I played Valiant Hearts: Coming Home last year on mobile. It was good. Nice short experience that will last you under 5 hours, assuming that they don’t add content to it. Its a great tour about some angles of WWII that don’t get talked about enough. Hopefully they tweak out the ports so that the animations are less flat and cutscenes don’t have abrupt endings when they’re showing rough moments.
Right now, I wonder how much it is a goal to get GamePass on other platforms. If there ends up being no Xbox hardware, does that get any approval from Sony/Nintendo?
Frankly, I don’t think there’s any situation where I do get an Xbox. My PS5 serves the same purpose and GamePass through Cloud takes care of the exclusives. That being said, Xbox looks like they have a great lineup to come with Indiana Jones, South of Midnight, Blade and Perfect Dark. And I would definitely purchase at least a couple of them, if it came to a platform I owned.
I’d have to give it to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Its gorgeous and feels incredibly tuned for 3DS. All the later Zelda remakes are going to suffer in my mind from not having access to a touch screen for inventory use. Ocarina is still my favorite Zelda game and the 3DS version just elevates it. For some reason, this is also the 3DS game with the strongest 3D depth effect, from all the ones that I’ve played, its pretty wild.
Honourable mentions to Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario Advance, Metroid Prime Trilogy (specifically the work done on Prime 1), Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, 3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure and all the remade courses throughout Mario Kart.
I might give this a shot, only because i really liked what The MIX did with Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl. Expect it to be fun, but also a bit on the short side.
Very interesting to hear that developers of the Nintendo games that they may be getting a microgame based off of has input. Move It! especially took ideas from more modern games, like Fire Emblem Engage, Paper Mario: The Origami King and Ring Fit Adventure and they’re all pretty clever.
Joanna always seems really passionate and cool in her presentations at Summer Game Fest/The Game Awards. Hoping this can work out for Blizzard, but given she was in a seat of leadership where she allowed crunch and half-assed releases follow through, I have major concerns for a studio like Blizzard, who are well known to sit on a product, typically until they feel it clicks.
Too bad. This game had pretty cool online multiplayer gameplay in that it was incredibly technical and focused on precision. Also, the Pre-Game chat had to be sent through Morse Code.
I just finished Rain Code last week. It was pretty good. I wish the pacing was better, but they were still nice detective cases. If this game is anywhere close to the production level, or intrigue as Rain Code, I’ll definitely wait for its release.
NL did Smash 3DS dirty, putting it below Brawl and 64. It has better stage design than Wii U, Smash Run a slew of unique collectables, a great rendition of Classic and All Star mode. DLC had parity with the Wii U version. It’s basically Smash Wii U, with a few adjustments and depending what you want out of Smash, eclipses Wii U.
I never had a major issue with Mincemeat. There have been far worse sniper-heavy maps in past Splatoons that people have grown to adore, like Moray and Arrowana. Playing Clam Blitz and Rainmaker here always feels like a tight match, but I do think mid/center could still feel less of a death sentence from it being so tight and make rollers a bit more viable.
No ownership means no repurcussions to lost content. Like the Just Dance content that you had to subscribe to but can’t anymore (or the content they removed due a week after launch), or the Ubisoft+ DLC that is no longer accessible or anyone who wants to access their Hyper Scape file.
I’m ok with subscribing to games, the amount of games I’ve beaten and regularly play through Nintendo Switch Online and Apple Arcade, its the most feasible option if you commit to it. But it comes with the risk that it can and will go away one day (in Apple Arcade’s case, much sooner, judging by the amount of games lost already and Rayman Mini is likely to be out of the picture this year as well).
It’s been a great series. Always succinct and bringing up excellent points in game design theory, from animation tips and examples, down to giving advice to pitching to publishers. Sakurai is my favorite game director and this series has been a massive gift to plenty.
@Thirteen1355 Maybe they used it somewhere in Mother 3’s promo material (nothing I have come across though), but the more often recognized tagline for 3 is “Strange, Funny and Heartrending.”
Mario Odyssey and the Mario Maker games feel like more of a departure of “Mario safeness” than Mario Wonder does to me. But I also think that the Mario series has consistently tried to be offbeat for years and New Super Mario Bros was just occasionally used as a template.
I’m kinda obsessed with these lengthy surveys. It also made me realize how many Spike Chunsoft games I’ve interacted with, with Master Detective Archives, YUNO, all the Zero Escape Games, Fitness Circuit and I have AI, that still needs to be played.
Amongst a lot of the Japanese developers, Spike Chunsoft is up there with the most personality. Hopefully they continue working with Too Kyo in the future, because I’m fascinated with what they put out.
Kinda wanted to make use of my unplayed DS version and then go into the Wii remake. Seems like that can’t happen. Still might get the game to experience with my friend.
Played the game through with my friend and while he liked it, I was pretty disappointed by it. Generic bleeds throughout the game, as though the studio feared they would lose the Mickey license a second time, so they’d pivot into scenery and content that could be non-distinguishable from anything Mickey related.
Also, the platforming is pretty lame and the story is dialogue is rambly. Surprised NL gave this game a 9, when I’d give it a 5 or possibly 4.
I could see it happening with Link/Zelda when Sony’s live action movie releases, given Spider-Man came to Fortnite shortly after Across the Spiderverse and Nathan Drake came shortly after the Tom Holland Uncharted movie and Ghostbusters also arrived a bit after Afterlife.
Maybe it’s foolish to think that Sony Pictures will have stakes in where Link’s likeness will show up in actual games media, especially since there’s importance to Nintendo characters justifying Nintendo platforms. But given that film is still new territory for Nintendo and there’s definitely the argument that Link in Fortnite would raise that oh so important “IP Value,” I don’t think it’s a firm no.
Seems weird that people in the comments are acting like SEGA doesn’t look at their past often already, when they’ve greenlit revivals for Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, Panzer Dragoon, Streets of Rage, Alex Kidd, House of the Dead, Chu Chu Rocket, Super Monkey Ball, Space Channel 5, Toejam & Earl, Wonder Boy, Samba de Amigo and Cosmic Smash all within the last few years.
Anyways, most looking forward to a new 3D Streets of Rage and I want to see either Pulseman or Seaman get revived.
You saw in the first few speeches that the music played rather fast until a bit later, but when the only cue the people have on stage is the promoter telling you to “wrap it up,” it doesn’t matter if the term is or isn’t cutting them off, they feel the pressure to conclude their speech and stop basking in the team’s massive accomplishment.
I get that this is for other people and Nintendo should do the update that makes the most people satisfied, especially when they had a whole year in the older format, but I do prefer the top 5% getting gold, as the reward is supposed to be incredibly tough and earned. But I also don’t care enough to put a silver or gold egg in my locker, regardless.
I couldn’t have popped off harder for Thrasher when I saw it. I don’t know if I’ve ever popped off harder for a sequel than Thrasher, since Thumper is definitely high up there for my favorite games of all time. Rhythm violence is back and it looks funky!
As for games announced for Switch, Rise of the Golden Idol looks great. Hoping this one is a native port, given that Case felt like they wanted to rush a Switch release during the hype of it, by making a Cloud version. For some reason, I feel optimistic that Rise of the Golden Idol won’t be running on Cloud, but at least its also available through Netflix.

Europe easy. It actually has 11 players as advertised.

Deserved. It was a great trailer.

I saw a clip of this Skyway issue. That would frustrate me to no end if it happened to me. Good swift patch.
Re: Nintendo Has Seemingly Filed More Patents For Mario Wonder And Zelda: TOTK
This is dumb. The ghost mechanic isn’t even entirely original. You can find it in games like Cuphead
Re: Random: Capcom Survey Asks If Fans Want Sequels To Okami, Dino Crisis, More
I put my votes for Onimusha and Rival Schools. But I love how they also have a question dedicated to complaining about them.

@Dman10 You’re right! My bad. It absolutely is about WWI.

Alllllrighty then! Sounds like Sonic 3 is going to keep the momentum going from Sonic 2, which was a big improvement from Sonic 1 imo.

Dang. I thought Nintendo would have paid Aonuma enough for producing to not have a construction side-gig.
