Re: Microsoft To Share "Vision For The Future Of Xbox" Next Week

@HeadPirate some unsubstantiated claims. Neither Nintendo or Microsoft have announced future plans so his is is all speculation. You can't make conclusive claims based on rumour and hearsay. I am entitled to an opinion, based on previous track records that the next Nintendo console will lbe less powerful than its competitors. You are entitled to your speculation too but I don't think you are being realistic. I have a switch, a gaming PC, a steam deck and a ps5 so for people like me, we are not going to pay $60 or more for an inferior experience in switch. That said, I like playing overcooked with multiple joycons or Metroid Dread because it reminds me of playing fusion on GBA. I was looking forward to playing those very old batman Arkham games on switch until I saw the terrible performance. I like playing no more Heroes 2, which is an old Wii game that runs fine. I'm probably going to get a switch lite, if Nintendo do not announce a updated version because, some of the games, running on a console that small can still be called impressive, more impressive than steam deck in terms of convenience, its much more convenient size for a portable. I do like switch but I know Nintendo consoles do not compete directly with Xbox or PlayStation, and they don't even try to match the specs.

@HeadPirate series S is a more powerful machine than Switch. Doom does not run as well on switch, but it is an impressive port considering the hardware. As for speculating about unannounced possible hardware from Nintendo in the future, it will not match PS5, I would guess. The point is, that if Microsoft stop making consoles and both Sony and Nintendo keep doing what they usually do, the Nintendo console will be underpowered compared to the PS6 and 5080 graphics cards in next gen gaming pcs . Microsoft will be like most other developers, largely ignoring Nintendo when it comes to their AAA games but sending some old, last gen games or 2D smaller scale titles their way. I would love for a nintendo console that matched the competition but I seriously doubt we will get one.

Re: Hamster Corporation Celebrates 400 Arcade Archives Titles On Switch

@Mgalens NSO+ Expansion pack generally means that you are better off getting a Miyoo, Anbernic, retroid pocket or hacked 3DS to play old Nintendo games. The technical difficulty of using a legal backup of what you already own, is preferable to renting something you already own. I would rather buy a game twice than fiddle with extracting ROMs from cartridges, and that's why virtual console was the best way to combat piracy. That's why steam are doing so well against piracy, people would rather pay, a reasonable price, for something they own and will most likely run on their future devices, than mess with things on the internet that probably contain viruses. Resetting virtual console on Wii U and 3DS was pretty much theft, which is probably why they didn't reset it on Switch, but made people rent. I'm sure it was a choice of allowing accounts to roll over, so people could play what they bought before, reset virtual console for a third time and probably face legal action from fair trading regulators, or stop selling the games altogether. So Nintendo chose the most anti-consumer option that wouldn't see them end up in court.

Re: GAME Apparently Ending Physical Trade-Ins From Next Month (UK)

Moistnado

I still shop at places that do not offer trade-ins. I hate when you try to return a faulty game and they try to offer you a trade in value instead of a full refund, or suggest it was "tested" so I must have caused the damage or some other scam that you get with 2nd hand games. I also hate it when a 2nd hand game is similar price to a new one or presented as new. I prefer a straightforward purchase.

Re: Nintendo Switch Was The Console With The Most Game Releases In 2023

Moistnado

As a Switch and Steamdeck owner, I am sorry to say that Switch cannot compete. It is not shovelware, it is the AAAs. The real issue is that Swich cannot run contemporary games. Steam deck is not perfect but it runs a lot of games significantly better than the Switch. On top of that, I know that a game I bought in 2010 on steam is likely to work in 2090, something I cannot say about Nintendo games. Steamdeck can also run GBA, NES SNES, GC, N64 etc without a subscription because it is a PC, illegal but true.

Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

Moistnado

Hyper-NES, or Hyper-Nintendo. I think it signals that it isn't an mid-refresh switch (and instead looks like an improved SNES). Although these names with connotations of power will get ridiculed when the machine can't run contemporary videogames with adequate performance. So this name, only if the silicon chips are nice.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

Moistnado

I would like updated hardware. Nintendo will likely milk the Switch for all it is worth. They should release a switch lite OLED that can be docked. They could release all sorts of joycon and accessories. They could play into all of the fitness accessories or labo. They could release collections of SNES or GBA on cartridges. They could do "remasters" of GameCube and Wii games more. There is a lot that can be done with Switch before moving on.

Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?

Moistnado

It depends on whether the playing experience is better than the original switch. I hope for better build quality but it could be worse. I would love a more premium feeling, sturdy successor. If the successor is made of creaky, bendy plastic again, that cracks when you dock it. I'll keep my old switch on standby for when it breaks. Also, I am not sure that I'll get the next console.

Re: Unity's CEO And President Retires After Policy Debacle

Moistnado

@BenoitRen are you feeling OK? You take things very seriously and worry about unimportant things. Sure, a game engine will cost a little more to people who have already made money off the free at point of entry engine. It's not right to move the goalposts like they did but its not the end of the world, and they moved them back mostly. I wouldn't say it is morally wrong, that's a bit extreme. People will keep making games. I'm not a troll, you keep overreacting. I hope you are well.

Re: Unity's CEO And President Retires After Policy Debacle

Moistnado

@BenoitRen well, there was some rolling back. Whether a roll or a partial roll, to be honest, it's their company, they can do what they want. You might not like it, but it isn't up to you. Just use another engine if the price isn't to your liking. And if you don't use engines, maybe find something to care about that has more of an impact on your life. The weather perhaps?

Re: Unity's CEO And President Retires After Policy Debacle

Moistnado

He made a poor decision regarding how people pay for Unity. When it wasn't well received, they rolled it back. I don't know why this requires stepping down, surely he doesn't make these bad decisions in isolation; there would have been a lot of discussion prior. People do not want a sacrifice from a figurehead, they want an engine that doesn't move the goalposts in terms of pricing.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?

Moistnado

For me, videogames on Switch are overpriced. I have a steam deck and the same games are much cheaper on steam. With steam, seeing as you can't sell old games, I wait for the game to be similar to the price of a rental, like 90% off, and that can be done on steam regularly, but it can't on a Nintendo platform.
