Re: "I Will Do Everything I Can" - IO Interactive Boss Promises 007 First Light Won't Pull A Borderlands 4

AJWolfTill

I suspect part of this decision is that the discourse around the initial performance issues of the Switch 2 edition of Hitman WoA hit their sales numbers.

Given that they are still adding new missions to that game years down the line I have no doubt this team has a long term commitment to First Light including the Switch 2 version.

@Elock
If you played one of the older ones and found it awkward, I did too but the recent trilogy is amazing.

This to me looks like Hitman with more story and character focus with more action set pieces and vehicle missions.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For 007: First Light

AJWolfTill

I'm confident in the game, everything I have seen looks like a good marriage of the hitman gameplay and the more linear set pieces of older bond games and Uncharted that I think is ideal for this IP.
The Switch 2 delay and lack of footage of this version does concern me though.

Re: Rumour: A Metroid Movie May Become A Reality As Two Studios Battle For Rights

AJWolfTill

I've always felt like Metroid could absolutely work as a live action movie. It's steeped in movie inspiration anyway. But it only works if they don't try and go for the broadest appeal possible. It needs to be tense and claustrophobic and not afraid to have stints of Samus alone against antagonists. The aliens need to be unpleasant and scary. It would be great if we felt like we were in the visor ourselves without being gimmicky.

The final girl trope works fine here. Send Samus on a mission with GF Troopers. Kill off or incapacitate them gradually as the film progresses. Make her simultaneously badass and resourceful but vulnerable.
Mercury Steam have been doing a great job with this balance.

Re: UK Charts: Pragmata Shoves Tomodachi Life Off The Top Spot

AJWolfTill

Looks like Switch 2 sales are very healthy. Glad to see the success of Pragmata and meaningful Switch 2 numbers there.

@Itsashame Haha, I know exactly what they mean but it's a little harder to quantify.

Gameplay and systems driven, score chasing mechanics, numbers getting thrown about on screen, big shoot ups, regular boss battles against giant enemies. Basically unashamedly full of video game tropes and design language that are second nature to gamers but would probably be alien to non gamers.
The direct antithesis of a minimal UI, cinematic storytelling driven game that aims to be grounded and realistic.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Play Zelda Games For The Story?

AJWolfTill

The 3D Zelda games have always done a great job of creating rich immersive worlds full of interesting cultures, individuals and history. The linear plot synopsis might not often be that exciting but I would not have fallen in love with this series if it's world wasn't so rich.

Obviously the best games are ones where the marriage of the different comprising art forms are all working together.
For me the worst entries in the series are the ones that do little to expand on the world or have minimum narrative effort. Good gameplay alone often feels like a hollow experience to me.

Re: Video: 007 First Light's New Trailer Highlights Q Branch, Tactical Simulation Mode, Outfits And More

AJWolfTill

@TheRazor don't know why I'm getting into a Star Wars debate on a Nintendo site about a Bong game but...Andor is better than everything else since the original trilogy and doesn't use those characters! I'd also argue that over adherence to classic characters severely hobbled the sequel trilogy (definitely not it's only fault).
Quality is based on the artistic vision, craft and performances.
I'm a lifelong Bond fan and completely fine with a female led '007' project. Calling them Jane Bond and acting like it's the same character would be weird but it's not like there is a rational way to argue that the films have featured the same individual over 60 years .

Re: Video: 007 First Light's New Trailer Highlights Q Branch, Tactical Simulation Mode, Outfits And More

AJWolfTill

@Hwatt
It's IO Interactive! Rest easy my friend this game will be great. It might excel in stealth more than all out combat but this is a dream partnership of studio and IP.

@Ryu_Niiyama
Other than Casino Royale they finished adapting the books decades ago. They've been doing original stories since then.
The newest film had a prominent female 00 agent but the series rarely spends much time on other 00 agents.

Re: Splatoon Raiders Is Alive, And It's Out This Summer On Switch 2

AJWolfTill

As someone who appreciates the Splatoon franchise but hasn't really clicked with it the most interesting things here are the price and date.
I wonder if this started out as NS2 edition content that grew beyond its original scope and ended up being something experimental quite similar to Bowser's Fury.

Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want From A New Star Fox Game?

AJWolfTill

The disparity in the comments section is why this series has been so dormant. There are multiple schools of preference but so many people are unwilling to compromise on what the series should be.
Personally I think they had something cooking with Command and feel that could be built into something special.
I'm just not going to buy a £60+ star fox game if the campaign is several hours with some divergence.
I also think Kid Icarus Uprising is a superior and under explored gameplay template.

Ultimately give me Gerry Anderson vibes please!

Re: Talking Point: If The Star Fox Rumours Are True, Where The Heck's Our Captain Toad Sequel?

AJWolfTill

I could see a meaningful sequel if they utilised Galaxies gravity effects more. Although potentially you just end up with Monument Valley at that point.

I'm not clamouring for more to be honest.
As charming and well designed as the game is I think I need more motivation and characterisation than 'villain steal maguffin,...track down and fight' repeat x 3 to endear me to a game.

Re: Looks Like 'Elden Ring' Will Be A Pricey Game-Key Card Release On Switch 2

AJWolfTill

Omg the comments section is tedious here.

Yes, gaming has gotten kind of exorbitantly expensive what with the cost of living crisis and yes $80 is a lot. This is however a Game of the Year winner with over a 100 hours of content and a massive expansion which was also so celebrated it became the first expansion to qualify for GOTY awards.

Are Switch 2 owners getting a worse deal than other platforms? Maybe? As far as I am aware the main issue here is that there is no option to buy the base game at the lower price and get the expansion later. So they haven't lowered the barrier to entry.
The quality and volume on offer here for that price though is definitely not that egregious.

Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?

AJWolfTill

Everyone should play Resi 4.
I love the Wii version specifically and would argue it's the best use of the controller outside of Motion+ (that's subjective and likely my nostalgia though so play it wherever you can).

If you are into games you've almost certainly picked up enough context for the series in general to not need to start from the beginning.

I just finished 7 and see no reason you couldn't start there but it differently intense.

Re: Blue Prince's Excellent Mansion Mystery Arrives On Switch 2 Today

AJWolfTill

@rjejr Sorry but this is an objectively wrong opinion XD

It was unlucky to come out the same month as Clair Obscura which went on to completely dominate the airwaves both that month and at the end of year award season.
This would have won a lot more game of the year awards otherwise.
It's the 10th highest rated game on Opencritic from last year (9th if you exclude TotK) and one of the only big indies missing from Switch 2. I probably sound like an ass but this is a huge win.

Re: Nintendo Indie World Showcase Announced For Tomorrow, 3rd March 2026

AJWolfTill

Don't really see how we get a general direct before May but apparently everyone else does XD
Pokopia, Tomodachi Life, Yoshi (likely will get a Nintendo Today 10 minute overview trailer) as well as the Wonder Upgrade means Nintendo's H1 calendar is already likely covered. Then you factor in the Indies and big 3rd parties like Pragmata, 007, Indiana Jones and the Bethesda stuff.
I want to know more too but we've got to be realistic about the cadence of 1st party releases and Nintendo not tending to announce many games more than 6 months in advance.
