Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase?

AJWolfTill

Was a solid 7, a good variety of things there and lots of demos and available nows.
Somewhat compromised by 'almosts'.
Pentiment is cool but was hoping for Hifi.
The promise of more Rare on NSO was great but the selection was missing the ones I was hoping for. Mother 3 popping up in Japan is a bit of a slap in the face. The Battlefront pack was a delightful suprise but seems expensive...

And then I saw the Elden Ring DLC trailer and everything was overshadowed ...

Re: Random: It's Been Five Long Years Since Hollow Knight: Silksong Was Officially Announced

AJWolfTill

@Elock
Have you ever made it as far as the Mantis village? I ADORE this game but I can understand why people bounce off early on. The first couple of areas can be tricky to navigate as they are pretty desolate and the game doesn't give you the basic navigation tools for free. Additionally the lack of core abilities out the gate (especially the dash) means the combat feels really harsh at the start.
If you do give it another go I would use a guide to help you brute force through the first 2 areas.

Re: 'Twitch Plays Pokémon' Returning To Kanto For Its 10th Anniversary

AJWolfTill

@CharlieZee
I got a lot of enjoyment in checking in semi regularly to see what ridiculous things happened.
E.g. There was a 'bloody Sunday' event where they released half a dozen Pokémon including their starter.
I don't think I ever 'played' it but I enjoyed it out of morbid curiosity and loved the nonsense lore that it spawned

Re: Sony CEO Drums Up Hype For Nintendo's Zelda Movie

AJWolfTill

@Bratwurst35
To be clear I don't think this will exceed a 7/10, I'm just trying to draw attention to Wes' output beyond some apparently mediocre YA adaptations.
Hopefully we at least get a soundtrack as good as the Mario Movie's (without the dumb needle drops)

Re: Sony CEO Drums Up Hype For Nintendo's Zelda Movie

AJWolfTill

This comment changes EVERYTHING!
But for real, I'm willing to believe the reason Wes Ball is involved is because
A) He has a genuine passion for it.
B) He has a background and expertise in CGI work (check out some of his short films)
C) This is going to be live action in the way Avatar Way of Water is where there are sets and physical performances but the characters will be CG enhanced mocap performances and not live action in the way the LOTR or most fantasy films are.

I have no faith in the currently attached writer though.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Year 2023 - Nintendo Life Staff Awards

AJWolfTill

@KateGray
I think I knew you'd left but had repressed it or been in denial. 😅
Very honoured you took the time to write up your favs list at my belligerent request!
Most of those are already on my wishlist but great to know they have the KG seal of approval! I hadn't heard of Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood or Cobalt Core though. (I realise at times like this how few games I play the year they release).
Sennaar, Idol, Cocoon and Outer Wilds are almost definitely going to be my jam.

Re: Geoff Keighley Reminds Everyone To Get Their Votes In For The Game Awards

AJWolfTill

Difficult to watch live when it's on at 12:30 am.
I'll be trying to avoid the news/results as much as possible before then though.
I think Geoff has recaptured that E3 magic pretty well. Just hope there is space for the human stories that emerge about the creators. Games for Impact shouldn't be rapid fired as it's led to some of the most powerful moments in the shows history.

Re: Nintendo Is Launching An 18+ N64 Switch Online App In Japan

AJWolfTill

@EarthboundBenjy

There is a game mechanic around collecting heads you can shoot off. Certain guns cause enemies to ... rupture/detonate?
You can do this to certain allied NPC characters as well. Some of the boss fights use dismemberment as a mechanic as well.

It would't explain an 18 rating by modern standards but it is more gory than Metroid for sure.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?

AJWolfTill

Love OoT but just don't see that working as a single film.
Wind Waker seems like the sensible choice. Aludes to previous legends, main characters has a grounded family dynamic and is motivated by that for the first part of the story. Tetra would be a great companion/foil. Includes both Zelda and Ganondorf in meaningful ways.
It's world would be look distinctively different as well.

I'd see value in doing the Age of Calamity part of BOTW but writing in Ganondorf instead of Calamity Gannon.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games

AJWolfTill

@PoeTheLizard
Cross gen seems very sensible to be fair.
I've been imagining they will lean on Metroid Prime 4 to showcase what the new system is capable of and to inspire the core demographic to pick it up the console at launch.
I feel like the series is more of a system seller thanks to its prestige and clout than something that is ever going to sell in the tens of millions.

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

AJWolfTill

Wes Ball as director is an unknown quantity to me, not inspiring but not troubling.
... Derek Connolly as a writer though...
Skull Island, Jurassic World, Rise of Skywalker and Detective Pikachu all suffered from shallow characters at the expense of trying to manufacture nostalgia. This film is absolutely going to be a box ticking exercise.

Best case scenario is the soundtrack slaps.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Is Leaving PlatinumGames

AJWolfTill

Whoah. Hopefully this is a sign of creative differences rather than some scandal about to surface.

@LXP8
I share your hopes. He's been on the record saying Capcom have been the block on that. You never know he could end up working on titles in partnership with them again.

Re: 50 Best GameCube Games Of All Time

AJWolfTill

At time of writing (after the announcement of the remake) TTYD is no 1!
I assume this is in part because of the high barrier to entry nowadays.
Hopefully Nintendo will get round to a Radiant Collection so I can finally experience that as well!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?

AJWolfTill

Some cool stuff for sure. F-Zero 99 is great fun. Peach looks legit, cool to see stuff like Another Code R getting a second life.
As excited as I am to get a chance to play 1000 year door it's honestly baffling to me that they choose to reveal this while we already have a remake of Mario RPG on the way. As someone who is curious about both I'm almost certainly going to skip one of them now.

Re: Soapbox: Rayman Legends Blew My Mind Then Broke My Heart

AJWolfTill

@Ultimapunch
I'm assuming you missed an adjective in there 😁
Otherwise your tepid take is just madness.

Rayman Legends probably is my favourite 2D platformer. Back in the Wii U dark ages I spent hours in the demo trying to get gold and platinum medals in the online competitive levels.

I'd also say it was the best game pad use alongside Zombi Unand Nintendo Land.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct Showcase?

AJWolfTill

I can tell it will be fun but it didn't do much for me. Character roster is cool, badge system seems like it could be interesting, although unlikely to change up exploration that much.
I like the new expressive character models but the game itself looked more like a refresh than anything revolutionary. Maybe because the world themes seemed uninspired?

I don't really know what it would take to get me excited in a new 2D Mario game to be honest but I'm glad it's doing it for other people.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo IP Should 'Switch 2' Launch With?

AJWolfTill

Honestly, given we are getting Mario Wonder, Mario RPG and Peach in the next 6-9 months a new 3d Mario seems a bit excessive.
I hope that team is trying there hand at Donkey Kong like the rumour suggested.
Wouldn't surprise me if that Peach game is a cross platform launch game.

I think we'll see MP4 when we first see the console but it won't be a launch game.
