As someone who's never played these (although watched a friend beat 1) and therefore never spent the money back in the day, I'll have no problem picking these up once I find a decent sale.
Continuing Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster. The 'active' battle selection makes certain bosses/ fights more challenging, which i appreciate since I've beaten the game countless times throughout the years. Have a great weekend everyone and (for the FF fans) say it with me - Lali-ho!
This does look fantastic, sadly my backlog will prevent me from playing for quite a while.
@LastFootnote I recently finished Final Fantasy 3 Pixel remaster and the underwater region was such a neat idea but absolutely barren minus a couple of caves, plus you dont move as fast as the airship. Im going to guess it had something to do with storage limitations (maybe?) during NES days but yeah, that and im sure other games' underwater parts can be a drag. PS at least the underwater song in FF3 is great: https://youtu.be/otDL3tUsI4w?si=VhhD1eiRA11GGW8T
To nitpick a nitpick - I'm playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel remasters and I think a con for those is the updated soundtrack. Thank God I can change back into the original ost but I cant see that being a negative for me here. Throwing a 40-piece orchestra to interpret every song with no changes in mood doesn't really do it for me. Not saying it cant be done right (like FF12) and maybe this OST does actually need a polish, but just my opinion on those things. Great review, thanks
Wrapping up Castlevania Aria of Sorrow on Switch and randomly started Scooby Doo Classic Creep Capers on the Gameboy color. Jinkies, like have a good weekend everyone!
I recently tried to begin a playthrough on Knight but man its a brutal game for me. I've gotten pretty far in that mode before (ane beat it on the one below, Squire?) but my patience may have been more intact then. If i feel up to it ill go for it
Never played these despite watching a friend play the first a bunch back in college. Will probably pick up over the holidays, I know how revered they are
I have beat SMB a bunch. Happy the writer can finally cross it off the list soon, its a wonderful game. I actually received a free copy of Wonder (from a family member getting rid of stuff) so I'll light that up for the anniversary. Truly know very little about it and I'm hoping it'll be a special playthrough
@horizonisland to be fair in the article they put quotes around "bricked", specifically 'effectively...for second hand buyers.' Which means if some idiot like me buys a modded switch 2, second hand, and I cant access shop, account etc then its pretty worthless to me as a Nintendo player.
In between games after beating Final Fantasy 3 last week (what an insane final segment / boss rush!) So likely just some street fighter collection and splatoon until I pick my next rpg. Have a great one everyone!
@N8tiveT3ch cant tell if youre serious but ive been watching a full playthrough the past two days, nothing really blew me away but perhaps there's something nice in the subtleties im not appreciating as a non-player
@JohnnyMind I've only played Ys Origin, one time, and it was a really fun intro to the series with replay value too. I have a physical of Felghana, which looks similar in graphics to Origin and more my style, but yet to play it. Im not sure how I feel about the graphics for this one but discovering Ys as a series has been a delight so far, hope you one day enjoy as much
Started Final Fantasy 3 Pixel Remaster on Switch, pretty good so far.
Separately, while cleaning out stuff in my childhood home, I found a Gamecube with Metroid Prime, Starfox, F Zero GX, Wind Waker and Beyond Good and Evil. Curious part is my long-gone GC was purple (this one's gray) and I have never owned/played these games (pretty sure they belonged to a friend who says they don't remember), so it was an amazing find to say the least. Have a great weekend everyone!
@The_Nintend_Pedant it really doesn't come off as a collaborative project and is more of an ad, like 'slap your logo on this boot' and throw on different laces. Shirts are kinda neat at least.
Just entered Dracula's castle in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia so will hopefully polish that off over the weekend. Fantastic game either way. Have a good one folks!
@Tyranexx ahh that's awesome to hear. I feel the same, definitely up there for me in the genre. Funnily enough I've owned the first Steamworld Dig for a while but never jumped in - I think the second one cast that long of a shadow I couldn't do it. I think enough time has passed where I should try, especially after hearing (more) that its good. Have a good one!
@Tyranexx if you havent already played/heard i cant recommend Steamworld Dig 2 enough, was one of the first games I got for Switch and absolutely loved it
Taking a break from Xenoblade CX so I started Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia from the Dominus collection. Super fun so far and doesn't hold back (imo) from the get-go, pretty nice challenge and great music. Have a great weekend everyone!
Out on vacation tomorrow so probably just Splatfest and XCX DE. For XCX, I'll probably take a break from it after I'm back since i made such a big dent in it already but I'm still loving it.
What's funny is the first couple paragraphs are the reasons I couldn't get into Odyssey. I think the developers made the game they meant to and it was really well done, plus I know ppl really love it, but it felt bloated and didnt really grab me. That many moons with little direction is just not intriguing to me as a Mario game.
DK looks a lot more fun somehow, even knowing the similarities. Will probably watch parts of playthrus to see if its something id dig but overall happy the franchise is getting the spotlight, im sure ppl will love it
@Ogbert author probably crapped this article out before breakfast, there's a good bit more detail in JP to separate them. There's a whole centerpiece with more zombies to start with, the mirror effect is way more complex because of it. Ah whatever
@Anti-Matter while I'm more lenient and not as passionate as your thoughts against this, you do bring up a good point of how a Yakuza character could be included in a game that looks to be rated E for Everyone in my region. Obviously free advertising for other Sega IP and a treat for those fans. I wasn't too sheltered from stuff as a youngster (i have older siblings) but i could see it being odd if a young kid asks their parents "what's Yakuza mean?" after playing an innocent racing game. It is always good to question the integrity of corporations, why they do things, etc. so I'm with you there even though i don't agree with this particular argument.
One of my best friends and I still talk in the 'moo' language which is rooted from us playing the South Park game on (I believe) the N64. I remember a 'cow gun' in it as well that was silly. Whole game was perfect comedic fodder for idiot 10/11 year olds like ourselves
Xenoblade CX DE ‐ I'm truly hooked by this point. I think I'm only on chapter 5 (maybe 6?) but have been completing plenty of other affinity+normal missions as I explore. Have a great weekend everyone.
@Purgatorium people have their own tastes but I agree with you. Growing up with FF4, I've always thought it has a perfect pace and length. The added content from gba was thoughtful at most but didn't really do much for me, truly didnt mind it being removed from Pixel Remasters. Haven't played this one so have no opinion either way
What can I say? Well done. I remember the SNES days with the Players Choice stickers on the box indicating sales of 1 million+ as a big feat. Must seem humorous now considering how many games blow that out the water, including MKW nearing it in first week in Japan alone
@Daniel36 I did almost the same for Tactics Ogre, think it was week or two after. Was well worth it in the end (had never played and I loved it) but yeah, smart move for this one
@Duncanballs I think if you can read a comment at all then that person has not blocked you. I noticed it when ppl replied to other ppls comments that I couldn't see because they blocked me. Fortunately they eventually unblocked me, I enjoy their perspectives.
Would be nice if they re-release the 3D All Stars. They've sold a bazillion consoles since then and some of us (regrettably) didn't scoop it at the time. Wishful thinking...
Started Xenoblade Chronicles X this week. Still establishing myself in NLA so still early but I'm already really enjoying it and figure this will be a slow-burn, summer title for me given the amount of content. Have a great weekend, everyone
For me not much will change, whenever I get Switch 2. Based on a combo of "limited" gaming time and interests, I've always tried to purchase games I'm (mostly) sure I'd actually play through, whether they're $5 or $50. I'm sure I've passed up on some awesome titles due to my limited scope but at the same time I haven't felt a major financial or mental hit and have enjoyed plenty of old+new titles.
