I can see these models appealing to folks who do not yet own a Switch... but for me to spend that much on 'we made it red'... no. It's kinda lazy. Funko does the same thing with a lot of its Pops. "Look, we took the existing model and... made it a single primary color! Money, please."
@RobynAlecksys I completely respect your opinion. I enjoyed RDR2. I thought the characters were well written and the world itself was wonderfully rendered. However, Rockstar's quality control can be abysmal. As a Red Dead Online player, there were several updates (back when they were actually updating the game) that broke the world. They'd accidentally turn off all animals or something. Once, and this was hilarious, an update broke the online game in the sense that no one could die. You could leap off the edge of a canyon and walk away from it
@Donutman Right on! I like your approach. In recent years I've never picked up a MK game at launch. Eventually, they wind up on perma-sale, even the ultimate editions. I respect that fans who love the series don't wish to wait. I have some like that as well. But I can wait on this one
Ah, just the beginning. I respect that the current model is base game and then loads of DLC... but I do miss the days of 'game come out, game done, enjoy game'
RDR2 is a fantastic title and Rockstar does enjoy squeezing all the money it can with re-releases... I'd be interested to see how they'd get it running. I don't envision a full on remaster until the next console cycle, if it gets one at all. Still, if you have a PC and a Steam account, RDR2 is already in heavy discount rotation, well worth a purchase
I've played through the original multiple times and enjoyed it. Initially I was drawn to the art style... absolutely gorgeous pixel art. Nice color palettes as well and interesting music. The gameplay was addictive. All in all a solid title. If you've not yet checked it out, it's old enough to be on sale regularly. Looking forward to the sequel
Target is where I picked up Tears of the Kingdom on release day. I didn't pre-order or anything, just came in early and walked out with Tears and a Zelda fanny pack I'll never use, but it was a nice bonus
I'm in the small minority of players who had a nice time with Tears, but would have preferred a full on new entry and not a Breath sequel. Yes, we got a sparse sky world and a repetitive underworld... yippee... but the sheer number of recycled assets was staggering with a price bump to boot. I didn't want DLC, I still don't want DLC, I want an actual built from the ground up entry in a fantastic series
I wanted to love the movie, and it had potential, but the soundtrack was just the worst. Hoping any game based upon it doesn't assume we want all rap all the time
I tried the demo and was seriously underwhelmed, but the reviews have been so stellar that I dove in and picked it up. Turns out this game is amazing. I was still less than thrilled with the level from the demo when I got to it in the actual game, but yeah, everything else has been pretty solid
@Teksetter Sweet! Thanks, man. Ever since Zen went the cheap route and didn't put Back to the Future music in their Back to the Future table, I've been cautious
Not super impressive, especially when so many of the clips are from iconic fantasy films. I mean, okay effort... but original footage would have been more welcome
I wouldn't risk a Switch on it, but I've had luck using my Steam Deck with off-brand docks. I like the aesthetic here and appreciate what they're trying to do. It is regrettable that Nintendo doesn't often exploit the money making potential in official items like this outside of some very cool GBA and 3DS variants
I avoided the franchise for years because Westerns weren't my thing, but picked up RDR2 during a Playstation Store sale and really loved it. I hope to go back and experience RDR1 when it's on sale, but not at 50
A 13 year-old game priced at 50 dollars SHOULD run pretty darn well on a current console. What makes this newsworthy is Rockstar botched their GTA Trilogy so badly that folks are giving them a gold star for a functional release
I grew up in the 80s and 90s and was lucky enough to own most of the games I ever wanted. I cared for them. Every box and manual was in pristine condition. Foolishly, as new consoles began to come out and emulation on PC and Mac was growing solid for older titles, I sold them. NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis, etc., all in flawless condition to stores that often paid me just a few bucks per game. Had I known those oldies, especially the NES titles, would be so valuable today, I never would have parted with them. Though, to be fair, I wouldn't have likely sold them as an adult
@Lightsiyd I never got it, either, until I played RDR2 and totally loved it. I scoffed at the franchise for years because I'm not a Western fan, but the story and characters pulled me in. Never played RDR 1, though, but I hear good things
Still a hard pass. The game will sell well and Rockstar will learn nothing. If it gets some solid reviews, I will absolutely pick it up during an inevitable deep discount sometime in the future
Buy it if you want. Don't buy it if you don't want to. This is Rockstar laziness and greed, which sadly, could be their company motto for the past several years. That was corporate speak. Meaningless PR. Most companies have the good sense not to charge that much for such an old title that is a straight port
How does it compare to the last-gen version? Dudes, this IS the last gen version. It may benefit slightly from the Switch and PS4's capabilities, but this port will be as lazy as it gets
This is a lazy port that Rockstar has farmed out to a studio that doesn't have a solid track record for quality. This game is 13 years old and will arrive with no enhancements, no tweaks, no quality of life improvements the sequel benefits from. Unless you're desperate to play this one, I'd say wait for the inevitable discount after it debuts as a buggy mess. If it weren't 50 bucks, it would earn less ridicule, but for what you're getting, this should be 20 tops
@Pickettfury That is interesting. I agree, they need more people. While Majora's Mask did use some of Ocarina's models, the world was new. Not 25% new. All the way new. Knowing how infrequently we score new main Zelda titles, it was a bummer to see the new one, well, look a load like the last one with a sparse sky world and a repetitive underworld
Well, that oughta teach 'em what happens when you recycle most of the previous game's assets without building a new title from the ground up... money. Lots of it
At least it's not a statue that recycles 75% of a previous statue and still charges you more for the 25% additional content, I mean, sculpting, additional sculpting
@LikeWhoa I'm with you. The Run style is just another version of the "New" SMB look which has kept every side-scrolling Mario title looking nearly identical for years. Generally, they add animations and increase textures/detail etc. with each new console, but if you cut together clips from the past several titles, someone unfamiliar with the series would say they all look like the same game
@VioletSword I'd defend the NES. Anyone with a basic knowledge of video game history knows its importance and influence, the genres it helped establish and all that jazz. I think what you're experiencing sounds like how I felt, though, when every other day was a Fortnite article. I couldn't have cared less. So I get it, but Nintendolife will always cover the NES, even if it is old, especially at anniversary milestones
@VioletSword The NES revived the video game market after it crashed and burned in the early 80s. Modern gaming owes its survival to Nintendo. This system will not go away, but hey, you don't have to read or comment on these articles
I've always wanted Golden Axe to return to its side-scrolling roots with the benefit of modern tech. Would settle for Revenge of Death Adder finally scoring a port
@Sisilly_G Exactly. They passed at the chance to revisit earlier 3D attempts in actual 3D. As a kid, my first Nintendo 3D title was Rad Racer. It came with flimsy 3D glasses and everything that totally didn't work. That title would have made a more sensical 3D classics entry. But they couldn't because, you know, they're in love with Urban Champion. Virtual Boy releases could have found a fantastic home on the console, especially if they went back and colorized them as a gameplay option
