@GrailUK Turning things into a witch hunt doesn't help anyone and only drags the community down. If someone's opinion bothers you, it's often best to just hit ignore and move on.
@Anti-Matter I just wanted to say there's no need to defend your opinion. Your perspective matters, and it’s completely okay to express fair criticism or even praise for a competitor. I know it can be tough when passionate fans push back, but please don’t let that discourage you. You’re not doing anything wrong—your voice is valid, and it deserves to be heard just as much. Anyone that doesn't like it, can simply hit the "ignore" button.
On the one hand, I’m happy for their succes.
On the other, I’m not sure this is actually good news for consumers. We’ve seen some very dubious business decions lately and I fear this might only grow worse.
I like that it feels more premium than the typical Nintendo product. But the battery performance is really unacceptable. Makes it nearly unusable as a handheld. The overly big size doesn’t help the portability either.
It would be convenient if it could be listed somewhere in the Switch 2 reviews whether a game has a proper physical release or if it’s a game-key version.
I think this is crucial information for many gamers, and I always find myself having to google for it or browse through the comments.
Obviously it should’ve been a packed in demo. That would’ve reduced the “greedy corporate” feeling somewhat, that many people are experiencing lately due to all the price increases and paywalls. Now it just enforces it.
Rewind? No thanks. I love to be brutally punished and having to replay the same bits over and over. It makes the feeling of accomplishment so much more satisfying.
@Superick Don't forget that Wii Sports was already bundled with the Wii system for free, to showcase the motion controls. Meanwhile, the PlayStation received a free AstroBot game as a welcome bonus.
Therefore this move fuels the growing perception that they're becoming increasingly driven by profit.
Kremlings would’ve been great, but it’s clear by now that it’s not going to happen. Very strange that in most of their series they stick to the beloved and familiar faces, but with DK, they insist on using new disposable enemies every time.
For Bananza, I just hope it’s going to feel more like a real Donkey Kong game. Right now it looks like they came up with the demolition gimmick and just stuck a random IP on it…
While the original Yooka-Laylee was a fun title, it wasn't a widespread hit, so choosing to focus on a remake feels like a strange move. Besides, considering it was released only eight years ago, it's a bit soon for a remake to really capture my interest.
These accessories prices are getting way out of hand. It’s like Nintendo became the Apple of the game industry, where you pay extra just for the brand.
Publishers should learn to read the room. Listen to gamers. Don't try to cut every corner possible. Has it really become that hard to simply release a proper product? Just put the game on the cartridge and stop making excuses.
I agree with your POV. It's not really the "big", next thing, it's more of an upgrade. But this is the cycle they usually go through. They tend to follow up an innovative machine by a stronger, more refined version.
@larryisaman
Nintendo has a strong history of follow-up systems with original and effective names. Sure, the "Wii U" may have missed the mark, but titles like the "Super Nintendo," "Game Boy Advance," and "3DS" were clear, distinctive, and resonated well with audiences—none of them felt misleading or caused confusion. I don't see why the situation would be any different for the Switch family?
To me, the move toward a more iterative naming approach feels like a reflection of current industry trends—perhaps a sign of the times. For better or worse, Nintendo appears to be evolving with those expectations. This shift is also evident in the hardware itself, which features a design that feels much more modern and "mature" compared to their previous systems.
Switch 2 will probably turn into a system I keep on the side for that select bunch of Nintendo titles. High prices and Game-Keys make it less attractive.
Obviously third party publishers are going to take the easy and cheap way when you offer them an alternative like this. Even if it comes at the expense of consumers.
So it seems a lot of resources are reserved for a feature only a fraction of players will use. If GameChat is such an integral part of the system, perhaps they shouldn’t put it behind a paywall.
@GrailUK True, no one knows anything for certain — we’re all just speculating, and the future is never set in stone.
But we can consider this: Mario Kart is $30 cheaper when bundled with the Switch 2, and it's safe to assume they're still turning a profit on it that way. In any case, for a game that will probably move millions an millions, I think they could easily afford to include a small piece of paper.
I understand it's not happening ever again though — it's obviously all about maximizing profits. Maybe most people don't even care. Still, it would’ve been a nice gesture, a small way to show some love for the physical format, especially since a lot of people feel like it's a candle burning out. Plus, it could’ve helped justify the higher price tag for a physical copy, because there's been a lot of uproar about that.
@GrailUK I don’t think they will struggle to break even with the production costs, especially at the current asking price for a physical copy. If anything, there’s probably a very wide profit margin included.
The hybrid model worked wonders, but to me it’s losing much of its initial appeal with Switch 2. The system is really big, and the battery life is quite poor, so the portability aspect will be heavily compromised. Besides that, the game cards are a horrible medium for today’s games.
Bigger isn’t always better. I’d rather have a more condensed, streamlined experience for a regular price than all these “huge games full of content” at a premium rate.
@Ogbert Absolutely, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I think it's fair to say that the overall sentiment on this approach is quite negative.

@Olliemar28 Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that!

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube) - A Timeless Treasure
One of the best games ever. I’m glad more people are able to enjoy it now.

Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?
I’m sorry, but a battery like that is absolutely unacceptable for a handheld device.
Re: Hardware Review (In Progress): Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch
I really dislike the bigger size and poor battery life. This makes it very unsuitable to use as an actual handheld.
Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch 2 Size Comparison - Here's How It Compares To (Nearly) Every Handheld Known To Humankind
Why does it have to be so big? Kinda defies the purpose of being a handheld to be honest…
Re: 007 First Light Official Game Reveal, Launching On Switch 2 In 2026
Yikes. An origin story with a young Bond is definitely not what I was hoping for.
Oh well, I can always replay GoldenEye.
Re: Publishers Are "Thanking" Nintendo For Game-Key Cards On Switch 2
Yes, thank the million dollar company and screw the consumers. Great move!

Re: Preview: Mario Kart World's True Genius Is Its Movement, Not Its World
Glad to hear there’s more to it than just the open world twist, because that’s actually a huge turn off for me.
Re: Feature: "It Was Always About Surviving Together" - Why Konami Chose This Forgotten IP For Switch 2's Launch
I loved the original! Normally a revival would’ve made me very excited, but yikes, this looks awful. Could’ve fooled me for a mobile game….
Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Kart World
I really dislike this “open world” trend. I prefer simple, straightforward fun.

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'
I’m not saying goodbye to my Switch 1 ever.
Switch 2 raised too many concerns and has too many downgrades compared to the original one, so I’m sticking to my current systems.
First time since the NES that I’m not getting a Nintendo console at launch, which really means something…
Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?
As many others have stated, I’ll be holding off to see how bad the Game-Key issue is going to be in the long run.
Right now only a handful of games appear to get a proper physical release. Hopefully this will improve going forward…

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Switch 2 And Switch 1 Prices Have Been Revealed
Eh, isn’t this just the normal price? It’s the usual 60 plus 10 for the new gen patch.
If this makes you “pleasantly surprised” you must’ve been bracing for a doom scenario…

Re: Here's A Look At The Size And Inside Of Switch 2 Game Cases
@Alcea Absolutely true! Game-Keys are a horrible practice and we should keep letting our voice be heard about that.
If you aren’t bothered by them, that’s fine for you, but don’t expect others to swallow this nonsense without a fight.
Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?

Re: Super Mario World Looks To Be The Official Name Of The Next Mario Movie
Just name it The Super Mario Movie again with a subtitle… Giving it the exact same name as the game is going to cause inconveniences.
Re: Limited Run's Switch 2 Numbered Releases Will Reportedly Include The "Full Game On The Cartridge"
Well, their entire business concept would be pointless if the game isn’t on the card. Game Keys are not a physical release after all.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Intended To Continue Bayonetta With Another Trilogy
I've enjoyed all three games, but the last one was starting to show some cracks. I think a hiatus would be for the best.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Mario Party 3
Not really fond of any of them. They’re a bit overcrowded.

@GrailUK I don’t think they will struggle to break even with the production costs, especially at the current asking price for a physical copy. If anything, there’s probably a very wide profit margin included.
Re: Here's A Look At The Back Of Mario Kart World's Switch 2 Box Art
They should include a manual again. Then the high physical price would at least make a bit more sense as well.

Re: Nintendo Defends Switch 2's Perceived Lack Of Innovation
Unpopular opinion it seems, but I certainly hope for something fresh and exciting after Switch 2, and not just a Switch “3”.
Re: Gearbox's Randy Pitchford Admits Borderlands 4 Might Follow Nintendo's New Pricing
Bigger isn’t always better. I’d rather have a more condensed, streamlined experience for a regular price than all these “huge games full of content” at a premium rate.
Re: Another Switch 2 "Code-In-Box" Physical Release Appears Online
I am still not over the fact that they don’t include paper manuals anymore.
Re: Yuji Horii Acknowledges Chrono Trigger Remake Requests, Says He's Starting To Contemplate It
Why not just release the original game on NSO or in the eShop?
Re: Rumour: Donkey Kong Bananza May Include A Local Multiplayer Component
I don’t expect much of it. It will probably be something useless like in Pikmin 4 or Mario Odyssey.
Re: Nintendo Expects To Sell 15 Million Switch 2 Consoles This Financial Year
15 million hardware units sounds plausible. But I expect the software attach rate is going to see a major decline.
Re: Split Fiction Surpasses 4 Million Copies Sold Ahead Of Switch 2 Launch
Such a big publisher really has no excuse to not provide a proper physical release.
Re: Tales Of The Shire Physical Release Announced For Switch, Pre-Orders Live
It’s a relief to see a game getting a proper physical release again for a change.
Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?
My purchasing habits will see a huge decline due to:
1) Game-Keys
2) Price Increases
3) Not a fan of many modern gaming trends
Re: Former Assassin's Creed Lead Isn't Happy About Switch 2's Game-Key Cards
