The switch version of this game contains the first two years worth of DLC, which is almost good. That said, I like to buy my games in their complete form so this does not appeal to me.
I'm thinking the Switch 2 is a bug-ridden Switch 1 Pro. Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade considering I would expect a Switch 1 to run 2D pixel art games at 60fps, and they can't even confirm Switch 2 can do it. Considering Switch 2 merely plays a new Mario kart game and patched versions of Switch 1 games, it is pretty much a Switch 1 pro, but with poor implementation with compatibility problems.
Those people mocking the idea that this couldn't be a fully functioning Gameboy. I do not agree. With actual effort and innovation, they could have made one. That said, it wouldn't be Lego anymore. While it is realistically possible, i wouldn't expect such effort and innovation from Lego or Nintendo. While it would be cool to have all sorts of Lego things that actually work, it isn't worth the development cost and it isn't actually what Lego is for or what Lego does. They shouldn't have animated the screen on the advertisement, as it is misleading and created the expectation that this should function.
Some very creative mathematics to get to 170 million. Copyright was infringed but nothing was actually stolen. Nintendo steal from customers all the time with their lack of a reasonable refund policy and anti-consumer practices. I don't feel sorry for Nintendo, I think it serves them right. Perhaps the FBI investigate Joy-Con drift or the misleading description of the Switch 2 screen, the fiasco with people having their consoles blocked for using a second hand game.
Rather than blocking the user, they could have a pop-up requesting a unique code, printed on the cartridge. Or, if any of this is really necessary, ask, like people have been doing anyway, that the user email in a photo of the cartridge. If the user cannot provide a serial number, or cannot provide an image of the cartridge, I think then an initial warning should be given, explaining that if it persists the machine could be blocked and provide additional information and advice on how to avoid copied games. In addition, they should confirm the user, who is reading these notices is not under 18, because they cannot legally agree to terms and conditions and I can imagine kids skipping any kinds of warnings without reading them. Just blocking people, particularly on an expensive kids toy, should be illegal. Shame on Nintendo.
Firstly I refuse to pay for online subscriptions just to use my own internet connection with a device I paid for. This means all switches are blocked from online play for me. That said, if Nintendo blocked my ability to buy games online, that would be really dumb. The obvious solution would be to learn about other ways of getting the games beyond the store. Nintendo really has not thought this through. They are pushing people to boycott and pirate, or buy a different handheld.
I am happy that so many people are underwhelmed, just because I didn't get one. I have a lot of games to play on switch 1, PC, PS5. There are a range of better and cheaper ways to play GameCube games, that doesn't limit you to a few games. The mouse mode is literally 1960s technology. If Metroid prime 4 runs well on Switch 1, I'll be very happy with my choice not to buy a Switch 2 right now.
My switch is banned from using online services because I refuse to pay for NSO. It appears to be a ban via mutual agreement with Nintendo. I won't pay, and they won't let me play online for free.
@obijuankanoobie releasing something on the next console, when it could very well run on the previous model, just to drum up sales of the new machine is very anti-consumer. It wouldn't surprise me. Like when they pretended SNES games would only run on the New 3DS and not the 3DS. This kind of anti-consumer practice wouldn't push me to buy a Switch 2, it would put me off.
"Will you be grabbing your Joy-Con for some light gun action this August? Let us know in the usual spot." Quite a callously misleading question, seeing as the game is very unlikely to have a light gun and while one Joy-Con has an IR sensor it has never been used as a light gun. Many peoples choice to buy this game hinges on whether or not it has a light gun or IR pointer functionality.
No IR sensor no buy! What was the point releasing a HOTD without lightgun? They messed up the first game by omitting the most important feature and they will likely do it again with the sequel.
Switch 2 doesn't even have an OLED screen. There are a lot of better ways of playing Switch 1 games especially if you have a MIG switch to free the games from crappy, flimsy, Nintendo hardware.
Rather than a remaster of Other M, which I would like too, I would much rather see a new game. I would like to see a remake of Super Metroid and Fusion but I worry that it may not be good enough. I think there should be an updated port of Samus Returns too.
@Novuscourvous you make an interesting point. The worn off 07 and location of James' remains are circumstantial evidence, not conclusive. I had always thought there must be more to this story, seeing as there was a lot more set up than conclusive resolution. I did zone out during a lot of the voice over so maybe I missed something vital. I still think they could work on improving the plot in a remaster, I just feel like they needed a scene explaining the deleter more, but like I say I don't play games for plot and I really do love the game. One of the best games on Wii in my opinion.
I am not yet sold on Switch 2. Not planning on buying it yet. I have the opinion that the tech is old, and could have been released several years ago and they have not released a game I would pay $70 for(it would need to be very special). That said, this Nvidia guy made me think it was an impressive machine. I am a little bit more sold. Good marketing...Games please.
@Ratmasterd21 Switch 2 is an aging system before it is released. The good and bad is that games are optimized for consoles so they will run better on lower specs. It is most certainly not more powerful than new hardware but may get those ports that make it look like it can work wonders, just like switch 1. I would much rather buy a Steam deck or ROR Ally for well over the price of a Switch 2 because I have never paid $80, $70, $60, $50, $40, $30 for a AAA game on steam and Nintendo is still selling Breath of the wild for $70. that's insane. For the same reason, I bought a PS4 because the games ran better and cost significantly less than switch 1. As.a switch owner, I saved a lot of money by buying a PS4. Nintendo is Nintendo, it isn't going to change. Nintendo always overcharges.
I like the idea of buying a discounted switch OLED over an expensive switch 2 but the release of one game I can't live without could easily change that.
I suppose with a screen protector, if you scratch it, you can replace it, so this protective film probably does not replace a screen protector. That said, if Nintendo are adding a layer to the screen, why not make it a screen protector too?
I've been playing GameCube games via emulation for years on steam deck and this year on Retroid Pocket 5. Steam deck can run the Wii U HD Zelda with ease. RP5 can run it with some slowdown but it runs the original with HD textures and widescreen hacks better. I prefer RP5 as it is a little smaller than a switch lite and has an OLED screen, hall effect sticks. I'm also playing Wii, Wii U and Switch games on these devices. I own all of these games, so it is all legal, takes effort to extract the files and some tinkering but it results in a better user experience than Nintendo's rental of old games and the drip drip drip. I will buy a Switch 2 as soon as they release that killer app but not to play GameCube games.
@Ratmasterd21 is this a description of the steam deck or an ROG Ally? It certainly isn't a description of the Switch 2. The handhelds I mention, will support games well beyond 5 years, I'm not sure what is the most powerful handheld system ever made but it certainly isn't Switch 2. It has already been announced that Switch 2 cannot play all Switch games. The consoles I mentioned can play more Switch games than Switch 2. The $450 price tag omits the $80 price of a game. It is the game price that puts me off more than anything. On Steam you can get Cyberpunk 2077 for $40 today at full price. It is regularly on sale for $24. On Switch 2 it will be $70. The other issue is NSO which is 100% more expensive than the zero charge for using online functionality on the handheld systems I mentioned. So no, Switch 2 is terrible value for money.
Sadly nobody is guaranteed a job anymore. If you choose to work in creative types of jobs, like videogames, there is significantly less job security and far more competition. Working for a videogame studio is like risking it all for something you love. It's sad, but this can mean stints of unemployment.
While I'm sure this game has an audience, I am most certainly not it. All I see is PowerPoint like choppy poor animation and lame illustrations that would have benefited from using AI to make them look a bit more finished. And yes, the content is not appealing to me either. Good luck to them, I hope they find their niche market.
Not buying anything from Limited Run. They have a bad reputation. Seen too many reports of very long delivery times (years), poor quality product and terrible customer service.
I think Other M will age like Star Wars prequels. Other bad Metroid games will come out and people will look back on it more fondly. I think it was a great game back in the day. With an upscale and more accessible controls, and possibly a few tweaks in the plot department, as people were hypercritical of the plot. Personally I don't play games for plot. Perhaps they could finish the game so that you can actually find out who the deleter is. I would love to buy a remaster.
I personally really enjoyed Other M and have both of these figures. One of the few games I 100% completed. I now play Other M with control mods and higher resolution on a Retroid Pocket 5.
