The latest tour has arrived in Mario Kart Tour, adding new characters, a new course, and a whole new theme.
With the Wild West Tour now all wrapped up, it's time for the Pirate Tour to take over. This new event introduces King Bob-Omb and Bowser Jr. (Pirate), which we suppose are a little more traditional than some of the new characters appearing in Nintendo's other mobile effort, Dr. Mario World.
The new tour also brings with it the Airship Fortress course first found in Mario Kart DS. Every track has its fans, and we're sure there are plenty who'll enjoy speeding around this one once more.
Do you regularly play Mario Kart Tour on your mobile? Have you been enjoying it more since the new control layout was introduced? Tell us below.

I wish Mario Kart on Switch would get equally amount of love..
I'd even pay microtransactions for it on Switch
I'd kill for some Kart 8 DLC. Cant be bothered with the phone one.
Why does it seem Mario Kart Tour and Super Dr Mario are allowed to have more creative and unique characters than Paper Mario? :-/ I really don't get it.
And yet no Bowsette? For shame!
This should be new MK8 content.
@WoomyNNYes Same here. I'm losing a lot of respect for the Mariokart series
Please stop and give the attention to a proper MK entry. The unending updates to this half hearted cash grab attempt, upsets me. I would pay GREATLY for MK8 dlc at the very least. A MK9 would be even better. Please Nintendo, cut it out.
Mario Kart Tour is currently the best roster in the whole series, shame that it is restricted to a mobile phone, and the reason for so many cool characters is that people are paying money by the hundreds for them.
Disappointed...
...by the fact that MK8 has been sitting unplayed on my Switch b/c I'd already played the heck out of it on the WiiU.
We've never gone longer in-between updates to the MK series, which is my favorite (and no, the frustrating to control phone game doesn't count).
MK8 could use some love and DLC...right about 3 years ago!
Not surprised to see all the negative comments here about how this game is getting support and 8 Deluxe isn't.
Who's to say we won't see 9 on Switch with some of the additions from Tour, like the all new characters to the series?
This game even has Dixie Kong and Monty Mole. Fantastic!
@WoomyNNYes or how about Mk9?
I love this game and it’s combo system
@victordamazio that's pretty funny. I have played just a little and have not paid for anything. There are tons of characters and cars that I want, but it would cost a fortune to get the cool ones. Obviously most of the free ones are pretty lame like baby Mario and Luigi.
I’ve been waiting for Pirate Bowser Jr, it’s about time he made an appearance somewhere.
It's downloaded on my phone but I barwly play it. Just bring Diddy Kong to Switch's MK8 Deluxe already.
I find it so weird that this game is getting all these characters, yet the one who has been denied a slot in the series at least twice so far.. Kamek.. has yet to see his shot even in this shoddy gacha version.
Not that him being added will get me to actually start playing this game, mind you. I just find it weird. Maybe it's just me.
Whatever the case, I'll keep hoping for all these characters and costumes to also make it into the next non-mobile, non-arcade Mario Kart. So, the Switch or Switch successor's Mario Kart game.
@1UP_MARIO Coming from a Mario Kart veteran that has been playing since the original SNES release, Mario Kart Tour has become surprisingly addictive and content-driven, and you don't have to spend a single dollar to do decently well in it, though sometimes the luck factor outweighs the skill factor. The controls are abhorrent, but turning on Smart Steering and getting the feel for drifting helps to balance it out. It is very easy to see the combo system becoming an optional component of future Mario Kart games; it feels very Tony Hawk-esque and like a natural fit for the series. Going back to Mario Kart 8 almost feels boring in comparison, though the driving and wins are way more satisfying in Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart Tour is absolutely the proof-of-concept and quality-of-life improvement for future Mario Kart iterations, though the free-to-play/gacha aspect will probably not make it to a console release, which is a good thing.
To those saying they’re disappointed that MK8 hasn’t been updated: Nintendo doesn’t need to touch it.
It’s the best-selling game on Switch. Any concepts they have are all going to be put into a future release, not wasted on a game that is as old as this.
This is insane. Tour has all the cool retro tracks which have been updated and look wonderful, but the gameplay/gacha sucks big time.
Random characters added? Cool, more options; I'm down with it.
I wish MK8 would get more DLC or something, or maybe a new entry. I'm really liking some of the decisions they made for retro tracks and how they look in general.
@Yosher Kamek will probably come some time in the future, FE Heroes is 3.5 years old and is still getting new content so I'd imagine Mario Kart Tour will continue being supported for years to come.
@Grumblevolcano Yeah I believe Kamek will get in at one point too, it's just weird how certain characters like King Bob-Omb get added before him, is all.
@rockodoodle MK9 would be acceptable. I'd prefer mk9, but have given up on mk9 coming to the switch.
@WoomyNNYes No, it shouldn't. Mario Kart Tour gets a lot of characters because it's a gacha game and mobile games are constantly updated as live service games to maintain interest and spend. Mario Kart 8 DX don't need this as you can see for the sales of the game. All ideas Nintendo has for MK will and should be going on Mario Kart 10, which probably is on next gen.
@Nemesis666 if they want to stretch out the life span of the Switch, they need more big selling games. Mk8d isn't going to sell like this forever. I'd imagine half of the people who own it, if not 2/3, are burned out on it by now and obviously are ready for fresh content.
considering that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has gotten nothing in the past 3 years (aside from a BOTW costume for link) I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo was secretly working on the Next Mario Kart Game..
Yes I know it's the best selling game, but the Wii is Nintendo's best selling home console, yet they moved on and made something new...
I predict by the end of the switch's lifespan we will at least ONE new Mario Kart game.
I will never stop being bitter over a mobile game getting more variation in characters than any of the latest Mario Kart entries, or any of them at all for that matter.
I'd rather have King Bob-Omb in Mario Kart 8 than Pink Gold Peach...
@NPC411 I agree it’s definetely pushes more to luck with the frenzy characters. I still own all the mario karts. Played countless hours of Mario kart 8 on the Wii u. I played Mario kart 8 deluxe the least, around 25 hours. It’s hard going back as I really enjoy mktour. I haven’t spent anything but I’ve been lucky.
@NPC411 I am late to the mk tour party bc my phone doesn't have the memory or probably not even the chip to run it smoothly enough.
I recently got an iPad and I am fairly surprised at how fun it is. But yeah, the controls are pretty awful. I like the track selections and the solo run minigames at the end of each cup.
I still feel as tho Nintendo would be making a huge mistake by passing on a proper MK for the Switch. I can't imagine it selling less than 25 million, the way things have been going for other titles. After Xmas, it's not out of the question that the Switch sells 80 million.
@rockodoodle I'm sure your contribution makes sense with how the switch and its software are selling for 3 years. Mario Kart is only per console and for most people in the world, this is a new game as 50 million had no wii u.
@CalTonTheRobot What a reasoning. It's a completely different thing to make a new console and to not make a game. MK8DX is selling as if it's a new game (for a obvious reason) and Nintendo only releases one Mario kart per console, so they obviously aren't going to release Mario Kart 10 on Switch when they can do it on the next console as a launch title.
King Bob-Omb is ALIVE!!!! thought i'd killed him off in 97
Pirate BJ...
Did they run out of ideas?
If only they applied the same kind of effort to MK8 DLC...
@MarcelM I was just about to say that.
Mario Kart Tour is looking more and more like a cynical attempt to condition the masses to accept an incomplete Mario Kart 9 filled with jumbo transactions to inflate profitability and arouse excitement about even the most banal of new content, because God forbid that a product should ship complete nowadays.
An ever-increasing number of FULL PRICED RETAIL GAMES are filled with so-called "microtransactions" (not so micro when they include tiers that double the cost of the base game) and while Nintendo fans once bemoaned DLC, day one patches, paid online, and the like, they are now extremely vocal in effectively demanding that games are not only released in an incomplete state, but also demanding to pay more for temporary digital licenses (to the detriment to physical collectors, where a cartridge is tantamount to owning half of a jigsaw puzzle while renting the rest).
I wonder why this game gets so much hate, can’t you just appreciate that this game gets so many updates. Although, I do think that this game gets one too much love.
Also, MK8D is the best selling game for Nintendo, so why do you want more? Mario Kart Tour is basically the next generation of Mario Kart. 😑
@Nemesis666 I wonder what percentage have owned it for 2 plus years, not to mention those who owned it x2. Bottom line is that new consoles are coming out and competition for entertainment dollars will be fierce. I think Nintendo will want to go to bat with more than remasters and WiiU ports.
@MeowMeowKins Woah bro keep it PG here /s
Frustrating.
its sad to see that their mobile games of all things are the ones they constantly support with content and characters, and the best ones at that. we'd be lucky to even get more alt colors in the next mario kart console game
Everyone who says they need to focus on MK8D or MK9 instead of this mobile junk is completely right. I 100% agree. However, the mobile game is made by an entirely different team than the core Nintendo team that normally makes the Mario Kart games. It's unfortunate but I too wish they'd add more characters and courses in the proper MK entries.
@NessLucas did you mean to @ me? All I said was they must be running out of ideas...
@MeowMeowKins It was a joke.
@AstralSoul I am hoping for that too. IF they want to hold off on MK9 as far as a traditional track racing game then fine. But then I think they should have an open world Kart adventure for the Switch. That would vsell by the gajilions....
@NessLucas oh, okay. You must have a... different sense of humor.
@Nemesis666 they never released a port before... look all I'm saying is expect the unexpected... new games come eventually..
we might not get a new Mario kart and thats fine.. but what I'm saying is.. it's suspicious they haven't made DLC for the deluxe port in the 3 years since It launched.. and since smash dlc is selling like hotcakes, it makes no sense to not make any DLC, if they weren't planning a new Mario kart they would've released DLC for Deluxe 2 years ago..
and with Mario Kart 8 being the first Mario kart to be ported, they are bound to be working on a new game...
again, not saying it's happening this year or the next.. what I am saying is, don't be surprised if a new Mario Kart Gets revealed in a couple of years...
Nintendo is running out of First Parties to use, they got 4 more years left on the console's lifespan...
a sequel to Mario Kart is enviable...
Don't be shocked....
@AstralSoul No, it isn't. The mobile game is developed by the Mario Kart team, with literally the directors being part of the core staff of previous mario kart games, including 7 and 8. They obviously are working on the next game but they also are working on updates of MKT.
