Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Actraiser

@MisanthropyAGoGo Than you, I found your reply very helpful. At the time, I thought I was being too hard on the game... but all that added tower defense stuff really grinds gameplay and the story to a complete halt. I also felt the new visual style didn't have nearly the same charm as those early sprite-based efforts. At the end of the day, had they just re-released the original with widescreen support or something, that would have been enough for me

They're both not too hot, but I grew up with the NA box.
Love this title and had high hoped for the recent HD version, but man... I couldn't even finish the thing. Way too much tower defense, not enough arcade action. Rather bland visual style. I'm with the original all the way

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch Rating Surfaces Online

@RobynAlecksys I completely respect your opinion. I enjoyed RDR2. I thought the characters were well written and the world itself was wonderfully rendered. However, Rockstar's quality control can be abysmal. As a Red Dead Online player, there were several updates (back when they were actually updating the game) that broke the world. They'd accidentally turn off all animals or something. Once, and this was hilarious, an update broke the online game in the sense that no one could die. You could leap off the edge of a canyon and walk away from it

Re: Ed Boon Excited To Share What's Next For Mortal Kombat 1

sleepinglion

@Donutman Right on! I like your approach. In recent years I've never picked up a MK game at launch. Eventually, they wind up on perma-sale, even the ultimate editions. I respect that fans who love the series don't wish to wait. I have some like that as well. But I can wait on this one

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch Rating Surfaces Online

RDR2 is a fantastic title and Rockstar does enjoy squeezing all the money it can with re-releases... I'd be interested to see how they'd get it running. I don't envision a full on remaster until the next console cycle, if it gets one at all. Still, if you have a PC and a Steam account, RDR2 is already in heavy discount rotation, well worth a purchase

Re: Excellent Time-Travelling Metroidvania 'Timespinner' Is Getting A Sequel

I've played through the original multiple times and enjoyed it. Initially I was drawn to the art style... absolutely gorgeous pixel art. Nice color palettes as well and interesting music. The gameplay was addictive. All in all a solid title. If you've not yet checked it out, it's old enough to be on sale regularly. Looking forward to the sequel

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC - What Would You Have Liked To See?

sleepinglion

I'm in the small minority of players who had a nice time with Tears, but would have preferred a full on new entry and not a Breath sequel. Yes, we got a sparse sky world and a repetitive underworld... yippee... but the sheer number of recycled assets was staggering with a price bump to boot. I didn't want DLC, I still don't want DLC, I want an actual built from the ground up entry in a fantastic series

Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?

sleepinglion

I grew up in the 80s and 90s and was lucky enough to own most of the games I ever wanted. I cared for them. Every box and manual was in pristine condition. Foolishly, as new consoles began to come out and emulation on PC and Mac was growing solid for older titles, I sold them. NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis, etc., all in flawless condition to stores that often paid me just a few bucks per game. Had I known those oldies, especially the NES titles, would be so valuable today, I never would have parted with them. Though, to be fair, I wouldn't have likely sold them as an adult

Re: Talking Point: Will You Pay $50 For Red Dead Redemption On Switch?

sleepinglion

This is a lazy port that Rockstar has farmed out to a studio that doesn't have a solid track record for quality.
This game is 13 years old and will arrive with no enhancements, no tweaks, no quality of life improvements the sequel benefits from. Unless you're desperate to play this one, I'd say wait for the inevitable discount after it debuts as a buggy mess. If it weren't 50 bucks, it would earn less ridicule, but for what you're getting, this should be 20 tops

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch

sleepinglion

@LikeWhoa I'm with you. The Run style is just another version of the "New" SMB look which has kept every side-scrolling Mario title looking nearly identical for years. Generally, they add animations and increase textures/detail etc. with each new console, but if you cut together clips from the past several titles, someone unfamiliar with the series would say they all look like the same game
