Hopefully, Nintendo will include a little customization to their next console. Granted, it will come at either a cost of performance, or Nintendo makes their next machine powerful enough to do background tasking, like the Switch can. I love being able to just pause my game in memory, or pausing to trim a video.
@Uncle_Franklin The SGB was essentially full GB hardware, minus the screen, using the Super NES for controller input, as well as audio/video output. There was at least one game I know of, the GB iteration of Space Invaders, that could be played with 16-bit graphics on the SGB. Now granted, Space Invaders is simplistic, though the feature was nice. Most SGB enhanced gamepaks had dynamic color palettes, and custom borders. Other SGB titles had sound samples that the Super NES could handle, such as Pauline crying for "Help" in Donkey Kong 94, and enhanced music. I loved the every feature of the SGB. I really hope Nintendo fully emulated it. There also was a SGB2. I was disappointed that the GameCube Gameboy Player didn't support the features of the SGB. Drawing on the game screen, and around it was fun.
Yeah, like others have said, most major console manufacturers are doing work on the next piece of hardware, immediately after the current one gets out the door. Nintendo has surely been working on their next machine, likely since Switch released 6yrs ago.
The 3DS had a decent likespan. Maybe Nintendo will try to shoot for 8yrs? That boils down to if Nintendo is willing to take the Switch as far as possible, despite hardware that is weaker than the other consoles.
I hope the next machine, Nintendo builds on everything the Switch has become up to this point. I feel they probably will, since the Switch is very successful, especially compared to its 2 home console predecessors, Wii, and WU. I'd say it's equal, or stronger than its handheld predecessor, 3DS.
Very impressive! These types of game enhancements need to be implemented more commonly, to the point it's as common as in-game audio, and brightness controls.
Games can help hand-eye coordination, analytical skills, and eye movement. When I was little, I was afraid I couldn't play videogames, and my eye doctor told my parents that playing would help my eyes.
@Mgalens You're welcome. Hopefully, it's just the cable. Additionally, in case of an emergency, sometimes a person might be selling a Gamepad, or battery for one, on sites like eBay, or Amazon for a reasonable amount. Other times, sellers will try to sell one for an exorbitant amount. Hope everything works out for you.
@Kovats56 @Mgalens I just checked the Nintendo site, and unless I'm wrong, it appears they are still repairing Wii U, and Wii U Basic systems. At least, for their American website. So, if anything is wrong with your system, there is still a chance to get it repaired.
@Kovats56 Over the last few years, I had my Wii U system inconsistently plugged in, and used. Recently, I have been using it much more frequently. Since February, I have been playing games I missed years prior. The longest my Wii U system has been unplugged for was roughly a year. It still works. If your system has not been unplugged for too long, it should work.
A GameCube title could max out at roughly 1.46GB. Even if the average NGC/GCN title is only a few hundred megabytes, and Nintendo used very efficient compression, Nintendo still makes their consoles with low internal memory capacity. A GameCube library app would take a lot of storage, especially compared to the appropriate applications for the NES, GB, SMD/SG, SNES, SGB, N64, GBC, GBA, and their respective libraries. Hopefully, either I'm wrong, or in due time, Nintendo will have access to very high quality compression.
Also, if I had to guess, Nintendo probably originally planned on the Wii U having GameCube compatibility in some form, then scrapped the idea. Additionally, the Wii U uses the same PowerPC tech that is inside the GameCube, and Wii. So, it made backwards compatibility less of an issue, to a degree.
Smash Ultimate, I also thought was well done. I knew ahead of time it was unwise to just purchase the fighter passes, without knowing who the characters were. The only exception would have been if I simply wanted a "complete" game.
At 999 moons, I am not sure if Nintendo would make some for Super Mario Odyssey. Oh, I also enjoy the Super Rush dlc.
@ElRoberico Purchase a flash drive, and you can use that. The original reason Nintendo suggested against that, was the argument of flash drives not being fast enough, and not being tolerant beyond so many read from/write to processes, wearing out a flash drive prematurely. A large capacity USB 2.0, or 3.0 should work fine.
@InJeffable I agree, and have always felt digital license laws need to be more consumer friendly.
@Everone_Else Remember that the Wii U uses NAND flash memory. That type of volitle memory requires an occasion electric charge, or degrades to the point of malfunction. Some Wii U owners, who have had their systems unplugged for a long time, have already discovered this problem. So, hoping your purchases will be usable in 5-10yrs should also factor into how much you are willing to spend, before next week.
@sdelfin According to the Gaming Historian on YouTube, you are correct. SMB3 was essentially the base for SMW, during development, some of the team remarked how similar it looked to the NES titles.
This sounds wonderful! Very nice, indeed! As a sidenote, this, is capitalism in action. Wayforward wants the money of 3DS, and Wii U owners, so they lower their prices on some popular items.
A few weeks ago, I had noticed the Splatoon 3 widgets, when I went through my widgets drawer. I guess it's nice for Splatoon 3 fans. I would like the app to be more functional, in terms using my Switch. Stuff like managing downloads, or grabbing screenshots/videos via Bluetooth from the Switch to my device. Nintendo also might as well add a function to access the NSO account app on Switch. You could purchase icon elements, change your profile icon, check your rewards status, and even have account upgrade options, so you wouldn't always have to go through a browser. Just common sense things.
Edit: Nintendo probably doesn't want to overcomplicate the NS app, so I can see why they might not want to add such features.
@Freddyfred On each Virtual library, you can arrange games in any order, with 10 maximum to a single row. The more you put in a row, the smaller the "game boxes" become. The fewer in a row, the larger they become. I believe you hold Y on a game box to move it around.
Edit: In each library's settings, you can also use preset arrangements, like release date order. For Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 64, you can toggle to add in the library the other regional versions available.
@Hero-of-WiiU TheBigBlue mentioned e-Reader levels in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. The Super Mario Advance series was basically remakes of the western Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Bros. 3. SMA4:SMB3 has functionality for a GameBoy Advance peripheral, e-Reader. The GBA e-Reader used packs of cards with "dot code" for a variety of things, mainly to play NES games Nintendo re-released in the card format. The e-Reader would store a set of code, and play that particular game. For SMA4:SMB3, using 2 GBA systems, a game link cable, and an e-Reader, the game supported various enhancements via scanned cards. This would include stuff like the caped feather from SMW, and pulling/throwing vegetables from the western SMB2. The main draw would mainly be new levels for a self-contained World-E. On an actual cartridge, I believe you could only have so many, whereas the emulated version contains all of the new levels that were created.
Edit: These cards, such as power-up items, could be used in the main game, too. An example would be adding a P-Wing to your item inventory, assuming you had that card; one of the downsides was, at the time, Nintendo distributed different level, and other cards, to various retailers, with many level cards being originally Japan-only releases. So, SMA4:SMB3 is the first official release of these levels. However, the complete set of levels has been available for I don't know how long, in the unofficial emulation scene.
Like many, I'm not surprised. Especially, that it's expensive.
I believe that the successor to the Switch will be announced either this year, or next year; possibly, though unlikely 2 years from now. My best guess is this, or next year. I love my Switch. In just a few weeks it will be, so you might as well say now, it has been commercially available for the past 6 years. Nintendo still operates on the business philosophy of "using already dated hardware in new ways". That concept, used wisely, can yield great returns for a lower investment. As I recall, the Nvidia Tegra X1 was already not bleeding edge in the year when Switch was out in 2017, or the following year, 2018.
Further, I think Nintendo will try to make the successor hardware like a Switch with a "power-up". As Nintendo only has one hardware platform, which happens to be a hybrid, they won't want to give up the handheld market, which has always been financially comfortable for them. Add into this line of thinking that different markets of the world want different hardware; some want handhelds more than consoles, some want consoles more than handhelds, some want both. Nintendo will likely keep the hybrid concept, until they either return to having more than one platform, or maybe feel that their mobile game income is the same as, or at least sufficient replacement for what they use to make on their handheld division.
I imagine NSO will have icon elements for MPR, and simultaneously MK8DX. Wave 4 will likely be next, or the following month, with the remaining 2 waves being released every fourth month afterwards.
Also, @Almighty-Koz Are you referring to the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii, or Metroid Other M? If you are referring to Metroid Other M, that is not a typical Metroid game. (I'm currently playing it, and enjoying it, minus the lock-on missile mechanic.) Typical Metroid games are action-adventure exploration games, with some backtracking. Basically, Metroid Prime is a 3d interpretation on the 2d games. Also, Metroid Prime, as well as Other M, are cannon (official) to the overall story, though not directly connected to the main story.
@MikeJones I have always wondered if Nintendo thought it was worth it to make a Virtual Boy emulator, or if they don't want to shine a light on that part of their history, since they considered VB as a commercial failure. In my opinion, as small as the VB library is, they could have easily put their first-party titles on the 3DS e-Shop under their "3D Classics" banner. By the way, I love your username, and icon. Nintendo really needs to make another StarTropics. it's just sitting there in Nintendo history, like Kid Icarus was until a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee suggested Nintendo was thinking of making a new game for the franchise. Then, in the next Smash, Pit was playable.
@neonpizza If I remember correctly, that is done on purpose. The reason behind that is to prevent seizures in people with epilepsy. A lot of NES games use (strobing) rapidly flashing white during segments of gameplay, such as explosions in MegaMan, or the crumbling of the fortresses in Super Mario Bros. 3. The other thing is that CRT (cathode ray tube) tv sets back then were usually well illuminated. Again though, most of the color-muting comes from efforts to reduce epilepsy.
I play them all almost equally. The ones I play the most are NES, and SNES.
I would love the Super Gameboy, and SGB2 to be fully supported, and playable. SGB emulation usually amounts to just enabling the border, and a color palette from the game. The SGB was essentially a full GB, capable of taking great advantage of the SNES. Sound sampling, dynamic color palettes, a slightly faster CPU than the actual GB. Also, the animated borders, the ability to draw on the border, the game screen, and "creating" your own colors, then getting a password for the combination of colors.
I would also love for Nintendo to release the Satellaview games.
Many GameCube titles took full, or at least great advantage of the storage medium. The Switch having only 32GB, I don't think Nintendo wants to highlight a slightly weaker aspect of their console. A GameCube NSO library, even small, would likely require an SD card, as the system memory would not be enough. The only way I see it working, is if Nintendo programmers use some really good compression, which I recall, NGC titles did, anyway.
Now, That's Gravvy! I wouldn't be surprised if Echoes, and Corruption will eventually be dlc, running on a similar engine. Furthermore, this remaster is a stealth way for Nintendo to discover what gamers like, and don't like in modern adventure fps titles. That way, this remaster will be the test waters to iron out things that shouldn't be in Prime 4. Remember, P4 development was rebooted with a different co., because the higher-ups didn't like the then-current results.
@1UP_MARIO It sounds so trivial, though it is actually very handy, one of my favorite features of the Switch is the ability to just freeze the game at any time, and come back later. I hope Nintendo keeps that feature in future consoles.
Enough small stakes in numerous co.s creates a financial safety net that can be used flexibly. The only limitations (on use of those finances) would be international, and individual country laws, as well as the invested co.s' particular legalities about use of profits, and limitations as well.
I liked both Nintendo Week, and Minute. I enjoyed both, because I always watched with the knowledge the cast members were (playing) characters promoting Nintendo. Also, Alison, and Krysta are beautiful; very easy on the eyes. I'm sure, like many in these comments, that Nintendo Week, and Minute have been archived by various fans.
Metroid Prime 4 would be cool. Pikmin 4 would also be cool.
It would be great if Sega made a physical version of Sonic Origins. Mania was originally only digital, if I remember correctly, and then they made it physical.
Also, whenever a new TLOZ title is on the way, I am reminded of how, for the past few consoles, it seems that TLOZ titles come at the very beginning, and the end, or near the end of those specific consoles. Twilight Princess on GameCube, and Wii, Breath Of The Wild on Wii U, and Switch. My point is: How long does the Switch have left? I love mine.
I might get Link's Awakening. I'll be keeping tabs on this sale, as they will likely add other titles to the sale. Too bad the sale is never more than $20 off, though it could also be less of a discount.
The Japanese boxart, drawn by Miyamoto, has Peach looking like a young girl. If I remember correctly, originally Peach was drawn that way for early SMB merchandise. Eventually, and in only a few years time, Peach was visually aged. Or, the story was something along those lines.
Edit: Peach has always had that name. Nintendo Of American localization changed the name, I assume.
My initial comment was partially wrong by assuming she had other work, in which case, 4 thousand is good. If it's all Hellena has, then she needs to find more work, or work in another type of industry that gives pay she feels appropriate.
This story is another example of emotions running high, and assumptions from limited information.
Maybe VAs need better pay, or maybe it's not the kind of job to rely on to keep the lights on, and own your property? I'm not an expert, and I think it truly is a per-project kind of issue.
I doubt this will stop people from buying the game. Hellena felt she should have been paid more, though Platinum didn't. Jen Hale is well-known, as the article points out.
@pneumaticgnosis Not simping. A co. does whatever they please, until unions get involved, or until laws were broken, there's proof of it, and somebody brings attention to the problem. In this instance, Hellena is vocal about not thinking it fair. So, she's got the ball rolling, so to speak.
@HappyFuzzy Fair enough. I'm not an expert, and apparently I'm wrong. (I'm not being sarcastic.)
@demacho Again, fair enough, because I'm not an expert, so I'm wrong. (Not being sarcastic.)
@Herachi Again, I'm wrong then. (Again, I'm not sarcastic.)
@BabyYoda71 Maybe both parties could work something out, provided cooler heads prevail.
@Everyone My comment was wrong, now that I think about it, and have read the responses. Plus, my original comment was incomplete. I meant to say that my logic was on the assumption that she had other work simultaneously, in addition to her being Bayonetta. I thought something was off, back when it was revealed she wouldn't be returning for the threequel.
4,000.00 USD? Depending on how she gets it, whether once, or over a period of time, I'd say she's being greedy. Especially, if she gets royalties, in addition to the 4 thousand. It's a voice. I doubt that she has done any mocap for the Bayou series, and if any, maybe facial gestures. If it's only a voice, yes that takes talent, and at the end of the day, it's the studio's money. They don't have to hire her.
Times are financially tough, and co.s are going to pass that on to their workers, and consumers. This is where the talk of unions start.

I'd love full Super Gameboy support. KDL2 is a SGB enhanced gamepak. If I remember correctly, for example, there's a wind sound in the world select.
DK94 was the flagship for the SGB. So much is lost, without full SGB support.

Remember, P4 development was rebooted with a different co., because the higher-ups didn't like the then-current results.
Re: Pikmin 4 Sprouts July Release Date In New Trailer
Totally ready.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct
It's ok to have expectations, though lofty ones are more likely to not come true. I'll be tuned-in, definitely.
Re: Nintendo Switch Crowned Best-Selling Console In US For Fifth Year In A Row
@1UP_MARIO It sounds so trivial, though it is actually very handy, one of my favorite features of the Switch is the ability to just freeze the game at any time, and come back later. I hope Nintendo keeps that feature in future consoles.
Re: Nintendo Switch Crowned Best-Selling Console In US For Fifth Year In A Row
I believe that as long as it prints money, Nintendo will keep Switch going down the tracks, which is fine by me, because I love my Switch.
Re: Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund Raises Stake In Nintendo To 6%
Enough small stakes in numerous co.s creates a financial safety net that can be used flexibly. The only limitations (on use of those finances) would be international, and individual country laws, as well as the invested co.s' particular legalities about use of profits, and limitations as well.
Re: Arcade Archives TETRIS THE GRAND MASTER
Download!
I love the Arcade Archives!
Re: Star Wars: KOTOR II Switch DLC Appears To Have Missed Its Release Window
Yeah, this is mostly easy to patch to a PC install. I would guess the delay was from being able to toggle the dlc in the main menu.
Re: Random: These AI Images Of The Super Mario Bros. Movie Cast Are Terrifying
Interesting, to say the least. DK looks like Rick Moranis.
I'm ready to see the movie.
Re: Nintendo Minute Videos Are Being Set To Private On Nintendo's YouTube Channel
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Most Anticipated Games For 2023 (That Aren't Zelda)
Re: Ash Ketchum VA Shares Message Ahead Of Character's Exit From Pokémon Anime
16yr run, not shabby at all! Stellar, actually! Good for her! Many cartoons only last a few years, tops, so it is impressive!
Re: Deals: My Nintendo Store US Releases Preview Of Black Friday Offers, With Switch Bundles, Games And More (US)
I might get Link's Awakening. I'll be keeping tabs on this sale, as they will likely add other titles to the sale. Too bad the sale is never more than $20 off, though it could also be less of a discount.
Re: The Force Is With LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Galactic Edition, Out Now On Switch
"Your (dlc) will make a fire addition to my collection!"
I want a Lego KOTOR collection remake, also.
Re: Random: Princess Peach Sure Looks Different In This Officially Licensed Picture Book From 1986
The Japanese boxart, drawn by Miyamoto, has Peach looking like a young girl. If I remember correctly, originally Peach was drawn that way for early SMB merchandise. Eventually, and in only a few years time, Peach was visually aged. Or, the story was something along those lines.
Edit: Peach has always had that name. Nintendo Of American localization changed the name, I assume.
Re: A New Bayonetta 3 Report Features A Differing Account Of PlatinumGames VA Pay Offer
Re: Poll: What's The Best Mario Party Game?
The N64 3 are my favorites. MP5 is very good, and then MP4. I owned the e-Reader MP, which was fun, as well.
I would get a throwback MP, though I can, in months time play my favorites on NSOEP.
Re: Bayonetta's New Voice Actor Jennifer Hale Issues Statement About Bayonetta 3
I doubt this will stop people from buying the game. Hellena felt she should have been paid more, though Platinum didn't. Jen Hale is well-known, as the article points out.
Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout
@SepticLemon Then she deserves more.
Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout
