Re: Nintendo President Says Longer Game Development Cycles Are "Unavoidable"

AJWolfTill

As a software developer I just want to add the controversial take to say there are absolutely ways to use AI without taking away from the human crafted experience. A lot of time consuming repetitive grunt work can be offloaded to AI to mean you get to the same place you were going faster.
Very different beast to farm out creative decisions to AI which I am against.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Nervous To Replay In Case They Don't Hold Up?

AJWolfTill

Haven't had this too often for games I played in the past but definitely struggle playing older games I didn't originally, particularly 16 bit RPGs.
I hooked up my N64 and replayed / 1st completed Jet Force Gemini recently which I was expecting to be more of a slog than it was.

I'd be a little nervous at revisiting DK 64 and Conkers Bad Fur Day.

I also think Mila's turnwheel may have broken older Fire Emblem games for me.

Re: Talking Point: Could Another Nintendo Series Take Over The 'Traditional' Zelda Template?

AJWolfTill

@-wc-
I do love the new ones as well but there is a desperate void of 3d dungeons in the vein of Zelda that almost nothing in the industry has successfully matched.

Okami did it well but that series is dormant, Darksiders 2 had very Zelda like dungeons but I don't know about the later one.
Nothing I've played in a long time has quite scratched that itch though.

2d Zelda seemingly has 100s of spiritual successors carrying the torch for it though.

AJWolfTill

@AvianBlue
I'm glad that they are making her play distinctive from link by not giving her a sword.
I was a little concerned that the whole puzzle/combat in this world would be via the rod but the fact that the D-pad item UI has empty slots in all the footage suggests to me that this is just the early signature tool and there will be others. I could be wrong and they just end up being for bottles or quest items.

Re: Random: Welp, Now Nintendo's Going After Sheet Music

AJWolfTill

So i was initially outraged because I assumed they were taking down stuff sheet music arrangements that people had put up for free
If this is limited to paywalled arrangements it's not quite the overstep I first thought although I do sympathise with the individuals like purpleschala who are effected.
If they start going after free stuff like tabs on ultimate guitar I'm going to be devastated as I use these all the time...

Re: 'Tales Of Kenzara: Zau' Director Addresses "Constant Targeted Harassment"

AJWolfTill

@RupeeClock
A bunch of conspiracy theories about things like demanding Spiderman 2 had more pride flags and pressuring developers to change their white characters to other ethnicities. It doesn't seem to matter that developers responsible for the changes and journalists have denied a lot of this stuff.

@InnerSound
Yeah I think there is a certain amount of desensitization to a lot of this stuff in the otaku crowd. To be fair I would find it hilarious if they made Senran Kagura Bulge with a gender swapped cast.

Re: 'Tales Of Kenzara: Zau' Director Addresses "Constant Targeted Harassment"

AJWolfTill

@Tobiaku
Sure, but those games are 100% targeting straight dudes and I doubt any women would ever view those games as inclusive or positive representation?

Be honest with yourself, if they added a bunch of straight white male characters to a game about punching people's clothes off wouldn't that trigger the same people you are talking about for different reasons?

Re: Rumour: Princess Zelda May Take The Starring Role In An Upcoming Game

AJWolfTill

I would be well up for this. Focus on the puzzle solving aspect of the series and the use of magic to distinguish the gameplay from the Link led entries. Could even lead the way for the continued existence of puzzle heavy traditional Zelda dungeons without compromising the path they are on with the mainline series.
I really like the Totk/Botw Zelda but I would be surprised if they set this hypothetical game in the same direct continuity.

Re: Chris Pratt Expects "Lots" Of Mario And Nintendo Movies Over The Next Decade

AJWolfTill

@Lizuka
I definitely feel a Metroid Horror movie could work. Samus and other bounty hunters get called in to investigate a research station that's gone dark or a distress signal by the Galactic Fed.
Kill off all or most the other BHs over the first two thirds of the film and then just focus on an intense game of cat and mouse with an evolved Metroid or Parasite X form.
As long as it is intense and rich in atmosphere and set design you don't need to have an overblown plot or huge cast of characters. The series is fairly derivative of Alien anyway so embrace that.

Re: Rumoured 'Hi-Fi Rush' Switch Port In Doubt As Microsoft Culls Tango Gameworks And Other Studios

AJWolfTill

Regardless of whether or not this comes to switch this is tragic.
Hopefully the Team can coalesce independently or under a separate publisher so they can continue making exceptional games.

It seems like Microsoft has spent the last two generations building it's portfolio of 1st party studios and IP. If it's now going to start culling acclaimed studios what was even the point.
We are probably going to see the same outcome with Ninja Theory after Senua's Sage sells modestly to high acclaim.

I was actually strongly considering picking up a series S yesterday but this has put me right off.

Re: Review: Tales Of Kenzera: ZAU (Switch) - An Emotional Metroidvania That Plays It Too Safe

AJWolfTill

@Not_Soos
That's a pretty lengthy post man! I'm not fully in tune with all your points but your opinions are nuanced and well articulated.

I've been routing for this game since the game awards as well. I may grab it down the line but having just finished PoP:tLC last week and Ori2 before that I might need a genre break. Particularly when Silksong could ambush us at any moment.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Princess Peach: Showtime! For Switch?

AJWolfTill

I don't think this game will drop in price enough for me to be tempted. Also it's the kind of experience I'd enjoy more in casual co-op.

Found the swordfighter portion of the demo pretty tedious and basic.
The patisserie part was much more enjoyable even if simple.

I played the Forgotten Land and Unicorn Overlord demos this week as well and preferred both of those.

Re: The First Review For Princess Peach: Showtime! Is In

AJWolfTill

@abbyhitter
Can you explain why people hold this opinion about IGN to me at least in terms of games?
I can see an obvious bias to certain franchises and publishers on Famitsu but I've never understood the broader blowback to IGN given they have dozens of different reviewers.
I'm only really aware of the "Too much water" controversy meme and the occasional snub (Alien Isolation)

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase?

AJWolfTill

Was a solid 7, a good variety of things there and lots of demos and available nows.
Somewhat compromised by 'almosts'.
Pentiment is cool but was hoping for Hifi.
The promise of more Rare on NSO was great but the selection was missing the ones I was hoping for. Mother 3 popping up in Japan is a bit of a slap in the face. The Battlefront pack was a delightful suprise but seems expensive...

And then I saw the Elden Ring DLC trailer and everything was overshadowed ...

Re: Random: It's Been Five Long Years Since Hollow Knight: Silksong Was Officially Announced

AJWolfTill

@Elock
Have you ever made it as far as the Mantis village? I ADORE this game but I can understand why people bounce off early on. The first couple of areas can be tricky to navigate as they are pretty desolate and the game doesn't give you the basic navigation tools for free. Additionally the lack of core abilities out the gate (especially the dash) means the combat feels really harsh at the start.
If you do give it another go I would use a guide to help you brute force through the first 2 areas.
