when there's a bad update, it gets patched.
I don't mind (the various aspects of) Nintendo ip (gameplay, story, etc.) being shaped by other co.s, provided I enjoy the final product. Going forward, Nintendo must be smart enough, and fair enough to strike mutually beneficial contracts for their ip. The purpose being to ensure that in the future, both parties legally have access, and distribution rights to the final product, and all materials that create the final product.
In this age of retro gaming, and emulation, it's a wise move to think ahead about the near, and far future distribution of their titles. Emulation legalities are messy.
Never owned the original, though I have played a demo of it. I might get it. Going to have to do some research reading here, and on some other sites. I remember watching the Wii/original trailer again on my Wii, after I had seen it earlier that week during E3. Looks good.
I'm interested, as Metroid is one of my favorite Nintendo IPs. Being chased looks similar to Fusion. I prefer the freedom of more exploration, compared to the more linear nature of Fusion, even though the chasing is not an indicator of gameplay style; just making a related observation.
So, it was only once, unlike previous years, where there were 3 days of Treehouse? Oh... Not a problem. Just a little disappointed. Expected though, since we're coming out of Covid-19.
I really want more than 5 boards from the N64 era. It'd be better to have all, or at least, many of the boards from the N64 era. Literally remaking a compilation of the first 3 games, with modern character options, and optional rule sets from later entries would be fine with me.
Also, I seem to recall enjoying the board mechanics/rules of MP to MP5. If Nintendo really wanted to go out of their way, they would remake a set number of MP titles, as one Switch game, allowing players to, where possible, use rule sets from the other MPs.
I'll be keeping my eyes on this, because I'll probably get it, though I will have to wait, and see.
It's a regular occurrence, as in not always, and frequently, that I have to manually update save data on titles, before I start that title. In addition, sometimes, my Switch will give me errors that I can't play certain software, or update/download save files because my NSO sub can't be verified. Usually, making 2, or 3 attempts finally allows me to update/download save data, and/or play the specific software. These issues I have listed here been with my Switch for some time now. Again, it doesn't happen Everytime. It happens enough to be considered frequent/ medium level frequency.
This is scummy. Nintendo is probably doing this to sell systems. Granted, in my household, 2p simultaneously is fine, and the need for simultaneously/split screen 4p is not likely at this point in time. In practice, 4p split screen in tabletop mode would be awkward visually, and it still can be implemented.
I can forgive Nintendo, if this is an actual limitation of the Switch, which is possible, and doubtful. I truly doubt it is a limitation of the Switch.
If Nintendo wants me to purchase another Switch, along with accessories, lower the prices.
Edit: I'm still looking forward to this, but unless more is revealed, it appears MGSR is more parred down, compared to Toadstool Tour, which is one of my favorite Gamecube titles.
I'm excited, and I'm also keeping my expectations in check. I'm still satisfied with my Switch. If a "Pro" exists, it will probably be either a stripped down, streamlined version of the Switch, or a slightly more powerful unit, that in the long-run, gets few hardware exclusives that require it.
As for video, the social media upload on WU, meaning to Youtube, was nice. An enhancement to that feature would be also allowing users to create videos of replays, and save them to the system, sd card, flash, or externally connected storage of some sort. (I also dislike the need to have a separate ac-adapter-powered harddisk drive for WU, unless I were willing to do fancy things to my console.). The benefit would be that when official support ends for uploading to certain sites, the user can still manually upload the video file to any place.
Cool to know. As I've previously stated (in a related article), I looked ahead last year, to mark this year's E3 (on my calendars). I agree with Kyloctopus, and Snatcher respectively, that hopefully the execution of E3 will match the pr, and that having a site in addition to mobile apps would be more optimal. As usual, I'm always busy, so I highly value being able to jump-into the (online) communities such as here, elsewhere, and get quick catch-ups on things I might have missed. I'm excited (for E3), and I can wait, and enjoy life in the meantime.
Edit: It's really the same as a lot of media (games, movies, books, etc.): Don't go in with unrealistic expectations, and you'll be either pleasantly surprised, or at least not let down to the degree if you had those unrealistic expectations.
My joycons have wear that you notice, if you use them. Predominantly, it is right now only the left that suffers, and primarily from drift. The right is still usable for tabletop mode, if my family, and/or I am watching something on tv.
Switch battery life is good for me, however I do not take my Switch out of my house, 98% of the time. I play in all 3 modes, predominantly docked, unless I'm multitasking.
Storage isn't really an issue for me, since I prefer physical carts/cards over digital downloads.
Nintendo should modify their account system. In a standard scenario, you need your original 3DS, WU, or Switch to transfer account data to a new console. Also, a big hindrance to digital titles are that I can't sell the license for the title later.
Over the course of time, my Switch fan is a smidge more noticeable to my ears, but nothing noteworthy. It does get pretty warm, after a good long playthrough, but I would expect that.
Overall, a lot of wear, and tear issues are just based on how often, and in the predominant environment a person uses their Switch.
I think the problem many people have is what Kate mentioned in the article: As soon as they decide to purchase a console, Nintendo will announce a new model, that features upgrades. I would say just remember a console lifespan is around 4-6yrs. Longer, if a co. can profit off of it, as presumably was the case with the 3DS. Knowing this, I would also say to people with a failing console, just be patient, and Nintendo will eventually reveal their proverbial cards, either by choice, or forced by competition.
Jacki's photo does look out of place comparatively, but that's just how some women assert themselves, either because they want to, or feel they have to, depending on the individual woman.
I've had this E3 in my calendar for the last year, and some odd months. I wonder if Nintendo will have their Treehouse playthroughs. They could still do it, just having individual team members handling a play session for a particular title, then for the same game, have another team member playing a different console in a different location; thus maintaining social distancing.
I loved manuals that came with games I bought. I still love manuals.
The trouble with including manuals now, is that games generally get updates/patches to fix errors and/or include new features, which depending on the game, and code, might also include changing variables for current in-game code. An example would be Smash Ultimate getting changes to character moveset damage every time new dlc is released). The solution to this problem is for developers to know in advance dlc that is going to be released. Also, releasing manuals that can be purchased, that include the old data, and the changes.
Tadams587 typed exactly my thoughts on the rumble: Nintendo doesn't want third-party options w/ all the tech of the official pro controller. At least, it seems that way to me. It seems like all other, especially cheaper, pro-controllers lack at least one feature of the official pro: wired, NFC, hd rumble, motion controls.
I have a PowerA wired, because I sit close enough, and comfortably enough to my Switch dock. I enjoy it thoroughly. Also, I can get along without many of the pro features, for many of the titles I play.
I remember playing the demo on my 3DS. I thought it was a bit expensive for a digital-only game. I did like the tune, "My/Your(?) Bicycle" from Pokemon, despite not being a Pokemon fan.
The cool thing about the 3DS is that the system is popular enough that most games for it probably will see an eventual re-release down the line for other systems. At least, I fully expect Nintendo to retread many of their own titles eventually. Subjectively, and technically, the DS touchscreen, Wii 'motes, & U Gamepad are all very cool ideas, that needed tweaking, as well as not being forced as the main control scheme.
Cool. I also love the older art style for many of Nintendo's franchises. The Super Mario Bros. (series) art was great. Same with Zelda. Nice article. Thanks for writing.
Interesting, but I'll have to see how the character plays, to decide on purchasing. I'm not a Xenoblade fan, so I'll have to see.
Once the final character(s) is/are released, Nintendo won't have Ultimate to talk about. That is, unless up front, or down the road, they surprise announce another Fighter Pass. I think part of the reason they pad out the dlc, assuming they already know, and have made their decisions in advance, is to keep the current version of Smash "current"; still in the gaming news, still an attention drawer like, "Hey! Look at this game we are still supporting."
I'm of the opinion Nintendo should release the final characters together during their E3 Direct; especially if the presentation only announces the characters, and saves the in-depth tutorials for later. Of course, Nintendo has no reason to do that. An in-depth tutorial would not fill up Nintendo's 3 days worth of E3 Treehouse presentations, and I imagine Nintendo wants to finish off the Fighter Pass in the early Fall, or close to Smash Ultimate's 3 year anniversary. Doing so stretches out focus on Ultimate.
Super Mario Odyssey, MegaMan Zero/ZX Legacy Collection digital on sale - a Valentine's gift to myself, NES, & SNES apps (Super Mario All-Stars, Pilotwings, Diddy's Kong Quest), and yesterday was Super Mario Bros. 3's birthday. Happy Valentine's day, and gaming everyone, God bless!
@klingki I was just about to comment the very same thing. I would download a good handful of the Nintendo ones. I wish Nintendo had the desire, and will to overcome any licensing issues, and release a compilation of their arcade titles, high quality emulation.
@Silly_G Just goes to be a reminder that if in Smash you come across a track you like, look up the original from the corresponding game series. The versions of many tracks in Smash, unless specifically made for Smash, are condensed versions of the full track. An example being the DK Rap remix from Melee was shortened for the 3DS/WU Smash titles, presumably because Nintendo wanted both versions to be the same, meaning the WU version would have the same assets as the 3DS version.
@Everyone_Else Just hours ago, I watched a new video of exactly this topic: uncompressed sample music, except it was from the Gameboy Advance. Everyone argues over which console sounded better, but honestly, in the hands of someone who knew what they were doing, the NES, GB, SNES, and Genesis could really sing.
I wonder if the Mario items, and activities will be available through normal gameplay for a limited length of time, permanently throughout the year, or permanently yearly? Limited time as in, literally activities/items that are permanently part of the game code, but a one-time special event that won't repeat.
Also, for giggles, we need that developer test triangle from Animal Forest+/Animal Crossing (NGC).
I have an e-Reader, some dot code cards for some NES games, & I used to have SMA4:SMB3, which to me, was the spirit of Super Mario Maker, before SMM. My favorite game of all time, favorite SMB franchise game of all time, portable, and the merging of different aspects of SMB games into one title.
Duck Hunt, I also love.
As for the physical vs. digital debate:
I'm in the camp that is of the opinion that physically nothing last forever, except for being well-up-kept (maintained), or simply preserved, like museum artifacts. I prefer physical media over digital, but I'm not against digital; I'm simply against many current practices on how co.s (companies) handle digital.
When the e-shops, and servers shut down, the legal methods of both purchasing the content that was on there, including updates, as well as dlc, and/or redownloading what you have previously purchased, is discontinued. This makes digital purchases very unappealing.
Hypothetically, someone second-hand purchases a Wii with Skyward Sword. Remember, the game had an official free software patch that fixes an unlikely, but possible encounter of the game-breaking bug. But wait, if they can't officially download the free patch, then they must either deal/put-up with the situation, if the bug is encountered, or learn how to manually hack, and apply game patches to their Wii console. Now granted, this is, again, a hypothetical, because for right now, Skyward Sword is on the WU e-shop, presumably with the patch already inserted into the game's files (rom/iso/wad/etc).
Another example would be if I purchased dlc, that I later deleted from my system, let's say to make room for other games I'm currently playing. When the servers go down, I lost data that I paid for, and maybe I had sufficient room on my console, or backup devices, but I forgot about it.
For things like full-game digital downloads, patches, and dlc, the companies should continue hosting it, in some way, and/or allow others to legally host that data, under the software provisions that the data must not ever be "altered", except by the official source of the data.
Companies should also come up with a means of consumers being able to legally sell, and transfer digital download games, along with the license that goes with them, since a digital download is effectively purchasing a license to play the game, not ownership of the game code itself.
@DrDaisy Yes I have heard of, and enjoy them for what they were. As a matter of fact, my 3DS/WU/Switch name is based on Captain N, as is my username here. It was early in the morning when I typed that comment. I forgot to add that those cartoons did get made, like you said, but that initially Nintendo was reluctant. Again though, that is what I read somewhere online. I honestly forget where, and the information may have not been accurate.
Nintendo pretty much responded to DIC cartoons the same way, as I understand it. They approached Nintendo for permission to create a cartoon based on, at least Mario, & Nintendo basically told them they were not interested, they were already very successful.

Re: Microsoft Was Simply Exploring "Every Angle" When It Approached Nintendo About A Buyout
Re: Microsoft Was Simply Exploring "Every Angle" When It Approached Nintendo About A Buyout
Nintendo pretty much responded to DIC cartoons the same way, as I understand it. They approached Nintendo for permission to create a cartoon based on, at least Mario, & Nintendo basically told them they were not interested, they were already very successful.
Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?
Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite. Next in line are Super Mario Bros., Lost Levels, & World.

Definitely going for the DX edition, if I pick this up, which I probably will.

Looks good thus far.
Re: Poll: Which Is Your Favourite Nintendo 64 Console Variant?
Charcoal grey, Ice Blue, Watermelon Red, Midnight Purple, & the Gold. Also, the redesigned N64 removed the bottom EXT port.
