As a software developer I just want to add the controversial take to say there are absolutely ways to use AI without taking away from the human crafted experience. A lot of time consuming repetitive grunt work can be offloaded to AI to mean you get to the same place you were going faster. Very different beast to farm out creative decisions to AI which I am against.
Haven't had this too often for games I played in the past but definitely struggle playing older games I didn't originally, particularly 16 bit RPGs. I hooked up my N64 and replayed / 1st completed Jet Force Gemini recently which I was expecting to be more of a slog than it was.
I'd be a little nervous at revisiting DK 64 and Conkers Bad Fur Day.
I also think Mila's turnwheel may have broken older Fire Emblem games for me.
@-wc- I do love the new ones as well but there is a desperate void of 3d dungeons in the vein of Zelda that almost nothing in the industry has successfully matched.
Okami did it well but that series is dormant, Darksiders 2 had very Zelda like dungeons but I don't know about the later one. Nothing I've played in a long time has quite scratched that itch though.
2d Zelda seemingly has 100s of spiritual successors carrying the torch for it though.
@AvianBlue I'm glad that they are making her play distinctive from link by not giving her a sword. I was a little concerned that the whole puzzle/combat in this world would be via the rod but the fact that the D-pad item UI has empty slots in all the footage suggests to me that this is just the early signature tool and there will be others. I could be wrong and they just end up being for bottles or quest items.
So i was initially outraged because I assumed they were taking down stuff sheet music arrangements that people had put up for free If this is limited to paywalled arrangements it's not quite the overstep I first thought although I do sympathise with the individuals like purpleschala who are effected. If they start going after free stuff like tabs on ultimate guitar I'm going to be devastated as I use these all the time...
Well I think it's fairly safe to say that if we DON'T see it this month in the direct, it's not coming to the Switch. So no news in this case will still be news.
Unless the Switch 2 is not out till November 25 which would be surprising in and of itself.
@RupeeClock A bunch of conspiracy theories about things like demanding Spiderman 2 had more pride flags and pressuring developers to change their white characters to other ethnicities. It doesn't seem to matter that developers responsible for the changes and journalists have denied a lot of this stuff.
@InnerSound Yeah I think there is a certain amount of desensitization to a lot of this stuff in the otaku crowd. To be fair I would find it hilarious if they made Senran Kagura Bulge with a gender swapped cast.
@Tobiaku Sure, but those games are 100% targeting straight dudes and I doubt any women would ever view those games as inclusive or positive representation?
Be honest with yourself, if they added a bunch of straight white male characters to a game about punching people's clothes off wouldn't that trigger the same people you are talking about for different reasons?
What Nintendo franchise not yet represented by the Switch do you most want to see return. Same Q 3rd party. Which Nintendo game or series do you think best represents or is the poster child for the Switch (For example I would say Pokémon for Gameboy, Mario Bros for Nes, Zelda for N64. I hope this makes sense)
Not going to lie, I originally mixed this up with the horror streaming platform "shudder" and got very confused. This is still unexpected but not quite as left field as I first thought...
I would be well up for this. Focus on the puzzle solving aspect of the series and the use of magic to distinguish the gameplay from the Link led entries. Could even lead the way for the continued existence of puzzle heavy traditional Zelda dungeons without compromising the path they are on with the mainline series. I really like the Totk/Botw Zelda but I would be surprised if they set this hypothetical game in the same direct continuity.
@Lizuka I definitely feel a Metroid Horror movie could work. Samus and other bounty hunters get called in to investigate a research station that's gone dark or a distress signal by the Galactic Fed. Kill off all or most the other BHs over the first two thirds of the film and then just focus on an intense game of cat and mouse with an evolved Metroid or Parasite X form. As long as it is intense and rich in atmosphere and set design you don't need to have an overblown plot or huge cast of characters. The series is fairly derivative of Alien anyway so embrace that.
@NarwhalKing It's also exclusive to a console with a smaller user base. I think it will be an evergreen title as more and more people upgrade to PS5 but whether SE factors that in as a positive is another question
Very cool, this one had been intriguing me but I wasn't expecting it to reach this level! Will deffo put it on the wishlist.
@Mrkittyhead Don't be, they were reviewed by different people and would therefore of had different criteria to reach that score. Hollow Knight is absolutely a 10 in my eyes and is celebrated as one of the all time best in the genre.
Regardless of whether or not this comes to switch this is tragic. Hopefully the Team can coalesce independently or under a separate publisher so they can continue making exceptional games.
It seems like Microsoft has spent the last two generations building it's portfolio of 1st party studios and IP. If it's now going to start culling acclaimed studios what was even the point. We are probably going to see the same outcome with Ninja Theory after Senua's Sage sells modestly to high acclaim.
I was actually strongly considering picking up a series S yesterday but this has put me right off.
Stunning as always. My wife has a few of their items from previous Nintendo Collabs and they are always great quality. I would have killed for those Majoras mask hoodies 10 years ago.
@Not_Soos That's a pretty lengthy post man! I'm not fully in tune with all your points but your opinions are nuanced and well articulated.
I've been routing for this game since the game awards as well. I may grab it down the line but having just finished PoP:tLC last week and Ori2 before that I might need a genre break. Particularly when Silksong could ambush us at any moment.
@anoyonmus Obviously I don't know for sure as the game isn't out but from what we know about Silksong and how the first game ends I don't really think it would matter if you had. That said, why wouldn't you!? It's amazing and one of the best value games on the switch!
@anoyonmus I wouldn't have thought so. Its a different protagonist who plays differently and a whole different region. The story of the first was mainly about the place rather than the people. There might be the odd recurring character.
@AstroTheGamosian Guessing you won't run into other people's recruitable avatar characters out and about anymore. And the multiplayer raids will be gone which might make some quests impossible or much more painful.
Given that this is UK centric I can see Lara being ahead of Mario. My parents were definitely more aware of Lara than Mario. In no world are Agent 47 and Sackboy more iconic than Donkey Kong or Pikachu though...
@Kirbysonic Been powering playing the AJ trilogy with my wife which has been helping her get through a tough time. Hope things start to pick up for you soon. The anime has an incredible blooper reel. Make sure you check that out when you are done!
Kind of sad they are getting 'remake' requests much more than 'new' requests.
@LikelySatan David Lowery Can work within studio confines but has an amazing artistic style. Check out The Green Knight. I'm more down on the writers than the director as he seems to specialise in developing new CG technologies and is a proven fan.
@abbyhitter Can you explain why people hold this opinion about IGN to me at least in terms of games? I can see an obvious bias to certain franchises and publishers on Famitsu but I've never understood the broader blowback to IGN given they have dozens of different reviewers. I'm only really aware of the "Too much water" controversy meme and the occasional snub (Alien Isolation)
This is next on my list of gaming purchases anyway. Just need to finish Sparks of Hope and Xeno3 first. As soon as the sale hits Europe I'm picking this up.
@sixrings I don't think Nintendo gets enough push back for this. I don't imagine it's any bearing on your kid. My niece was fluently bilingual age 5 and struggled with a few Nintendo games for years for this reason. Animal crossing is particularly egregious.
Have we had confirmation this still has local multiplayer? That was a crucial component of the originals and is a bigger deal-breaker than this bloated filesize.
Was a solid 7, a good variety of things there and lots of demos and available nows. Somewhat compromised by 'almosts'. Pentiment is cool but was hoping for Hifi. The promise of more Rare on NSO was great but the selection was missing the ones I was hoping for. Mother 3 popping up in Japan is a bit of a slap in the face. The Battlefront pack was a delightful suprise but seems expensive...
And then I saw the Elden Ring DLC trailer and everything was overshadowed ...
@dustinprewitt Seems unrealistic to expect any NSO announcements at a 3rd party conference. You can rule out DK entirely as that is a 1st party property. Rare is eligible I guess...
Would love a Kid Icarus continuation of the 3ds game. A remaster seems more likely. Would rather Metroid Prime 4 was a next gen powerhouse but would pick it up wherever it emerges. The rumoured Fire Emblem echoes game and Silksong would probably satiate me for most the year.
@Elock Have you ever made it as far as the Mantis village? I ADORE this game but I can understand why people bounce off early on. The first couple of areas can be tricky to navigate as they are pretty desolate and the game doesn't give you the basic navigation tools for free. Additionally the lack of core abilities out the gate (especially the dash) means the combat feels really harsh at the start. If you do give it another go I would use a guide to help you brute force through the first 2 areas.
I'm sure the reason it's taken so long is that whenever they get close to finishing they go into bug squashing mode and end up deleting all the characters from the game and having to restart.
Here's hoping we get a late in life NintendoSelects range so I can finally justify picking up this 10 year old game!! I listened to the soundtrack anyway which naturally slaps.

I don't think this game will drop in price enough for me to be tempted. Also it's the kind of experience I'd enjoy more in casual co-op.
Found the swordfighter portion of the demo pretty tedious and basic.
The patisserie part was much more enjoyable even if simple.
