Re: Talking Point: Our 2026 Nintendo And Switch 2 Predictions

CammyUnofficial

Never understood the expectations for a new game/product coming out specifically for an anniversary. Like its a nice gesture and cherry on top, whether it's rereleases, sneakers, whatever, but I feel like some people have high expectations and feel let down or consider it a missed opportunity when those arent met

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th December)

CammyUnofficial

Trying to wrap up Xenoblade Chronicles X main chapters before the new year although I tend to get distracted by all the side quests. But in a good spot at chapter 10 so we shall see.

Also finished Castlevania Portrait of Ruin. It had some really great parts (especially the final fight) but overall it just further cemented that when it comes to Metroidvanias, I side more with the Metroid titles. Portrait felt a bit padded and dragged on for no reason other than "hey here's more content", which some may appreciate but it overstayed its welcome + took out some fun factor for me. Oh well, still happy I played it.

Have a great weekend and wishing warm holidays to all.

Re: Review: Terminator 2D: NO FATE (Switch) - A Simplistic Yet Fascinating 16-Bit Love Letter

@Tom-Massey thank you, I appreciate the thoughtful response. I think i hung on to the part of the review where you mentioned it plays like Contra, like how the original mostly plays as run n gun but has a few levels from different perspectives and switches up the gameplay to a considerable degree (overhead, the weird 3D shooting perspective, and traditional run n gun). In that sense, I thought it odd to want more out of a game, although I hate arguing about tastes. But understanding the levels are incredibly short and not too involved and there's not a whole lot of depth to the overall gameplay, then yeah I agree with your sentiment that something more non-linear or complex could make up for other shortcomings. Thanks again

If the levels are super duper short even on a first playthrough, then I could see that as a fair criticism (especially if its an expensive game). I typically don't find linear and simplistic as a minus, I mean if you have a good formula and its fun then that's all I need. Probably a good reason why I still boot up old Castlevania+Contra titles on the reg. Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 1+2 nailed that formula too and expanded it in its own way. So idk, the review doesn't completely sell me that T2 is lacking in something it really needs. And im not saying give it a higher score, but linearity and simplicity is a strange criticism to me

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Decayed Master Sword "Life-Size" Statue Coming Soon, Here's A Silhouette Teaser

@JohnnyMind I agree and luckily it sounds like this company fulfills these orders on a 'made upon order' basis. If anything, I think it is important that we take into consideration now what actually will happen to our stuff after we pass (as morbid as that may sound), so that we can make more informed purchases or take the time now to make sure these items find a proper home one day, even if that means downsizing at some point. Ideally, we would want the next of kin to (be able to) do the right thing with our stuff, which again may not be feasible based on volume or convenience or care, so even having a conversation like this could be beneficial. But being a magnet to tons of 'impractical' items like this (its not like a microwave or something you 'use' ) and simply assuming it goes to a good home probably isn't enough. Ive been witness to a few houses being cleaned and even a few staples that made the place a 'home', whether its pictures on the walls, clocks, furniture, whatever dont find homes, which is unfortunate

Edit: in case its not clear I do think that automatically labeling these or any collectibles as future waste is a bit harsh, since one could take a further step back and say just about anything we own could be considered that, including our precious video games 😄

@JohnnyMind I think an example would be that after a person passes away there's a (good?) chance it will find its way to the dumpster. Individuals have a lot of possessions, so unless someone going through the 'leftovers' of a house/apartment wants it, cares/knows what this is to pass it on or even has the time to go piece by piece, they will save themselves the trouble by conveniently tossing it in the dump. Its not my argument but this example can/ does happen

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

@Yoshi3 im always curious how kids (let's say 12 and under?) feel about these big/open world games. I was born in late 80s and the big 3 for snes (Zelda LTTP, Mario World and Super Metroid, among other rpgs) were a perfect-size treat for me growing up. I absolutely couldnt 100% Odyssey cause felt it bloated and new Zeldas aren't my thing. Maybe I'm growing old and/or just have different tastes than whats working, but idk how many times I would actually play through BotW if I was just a wee one, compared to the countless times i beat the old ones. Not trying to knock anything, just a thought

Re: Nintendo Debuts Two Metroid Prime 4 Ads As Eight-Year Wait Nears Its End

CammyUnofficial

Im not big into the Prime games although I love the other Metroid titles. With that, I really hope this side-kick gets the boot early in the game for (most) fans' sake. I began watching the trailer thinking "he cant be that bad, can he?" and lo and behold, he was. Odd choice to include and im petty enough that I wouldn't buy a game with something/someone that grating throughout. Fingers crossed for ya'all

Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Stellar Battles, But A Step Down From Arceus

CammyUnofficial

As a Pokémon outsider I hate ragging on stuff i wouldn't play to begin with. But its crazy to me how terrible these games look given how much money they rake in as a AAA title. Esthetically nothing looks magical, charming, captivating and so on, even given the subject matter. If theyre achieving the esthetic they strive for then good for them, and I know there's more to a good game than graphics. But 'lifeless,' as the reviewer says, seems spot on

Re: Dragon Quest I & II HD Remake's Brand New Underwater Region Is Beautiful

CammyUnofficial

This does look fantastic, sadly my backlog will prevent me from playing for quite a while.

@LastFootnote I recently finished Final Fantasy 3 Pixel remaster and the underwater region was such a neat idea but absolutely barren minus a couple of caves, plus you dont move as fast as the airship. Im going to guess it had something to do with storage limitations (maybe?) during NES days but yeah, that and im sure other games' underwater parts can be a drag. PS at least the underwater song in FF3 is great:

Re: Review: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - An Excellent Port Of A Timeless Classic

CammyUnofficial

To nitpick a nitpick - I'm playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel remasters and I think a con for those is the updated soundtrack. Thank God I can change back into the original ost but I cant see that being a negative for me here. Throwing a 40-piece orchestra to interpret every song with no changes in mood doesn't really do it for me. Not saying it cant be done right (like FF12) and maybe this OST does actually need a polish, but just my opinion on those things. Great review, thanks
