Re: Random: Clair Obscur Director Celebrates Amazing Switch RPG Which Launched On Same Day

AJWolfTill

Camaraderie between these teams is so great to see!
The game is great, please do give it a go folks!

@Kraven
See where you are coming from about the characters. A lot of them feel like very irritating people. I nly really liked a couple of them off the bat. I do think the game does a good job of making you feel some agency over their growth though. I don't know if you will have reached any Persuasion missions yet?

Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Now Boasts 300 Playable Titles

AJWolfTill

Yeah, we've come a long way with this service. Its been great having a library of multiplayer N64 games to crack out and it's nice finally being able to play games from the GBA which I missed completely growing up.
Can't wait to play GameCube games on NS2!

@Smithicus Largely agree. I do think Dk94 is still worth a go (push through the super early stages) and puzzle games seem to hold up fine for me.

@Znake @LastFootnote
If this is the Odyssey team, (which it sure looks like it) then I imagine they will be constantly introducing and dropping new mechanics so things don't get stale.
I'm hoping and expecting there is a lot of scope we haven't seen yet because yes the smash up a floating island doesn't look like it will be fun for long. The Treehouse Stream briefly showed some challenge areas (which did have platforming to be fair), and we know there are some 2d segments in there somewhere.
I'd assume we have basically just seen content from when the training wheels are still on.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Weighs In On 'Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Controversy (Sort Of)

AJWolfTill

I feel like the Iwata / Reggie leadership would not have charged for this.

My immediate takeaway (along with everyone I watched the direct with ) was lukewarm to Welcome Tour and then baffled by it not being a pack in. Not a great PR move but I'm far from annoyed about it as right now I don't feel I'm loosing out on anything.

I have no intention currently of getting it but I will at least read NLs review for it to set the record straight on its value.

Additionally, I feel like the inclusion of the Zelda upgrade packs and GameCube games as part of theexisting NSO subscription are a way bigger win than the loss we get from this decision.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Will Be A Cross-Gen Title For Switch 2

AJWolfTill

Looks incredible! Hoping we get a release date from the Treehouse streams 🤞

@Polvasti
They are great games and in most cases I'd be doing what you said. I really don't think you have anything to worry about though.
The connective tissue between the Prime games is slim and I seriously doubt this will carry anything narrative over.

Re: Introducing PLAYi - A Whole New Way To Not Play

Perfect for maxing out those battle passes!
I hope it's smart enough to buy up all those micro transactions so you can truly complete games with live service components.

(In all seriousness, the repeating home screen presses were a great touch)

Re: Feature: "If The Game Does Not Sell Well, We May Be Done" - It's Do Or Die For Too Kyo Games & 'The Hundred Line'

AJWolfTill

Uchikoshi is likely my favourite gaming auteurs but I'm less hot on Kodaka.
I also love tactical games so this will probably sit well with me but overall I kind of just feel dread for how tied up Uchikoshi's career seems to be in the success of this niche game.
I actually went on the eshop yesterday to look for this game but it doesn't seem to have a listing yet. Fingers crossed the demo comes to Switch as well to build a buzz.

Re: Rumour: A Switch 1 Direct Presentation May Take Place This Week

AJWolfTill

These sources seem incredibly spurious, but it's been so achingly quiet from Nintendo for months (beyond XCX marketing) I don't blame you for writing about it.
There are inevitably going to be Switch 1 releases taking us through the rest of the year from both 1st and 3rd parties but this would have made more sense a month ago.

Re: Sakurai Says Japanese Developers Should Avoid Trying To Appeal To Western Tastes

AJWolfTill

Be authentic to your artistic vision and make something that the creators would want to play themselves. So many disasters have been happening when market analysis is the leading driving force behind direction.

@Zuljaras
Interesting! I've never thought the from soft games felt mechanically particularly western, although their settings have certainly been rooted in European history and folklore.

Re: Chances Are You've Never Heard Of Nightdive Studio's Latest Switch Rerelease

AJWolfTill

Yeah, I own this and completed it (at least one ending). It's weirdly kind of like Live A Live with each chapter being a different time period and thematic setting.
Incredibly dark game that deals with things like sexual assault, self termination and genocide.
I'm pretty sure one of the playable characters was a Nazi scientist experimenting on live victims or something like that.
I think it's highly regarded amongst horror fans.

Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime 4 Will Apparently Make Quite The Splash At The Switch 2 Direct

AJWolfTill

@LastFootnote @canaryfarmer
I mean, BOTW was probably the highlight of the initial Switch showcase and that was a long gestated Wii U game held back to launch a console with.
Maybe it's a testament to how big an impact Nintendo thinks this game could have rather than how underwhelming the rest is.

@-wc-
I think the hope/belief is that the Switch 2 will enhance Switch 1 games due to all the AI upscaling tech.
If true makes sense to highlight this by comparing the difference with Metroid no?

Re: Poll: What's The Best Xenoblade Game? Rate Your Favourite For Our Upcoming Ranking

AJWolfTill

I really loved the first game. Primarily due to the exploration, systems and amazing OST.

I've played them all since then (although not 3's DLC yet).

X and 2 although maintaining the fun systems and exploration were totally all over the place and often quite cringe inducing to be honest.

If 3 hadn't been closer to the first game in tone I think I would have given up.

1, 3 and Torna are amazing. 2 and X less my jam.

To be honest, I've also never really vibed with the combat of this series. I've actually fallen asleep mid battle playing 2 and 3 several times.
I'd much rather they either went further into turn based or action based than the MMO style cooldowns.
