Mario Kart Tour's next update will add the option for players to enjoy the game in landscape mode as well as portrait mode, Nintendo has revealed.
Since the game launched last September, Mario Kart Tour has been a portrait-exclusive affair. This newly announced landscape option helps the game to look a little more at home with the series' console editions, as you can see in the new trailer above.
Nintendo notes that the landscape mode will include "a new control layout", so if you weren't keen on the game's controls at launch, it might be worth jumping for another go when this update lands to see if it feels any more comfortable. You won't have long to wait either, as the update will arrive tomorrow, 21st July.
Earlier this month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company's mobile operations remain a "significant" part of its business.

Might finally give it a go. Will definitely play if they add controller support.
New control method sounds interesting.
This might get me to reinstall it. I liked having a short go once in a while, but couldn't get behind the portrait mode.
@HobbitGamer Same here. It was uncomfortable, not precise and couldn't see a thing while turning.
Will give this a try - liked the idea of the game but hated the portrait mode and the control method.
It`s been 74 years.
This is way better, should have been there from the start. I'll give it another go tomorrow.
-digs a hole and whispers- “mobile phone based games are rubbish!“
@DoktorTotenKopf I’ve been replaying the Layton games on mobile and they’re just as good as ever.
Bloody hell. Well, that took them long enough.
I might actually give it a go now just to see the tracks, but considering that it's a scummy F2S game with no option for an outright purchase, I would also be perfectly content with carrying on as if this never existed.
It would be neat if they issued a standalone/complete retail/digital edition of the game on Switch to tide us over until Mario Kart 9 hits.
Add controller support and while you are doing that, add Apple TV support as well.
Been awhile since I uninstalled this game. This is nice but have they added multiplayer mode yet?
@Grot I’ll stick with the DS/3DS sets, thanks.
Maybe I will give it a second chance then.
Wahoooo. Love the update
Wish they would stop doing stuff for this (yes I know it makes them money) and get on with Mariokart 9.
I'm guessing they aren't bothered as 8 Deluxe is still in the charts, surely everyone with a switch has that game by now?
@Grot oh man, I've missed the fact that the original Layton games have come out on mobile. Thought it was only the Katrielle one. Gotta certainly give it a go, since I've only played the first one on an emulator. iPhone should be much more comfortable.
I don't play this alone typically, but I have been having fun playing with my brother online since he doesn't own any consoles to where we could actually play a full Mario Kart game. I just wish they'd make it so you can select your courses instead of having to play whatever the game gives you.
It is kind of fun to just get online with my brother and sort of shoot the breeze while we're racing though. I'd love to do it in a real console game, but he doesn't want to shell out the money.
I still play this quite abit and look forward to this update.... It's great to play a quick few races on..
Hopefully it will support Gamevice controller attachment. (I know it has a lawsuit with Nintendo, still it provides a tactile button controls for mobile phones, giving it a PS vita feel).
And KartRider Rush+ finally have a serious competitor!
@pinta_vodki They are absolutely stunning on mobile. They updated all the graphics to HD and the difference between playing on DS and on a big, beautiful mobile screen is night and day. I play on my iPad and it’s just an amazing experience.
@DoktorTotenKopf I own the entire series on DS and 3DS. Huge fan. But the HD remasters on mobile blow them away - much better experience. Level-5 did a fantastic job.
My real point was, there are quality experiences on mobile that are equal to or better than console experiences. There are scummy shovelware titles on all platforms. Making a broad stroke on mobile game quality just doesn’t apply anymore.
It’s a decent time killer when I don’t have my Switch.... but not worth paying for
Nintendo's blessing and curse is that it has to do things differently. Sometimes that gives us things like the Switch and Splatoon, other times it gives us Zip-Lash and a racing game in selfie orientation.
Took them long enough to add the option.
Let me tell you...
...this game is FANTASTIC!!!
Honestly. I've played it from September, daily, right up until today. A really, fun game with so many tracks and characters. If you played it at launch and dropped it, try it again and you'll be surprised just how much content the game has...and the content switches up every two weeks.
@sanderev my guess is that ain’t happening bc they want you to buy the full version of MK8D or hopefully Mk9 relatively soon
@rockodoodle yeah.. but it could help the mobile version. But you are of course correct. Putting the mobile game on the Apple TV clearly rivals the Switch game. Since, especially with Apple Arcade, the Apple TV is almost a game console. (and even more powerful than the Switch, it does handle 4K gaming without much trouble)
@sanderev Apple Arcade looks pretty cool. I will eventually try it out. Speaking of controllers, the main thing holding me back is that I don't have an Xbox controller with Bluetooth. Do you have any suggestions or alternatives?
@rockodoodle you can also use a MFI controller (those are expensive) or a PS4 controller.
Or how about you focus on a real Mario Kart game, Nintendo?
And of course they won't add Gamepad support.
beyond being freemium BS, the controls were TERRIBLE. I don't even know how people play it
Never had an issue with the controls but this new one looks interesting.
Landscape and gamepad would make this game way more fun! Now if they can just make 200cc free...
@Dawn-Shade
It has been months since this game has multiplayer with other nearby mobiles and online
Good this game can be more accessible now
Love this game, level 96 player!
