Crazy, for how much acclaim and success Tango’s games have been touted that it just gets shuttered. Maybe this is an off-base assumption, but it feels like Tango is paying the price of Starfield not being the phenomenon of past Bethesda titles of its size.
Ghostwire particularly was a fun game for me to finish and will be recognized at the very least as a cult classic to come.
Crushing to see closures from a massive publisher like Xbox and the closures are likely to eclipse all the closures we saw in the early 2010’s.
I’ve played this game for a few hours and yeah, the performance is pretty bad. I’m still going to pull through with the game, because I do like the gameplay, world and mechanics.
Even though a lot of Japanese box arts have had the philosophy of keeping things simple and have focus on one or two things/characters to carry the box, the Japanese Mario Paint does feel like a sloppy predecessor to Wii Series box arts, emphasizing peripheral, purpose and novelty under a basic background. I don’t like either box arts, but I dig the JPN design a bit more.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is one of the few co-op games me and my best friend beat together. Great title. As for Pushmo, I really wish it can return it’s such a clever puzzler with a stellar art style.
This is one of the most impressive Switch peripherals I’ve seen in a few years. Seems a bit tiny to be ideal, but its really capturing that novelty that would still make me want to play games entirely with it.
Asmodee right now is the only thing in Embracer that is actually hitting out of the park, so this move makes complete sense.
Interesting that they would have the Coffee Stain has the lead team and name over THQ. Coffee Stain has come a long way from making the funny goat Game Jam game, but their publishing crew has undeniable hits with Huntdown, Valheim and Deep Rock Galactic.
Seems lame to do for a game that’s being marketed on its authenticity to the original trilogy. I feel like we’re mature enough to recognize that this content came from a different time, was made for a certain demographic and was made by different people, without having to remove this content. I’d love to see what the internal discussion is like amongst Aspyr about this and get a grasp of who as a developer felt offput about this.
Among all the games shown, Yars Rising is the one that has my interest piqued. 2024 is looking to be a great year for Metroidvanias with Prince of Persia, Tales of Kenzara, Yars Rising, Shantae Advance, Ender Magnolia and maybe (just maybe) Hollow Knight: Silksong
I remember Keza for her time at IGN. It’s cool to see that she’s still writing and writing books no less! I’ll keep an eye on this book. Glad to see so many good games industry related books out now and coming soon. A much bigger swing than we’ve seen even 10 years ago outside of magazines.
Awesome. I love how the curation of Indie World has been to feature devs from around the globe. It’s been a while since I’ve taken to any of the games in a showcase though.
Undertow Spillway is amongst my least favorite stages in Splatoon 3, because it’s so awkward to move around. Tower Control especially is a pain on this one because of its jagged terrain. It’s real only advantage is that this is the stage with the most incentive to Super Jump in the middle of the area, where most stages will punish you when things get rough.
Bears! My adorable galoot of a dog already looks close enough to be a bear to the point that people on the street thought he was one, so it would be wrong if I don’t step up for my cuddly bears.
I’ll be finishing up Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright, as it feels like I’m hitting the last chapter, as all but 1 of the mysteries are stamped gold. For those that don’t know, the game has an epilogue chapter that is only unlocked after beating the game and connecting to internet, so it will only be available for about another week. But yeah, I’m loving so much about this game, it’s amongst the best games in the Layton series. I treasure all the games in the series and I haven’t played a mainline one in so long, so I’m just loving my time. Biggest issue is that the puzzles are very very easy.
@mereel There’s definitely an awful error in consumer logic if the pre-requisite of every perceived good female character design has to be that they look pretty first and foremost, otherwise we get complaints like yours. It leads to far less interesting character designs, especially in the long run.
I can’t choose! They’re both phenomenal. I guess there’s something to BOTW not having felt topped over TotK for me, but they hone in on different things and really trade advantages and minor stumbles in a lot of categories.
I was getting some bad vibes from the game, but I’m surprised to hear that some of the roguelike elements are worthwhile. Sounds like it could be a guilty pleasure game if the Switch version ran competently.
If I played Scribblenauts and asked myself how it can be topped, I think Europe’s fancy tennis playing dinosaur does a great job of showing how goofy verbs and adjectives can change the game. It also just looks wicked.
The Super Mario Wonder event felt like a joke and a bad reskin of their golden goomba event. At least this looks like it took more work. I guess any reason to go back to Mario Run is a good one.
Edit: About an hour to take to beat. Tougher missions than I expected.
I’ll take Japan’s side here, but I’m a bit peeved they got rid of the “For all players hoping to touch the true entertainment” saying that you can find under Mario Golf 64’s Japanese logo. Is GBC Mario Golf not true entertainment?
I would put Super Metroid or Metroid Prime over the original Metroid in the Hall of Fame. When push comes to shove, I’d rather not see Metroid be inducted amongst this group.
It’s a great potential lineup of inductees this year though. The one I’d say belongs there the most is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Still, one of the highest praised games of all time. It’s one of the few console games at its time to have such a huge cultural swing during its time. Tony Hawk, who’s is recognized as the legend in his sport, put a huge mark into the series like no other sports game or really any celebrity associated game beyond Earthbound/Mother. Most importantly, it’s also gameplay that stood the test of time, which is more than can be said for a few a few of these nominees if I’m being honest.
I put so much time into Splatoon 1. If I remember right, I was pretty close to reaching the Level 50 cap, so I would like to go back for another whirl with the game before the shutdown.
Nowadays, I mostly just play Splatoon 3 anyways. After Splatoon 2, which I put a good few dozen hours into, but didn’t play near as much and missed far more Splatfests, I didn’t think I would involve myself as much into the Splatoon series. But Splatoon 3 is now my most played game my a grand margin, having put over 1,250 hours into it so far, with no sign of stopping.
Of the main Mario games, I think the one I’d have to argue for most underrated is New Super Mario Bros. 2. If you’re playing that game with the objective of collecting coins and earning high scores, this game has a completely different vibe from the other 3 New Super Mario Bros games and I put plenty of hours into this much more arcadey approach to the series.
Of the side Mario games, I’d argue Super Mario Party, Mario and Luigi Paper Jam and Mario Strikers: Battle League are all very underrated.
Those Minigames were fun! I spent a lot of time with Trampoline Time, juggling Marios around and frantically trying to get the right angle.
Mario Maker on Wii U had remade Fly Swatter to work with the Gamepad, this and Mario Maker as a whole is the type of weird energy I crave. There was also the Luigi Bros. bonus game in Super Mario 3D World on Wii U, which was really only there because people really liked the concept of Year of Luigi.
Judging on how Luigi’s Mansion 3 didn’t make a wild impression with its 8 Player side games, or how Super Mario Party’s content was criticized for being so spread out Vs. Mario Party Superstar’s much more direct approach, I would have to wonder how much Nintendo would have to care any longer in funding the time for stuff that’s not going to contribute to the game’s pitch. But, then again, they’re still consistent in working on Splatoon 3’s Tableturf Battles, which is deemed forgettable for a lot of players that aren’t me.

Avalanche, had already briefly shut down prior, when having to stop development in Disney Infinity 3.0. The studio would have disappeared had WB not come in part way of Disney Interactive’s closure. So to see them go from a game too big to continue success and just nearly costed the entire studio their livelihood, to exponential success in their contained product, to another potential ongoing project just seems to be a recipe for history to literally repeat itself again.

This was the best Partner Showcase. Plenty of same-day releases. Alot of good relevant games. Genuinely surprised to have seen Super Monkey Ball, Monster Hunter Stories Remake ad Epic Mickey Remake there, all of which hit on my level, I’m really not sure how a Partner Showcase could have reasonably improved. Alot of the games looked very interesting.

Ultimate NES Remix was great. I wish we’d get more, but I do wonder how tricky it would be with anything more complex than NES.
