Re: Surprise! Heart Machine's 'Solar Ash' Slides Onto Switch Next Week

@Vyacheslav333 the small screen in handheld just makes lower resolutions not look as noticable as compared to playing docked. It's just objective that 540p will look sharper on a 6 or 7 inch 720p display, where the pixel density is much higher than a 50 inch 4k tv. Obviously even then there's limits, a game running at extremely low resolutions like 240p will still look muddy even in handheld mode, but 540p is still in that range where it looks decent.

Re: Sonic Origins Plus Update Goes Live On Switch, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

JeongersGaming

Oh cool. It took them way to long to fix the lack of a no filter option, but at least it's here now. Fixing the Game Gear audio and some of the leftover bugs is good too.

A shame that these were things needing to be fixed, but what's done is done. At least they haven't left it as is, I thought the Plus release would be the end of it really.

(Please just one more Colours Ultimate patch)

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Red Dead Redemption Running At 60FPS On Switch

JeongersGaming

@SpaceboyScreams Fair points. I remember this was the same on PS Vita, I dabbled in testing out games with increased clocks, higher resolution patches, etc. As you said, the Switch's SoC is underclocked by Nintendo for precautions, even if they're a bit excessive, so they're not likely to allow third party developers to mess around with the clock speeds to achieve higher performance. Even their first party teams only increase them in games like BotW in pretty short bursts to speed up loading. So we were never likely to see a smooth 60fps Red Dead on the Switch officially.

Even if they had a lower resolution "performance mode", it wouldn't necessarily guarantee a consistent 60 if it was 720p docked. But this game even sticks to 30 on a PS5 so there's definitely some sort of parity guideline that 2K seems to want to stick to, likely in relation to the Xbox B/C version, for which that team could never implement an FPS boost patch for it, among many other requested games. It's interesting to think where we'd be if we did get that patch, or if the game was never backwards compatible to begin with - would we be looking at a different product right now? Rockstar had no problem letting people run GTA V at 60fps on current gen consoles.

I'm delving into a tangent now, so I'll cut it off here.

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Red Dead Redemption Running At 60FPS On Switch

Overclocking is the key factor here. Nintendo wouldn't want to let developers overclock the hardware to allow games to run better for various reasons - MVG even cautions you to overclock the Switch at your own risk - so if it couldn't achieve 60 without that, it's not the fairest comparison to anyone who wants to throw around the "lazy devs" argument. We see in the video that without the OC the game runs at about 40ish fps on average with the cap removed - you do not want to play games like this.

On the other hand, this is a great option for anybody who wants to play a "PC version" of the game. Running Red Dead on one of the Switch's emulators with the framerate cap removed is probably less of a hassle compared to say, RPCS3, based on my personal experience with those emulators.

Re: Hands On: Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Could Be So Much More, But Isn't

JeongersGaming

Aside from Switch apparently running at 30fps, I'm not understanding the issue here. People were asking for modern ports of the HD Collection for ages, and that's what's being given here (with some bonuses like MGS1, the NES games, digital screenplays with artwork and soundtracks). Not understanding the negativity in the YT comments particularly, calling it Konami "bare minimum laziness". I would say that bonus content disproves that, and if rumours of MGS4 being brought over in a future collection is true, that especially proves this isn't lazy - putting Guns of the Patriots on new platforms is a huge effort.

If you want to play MGS with a more modern coat of paint, that's what MGS Delta appears to be for, I have no doubt they won't remake the others once they've released Snake Eater.

Re: Feature: TikTok, Smash Bros., And Shaking Up 'Samba De Amigo' With Series Creator Shun Nakamura

JeongersGaming

@SlasherZ "TikTok bad" "Fortnite bad", etc. thing that is popular with kids = bad and cringe

The "TikTok influence" as described is extremely tangential (younger audiences like to make silly dance videos with popular music on there, this game lets you have a silly dance to some popular songs), but just for mentioning the app, grown adults will cry about it and declare they "aren't interested anymore".

@Furealz exactly this.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Pikmin 1+2 On Switch

@RobynAlecksys They don't have a bias.
When the Xbox 360 was running games better than PS3, they pointed that out - and were called Xbox biased by Playstation fans.

When the PS4 was running games better than Xbox One, they pointed that out - and were called Playstation biased by Xbox fans.

Now, the Series X is more powerful than PS5 and thus runs most games better than it, which they of course cover, but sometimes we've actually seen better performance on PS5 versions, and they have shown these examples too.

Re: UK Charts: FIFA 23 Takes First Place Ahead Of Switch FC 24 Debut

JeongersGaming

@SBandy1 yeah it's been well overdue that the Switch gets an actual new game and not another Legacy Edition. Those were usually reserved for older consoles where the sales weren't as high, very weird that they went for that on Switch as soon as they released the first FIFA.

@samuelvictor The next FIFA game is probably a few years away, it would take time for them to find a new licensee, then they'd have to start development from scratch. Next year at the earliest I'd assume. Unless FIFA goes with Konami and we get eFIFA this year? Because nobody else is making soccer games right now. That would be funny if PES becomes FIFA.

Re: Sonic Fans Are Already Really Mad About Sonic Origins Plus

JeongersGaming

I'm of the opinion that this collection is massively overhated by the fandom. Of course, there are a few issues I would like to be fixed, but this is still the best official way to play these games, and most people wouldn't notice or care about the nitpicks that make the fans hate Origins.

Yeah, there are better ways to play the classics through fan made projects, but that's not really fair. Of course a fan made passion project where it can be continually developed over time, with the only limit being the developers personal interest, is going to outperform a commercial project with a specific budget (usually not high for rereleases) and a deadline (again not that high for rereleases).

Great example is the remaster of Resident Evil 4, where it's mostly the same as the Wii version with a few slightly nicer textures, versus the HD Project mod that completely overhauls the visuals - it looks gorgeous. It also took the creator 10 years to complete.
