Re: Opinion: Miiverse Was Fine, But Does Anybody Really Want It Back In 2025?

Kyloctopus

Miiverse was definitely flawed from the getgo, but I do miss it as a way to journal your backlog, as Iwata claimed it was intended to be. I liked using the browser site during my lunch breaks to see other people’s game experiences. I think it incentivized people to play less popular games to rule another game’s “played” feed. And it was really good at grasping how good a game was by the people proven to have known it.

I used it far less in its later end, but I do still tend to journal the games I play and with some additional QOL features had Miiverse returned to Switch, I still see it being effective.

Re: Community: What Are Your Favourite Sidequests On Switch?

Kyloctopus

Tarrey Town is #1, but I like the sidequest in Echoes of Wisdom with the kid obsessed with Zols.

Also, since I beat Mario & Luigi: Brothership recently, the sidequest about the guy fawning over Birdo and the sidequest where Mario and Luigi eavesdrop on the women come to mind. Also, the sidequest where you have to deliver a certain package in Lottacoins.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Has The Potential To "Rival 3D Mario", Says Ori Dev

Kyloctopus

It speaks for how revoltutionary and snappy Mario 64 felt, that Banjo Kazooie and Crash 2 were really the only 3D platformers that rivaled it in acclaim during its generation.
3D Platformers have been an untapped market for years and hopefully Xbox Game Studios will see Astro Bot as inspiration to give it their all.

Re: Nintendo Is "Very Upset" About The Switch 2 Leaks, It's Claimed

Kyloctopus

Alot of comments here are blaming Nintendo for their approach, but frankly, things wouldn’t change if the “Switch 2” marketing plan started 6 months ago. Certain people will reveal anything to anyone for attention, once info is available.

Switch 1 hardware information was also leaked to all hell within the Summer before the Switch 1 was revealed and for what its worth, its still very wild how mum everyone has been on launch titles, especially from 1st Party teams.

Re: PS5 Will Sell More Than 'Switch 2' In The US This Year, Says Analyst

Kyloctopus

I respect alot of what Mat has to say at Circana. You watch any interview of his and he has alot of data regarding how North American customers purchase and takes the job quite seriously.

As it is right now, alot of people are still saving for a PS5 and waiting to get Grand Theft Auto VI. Its launch will be staggering to the point where about everyone in the industry is hoping for it to be the game that re-energizes the market wholely in a “rising tide” kind of way. The Switch successor will be big, but GTAVI will take over the masses if it can stay in the schedule.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2024 - Our Most Played Games

Kyloctopus

My top 3 were Splatoon 3, GBA-NSO (Mainly A Link to the Past) and Echoes of Wisdom. So all things considered, a good year for Nintendo but also a good year for Zelda.

Gonçalo‘s Ace Combat 7 placing though is really cool. Really neat that Bandai Namco would choose to port that game with so much time separated from the original release. Amd I’ve heard nothing but praise for the Switch port.

Re: Your 'Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2024' Stats Are Available Now

Kyloctopus

Top 3:
Splatoon 3 (479 hours)

Game Boy Advance - Nintendo Switch Online (Mainly The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past + Four Swords) (39 hours)

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (38 hours)

694 total hours

Other details:

First game this year: Master Detective Archives: RAINCODE
Most Played Month: January (89 hours)
Most played game in months January - September: Splatoon 3
October: The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
November: Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Top Genre: Action (48%) & Shooter (42%)
Favorite Game: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Also, Mario & Luigi: Brothership probably could have cracked the top 3 if December counted because I’m really cracking through that game and its way lengthier than I presumed.

  • Most played in past years:
    2019: Octopath Traveler
    2020: Ring Fit Adventure
    2021: Warioware: Get it Together!
    2022: Splatoon 3
    2023: Splatoon 3

Re: Nintendo Considered Giving Up On 'Mario & Luigi' Before Approaching Acquire

Kyloctopus

I’m about halfway through Brothership and although it was a slog in those first several hours, its been shaping up to be funny and deeper as an RPG than I imagined. I like the different approaches it has on the gameplay compared to the rest, feeling a bit more traditional than Paper Jam and Dream Team did, but also fitting the Mario and Luigi appeal. Its definitely the game I’d most emplore you to “wait until it gets good.”

Re: The Game Awards 2024 Nominees Have Been Revealed - Zelda, Mario And Metroid Nominated

Kyloctopus

I thought Helldivers would get nominated for either GOTY or Game Direction over Black Myth Wukong. I’d argue Helldivers has better direction than all of the nominees.

Very interested to see where Best Sports/Racing game goes this year. Kinda thought EA College Football would make in the nominees and even take the award, but maybe its too American focused to earn the nom, where at least NBA has global appeal.

Given the pretty small amount of game adaptations released yearly, I was wondering if the well dislikedBorderlands movie would be nominated by default. Thankfully that’s not the case. Regardless though, Arcane Season 2 really doesn’t have any competition, even though and it just squeezed through in the nominations too, which is a shame for Fallout’s case.

Erdtree deserves its Game of the Year nom. Its an entirely different game from Elden Ring. Different campaign, different mechanics, different progression, different enemies, all of which is done very well. It’d be a shame to not recognize it as one of the best games this year because of semantics and technicalities.

My guess is either Astro Bot or Metaphor win Game of the Year. Leaning more towards Astro Bot, since I don’t know how confident a panel would be to award a game that’s in the triple digits in runtime and its been released for a month and half.

Re: Expansion Packs And DLC Are Now "Eligible In All Categories" At The Game Awards

Kyloctopus

This is the right choice. These awards should celebrate the best to come from this year and shouldn’t turn its head away because its building directly off of a previous release. In the case of Erdtree, its essentially treated as an entirely new game within Elden Ring. Plenty of thought and effort went into Erdtree than what you would see in other major releases like Princess Peach Showtime. Let the cream rise to the top.

The idea of a “best expansion” nomination is tricky because frankly DLC expansions have been less popular in recent years. Its like how some years in the “Best Fighting Game” category or “Best Sports Game” category are just write-ins. I’d rather it belong to something like the Best Ongoing Game category to reward innovative ideas within an established product. The nominations get alot deeper in competition that way.

Re: Feature: "Time To Laughter Is Like Zero" - Jackbox Games CEO On Quiplash, T-Shirts, And 10 Years Of Party Packs

Kyloctopus

Fun interview. I’ve played all the Jackbox Games available on Switch, including the recent Naughty Pack and Survey Scramble. The Jackbox Survey Scramble in particular is one of my favorite games of this year and one of my favorite Jackbox Games in quite a while, as it blends aspects from Guesspionage and The Poll Mine. Looking forward to the upcoming game modes to be added as well.
