Thanks for the review. Since the time this was announced I've accumulated a decent backlog (for my standards) so unfortunately not picking this up soon, but glad for everyone else and that it's a winner. Who knows, maybe by years end if I can, never played them despite older sibling having ps1 copies
I'd definitely buy a few that I didn't grow up on. I will say one benefit of the 'rental' space is that I did try and enjoy a few titles i likely would not have purchased outright n never played otherwise.
Plucking along at Ys Origin when I can, still love it. Been very busy past couple weeks so looking fwd to some proper gaming tomorrow. My copy of Oath of Felghana arrived yesterday as well, even more goodies on the horizon. Have a good one everyone
@Rainbowfire that's exactly it. In any other media it'd be laughed off. Like there's room for mafia movies but imagine someone puts out The Godmother with Donna Corleone and Bluca Brattzi, it's like come on give it a little more thought
Hypothetically - if a similar KS was made for a Zelda movie in a more ultra-violent (but tasteful) way, like game of thrones or something, would it still be a problem for people if N took action? I mean like nudity and very violent, etc, in the world of Zelda but not necessarily how Nintendo has presented their games.
The reason I ask is because I believe if Ninty says yes to one of these projects (kid-friendly or not) maybe it just opens up further headaches for N and others who try it down the line and are rejected. It's not like Nintendo is partnering with these folks so in an effort to avoid any type of dialogue, they just shut anything down. Just thoughts, idk this stuff in detail
I'm continuing Ys Origin. As a first time Ys-player I have to say it is freaking awesome. Challenging boss fights, perfect amount of difficulty (hard mode), the overall aesthetic, etc - simply a winner. It's exciting jumping into a new series that really clicks, my copy of Memoire is already in the mail. Have a great weekend folks
@Anti-Matter kinda curious - are you at all interested in the Switch 2, especially if they have greater support for 3rd party titles? Or will you likely just stick with ps5? Or too early to tell, like some of us?
@dew12333 honest question why would including an LGBT character be deemed political? Like, if you're talking about laws and policies that feels political. But why does including a character in a game make it political? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your comment, perhaps you were referring to the awards show only
@JohnnyMind i agree that N should be more collaborative. But for one-offs like these perhaps there is a risk that if you let one slide (even if tasteful) then that opens the door for tons more (that could be unsavory / inappropriate). I don't have hard thoughts and not arguing, kinda thinking out loud
Always heard about this one. I don't feel I'm a picky person but I haven't adjusted to playing GB(A) games on the Switch. Maybe it's a lack of proper D-pad or feeling more 'at home' on a GB console, but I'm just not big on GB games on Switch
@Zuljaras ah I see, I was thinking incorrectly. I was thinking how you needed like a Xbox gamepass or something to play with friends, which you don't need to play solo (and I eventually found out ). Unlike what you're saying which yeah is really annoying.
Hoping it does come to S2 with offline, I don't get much use of the XS and would love to have it on a Nintendo system
@Zuljaras correct me if I'm wrong but you can play D4 offline on XS now? I thought I needed online but realized it's fine without. Maybe my definition isn't the same but I thought it possible.
Waiting on some games in the mail so started a new playthrough of Tactics Ogre in the meantime. Also made it deep into Golfinite, there's a pretty big difficulty spike by the 4th tourney so I'm curious if I'll throw in the towel or barrel through it. Have a great weekend everyone!
@Tyranexx would you see any issue on getting this having never played an Ys game? I saw a brief gameplay video and really looked my style, curious if lack of context would matter
@Princess_Lilly part of me wants the same too, though perhaps not for the same reason. My friend and I just seemed to be paired with lots of novices and/or scrubs and I'm no professional by any means. Had a blast anyway
Edit* i dont mean to sound mean about scrubs, but just baffling and non-strategic gameplay from teammates is all
@onlyonemello exactly, obviously everyone on here has played it. But 15 years is enough time for some people to have kids of their own who haven't touched a 3ds or wii. Nintendo is definitely charging 60 for that, especially since DK is kinda "in" with the theme park and Mario movie stuff
@GrailUK that's my thing - even if thousands of ppl are talking about it, there are millions of switch users who don't follow or doesn't hold too strong an interest, everyone's probably still playing with their holiday presents without a care
@OldGamer999 i typically only play battle mode and I'm hoping for a more robust level selection in the next entry. Even the new DLCs didn't add any battle levels (to my understanding).
@Rainz i loved outer worlds as well, so funny and engaging. I first played on Switch and thought it was a fantastic port although loadscreens weren't super quick. Got it on sale with dlc on XS, looking forward to next playthru after having grasp on weapons, upgrades etc.
Did finish Final Fantasy 1 pixel remaster this week, fantastic athough I may have overleveled? Was quite the breeze outside of the final boss. Probably playing a little this and a little that before starting the next one. Have a great weekend folks
@NeonPizza i don't disagree but I just think they're shooting for a way different demographic these days. I'm not sure how many commercials from back then were geared towards parents of kids and not just the kids/teens themselves. They could totally charm it up here, I agree, but they're trying to sell consoles to adults (who may have loved those 90s commercials or maybe have a stigma against games) just as much as to kids in some of these. I wouldn't expect a stormtrooper to bust thru the door is all, theyre totally laying into that "family console" angle. But yeah I agree, pretty forgettable
At the end of the 3rd mansion in Luigis Mansion 2. I must say my expectations were low for this game, I figure LM3 would have simply done everything better and I'd be left wanting more. Not the case for me at all and I love the switch up with it being level-based, bigger ghost selection and just the overall atmosphere. Just as good as LM3 and hopefully continue to enjoy
Got it for my 6th birthday a week after release. Still remember my older brother trying to pull a fast one on the car ride back and saying "hey if you let me play for an hour first you can have the SNES for as long as you want after." My response? I cried and Mom set the record straight. Lovely game and great memories playing it
Looks pretty good actually. To continue with the cartoon network references I'd say it also has some Courage the Cowardly Dog vibes. Hoping for an nl (mini) review

Re: Opinion: Scrapping Gold Points Makes Sense For Nintendo, But It's A Bitter Pill For Loyal Fans
@EVIL-C i didn't take saying 'not surprising' as NL defending the practice. In fact they say a bunch of other times how it's disappointing for folks

Re: Level-5's Long-Awaited Fantasy Life Sequel Seems To No Longer Be A Switch Exclusive
@Anti-Matter thanks for the answer. That's awesome you have an ACNH for ps5, i have seen how much you play and like AC

My copy of Ys Origin should be delivered today, very excited to jump into my first Ys title
Re: Japanese Charts: Fans Go Bananas For Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Seems like more than Luigis mansion 2 and Mario vs dk, slightly less than TTYD and a third of what SMRPG put up their first weeks.

@EarthboundBenjy @Tyranexx thanks for the input, ordered the physical last night
Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Switch) - Aping A Retro Classic
Wonder why Mario vs DK was retailed at $50 (among others, I believe?) but this one gets the full 60. Probably a pass for me here, sale or not
Re: UK Charts: Ys Memoire Narrowly Makes The Top 40 In Another Quiet Week
@TechaNinja thank you for the response, great to know. Looking forward to it moreso now

Super Metroid at #10 is respectable given the reviewers. And I personally enjoy Mario Kart 64 over Mk8. But yeah who cares about RS video game lists
