The launch of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is drawing ever nearer – we're exactly one week away, in fact – and Nintendo's marketing for the title is starting to ramp up.
Two TV commercials that have begun airing in Japan are currently available to view on YouTube, and you can check them both out for yourself below. There's a shorter 15-second clip featuring the odd bit of gameplay, and a longer ad that includes some of the game's cutscenes (thanks, Siliconera):
The first review for the game has also now arrived thanks to Japanese publication Famitsu, which awarded the game with one of the highest scores it's given out for any Switch game this year. We will, of course, have our very own review for you a little nearer to release.
Feeling the Hyrule Warriors hype? Will you be getting a copy on launch day? Let us know in the comments.

Impressive presentation, like a Disney production. Not too shabby.
If I get Hyrule Warriors, its very motivated by getting botw story. I'm still not sure a warriors game is my thing. In the demo, I didn't like how enemies seemed to spawn out of thin air while I cleared that crowd of enemies. It felt counter productive.
I'm hyped! This will be the game into which I sink many hours during what's looking to be a long winter!
Very glad they kept the option to listen to Japanese dialogue, for those of us who loved the Japanese voice acting in the original BOTW.
I’m astonished that a musou game with shallow gameplay is being hyped because it wears the Zelda mask. Product loyalty is strong, almost like hypnosis.
I will put this on my christmas list. But I'm not amazing at hack an slash so maybe Imma play on easy
@TG16_IS_BAE Or maybe people legitimately like it, and it’s just not your thing?
@TG16_IS_BAE Should I astonish you with the fact that different people like different games? So what seems shallow to you might me a dream for others.
This does not interest me; therefore, I don’t feel that it should be available to those who want it.
@Munchlax @pinta_vodki No, it's definitely brand loyalty. That's why these games are factual garbage. Nobody can really logically say that they like games where the enemies just surround you and watch you, while waiting to be defeated.
@TG16_IS_BAE well some people do, so just let them enjoy it geez. i find dynasty warriors gameplay really satisfying and just because you dont like it, doesnt mean you need to bring down everyone else who is excited to play
@NikHogan Nobody is under my control, so I'm not sure what you are talking about. Almost everybody is blinded by brand loyalty for this game, though. I'm just fascinated to see it in action, right before my eyes. The Nintendo drought is making people thirsty.
@TG16_IS_BAE my god that was one same and lad comment, get a life bucko
@SimonCucho "one same and lad"
Typo? Not familiar with the saying.
I do wish the enemies were a little bit chunkier and more reactive, like some of the more hectic skirmishes in Nier: Automata. However, as someone who doesn't like the Warriors formula, I do think Age of Calamity tries to switch it up by making the cannon fodder surround stronger, more aggresive adversaries, which are your real rivals across the map. That helps the battles remain engaging. It's not going to keep From Software and Platinum Games up at night, but, from the demo, the third-person action was enjoyable enough, and the adventure is narratively-driven to a pleasing degree — though, I guess, that means the narrative will have to carry a lot of weight here. We'll see how good it is.
@TG16_IS_BAE lol true. im in love with nintedo but not exactly loyal to their brand. i skip out on a lot of their games like fire emblem, kirby, metroid, etc. and i cant deny that this game looks like it has some problems, especially the framerate. yea im not gonna be a nintendo apologist lol
@NikHogan Thank you. Again, if people like it that's great. But I do know a fair bit about the psychology behind brand loyalty, and like I said, it's an amazing and fascinating topic especially when it happens in real-time. I'll just be here with my popcorn.
@TG16_IS_BAE I think people are interested in the story too, given that BoTW hinted at a lot but didn't give much away.
@Grandiajet That's what YouTube is for. Save $60, skip the bad game, watch the story for free.
@TG16_IS_BAE
"If people like what I dislike, it must be because they are corporate fanboy apologists and not because they simply have different interests."
Stop thinking so highly of yourself, buddy.
@TG16_IS_BAE ehhh I just like the warriors series. Been playing them since the PS2. Unfortunately they’ve gotten a little easy over the years.
@TG16_IS_BAE Shallow gameplay isn't the same as bad gameplay. Lots of media is shallow but can also be fun.
I personally find there is a nice rhythm to these games. It's the same with Diablo games.You can just switch off and enjoy yourself.
@JustMe Dude, that went really well with the tuna. Thanks.
@TG16_IS_BAE, to be fair the games are more about completing various objectives around the battlefield such as taking out tougher named enemies, taking control of forts, gallivanting halfway across the map to save a weak ally, all in an effort to slowly take control of the battlefield over the course of the mission, moreso than taking out the mooks themselves (though it's in your interest to take them out to build up your special gauges between main objectives if you need to, or for high score chasing).
I think the main Dynasty (& Samurai) lines even have a morale system, which affects how dangerous the mooks are (especially to your forts), which goes up & down depending on how effectively you can deal with timed objectives that pop up all over the map, giving them a much more strategic edge.
@TG16_IS_BAE it's not being completly hyped because zelda, it's also a good game and really cool that this game confirms we have a botw trilogy, the first in TLOZ history
@RR529 I've played 'em, and you're right. For me, I found it to feel like busy-work.
@TheSmashTheorist It's 100% being hyped for being Zelda, I've never seen a musou game get talked about this much, and it's the same garbage that they are renowned for.
I love how some people with an elitist mindset like to dictate what people can and can’t like.
Guess what? I actually enjoyed Hyrule Warriors, genuine love for the game. Playing as all the different Zelda characters was refreshing and strengthening them/unlocking new abilities also kept me interested.
Musou games aren’t for everyone, but name one game that is for everyone. People need to get off their high horse and let people enjoy what they enjoy.
@TG16_IS_BAE
What about the Persona Musou game. Weren't people hyped for that?
@BongoBongo123 because persona to the switch thats why it was 'hype'
@TheSmashTheorist It didn't release on Switch as far as I know?
@BongoBongo123 Again, brand loyalty. Persona on switch, so people drool. But it's musou so it ends up being meh, like the others. I was hyped for the Berserk musou, then got bored after 11 minutes. I learned my lesson, lol.
@TheSmashTheorist Oh my bad, it released on Switch and PS4.
@Mushvision The elitists are the brand loyalists, who blindly lap up the next thing that says "Mario" "Zelda" "Pokemon" without questioning it's quality.
@TG16_IS_BAE Pretty sure gundam warriors is the most hyped warriors spinoff I’ve seen over the last two decades.
@faint That's saying something, because it hasn't even sold past 275,000 copies, according to wikipedia at least.
@TG16_IS_BAE I’m a Zelda fan who likes Zelda games, what more can I say? Don’t throw around the term “brand loyalist” so casually because even I can see when Nintendo does something wrong.
You’re taking a game you have no interest in (which is fine btw) and saying that anyone does like it is WRONG and a “brand loyalist” (which isn’t fine, because you’re forcing your opinion as fact)
Not sure if you’re a troll or you just have a big ego, but people are allowed to have different interests to you, you do know that right?
Yes, I’m buying Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity because it’s Zelda themed, but I also genuinely enjoyed the first Hyrule Warriors.
And no, I didn’t just enjoy Hyrule Warriors because it was Zelda-themed, I enjoyed it for the gameplay as well as the content.
So, I don’t know what Koei Tecmo or Nintendo have done to you personally, but please just let people enjoy things, without questioning why they like them.
I’m not being hostile or defending Nintendo or KT, I’m just merely making you aware that people can like things without being a “brand loyalist”
@Mushvision I never expressed my interest for this game, for or against as it's not relevant to the topic. Just fascinated by the amount of brand loyalty associated with it. The Nintendogs continue to lap up the next thing with their favorite label on it, with no regard to quality. Never questioning is a terrible thing. We are allowed to talk about things we don't like. People can be content buying whatever garbage they want, I'm not trying to stop anybody, just pointing out how silly it is.
@TG16_IS_BAE Maybe I’m missing something, but I didn’t see figures for Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 1, 2, or 3. No PlayStation, Xbox, PC or mobile figures.
@faint I may have looked up the wrong game, all that came up when I searched was an article regarding a 2007 PS3 game.

Anyone else notice the Nintendo preorder confirmation email said:
Estimated Release Date: 11/19/2020
@TG16_IS_BAE Yeah, if you read my comment it was about you baselessly calling people “brand loyalists” for something you dislike.
It’s perfectly fine with you talking about something you dislike, I never said it wasn’t. It’s the pushing of your opinion on others which is what people aren’t okay with.
Instead of dictating what people should and shouldn’t buy, just explain why the game isn’t for you, without the need to name call.
I don’t like FIFA, for example, but I’m not telling people they’re brand loyalists or dogs because they enjoy it. I just get on with my own life and find enjoyment in my own likes.
Anyway, I’m done now. You’ll still continue to call people Nintendogs and brand loyalists, because that’s just who you are. So I’ll just take a step back, let you be you and go back to doing my own thing.
@Mushvision That makes my life easier, thank you so much.
@TG16_IS_BAE You’re welcome
Looking forward to this! Pretty much rounding out my holiday along with Sakuna. Sakuna is sooo good y’all.
That reminds me that I need to max out my characters on the demo though...
@TG16_IS_BAE Yeah the warriors game is nothing special, im happy to see the story of BOTW 0 but i would rather see it in litterally any other genre.
BUT for those who enjoy musou games you have to admit this is a dream come true.
@pixelpatch That’s a very good point.
@TG16_IS_BAE
.... Uhm... from a psychological perspective, that sounds like confirmation bias
Remember that in psychology, there's rarely just one explanation that fits everybody
@danemord Who said I was trying to fit everybody into one description? I’m finding examples that fit, and examples that don’t.
I feel like I'm in a real-life warriors game... @TG16_IS_BAE is the main character, and he's battling all the rest of the comment section alone.
@BongoBongo123 yep persona 5 scramble in japan but you can order it on amazon
@TG16_IS_BAE You ever thought about just, you know, letting it go? You don't need to post 400 comments about your disdain and how everyone who's interested is just a brown noser. It's....well it's kind of sad. Have you not got other things you can do or are you just gonna derail this comment section?
People like different things. Mad I know.
@DAHstroy this comment section is his version of Hyrule Warriors. Instead of hammering buttons on his joycon he's hammering his keyboard.
@TG16_IS_BAE
By that logic, no PlayStation series is good, it's just "brand loyalty". 🙄 What a ridiculous, nonsense point. Its okay if you don't like this series but some people do.
@KryptoniteKrunch It applies to any brand. Brand loyalty means you will buy the thing, no matter what, because you like the brand. It's the strongest reason for sales in any field.
@DAHstroy That's essentially how I feel, swatting away all these mindless Nintendog-bots. I still haven't leveled, though, gotta camp for another few thousand XP.
@WiltonRoots
Don't expect a meaningful response from the written embodiment of the Principle Skinner "Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong" meme.
@westman98 Nice to get educated by the bastion of truth isn't it? Hahahahaha
I enjoyed the demo so I’m likely to pick this one up. Wasn’t interested in the first HW for various reasons but this one seems interesting
Always funny to see people say how awful Nintendo fans are when it's always the diehard PlayStation and PC crowds that are the toxic ones. Not to mention you hop on Push square and you don't see a bunch of Nintendo fans being toxic.
@TG16_IS_BAE ...so, you're saying that people who genuinely like the Warriors games don't exist?
@Calamity244 Not at all, why?
@TG16_IS_BAE "I’m astonished that a musou game with shallow gameplay is being hyped because it wears the Zelda mask. Product loyalty is strong, almost like hypnosis."
