@Pillowpants I think one thing the game the trailer does well is prepping you in a change of art style and possibly tone, considering most Borderlands games try cracking jokes every half second.
Gamescom’s awards, based partly on behind the scenes demos and a well edited trailer were already the dumbest part of the show. It’s not like a film festival, where critics are able to judge the whole product, instead you’re judging it upon a fraction’s fraction of the entire game. So, at least avoiding the Nintendo portion will speed things up a bit.
But still, separating awards by console is still dumb for the most part. No console, especially Xbox, produce many exclusives anymore. Last year’s best Xbox and PS games were Mortal Kombat and Tekken, both multiplatform, showing that this award is entirely moot. It’s something that was a lot more commonplace pre-PS4/Xbox One/Wii U and made sense then, but it’s so telling how pointless it is nowadays with Gamescom and a few other fringe publications being the only ones left to hand awards partly by console ecosystem.
Finished this one on Apple Arcade a few years back, it didn’t impress me.The art style is cool and kinda reminds me of some of the diagrams you’d see in elementary school textbooks. But its also kinda just a glorified game of Simon. Its slow there isn’t much to do than move straight. The chase section is pretty memorable though.
As far as games under the radar go, it’s interesting to see The Lulluby of Life here. It was another delisted Apple Arcade game. Not a very good in my opinion, but I still like the art style.
We’re well into the Switch’s lifetime where if they were doing that, we’d see it by now. Nintendo would rather want for you to take advantages of limited time sales or have promotions be tied to paying for Switch Online. Its the same reason why Switch models haven’t dropped in price.
I would like to see it though. I tried out Punch Out! through Wii’s Nintendo Selects line, as well as Star Fox 64 3D. The Switch is in so much of a good state right now that I haven’t played nearly every 1st Party game. If Animal Crossing, Mario Maker 2, ARMS, Mario Golf or Astral Chain were Nintendo Selects titles, I could easily see myself jumping on the chance to get them
@Clammy Getting these things to move can be a bit tricky if you’re not used to LEGO. I’ve had to put a lot of hours just to get the Might Bowser on properly. Even Piranha Plant took me somewhere a bit under 3 hours.
Dang. That’s neat. I’m loving all these more complex Nintendo LEGO sets. Not sure if I’ll pick up this, especially over the Deku Tree set, but let’s keep these 18+ LEGO collabs coming
I’m kinda surprised it took Nintendo a month to respond to this. It came to the point where I thought there was a chance it was going to get blown over. Thank goodness it’s not and everything they had fought for is taken away. Competitive Splatoon brings the community together and it was fun to see that during the championship.
The amiibo look stunning. I definitely want to use Marie’s jacket in battle.
The Splatfest happens during the time of my vacation, so playing will be a bit tricky. But all the more reason to rep Team Present. But I need all the shirts and that goofy wristband.
Honestly, this game looks much less exciting compared to what NES Remix and Ultimate NES Remix had. The aesthetic is uglier and really doesn’t have to be tied to NWC. They got rid of the remix challenges that changed the games slightly. There are no bonus modes like the NWC mode or Speed Mario Bros. It has less games than the Wii U Edition. And the multiplayer mode looks far less exciting beyond the base fact that Nintendo is still supporting 8-Player games. This feels like the Nintendo Switch Sports equivalent to NES Remix with less appealing content, in favor of attempting multiplayer features that will likely have little impact.
I try to go on a pretty rigid diet, so pasta is immediately off the table. I’ve cut rice mostly out of my diet but I can’t stop myself from cutting Subway for a nice and easy turkey footlong on flatbread.
@OctoCallie20 People love Big Man. Life is better with Big Man than without Big Man.
I think you take these themes too seriously. This game’s entire aesthetic is goofy and so are the themes. This one is supposed to emit summer vibes and it simply does the job, not to mention, they put the work into new music, new designs and setting decorations for a 2 day event. its still reinvigorating to plenty.
The Legendary Starfy on DS is one of my least favorite Nintendo games for how oddly slow paced it was and for how bad the dialogue is. It’s neat that these games have come over for the first time though. Maybe I need to give these games a try just in case. After all, Super Princess Peach is adjacent to the series and that game was fun.
If Nintendo is willing to bring Japanese import GBA games…why not just release the Japanese ROM of Mother 3? In seriousness, this does open it up to bring Rhythm Tengoku and the Bit Generations games
Vince Carter on the Legends cover is awesome to see. Seeing how teams could go decades without much identity and how the alternate expansion team, Vancouver Grizzlies, crashed and burned, Carter made Raptors fun to watch during his time and revitalized basketball. Despite being years well removed from the Championship team, there’s still an argument of him being the greatest Raptor.
So the grand total for Switch Sports is 8 sports. 3 from Wii, 2 from Resort and 3 original.
I put somewhere around the range of 150 hours in Switch Sports, but I don’t have interest going back to play this. Wasn’t a fan of Basketball in Resort, although the 3-Point challenge was a favorite in my household.
I’ve heard good stuff about Cobra Triangle over the years, it certainly seems to be another game that’s impressive to see run from Rare, like Snake Rattle and Roll
Golf is alright. It’s a bit tricky to get the hang of. Really pales in comparison to its successor with NES Open Tournament Golf.
Urban Champion is not good and wasn’t even good for its time. It’s a clunkier, slower, more frustrating Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em.
Mach Rider is north of good. I mean the music speaks for itself. That’s still a bop. It’s just very hard. It asks you to be perfect pretty immediately.
Shin Onigashima in Japan is kinda interesting. Kinda thought Mages would eventually remake that, similar to their work on Famicom Detective Club. But I feel like an NSO release kinda crosses it off the possibilities.
Rough to see all of these EA Originals devs continually shedding talent, despite the revenue share reportedly being very generous to developers and most of these games getting decent marketing at the least. Immortals, Rocket Arena, Zau and Knockout City all faced similar issues, while It Takes Two is still breaking milestones and received GOTY awards.
With none of these games being necessarily bad and Take Two’s Private Division seemingly being a skeleton crew, I do fear that more games with the scope of most of these aren’t going to be taken on more in the future, especially with AAA devs greenlighting less games, hoping for bigger swings and Embracer trying to fill that mantle, but ended up going into trashfire mode.
I don’t really have a concern in revisiting games out of a fear that memories don’t live up to the product. A lot of titles have jank or poorly aged mechanics and I find enjoyment in most of them
That being said, I do have bit of a different answer, of a game that I’m turned of going back on, and that’s the 2019 PS4/PC game, Wattam. I stopped playing partway through because it was too charming and enjoyful that it didn’t seem right to play the game all in one short go. During some time off it was revealed that the working conditions at Funomena were quite abusive and heated. I don’t know if I can have the same enjoyment going through the rest of Wattam without considering how much of a terror production was, in contrast to how cheerful of an aesthetic the game has.
I do like the Aerial Blooper as an icon. I do have a soft spot for Lost Levels. I’ll consider replaying it (On Game & Watch with infinite lives), since I am finishing up on my 2nd run of Mario Wonder.
Never been a big fan of beaches. I’ve spent summers on a beachfront cottage as a child and I’d still spend my day playing Shadow the Hedgehog and Tetris DS.
Don’t really see the value of a palace. Its just a roomier house. I’m currently house sitting as it is and I feel like this place too big for me.
Reserving a theme park sounds like an excellent opportunity to stack a day’s worth of fun activities. Some of my favorite days of my own life already have been spent in theme parks, so to have that opportunity without waiting or reserving sounds too spectacular.
TooKyo games have stayed on my radar, having completed World’s End Club & Raincode. Even though both are pretty flawed games, I still enjoyed my time and they have a lot of originality. Hundred Line is shaping up similarly and I’ll definitely consider getting into this as well.
Splatoon 3. This is presumably the last Big Run and an opportunity to save your time achieving scales with 3x the rewards. However, doing so means facing the Triumvrate, all 3 King Salmonid mega bosses. All 3 of them together is a lot. It’s chaotic and an incredible challenge, even with the buffed weapons and increased specials, but I love when Splatoon shows bite and has to show some challenge.
I beat Mega Man V a couple years ago. Its a good Mega Man game if you’re looking for a more forgiving and smaller Mega Mn experience. Don’t be afraid to jump straight into V.
Never played Yooka Laylee, but I did rewatch a scathing review from its launch just yesterday. I’m very interested to see how this turns out, would love to get into an old school 3D Platformer.
I don’t get the disgust around Funko Pops. This one in particular looks fine, but that also might be since stuffed bears, similar to Banjo’s design often have similar beads as eyes.
You can unlock these all in 30ish minutes. Love that these Mario spinoffs get some collab love. Goombella and Koops are awesome characters and are welcome in my Mushroom Kingdom.
Its excellent to read that the remake took the time to not shy away from Vivian’s backstory.
I wasn’t initially going to pick this game up, in favor of playing all the recent Switch hits that released, but all of this praise, tied with me never ending up beating the original GCN game, might make me take on this gem again.
Other than Europe’s taking place in Zootopia (yes, that’s the actual name of Adventure’s amusement park setting), which I thought was really cool at the time. It really has nothing over North America’s. How do you make a Super Monkey Ball cover without putting him in the ball?
@PikminMarioKirby Nintendo Canada has done a few sponsored streams in the past. It’s still very rare, with it being 4+ years since they last did their series of streams, but even in that one, they collaborated with TheDragonFeeney multiple times.
There’s something really tempting me to get it, just so I can put it next to my Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light glass cartridge. But overall, I’m not as interested in this game as is, or most of its collector’s edition goodies, as much as I liked Ultimate NES Remix.
I’m happy that Stadia exclusives are finding a way on other platforms since Google shut it all down, but this game was not fun when I played it then. It’s weird emphasis on rigid customization features, how sluggish it can all feel, it just felt like an awkward experience.
I can’t get a good grasp of what Reynatis is going to be like. It’s got legends involved in the making though. This NEO content will surely keep it in my mind as well.

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror deserves to be lower.
My personal top 5 (As of August 12 2024)
1. Super Mario Bros. 3 Advance
2. Warioware Inc
3. Fire Emblem
4. Yoshi’s Island
5. A Link to the Past + Four Swords
