Heard some surprisingly decent things about these games but have yet to actually try one myself.
@Maubari Some people on this site seem to be trapped in the 90s they're still dogging on Sonic as Nintendo fans even when it's a complete non-sequiter from the subject matter. Bit weird. Like yeah imagine just randomly dragging Banjo-Kazooie in the comments of an article on a Spyro game or something lmao. I have to question the age of these people.
@RareFan completely ridiculous to say that all Sonic fans are furries. Braindead comment that you can flip on any property you don't like.
"People only like Mario games because they wanna sleep with him"
@LikelySatan @Martijn87 That is what they're doing. The director said Frontiers is their foundation for the next 10 years at least, and it's been recently reported that a direct sequel is coming. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about it next year, Sega have finally started giving Sonic Team a bigger budget after Frontiers came out and they've apparently hiring a lot of new staff. The other big problem with the series has often been a smaller team with a tight budget being rushed to hit a deadline.
@nuff64 That's a bad idea. 40fps works great on 120hz screens. The Switch does not support 120hz, it's strictly a 60hz machine. 40fps at 60hz = stutter.
@CaleBoi25 Nope, pretty much not. It's a double pack of sorts, you get a port/remaster of Sonic Generations and this new story with Shadow which is it's own thing.
@Not_Soos I do think Heroes has more to offer from a remake than Adventure 1 and 2. They reuse a LOT of level design, a remake could give the different teams their own levels.
SA1 and 2 on the other hand would be fine with a more Crash/Spyro approach, small quality of life tweaks but overall the same content from the originals, just new graphics.
Here's the thing, since this always comes up whenever the topic is covered on this site - emulation is completely legal, this has been made clear in prior court cases. Can you use emulation to play pirated games? Yes, of course, but the emulation software itself breaks no laws by itself, this is why Nintendo has largely ignored lawsuits towards emulators despite all of their protests about them and has instead gone after people who hosted websites that allowed you to download ROMs, or the likes of Team Xecuter.
The issue with Yuzu is how it was monetised. If you wanted to run the latest version of the emulator you had to pay the devs via Patreon, and they were making A LOT of money (as much as $30K a month at peak), especially after Tears of the Kingdom leaked before release.
Unless other emulators attempt this same monetisation, I don't believe we'll see other attempts of litigation towards hobbyist emulation as a concept (is it even hobbyist when you're making 5 figures a month?).
Smart thing to do with eShop sales is to prioritise any Nintendo published games you don't own. They get discounted so infrequently and it's always the same 30-33% off (except for a few Square Enix games they handled, I got DQ11 for half price).
With that said, I don't yet have any of the ones listed in the highlights except for Splatoon 3. Might be time for me to get Tropical Freeze.
@Heartless666 Probably a good thing at least in the case of the Top Gun DLC. That stuff will have an expiry date. As a separate thing, when licensing expires they only have to delist the DLC and not the entire game.
@KingMike @Arminillo there's layers to localisation, yeah some things won't directly translate, so you find a close alternative. The problem people are having with game and anime localisations are that the people working on them will just invent things of their own into the script.
See the character of Esty Erhard in the Atelier series, the localisation team decided to change her name to Esty Dee. Get it? Cause it sounds like STD? Sexually transmitted disease? That's funny right? Are you laughing yet? Please laugh.
@Astral-Grain What games are like Crazy Taxi? I can only think of that Simpsons game and Taxi Chaos on Switch, which seemed a bit crap. I'd be down to check out any indies inspired by it.
@JokerCK Every video is technically made for attention and clicks, but regardless it isn't a "clickbait" video. They're spending approximately 40 minutes responding to a number of questions from their subscribers and giving their input, the Switch 2 question is one of several and isn't mentioned in the title/thumbnail etc. To know they mention the prospect beforehand would only happen by, for example, reading an article like this which focuses on that one specific part. They're not the ones baiting in this case.
@sanderev The DF crew aren't fanboys of any platform, except maybe the PC when it comes to Alex, but he'll even give fair analysis of console titles. To suggest such is more telling of yourself. They get accused of being PS fanboys and Xbox fanboys simultaneously as the wind blows.
@Ralizah I'm not really sure why Sega decided on that October release date, when they even admit here that November is the best selling month for the series. A very Sega decision.
@Ultimapunch They likely would have performed about the same at best, given Mania took almost a year to sell 1 million (albeit digital only at first). Superstars sounds like it's probably already at least crossed that mark if they think it can be turned around to match the sales of Frontiers, which did 2.5 million in a similar time frame.
Third party is probably Disney. Their legal team probably sh*t themselves over paying money to modders and the potential precedent for fan content going forward.
Publicly available patents shouldn't be considered for next gen console speculation. We wouldn't be able to see anything that Nintendo is actively planning to use in a product, because they keep those patents secret until officially revealed.
@AndroidiOS No reason for them to be mad about it I guess, like the last time when they laughed in the faces of Microsoft executives. They probably read that email and thought "aww, that's cute of them..."
Props to Arzest for shipping the only Sonic game on Switch to run at 60fps (obviously not counting sprite based games because that's too easy). Remember their last outing on this console was Balan Wonderworld.
@Pupuplatter PS1 BS? There's valid reasons to be unhappy about MGS2 and 3 being 30fps, but 1 cannot run above 30 regardless of hardware. There's no emulation patch, no mod for the PC version.
It also runs completely fine at it's intended framerate.
@LikelySatan There's a logical reason for them to trick people with footage of a superior looking version of a game. What's the benefit for them to show footage of the originals if they're using the remasters, which are technically superior (although some people prefer the older art direction)?
@Lizuka The PS4 versions were a bad remastering job, the footage of the Switch versions seem to be of the original releases, so they should run fine, and honestly, look better.
"As highlighted on social media, every FIFA game from 14 to 23 can no longer be purchased."
Besides the obvious fact that them losing the FIFA license means they can no longer legally sell games using the FIFA branding, didn't they already do this for older FIFA games shortly after the latest release came out?
I don't think you could buy any FIFA game before '23 on digital storefronts before this. Maaaaybe '22.
The bloom in HD is a little too 2005, back when developers would coat everything in bloom to make their games look more "HD"
Maybe if they tone it down a bit for a Switch version it would look far better, but the style is a complete change from the original intent. Considering how TP and SS had much more faithful remasters, I would like to see that applied to a new port.
@Keman This doesn't contradict any serious previous leaks. What has been said is the next hardware will have tech such as DLSS to leapfrog to resolutions such as 4K. You don't need actual PS5 level specs to get comparable resolutions and such.
It's telling that most people needed this "analysis" to even notice It's a 30fps game. It was obvious to me watching it, as well as the fact that Colour Splash and Origami had the same target.
To say that because the GameCube version ran at 60, that the Switch version should also run at 60 is missing the point a bit. We are talking about a remake, the engine is new, the assets are completely rebuilt, etc. Because it's a remake, the timing based attacks will most likely be adjusted to fit the new target anyway.
Also it's crazy that some people play primarily on a Switch but will decide not to play certain games because the resolution isn't high enough for them.
@GameOtaku I don't see this as being any kind of dead end is what I mean. It's an audience gauger I believe, and it's doing well so far - it's probably already the most played F-Zero game. People tend not to think about the bigger picture. You remember the announcement of Federation Force? All of the despair from fans about how they brought back Metroid after a period of absence to "desecrate" it? Yet as we now know, they had been developing Samus Returns at that same time for release the very next year, and were in the early stages of planning Prime 4 - as shown in FF's ending, followed by the subsequent announcement.
@theModestMouse Try not to be so damn miserable and rude to others all the time and maybe your world won't fall apart.
@theModestMouse Yeah, I for one am shocked that Nintendo did not announce new hardware for next year right before the holiday season and collapse their sales momentum.
@samuelvictor Right, and developers will need some time to get titles ready, if they've just started presenting demos to third parties, it would be too early for a public reveal.
