Its been nothing but Kirby Air Riders for the last month and I’m not close to being over it. I’ll spend the bulk of my time with Ranked, but I might go through some Checklist challenges as wel.
Dang. Was hoping to see this come to Switch 2. Seemed like a no-brainer to have it ready for Fire & Ash. No matter, its really neat to see the game continued to be worked on for what almost feels like a second launch
Nice to see a team confidently say its done as is.
Of course, there are plans to keep activity going with special events, which have so far been pretty fun and I see myself staying with this game for a while.
@Shade_Koopa To be fair, he said the same thing about no longer directing Smash Bros… multiple times.
I love looking at these reviews, early or not, but its a bit of a pet peeve of mine that stats typically don’t count December. That’s a pretty pivitol time for people to play games.
Last year’s stats had to withold the large amount of time I played Mario & Luigi: Brothership because I played the bulk of that in December. This month I’ve been spending alot of time with Kirby Air Riders; so much that it will probably be in my Top 3 most played games, but will still probably pale in comparison to my Mario Kart World hours and maybe even my Splatoon 3 hours. But, had the review not logged December, it would maybe hit the Top 5.
I had an okay time with Welcome Tour. It has some interesting curios and games, but alot of it is just pretty simple games based off of mouse controls, some of which seem like they would have felt better with the Wii’s motion sensor honestly. Surprising difficulty in some areas though and I did find the environments and museum atmosphere pretty comforting. Certainly a mixed bag of a game, that doesn’t reach its full potential, but I was appreciative of how in-depth Nintendo wanted to go in teaching people about their system’s internals, which might go some ways into teaching people some basic STEM.
This is the closest we’ve gotten to a video-game Razzies though, down to it happening a day before The Game Awards. So, putting GameStop’s age-old terrible reputation aside, I like the quirkiness going on here;
Would love to see this (or Consume Me) win Games for Impact at at The Game Awards later this week. Love seeing personal stories becoming playable. The audio design in the game is particularly detailed.
I got this day 1 and while I haven’t spent too much time with it yet, I was kind’ve wowed by the UI design. Its very well thought out. Really excited to finally play Device 6.
Never stopped to notice how different the User GOTY is from most, even Nintendo based exitorial GOTY. Judging how it tends to be a Japanese game with a core fanbase…maybe its The Hundred Line’s year?
I came across a weird glitch yesterday, where Dedede’s special lasted for the remainder of the City Trial. My speed was accelerated, but the hammer attack was normal.
Also, I notice some Air Ride stages just appear incredibly uncommon during specific times. As far as I know, stage selection isn’t determinded by time of day, like Splatoon, but it does feel like it.
I actually bought doubles of Waddle Dee/Winged Star and Kirby/Warp Star, because i want multiples of the machines.
I hope this series gets fully lives through and we get a whole collection. Seems unlikely, but I just really like the designs for all of these vehicles.
My brothers and I are so excited for this game, with Air Riders being the main selling point for them to upgrade to Switch 2. I got the game and my amiibo pre-ordered. Had a great time with the Global Test Ride. This is the sequel I’ve wanted for so long and cannot believe its happening. I’m overjoyed to see they hit the mark again.
I love how Mega Evolutiona are just taking a past Pokémon’s form and just giving it some weird physical aspect. Like, what if we gave Ampharos flowing locks, or Starmie bipedal ability? The fans of Pokémon and the artists inspired by Pokémon love interpreting more to Pokémon than initially designed and is goes all the way to the 90’s. This alongside Tyflosion’s recreational habits interpreted after Legends: Arceus are my favorite.
Breath and Tears making it onto the list as 1 and 2. I’d personally have Breath over Tears because Tears’ story and pacing is just atrocious, but they are the best games…for now anyways.
F-Zero X over GX. Its against the grain, but I think its also true. X is a tighter and more fair game. GX just has better animations and visuals.
They saved a spot for The World Ends With You, Elite Beat Agents, Ring Fit Adventure and a pretty high spot for 3D World+Bower’s Fury
What I disagree with this list
Kid Icarus Uprising is an easy Top 100. I’d like to hear the discussions of how this missed the mark. No representation from the retro Kirby’s like Nightmare in Dreamland/Adventure or (my favorite) Super Star/Super Star Ultra is a bummer too. Also, Pushmo is a worthy Top 100, but that’s more understandable.
I think A Link to the Past is too high and we need to look at these games more critically about how worse it (and other SNES games) have aged over time, similar to NES games.
Feels weird to have Donkey Kong and follow it up shortly with Donkey Kong GB. Wouldn’t have put Donkey Kong up on the list personally.
I liked it for having a pretty weird sense of strategy. Between the turnip game, the small differences between playing on whichever month or using a villager as your dice card (in exchange for a happy point). The charming scenarios really put you more in the life of these characters like Blathers and Resetti. Also, you can transfer the houses you made in Happy Home Designer to amiibo Festival. Also, this game has the same fading grass effect that past Animal Crossing games have, that can make towns have gisnt trails of grass missing, which is just comedic commitment to an awful feature.
Its not a great game mechanically, but its got more charm than people give it credit for.
Very neat that Oh Bibi had the opportunity to work with a major Playstation series. I’ve seen their work with BEAST, which was an Apple Arcade exclusive hero shooter, which is on Switch now and its got a great style to it. Best of luck to the team.
Hi-Fi Rush seemed like it was pretty far in development before being canned. Still would appreciate that game coming to Switch 2, but that’s out of Microsoft’s hands now.
Looking at the rest of their lineup, I’m not that surprised. Alot of these games missed their moment and likely would not have made a splash, or are too technically demanding, especially for Switch 1, even though Bethesda’s studios have some great teams for Switch ports. I do think we’ll get more in the coming years, for what its worth.
Games I would like to see from Xbox/Bethesda come to Switch/Switch 2:
That’s upsetting. I’ve appreciated how Nintendo has typically launched with physical releases across the Switch’s and Switch 2’s lifetime and I’d hate for this to break the trend. I don’t purchase too many physical games, and likely would not have bothered with Pokopia, but there’s alot of series around Nintendo that I do like and would like getting physically, including Kirby Air Riders next week. I hope this is a one-off thing and game compression & optimization gets better, because I’m really holding off on getting a microsd card or playing the data management game.
There are alot of good deals here. For anyone curious about Splatoon 3 at that price, it is definitely worth it. The online scene is still large and you won’t be waiting in lobbies. Seasonal events like Splatfests (PvP) and Big Run (PvE), while aren’t in a regular cadence, still occur and make for some fun weekends. Controls and mechanics are easy to learn, so you should find success relatively early. The campaign is also really good.
It looks kind’ve like they’re going to make Yoshi puppy-like, with its head proportionally even larger than the typical design. The render where he’s getting launched with Mario makes him look like he has a one-track mind.
Games that I hope make it, but aren’t guaranteed to be listed:
Warioware Gold
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Kirby’s Dream Land 2
Kirby’s Epic Yarn
F-Zero X
Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball
Mario Power Tennis
Elite Beat Agents
Nintendo Land
Ring Fit Adventure
Zelda II
I do hope there are big swings and hot takes on this list that do challenge how we think of some of these games, rather than perpetuate an old status quo. High profile lists like this do go far in the long run of these games’ legacies and really help some games age better than they were initially perceived. Super Mario World is a big example of this, as it wasn’t a huge hit by critics but eventually became incredibly praised.
I never purchased New Horizons because I didn’t like how only 1 villager per island had access to forming land. I just don’t think it feels right that one player has so much more say over the town, when the fun of Animal Crossing with a shared town for me was that shared responsibility. Slumber Island seems like a great solution to that. Its definitely putting New Horizons back on my radar.
Really neat! I had tried playing Lorelai on Switch earlier this year, but frankly, I think I’m too dumb to complete it 🤣. I made it at around the 75% completion point. Simogo has stated that alot of people won’t beat it on their first attempt, so that’s encouraging and maybe I’ll give it a 2nd shot from the top when its on Switch 2.
I’ve also wanted to give SPLT, DEVICE-6 and Year Walk a try, so looking forward to this collection. The book is also enticing. Lost in Cult makes some good stuff.
Its so expensive…but I want them all! I want every ride and every character and I’d save up for a complete set. I just love those ride designs. If they look as good as the images show, these might be my favorite amiibo.
I’ve been spending alot of my time completing Emerald Rush on every layer. Its been more fun than the main game for me, Looking forward to the statue event, especially since I just got all available statues from Squawks last night.
I’ve bought the Pokemon Mini Link and the Splatoon 3 Mini Link 2 but hardly used either. Surely I’m not going to be fooled to buy another one of these…right?

I’ll definitely keep collecting the statues, granted I’d like to see more challenge in these events, rather than just minmaxing for easy V-Ranks.
Regardless, I’m still playing alot of Bananza, thanks to Emerald Rush. I’m trying to clear every Layer’s Level 1-7 run and I only have 3 layers left.
