I agree with what others have stated regarding X. People come here looking to unwind, to have a good time, and not dive into political debates.

Entertainment sites like NL should focus on what they do best—providing engaging content and enjoyment about (Nintendo) games, and stay away from political discussions as far as possible. Featuring a letter like this only fuels unnecessary conflict.

No more remakes, please!

Focus on making great new games instead.

Definitely prefer distribution on NSO over the remake route. The games are fine as they are, there’s no need to brush them up and pay full price again.

The problem is that they usually seem to get by with putting in the bare minimum effort. Because the core of the franchise is so solid, it’s sometimes enough to still create an enjoyable experience.

That said, I really hope there comes a day when they aim higher, showing more ambition and striving for a truly exceptional, high-quality game experience again.

You’re suggesting paying for yet another subscription would be more convenient for me? I fail to see how that would be better.

Never before have they done such a steep price increase from one console to the next.

From the NES up until the GameCube, their systems all released at the same price of $199.
The Wii bumped things up to $249, and the Wii U and Switch went to $299.

Especially considering the fact that the Switch 2 is just a minor upgrade, an increase of 100$ feels a bit unwarranted.

Both are pretty bad.

I like the fact that you see the entire team on the Japanese one, but the messy composition inside an emblem frame ruins most of it.

I prefer the original version. Mostly because you can play it on the big screen with an actual controller.

Palworld brought it on themselves though. It’s a shame, if they just had a shown a bit more ambition and didn’t do all the blatant copying, the franchise could have seen a bright future.

Peculiar choice given the tragic state the Star Wars franchise is currently in, but hey, it’s his dream.

It’s good that that they don’t include it by default. People who only play in dock mode would be paying significantly more for a feature they won’t use.

This isn't necessarily good news. An affordable machine sounds appealing, but it's definitely coming at the cost of what's underneath the hood.

When they had the VC model, people complained that they rather have a subscription service.

Getting pretty tired of seeing nothing but ports these days.

The Western one is the clear winner for the box.

The Japanese design would have been fun for the manual.

I have to say they handle the mobile strategy very well so far. They’ve put some of their big IPs on their in a suitable way. Fun apps, that are by no means “the real deal”, but do a good job in getting the brand known.

I feel the new hardware does little on its own to warrant a purchase this time around. There’s no novelty aspect and the technical upgrades appear to be minor. So they need wonderful, exclusive games to do the talking.

This will be a tricky thing to balance out. Looking forward to seeing how it unfolds!

What a strange, narrow-minded comment coming from a developer. Why not just let people enjoy the game, regardless which system they prefer?

Strange statement. Their target audience has been the same since the Wii.

And before the Wii, their systems were more aimed at hardcore players, not kids.

I just can’t picture using this on the couch in front of a TV. Even less so on the go.

But I’d love to be proven wrong when they pull the curtain on it.

Of course they won’t drop the price for the original Switch anytime soon, and perhaps never.

A large proportion of their user base consists of casual families. If they make the price gap too big, those users would be perfectly fine sticking to the original model.

I think he’s right. There just aren’t a lot of people left who are interested and don’t have a Switch yet.

The only target audience I can imagine actively holding off a purchase right now, are those with a broken device.

Completely agree with the interview. The lack of surprises was very disappointing, and Switch 2 feels like a more straightforward upgrade than ever.

Hopefully they’re saving all the fireworks for the Direct!

The first footage of the new machine and Mario Kart has me worried too much to be hyped. It feels like this console will be the most modest upgrade ever.

Hopefully it’s all tactics and the Direct will be full of amazing surprises.

Star Fox Zero was amazing. I liked it even more because of the original control scheme.

I'm very glad I had the chance to enjoy a game which broke the conventions like that. It will probably not happen anytime soon again.

Hearing names like the “Super” Nintendo, or the GameBoy “Advance” had so much wow-effect! It just instantly generated excitement, right?

It’s funny how much a good name can do for the hype factor.

@BTB20 I completely agree with you. I'm not arguing against the fact that the Wii U failed, and that the confusing name had a part in that.

But looking at Nintendo's history, they've also had great success with follow-up consoles that didn’t rely on numbers for their names. People seem to forget that.

@Simone93 Just because the Wii U name was a bad choice, does not mean only a number is a valid naming convention.

They’ve proven this multiple times in the past. Super Nintendo, GameBoy Advance and 3DS were all great names for iterative systems. They didn’t confuse anyone, yet still managed to refer to the original branding and convey the message that they are the next big thing.

Easiest choice ever for these polls.

The Wii U argument makes zero sense.

Super Nintendo, GameBoy Advance, 3DS… All great successor names that caused no confusion at all with the consumers.

I truly miss their playful and innovative attitude. Sticking a “2” behind it feels really dull.

Unfortunately I fear we’re getting a plain color this time though… They seem to be straying further from the playful side of things and trying to look more slick and modern…

All in all, this seems like it isn’t a true black or white case. Both parties have valid arguments.

As always everyone is inclined to root for the underdog, but to be honest, I can understand where they’re coming from. The term “Super Mario” has become such a household term, everyone automatically associates it with the character.

I’m not saying they are always in the right, but it does make perfect sense that they try to defend their IP.

The more the merrier, yes, but hopefully this won’t impact the quality of the game. Making titles multiplatform takes a lot of time and resources these days.

@Zenibeans I feel you. I totally get the sentiment. It also broke my gamer heart when SEGA fell apart and started publishing their iconic titles on every device they could. This XBox situation is giving me the same feeling. It’s a bit sad, even desperate. I hope they can bounce back.

I agree that the Switch 2 feels a bit lackluster, and is lacking the typical Nintendo charm and innovation.

Bug we didn’t see any games yet, so let’s hope they’re going to make up for it at the next Direct with some amazing content!

Both are gorgeous! I love that hand drawn style, it has so much charm and personality.

It’s an absolutely fantastic game. But I have to agree with his own statement, at a certain point a game can have “too much” content. But it’s his baby, and he can do whatever he wants.

I grew up playing NES games as a kid.

Most of them were brutally hard, but that didn’t make me enjoy them any less.

Well, DragonAge was horrible. I can’t believe they butchered a high profile IP like that.

FIFA / FC might still suffer from the name change.

Hopefully this urges them to do better going forward.

I absolutely love Banjo-Kazooie, but the magic is gone, and recapturing it won’t work. Nuts and Bolts was already prove of that.

@Jhena Wow, is that true? I didn’t realize they censored all of that. That sounds awful, seems like they removed all the sharp edges from dialogue just to avoid someone feeling offended?

Yes, I agree, most people seem to be against it. And I don't think it's because they are actually opposed to inclusion, but due to the ways how corporations are mishandling it and trying to force it down everyone's throat in unnatural ways. (DragonAge, anyone?)
Things like that only trigger anti-responses.

Nintendo does it at their own way. They've always been inclusive. I don't feel there's any hidden agenda there. Just look at Birdo, that character has been around since decades.

AstroBot was a lot of fun!

I did feel that it lacked that little something extra to put it in the top league alongside the likes of Mario. But who knows what the next installment might bring!

@-wc- I can totally relate to your frustration. Though I personally feel like this issue has been present for a longer time. The Wii (U) components for example, weren't exactly high quality either.

I also solely play the Switch docked. The tradeoffs for having the hybrid features aren't worth it for me at all. But that's just the way it is, unfortunately.
