Update (Wed 15th Jul, 2020 09:30 BST): Good news! The free DLC, known as the 'Over 1 Million Sold Celebration! I LOVE GAMES' pack, has also been distributed to a number of other regions around the world including Europe and Australia. If you own a copy of the game, make sure to check the eShop in your region to see if you can claim the free songs.
Original Article (Mon 6th Jul, 2020 14:30 BST): Bandai Namco has revealed that Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum'n'Fun has now sold one million copies worldwide. The figure includes both digital sales and physical shipments.
The company shared the news on social media, also confirming that Japanese players can expect to enjoy a new DLC pack to celebrate the newly-achieved milestone. Available for free on 9th July, the pack will feature songs from a number of other titles (thanks Gematsu):
- “Boku no → Chikyuu Bokura no Chikyuu” from Mr. Driller DrillLand
- “Moji Pittan Medley” from Kotoba no Puzzle: Moji Pittan
- “Katamari On the Rocks Main Theme” from Katamari Damacy
- “No Way Back” from God Eater
- “The Arrow Was Shot” from Tales of the Abyss
- “In the Zone” from Ace Combat X2: Joint Assault
- “Brave Sword, Braver Soul” from Soulcalibur II
- “Karma (Tatsujin Mix)” from Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion
- “Namcot Medley”
- “Tanoshii Taiko Dojo”
That's not all, though, because a larger update is also planned to launch this later this year which will add an eSports tournament mode. Here, eight players can compete in a bracket-style tournament, and it will also include a Spectator Mode for those who want to watch songs in action.

Wow, that's awesome! I'm glad I have the Japanese physical cart. But hopefully they release these free songs globally.... This game is so good it deserves to reach such a milestone. I've been enjoying Usagi No Shippo. Hope they keep adding songs from older titles. There's still a number of great songs from the various DS games that I'd love to have in the Switch version.
I can’t wait for the tournament mode! My sister and I love this game so I can’t wait!
I have the game with the drum controller and whilst it's fun for a bit, it's never really held my attention as well as some other rhythm games. Might go back to it if the free songs release globally though.
I didn't realise the game was so popular!
I'm honestly still kinda waiting for a western physical version, but all these free songs seem pretty cool
@mrmememan The drum and game were both released physically in Europe and the game standalone in Australia.
It was my go-to rhythm game on Switch until Project DIVA came along, but I've appreciated the amount of effort they've put in to this version. The updates and dlc have been a nice addition!
I have the Japanese version and getting dlc has always been a bit of a faff, so this will be great for me
@mrmememan : Based on the supported languages in the U.S. version compared to the European version, any DLC downloaded for the game via the U.S. eShop should be compatible with the European/Australian physical releases. Don't take this as a guarantee, but evidence strongly suggests that it should if you decide to import a European copy.
While the Japanese/Asian versions were updated to support English, you will need a separate Japanese NNID in order to download DLC for these particular versions of the game as they are not considered to be the same software as the Western releases.
Never been one for rhythm games, but I bought it on sale a few months ago just for the absurdity of seeing Kirby dance to Evangelion's "A Cruel Angel's Thesis", and it's been worth it.
I can't handle much beyond the first two difficulty settings, but it's a fun game to return to from time to time.
I've played the demo and loved the game. I'm now awaiting a nice discount so that I can purchase it.
@Silly_G @BenAV Oh thanks! I was going just get the cheaper of whatever version, but this makes me want the European version. At the very least even if I don't end up getting the European physical version, I can absolutely still get the Drum controller from any region.
I got this on sale back in November and have since bought DLC and an imported Drum Controller.
Yeah, it's a pretty great game.
The 4-player party rhythm games are also awesome.
Katamari on the Rocks!! I so need to get round to this, I adore rhythm games but the demo kicked my arse and I haven’t picked up the full game. I really need Kirby dancing to the Evangelion theme in my life though.
@Silly_G someone I know from the US tried it but it does not work, just like with all Switch (and PS/Xbox games) the DLC is bound to the region your copy is from.
@Rayquaza2510 : Did they try it with the European or the Japanese version?
@Silly_G EU one of course
I'm so happy this game is as popular as it is, it's so good
I really enjoy watching the YouTube videos of folk smashing this out the park. My eyes can't keep up.
Please more free songs, yes
DON for Smash Bros!
I and my youngest certainly enjoyed it.
Is it better than Donkey Konga were with it's bongo drums?
10% playing the game.
90% trying to get the latency with my telly working.
YO! Soul Calibur II is getting some love here! Remember when that game was getting an HD remake on PlayStation and Xbox, but not the Wii U? Guess they realized there's no point if it's not the version that sold the most, which had Link in it.
Glad it did. This game is awesome. A truly “hidden gem”
Man, I truly need to get the drum controller. Any suggestions on where to get it for a fair price? The good one, not the Chinese knock-offs.
Love this game; it’s one of my most played on switch. It’s wild to go from Dragon ball theme to Evangelion to Ghibli to Undertale to Splatoon to Miku and now Katamari Damacy! This game’s soundtrack is so impressive and there’s always new music coming. Only game I’ve bought more DLC for is Rock Band. I’m glad it’s selling well.
