Re: Feature: These Past 8 Years Have Been A Privilege

sleepinglion

Privilege... compared with other console cycles, I do feel privileged to have been part of the NES and SNES customer bases. But not Switch. It may be the Nintendo console I've played the least in my lifetime. Were it not for Zelda titles, I'd have barely spent any time with it

Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online

sleepinglion

Nintendo generally refuses to offer its classic titles in any kind of compilation to buy. After the Wii U and 3DS, it stoped allowing fans to purchase them digitally by abandoning the VC service. Now they only offer them with their online service and attack anyone who turns to emulation, which fewer would do could they legitimately buy these older titles. The solution is Nintendo Online with the option to purchase titles you really enjoy. But, you know, that makes up too much sense

Re: Nintendo Lawyer Breaks Down What Makes An Emulator Illegal

sleepinglion

Emulation is an incredible tool for folks who want to have their entire retro libraries in one place, but folks shouldn't be emulating current gen. Piracy isn't Nintendo's doing, but if they managed to ever make a current gen system that was actually current gen, it would be nearly impossible to emulate properly during the current gen. The Switch, for instance, doesn't require a powerful PC to emulate, because it's just not a powerhouse system

Re: Random: Metroid Prime 4 'OG' Amazon Pre-Orders Are Being Cancelled

sleepinglion

I did pre-order from Amazon way back in the 2010's. At the time, they were offering a discount on all video game pre-orders for Prime customers. It must not have been a profitable move for them, they ditched that amazing perk pretty quick. It was a source of stubborn pride holding onto that one mighty old pre-order, I'm sorry to see Amazon throw in the towel and admit they have no idea when it's coming

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Has Been Added To The Official Timeline

sleepinglion

@Ultimapunch I agree. I was a kid when the franchise was brand new. Back then, my friends and I never talked about game order. By the time we got to ALTTP on SNES, it was clear these were a different Link and Zelda, almost as if over time the main characters will re-emerge to fight a never ending battle. We kind of just went with it. I think game order matters in direct sequels only. I wish the official timeline wasn't a thing, but appreciate others enjoy it

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give LEGO Horizon Adventures?

sleepinglion

@koffing You bring up some great points. I'm with you on the script, it's super weak, but I am glad your kiddo is enjoying it. As an adult, there didn't seem to be much here for whereas other Lego titles like Star Wars - The Skywalker Saga I thoroughly enjoyed. Perhaps if this title sells well, there will be an adaptation of Forbidden West that corrects a lot of this titles mistakes

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give LEGO Horizon Adventures?

I'm a few hours in and, man, is it ever average. Visually, it's great, but the gameplay itself offers very little variety. There's no collectibles to find. No red bricks to unlock the usual cheat codes. It feels like a lackluster effort. The script isn't funny. Hearing these characters act as if they've downed a bag of sugar is weird, having played and enjoyed the regular Horizon titles. Still unsure who this is for. A Lego game based on a longer running video game property like Zelda, for example, would have been a lot more fun. At this price point, wait for the inevitable 'permanent sale' price all Lego games have with time

Re: Review: The Karate Kid: Street Rumble (Switch) - A Great-Looking, Offline-Only, Co-op Brawler

sleepinglion

I love the franchise which is the only thing that makes this stand out amidst a sea of similar retro brawlers. Sadly, they didn't adapt any of the Karate Kid music. No chiptunes from the soundtracks, no film score pieces. The franchise has an actual orchestral theme that's nowhere to be found here. Visuals alone can't save this one, as fun as they are. Having played through it, I'd give it a 6

Re: Review: Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (Switch) - Speed-Focused And Slight, But Addictive

sleepinglion

Having finally gotten some time with the title, I do enjoy it, but it feels more like a 19.99 game. Presentation is nice, but the game selection is pretty limited, especially when Nintendo could easily add more of their own titles like Rad Racer and Urban Champion. Games themselves have no bells and whistles. No box or manual scans. Some retro commercials could have been a fun inclusion, unlockable with coins. It could have been a love letter to those classic titles but feels more like a salad bar where you don't get to eat anything beyond some samples. The deluxe set has some great pins, but even the box art cards seem to have missed the mark. The art doesn't even occupy the entire card, there's an off-center white border, and not having the back of the card show the back of the box feels pretty lazy. I see the addicting appeal for sure, and folks will have a lot of fun with it, but there also seem to be some areas that could have easily been bolstered with minimal effort
