I don’t see the added value of the hybrid model anymore. The device became way too big to conveniently use it on the go, and the battery life is awful. For a TV console it’s underpowered and overpriced.

I love the enthusiasm and passion people can have for Nintendo. I’m happy for them.

I wish I could feel it too for the Switch 2, but the excitement just isn’t there this time.

Of course they are comparable, they are both gaming devices. There are some major differences, sure. And if you want to play Nintendo games it’s a non-decision. But for a broader gamer they are both two plausible options to consider.

I really don’t like this open world trend. It’s like every game suddenly needs to have this angle.

First time I'm not getting a new Nintendo console on launch. I just don't feel the love at the moment. There have been too many consumer unfriendly decisions lately.

Besides, the huge screen size and poor battery life make it unsuitable for portable gaming for me.

Horrible practice. Just another way to push people towards going digital.

At least we still have a choice right now. There comes a point that they will even take that away.

A bigger game does not automatically mean it's better.

I, for one, do not care for these "open world" trends at all. I just want to race against my friends and have a good time.

All of them are gorgeous. Really nice box arts!

Except of course the ridiculous text banners on the Switch 1 games. What an awful decision. People aren't even going to read that text anyway.

If they want to push everyone so aggressively towards going digital, they better get these things in order...

Ugh. The more news drops in, the worse things get. At least for physical gaming.

I wish they would simply drop the hybrid concept.

II don’t want a high-end, expensive portable device, that requires overpriced SD cards that can’t even fit all the data on it at times.

I just want a no-nonsense gaming experience. A simple box underneath my TV that plays Nintendo games is all I desire.

The game is looking great so far, but I do hope it’s going to feel like a true DK experience.

I always hate it when they have an original gameplay idea and smack a random franchise on it, just for the sake of recognition. I hope that won’t be the case here.

@RiasGremory I don’t really see that as a proper a reason, since they managed to give their successors original names many times before, like the Super NES, GameBoy Advance and 3DS. Nobody was confused about those, yet they still included the original brand name and clearly communicated they were the next big thing.

As soon as I heard the name they were going with, I already had a bad feeling about the direction things were heading. But yeah, the name is probably the least pressing issue right now…

I’ve been a diehard fan ever since the NES. This is the first time ever I’m not hyped for a new Nintendo device. They missed the mark on so many areas, the absurd prices are just the icing to the cake.

Switch 2 really lacks the usual Nintendo charm. They couldn’t even come up with an original name, for the first time in their history. They’ve become so corporate, so business-focused and consumer unfriendly…
Their popularity clearly isn’t doing them any good…

In other words, the tariffs weren't even factored in in the current prices. That makes things even more bizarre.

It seems like quite an impressive device for a portable gaming machine!

However... The poor battery life and such a big screen make it very unfit for gaming on the go... For me personally at least.

Probably means retailers are getting even less margin on the games they sell. Sad developments all around.

It became painfully clear that they are trying to phase out physical gaming this generation, and not in a subtle way.

Nice that it brings NSO+ a bit of extra value.

But honestly, it really shouldn't have been put behind a paywall like that. If people already bought your system, the successor system and the game, I think they were drained enough to at least get a basic upgrade...

I've always enjoyed experimenting with these kinds of whimsical features. Like they also did with the GameCube mic and the DSi for example.

But the thing is, these gimmicks have always been either free or very cheap to try out in the past. This time they're expecting a serious investment, and then I just don't think it will be worth it.

People might drop 80/90 bucks for Mario Kart or Zelda, but many other games are going to struggle at such a price tag. I fear a situation where developers are going to take even less risks and only focus on what they know will sell.

One way or another, I can't see this playing out positively for the consumer.

It definitely doesn't look bad. But it doesn't really look "next gen" either. But it's Mario Kart - it has always been a gameplay-above-looks kinda series and that's perfectly fine.

This was easily the best new feature for me. But I do have doubts about the practicality about it. I fear that after the initial gimmicky user cases, it will fade away quickly...

The mediocre battery life and larger size make it even less suited to use as a handheld. Guess my good ol' DS keeps getting playtime for the coming years.

I'm not sold yet on the psychic abilities, but everything else sounds great so far!

They perfectionized the hybrid concept, which was the most sensible step to do for their next console. Except it feels like it comes a few years too late, and at a few dollars too many...

I really liked this quirky concept! Finally something that felt "Nintendo-ish" again. But as others have stated, charging for it is pretty ridiculous.

Quite a naive comment coming from an Art Director... Of course there's going to be debate among fans whenever an established icon changes its appearance. Personally I love the new look though!

I wouldn't have mind such as heavy price increase if this was the big next thing. But it's not, it's just the Switch 2. The price increase is disproportional for this relatively small technical leap.

Ugh, yet another blow to physical gaming... This actually makes me inclined to just buy the regular Switch version.

Seems like the crazy prices and ugly monetisation practices are killing off most of the buzz.

I think they're mascot should become Wario instead of Mario. Those prices and monetisation practices are getting quite out of hand.

I hate to sound negative, but overall it was quite disappointing. It just doesn't feel like a true successor. This would've been a fine upgrade - if it was released two years ago.

I especially didn't like the fact that they are trying to monetise every single thing they can...

To me, most of it felt like bells and whistles, especially considering the fact that the camera isn't included by default. Although I did enjoy the mouse addition, I hope it'll prove to be more than just a gimmick!

Actually, it's not cheaper if you look at it in a relative matter. Your reasoning about inflation overlooks the fact that, in today's society, the cost of living has also disproportionally risen across the board. As a result, the average person has a smaller percentage of their income available to spend on hobbies than before.

Biggest price increase they ever did. The NES up until the GameCube all launched at 200 USD. And the upgrade feels smaller than ever this time...

For that price they could have at least bundled the camera with it.

I loved the concept of this, but it's quite bizarre that they are charging money for it. They even added Wii Sports for free with the Wii...

June is pretty quick. But none of the launch games gave me that "must have" feeling, so the price is going to play an important role this time.

It looked... Rough.

I'm not convinced yet on the "World" mechanic, but I guess it was hard to go any other way after MK 8, which was packed with content.

It looks like a fun addition. Reminds me of the DSi camera shenanigans.

But honestly, this should've been an integrated function, and not sold separately.

Finally something new and fresh! It looked great!

Pretty disappointed that this turned out to be Sakurai's next project. The original was fun, but nothing amazing.

At least it's a new entry, and not simply a remake.

I doubt this is true. I expect they rather keep doing GameCube "remakes", so they can sell them full price again.

I hate to be negative about one of my most beloved franchises, but I actually don't think the game looked very impressive... I wish they would've moved this to Switch 2 to give it some extra punch.

People love surprises and old franchises getting revived, so this makes sense. Besides, the Switch 2 didn’t exactly show much yet to get hyped about.

It does seem to hint at the mouse functionality. Hopefully there will be more innovations like that to make it more than just a bigger and slightly stronger Switch.

I strongly dislike the banner on the bottom of the European one that explains what the game is about. That would be more suited to put on the back.

It’s good to see them back! Hopefully they’ll get used more often again on Switch 2.
