All six collections could fit on one cartridge. Not only would it save plastic and money for customers, increase the portability, I also think a lot more people would buy it, making it one of those cartridges you always carry with your switch. I don't want six mini collections of Neo Geo games but something like the mega-drive classics collection is really tempting.

Quite a few years ago, there was a really dry spell in Nintendo games on switch. I was in a gaming shop and saw a very old game, Doom for $60 on switch and $10 on PS4, a lot of other games were the same and playstation had a lot more cheap 3rd party games. So instead of buying a few switch games I bought a PS4. I later bought a steam deck, ps5 and gaming PC. While I could afford a Switch 2, the games are way too expensive in terms of value proposition and in comparison to what other consoles sell. Cyberpunk 2077 is often on a steam sale for around $15, so I wouldn't get a lesser version on switch for, whatever they are asking, $70-80? I skipped Wii-U and might skip Switch 2 in the same way.

GameStop did this to me with the original Wii. They've been doing it for ages.

@UmbreonsPapa it's because tech demos are traditionally free. Makes sense people are concerned. People want to buy Switch 2 but Nintendo needs to be on the same page regarding the value proposition/cost of their products. This is very important when choosing a new console and becoming locked into one console manufacturers marketplace for years.

This pricing puts me off the Switch 2. It makes me weary of entering another Nintendo owned closed ecosystem, where I rely on them not to fix or hike up costs. The launch games on Switch are still $60. Maybe I am too poor to be a Nintendo fan now.

@Bizzyb I'm not sure a Switch 2 is cheaper than a steam deck. Perhaps the console but very few Steam games are $80. Cyberpunk on Steam more often sells for around $16 and the highest it tends to go for is $40. I doubt the Switch version will sell for $40 for a very long time. I bought it on launch day for $60 and this was the most expensive game I had ever bought on steam. In addition, valve does not normally charge any more money to play the same game, you already bought, just because you have new hardware. If I wanted to play cyberpunk at a higher resolution or framerate on a steam deck 2, I would just boot up the game I had purchased on steam deck 1 and possibly change the settings, if it didnt do it automatically.

@DonkeyKongBigBoy that is a selling point actually. I'm sure to get MP4 on the original Switch but it's good to know i won't have to buy the game again, when I eventually get switch 2.

Still waiting for that killer app that makes me want to buy a Switch 2. Breath of The Wild did it for me with switch 1 but a smoother running version on switch 2 isn't that appealing, seeing as I've finished the game. I've been playing Cyberpunk handheld on Steamdeck for years so this isn't going to be a system seller for me. Fingers crossed for Metroid Prime 4 being just as good on original Switch, to save me some money. As for mouse mode, I've played games with a mouse since the early nineties, does not seem novel to me.

@Rykdrew steam deck OLED may have a better screen but does it play GameCube games? ... (Yes, plus Wii and Wii U, switch, PS2...)

All GameCube games are playable on Steamdeck without a subscription and have been for many years. Also on most Android phones. They also play Wii, Wii U and Switch btw.

I have been playing an upscaled version of Wind waker, with widescreen hacks on Retroid pocket 5. The WiiU version doesn't run quite as well on it.

The article writes "Nintendo will also be releasing a new wireless GameCube controller" and "will you be replaying The Wind Waker". Shouldn't it be "Nintendo will also release a new wireless controller" and "will you replay The Wind Waker"? Such a strange way to be writing things I be reading. Have you been understanding how unusual this has been being?

Some people won't buy a switch 2, not just because of its price, but it's unwieldy size. Switch lite is a more suitable handheld for travel.

I think I am going to wait for a while before picking up switch 2, especially if there is no killer app for me, and indies like this still come to switch 1. If there are performance problems with Metroid Prime 4 on switch 1, I may suddenly change my mind.

I'm OK with paying for digital only games, as long as they have sales like on steam. As for people saying they will lose the games when the servers go down, there are some game preservationists sailing the high seas who can help with that.

I think lots of people said it already, but it is better to have an original switch game plus the upgrade key because you can play the game on both switch 1 and 2. Many people would rather play prime 4 on switch lite, for a more portable experience.

@StewdaMegaManNerd yes, a valid point. I own and paid (once) for all of the games I emulate. I don't rent games and have been playing Wii and GameCube on a handheld for several years now.

I am trying to think of something this can do that my Steamdeck can't already do.

This rumoured delay in dev kits could result in rumours of poorly optimized games at launch.

@WiltonRoots Perhaps I could say it about all videogame gateways? Perhaps I see them everywhere I look? I think these doors are more reminiscent than most though.

Why do all the doors look like vaginas? That castle too? It is going to be hard to ignore while unloading a throbbing cannon at them.

A DS with one long folding screen would be a better design. That said, looks like these folding screens are not durable enough for a consoles lifecycle.

So, Nintendo will allow me to use my own internet with my own electronic device for free? Very generous. Letting me borrow the really old games for a couple of weeks instead of honoring my purchases on older systems is also so very generous.

I bought the games I want on previous consoles and I own them. I will not rent something I already own. It is a shame I can't play the games on switch without hacking it. It is fortunate that there are other machines that are more portable, have nicer screens and better build quality to play these games on, like the Retroid Pocket 5.

If you are disappointed by the loss of this game, google it's name plus the word 'rom'.

Steam Deck plays classic games without a subscription, including GameCube, Wii, Wii U and Switch (which is pretty retro now).

The nightmare update runs the frame rate even slower with even muddier textures. Can't wait.

Being charged to be allowed to connect your own device to your own internet connection seems like a terrible deal. As for trying to lease out old games I have already purchased on prior platforms, instead of honoring my prior purchases, not a good deal either.

The best third party replacement offerings have a D-pad.

Switch 2 amiibo support and new Metal Gear launch game confirmed.

I've been playing virtual console on Retroid Pocket 5. I can play the games I bought and own from all the old consoles, without having to buy them again or, heaven forbid, rent them.

A very late review. This game has been out for a long while. Nintendolife is usually my go-to for reviews but for this game I had to find other websites.

I hope there is a lite version because it seems a bit too big for me.

Ironically, the vast majority of games these devs have produced are the kind of thing I would like to avoid on the eShop too.

This game doesn't work properly on Switch. No point releasing DLC.

There was a wheel for arkanoid that looked pretty cool. I'm thinking that is the paddle people are talking about.

I anticipate they release prime 4 first, then some time after, a quadrilogy. Or perhaps a remake of pinball, or a Metroid-starfox crossover.

Perhaps they should have finished the game before releasing it?

Hopefully some of this software will manage a decent resolution and frame rate on text console.

If performance is poor an a 'remaster' they should just port the original game.

These games tend to be much more heavily discounted on other platforms and have better performance.

Sounds great. I'd buy this controller but I won't rent old games on NSO. Hopefully they sell some GameCube games on a cart or the eshop. I have sunshine and prime. I love games that do not expire.

I hope they announce the return of virtual console.

@Lady_rosalina now we can add lollipop chainsaw to the list of poor running switch ports. I wasn't psychic! I don't know why you pretended they were not common, or it was hard to believe that this game was likely to run poorly. It is a shame though. I would have loved this to run properly. I'm glad I waited until performance reviews.

Bring back virtual console!

The wide joycons look too wide for use on its side. And the buttons are mushed up one side. Also, I hoped they would have brought back a d-pad. It is too big, would have preferred it to be switch lite size. No point in a bigger screen when you can connect it to a tv. Still looks like flimsy plastic, although maybe the new connection method will make it more sturdy. Day one purchase for me.
