Re: Talking Point: Is Knowing A Game's Ending Really That Bad?

CammyUnofficial

@HeftyLaces yep that's a "you" problem but many others like myself face it too. For me it's a matter of scaling back expectations, realizing with my personality that I won't play or complete every game of interest unless I sacrifice whatever you wanna call it - enjoyment, immersion, etc. - due to my waning interest or 'stressed' conditions. A schedule has helped (like a game per month) and has led to my interests in other hobbies blossoming. Sorry for the tldr.

@DennisReynolds home console ports yeah, they definitely milked it, but it was a little more complicated in early 90s with arcades. Some of Capcom saw the first sf2 as complete, ready to focus on console ports/new games since sf2 was at the end of the traditional life cycle. Nin nin and Goddard pushed for more tweaks and iterations because of the arcade/tourney scene, they didn't think the game was truly complete and thus sold a crap ton more of refined iterations. Def uncommon but I think they get a slide with the arcade context and that those games rule

Re: Review: Wild Card Football - An Ambitious Take On Gridiron Lacking A Full Deck

@HeadPirate sure, I'm not saying anything is okay or not okay. If someone says they won't buy a game because of XYZ then so be it. Kotick wasn't going to be a good example, I acknowledge that and thank you for the nuanced civil response. I don't mean to stir anything up on this topic either, best keep my mouth shut sometimes. I actually agree with you too, I just didn't think the comments necessitated removal or thread lock I guess

@HeadPirate I'm sure some ppl went out of their way to hate on Kap, but at the same time are voicing an opinion on why they won't pick up this package. If a Blizzard review is overhauled by anti-Kotick statements saying they'd never touch one of their games as long as he's involved, sounds similar to me and par for the course? Maybe I'm wrong or missing it. Sorry about your friend though

Re: Random: Making "Miyamoto Happy" Isn't The Goal Of Development, According To Pikmin 4's Creators

@EriXz i hear ya, it's always good to remember ppl have a plethora of emotions that can be expressed, its easy to just dismiss someone as a d*** after an encounter or something but may not be the case overall, or at least best to not let cynicism take over

I worked at an immigration law firm, my boss was a partner. Sweetest most laid back guy in about every setting, but there was the occasional story of him getting mad, cussing, etc. That's not "good" but ppl (i.e. smaller fish, myself included) knew him beyond that and were truly dedicated / happy to work for him for years

Re: Soapbox: Can You Really 'Spoil' A Mario Game?

CammyUnofficial

@BenAV same - if I catch a glimpse of like a certain character or the fact there's some alternate world or airship later in a game, then that can slightly spoil it for me. The anticipation I'd have waiting on them/it to appear takes away part of the sense of discovery. I hate it more in movies/sequels, but have seen it happen with games.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thanks Charles Martinet For Being The Voice Of Mario In Heartfelt Message

@delt75 my example has been Luigis mansion 3, which has little lines of dialogue that are unique to the game (answering telephones, calling for help, any cut scenes). I feel recycling could only go so far and might hinder future games in a sense. I'm sure Nintendo intends to pump out Mario games for another 40 years, so it's reasonable they'd move on (at some point). Edit - also commercials, promos, theme park stuff etc, might need a refresh

Either way, very touching send-off, wish CM the best

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Had No Deadline During Its Prototype Phase

CammyUnofficial

@Anti-Matter I think the point is you seem to have your mind made up about not buying this and find an excuse to announce that on every article. The question isn't 'are you excited for Wonder?' like you said. It's "Do you think Nintendo's creativity will be on full display in this upcoming release?" which is a subtly different question in general and more different in the context of this article being about development deadlines, the creative process etc. No one thinks you're a villain and anyone should feel free to comment on games they don't want or even hate. But you are really just repeating yourself and being off-topic at this point
