To say that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has the potential to be one of this year's biggest games would be a pretty obvious statement, but it really, really does.
The game was only announced last Thursday, so four days ago as this article goes live, but it's already become the second-best-selling game of 2020 at major retailer, Amazon. Pre-orders for the title are so strong on Amazon's main US site that only Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold more copies this year, which is pretty hard to believe.
It means that - on Amazon at least - the game has already outsold The Last of Us 2 and Paper Mario: The Origami King, as well as beating this year's totals for the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And all of that in just four days of pre-orders.
It's doing well in other countries, too; on Amazon's UK site, the game is already the seventh-best-seller of the year. Animal Crossing tops that list, too, with The Last of Us 2 and Minecraft close behind.
Part of this early success may be down to the fact that the game is a limited-time release; if you don't buy a copy by 31st March, you won't get one. Incidentally, you can pre-order a copy for yourself right here if you're interested.
Do you think this could possibly challenge Animal Crossing's mighty success on Switch? Let us know with a comment.

Not sure but we will see once the game released.
Now you see why Nintendo made almost no effort with the ports. They were always going to sell like hotcakes anyway.
The limited time release strategy is quite effective as far as immediate sales go, unfortunately. It's the only reason I'm even thinking about buying it.
Looks like Nintendo's master plan worked...mwahahahahaha!!!
Probably a high percentage have been bought by scalpers. Hope Nintendo print millions and leave the scalpers unable to shift their copies.
Yeah I’ll be getting this. Playing Mario sunshine again will be magic.
Gahhh buckle in folks, this is the start of a new type of game marketing. Corporate will interpret this as people responding to the limited time sale rather than people wanting to play three highly rated Mario games on a beloved system.
At a huge price, with the lazy remaster of Mario 64, and without Galaxy 2. Oh well, why won't they keep doing things like that?? We'll buy it regardless lol
I wish they would have made more effort with these games,particularly with 64 & Sunshine,and Galaxy 2 not being included is an omission I can't work out. I wish it was a bit cheaper too,but I also preordered knowing it will likely be sold out everywhere. The main issue I have with Nintendo is making it a limited run release,which is just *****
To be fair half of them are probably on ebay but I would have expected this to be hugely successful anyway as its 3 of the very best games I've played on any system.
I can't wait to play Mario 64 again, well all 3 really but especially that game which I'd probably rate as the best game I've ever played
While a lot of people want to have this, this might end like some sort of bubble, people will buys millions of copies to keep them and sell them later on eBay, then, the supply is way over the demand and people can't sell at the prices they hoped, maybe even less than the retail price.
It happened with comics in the 1990s, the comic book market crashed thanks to people thinking that any comic with #1 on it could be sold for millions like Action Comics #1.
Might be alot of people trying to re-sell them for a higher price
We are all fools. Our desperation to make sure we get a copy will only encourage more shenanigans like this in the future.
I will be getting this game and 3D World using a voucher in a couple of months.
84 quid for 4 classic 3D Mario games is fair enough to me. Mario Galaxy in HD is nearly worth it by itself.
I could say this a cheap move and Nintendo is making zero effort, but I’ve made my pre order xD it’s good enough for me
@Brydontk not new tho.
@vyseofhr Can't really blame them though. Nobody would turn down something that prints money.
There's been so much debate about this and ultimately I think we'd rather they spend the time working on the likes of BOTW2 that re-doing an old game that people are going to buy anyway. Sure a Mario 64 remake would have been nice, but not if it put Metroid 4 or BOTW2 back further.
hey if people are begging for these games as they are, Nintendo delivers, and its a blockbuster, I see zero things wrong with that transaction. I want to care about the limited time thing, but I'm getting it when it comes out so I dont
@Brydontk
No, no they wont.
Nintendo wants to celebrate the 35th Anniversary and it doesn't really stick if the game is still widely available on the 36th, 37th, 38th year does it?
And do you really think all future games will be released for only six months then taken off the market? Come on.
Does anyone know the proportion of Amazon vs whole industry and if previously it's been representative?
@victordamazio it would be a dumb idea to buy this one for the sake of scalping. It's pretty obvious there will be more than enough copies to go around
Don't get the anger over it, I think the limited release is more about selling Switches this holiday season than selling old Mario games, and I have nothing against that.
Everyone seems to be angry for someone else they don't know
Who in their right mind would buy three old barely upgraded games for $60, they said.
Preordered mine at the weekend, Amazon UK, noticed it was number one in video games. Cool stuff, never played Sunshine, never clicked with 64... but I LOVE Galaxy. Very excited!
Idk I think people are just wasting money. Nintendo is amazing at this, selling a port of a game that you played a billion times.
@Joriss No I agree 100%. I don't really understand why anyone would have been expecting remasters though when this was always going to be a ROM dump job. It is what it is.
And how many of those are people buying duplicates to sell on ebay?
People need to remembe that for a remasters it would be 60$ for each (like WW and TP). I was stresses for 30h until the pre-orders Starter in my country as I need my physical copy and to play sm64 day One
@Yas i hope so to i really do.
I wonder if everyone will get their pre-order this month!
I pre-ordererd a NES Classic way before it's release and kept getting the "we will ship your order once we get new stock".every week. Had to cancel it in the end as Argos got stock. A bit of a different kind of product of course but just because you have a pre-order, doesn't mean you'll get it in the launch window. A lot of places do tend to oversell as some can be cancelled.
As for the price, I did think it was too high considering how bare bones it was...but then I did buy both Galaxy games off Wii U VC for £18 with zero improvements!
@XO-Frats Pretty much, yes. This has been their plan all along. People see "limited" and go crazy. Not knowing they have 6 months to buy the game.
@hadrian It would be hilarious if it was the scalpers who didn't get copies after taking money off other people for them 😂
People are entitled to their opinions, but my gosh there is so much moaning! These are 3 of the best Mario 3D games, all on 1 cartridge and improved for the Switch- is this is not enough for you then fair enough but to moan that there should also be: galaxy 2, remastered, cheaper in price, etc is beyond me.
It is a limited run, accept it and either order a copy or move on.
Scalpers will scalp and there is nothing that can be done to prevent this by Nintendo. Limited items will always be highly sought and is the nature of the beast.
@swagbag713 this is what I would appreciate most. Not holding my breath anymore though. Was really hoping for a peak release but whatever...dammit
@carlos82 yeah, but if you never have played these titles (which most current young player haven't) is a good reason to get it on Switch. It's on current hardware and so why would you go play on an older hardware? I only hope they made Sunshine 16:9, but from the trailer i've seen its been shown as 4:3 video.. which means no widescreen and if anything else hasn't been touched it also means the camera movement with C-stick can't be changed either. I can't play Sunshine due the C-stick camera. I need to play the game with reverse camera C-stick control, but it's not there. It's unplayble to me for that reason alone
@vyseofhr dare I say: I don’t want a remake. The games are perfect as they are. The 720p/1080p upscale is good enough for me. Just wish Mario 64 had widescreen support...
@carlos82 It's happened before! I worked with someone who sold games £20 higher than RRP, (search for any game, even Mario Kart 8 and you'll see one on sale for £79 for no reason at all) and then when someone bought one from him, he'd then go and buy it from Argos or shop.to as they sell games chaper, and then send once he got them! However sometimes he had to refund the buyer. This guy is an absolute c*nt but then people should research prices and not assume eBay would be cheaper!
@Patendo never cared for Galaxy.. or any other game on the WII.. that forced motion control was the killer for me. I disliked Galaxy with the huge planets.. it felt to me lazy game. i didn't feel it
All those scalpers gotta get their stock somehow.
I guess the limit release strategy worked. As a collector its the only reason why i pre ordered it. And i never pre order games.
@TheFullAndy Yeah only place I found it that cheap physically for was Shopto (42 quid) and they are sold out, so voucher for me too I think along with the Pikmin 3 pre-order
@vyseofhr I think that it's because it's a limited-time release, physically and digitally. Most of these pre-orders are from scalpers AHEM! re-sellers. Only Nintendo is to blame, though.
Hey guys, how many of these are being printed? Is it unlimited till March, or just a number (like 3 million or something)? I’m considering getting this, but I’m just on the fence about preordering it, and I don’t want them to run out. (It’s unlikely but still)
@Isle_Delfino_Man
I understand people may want a physical copy but I went digital years ago so I am sorted lol. The voucher system is great in that respect.
It sucks Nintendo of America got rid of it for some reason.
@Alucard83 super Mario sunshine will be widescreen. Google videos of it. There one that compares the GC version to the switch video Nintendo released.
Here in Argentina we are paying the game 120 USD on retail, For a physical copy, (wich I already pre order BTW) so... I do not worry about scalpers.
@Alucard83 When I watched the trailer on my TV Sunshine displayed in widescreen so maybe there could be new camera controls too
I think that everyone that want the game will have a copy and that is the point of that release.
The scalpers are just making an investment so they could get some money in 1-2 years when the game is 300-400$.
Which is pathetic but it is a business plan. I also hate people that buy everything retro from my local resell-site so they could sell it again for 3-4 times the price but I can't do anything about it.
This is the lifestyle of those *****
@Patendo "either order a copy or move on."
Thats all well and good, but if everyone had the same mentality you do, sonics design in the sonic movie would'nt of changed, mods wouldn't be a thing for GTAV PC version and many other things like that.
When I see posts like this, I'll just double down.. No, I won't "move on"... I WILL MAKE MY VOICE HEARD
If people want to waste money spending £50 on 3 old games that's up to them, I'm still going to voice my opinion that it's a huge rip off though, I'll be firmly keeping that money to spend on a NEW title.
I remember when the direct dropped. I saw that it wasn’t trending. 🤔 I later on saw that it was #1. That made more sense! 😂
If we being real, Nintendo barely dropped anything in terms of first party games, barely has been vocal like normal about their schedule, yet in the video game area even with Sony & Microsoft dropping new consoles, off animal crossing and this Mario collection they’re gonna prolly have close earnings. Crazy
Kind of worried how the Zelda 35th Anniversary will go. Unlike Mario, Zelda has a big game that's coming eventually (BotW2), meaning there would probably be less interest in any of the older 3D Zelda games for that matter. In other words, I'm doubtful that a Zelda Collection would do as good as 3D All-Stars, because everyone would be more focused on BotW2.
@Doktor-Mandrake Haha enjoy your money and the new title. For many people this may be their first time playing one of these titles so for them it is a new experience. For me I was fortunate to own the consoles and games previously and am more than happy to pay this price for a 3D collection of this magnitude.
I will also double dip in February for Mario 3d World +Bowsers Fury. One of my favourite Marios and it will have additional content. Will you be buying this one?
Please don't ever be silenced, just have the humility to know that not everyone will share in your views and vice versa. When it comes to how people value products and choose to spend their money, I doubt there will ever be a consensus.
Good luck fighting against the big corps
Happy to see that Mario 3D World is getting another chance with a bigger audience. For many, I bet that game was a nice surprise, seeing how many didn’t even know that the WiiU existed!
TBH, I was kind of worried that this collection would actually sell out fast. Glad to see that there aren't stock issues yet because of scalpers. My experience with amiibo taught me how there's always a massive rush to grab all of the copies you can the second people can purchase them, and if people didn't understand it from the trailer, they'd know and have flocked to grab a few copies. These will definitely be collector's items in the future, but we're not going to see people struggling to grab them right now.
EDIT: I called it the 3D All-Stars collection 'game', but went with just 'collection' to make it distinct from other announcements.
Same in Norwegian web shops also. Sold out in 3 days.
Give the public what they want, and the public want Sunshine! In my case at least, Sunshine is the main attraction as I can already play Galaxy and 64 on the Wii U, though of course I'll be playing through those again as well.
@NathanTheAsian what about BOTW2 Holliday 2021 title, a Windwaker HD port, and then a 35 anniversary bundle of Metroid instead. Metroid Prime Trilogy bundle or my preference a Metroid Other M, Samus Returns, Federation force bundle.
Do we have hard numbers anywhere?
Let's see how limited this release turns out to be.
I'd be very surprised if they don't try to match pre-order numbers, no matter how high they grow.
I don't get the whining for remasters blah - blah - blah. It's 3 really well made games for €60. They've upped the resolutions, aspect ratio, and did some minor HD and UI changes.
I don't want my primitive polygonal or 2d map N64 tree look rounded, super shiny and extra fluffy.
Plus, Super Mario Sunchine and especially Galaxy looks even now way better than Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and Spyro: Reignited Trilogy @BlackenedHalo (fanboy my ass)
No effort from Nintendo ... which is crazy after we got superb Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
@Cosats you dont get it only because you are just a fanboy
but but but $60 is too much for some of the greatest games of all time!! WAAAHHHHHH
I suspect because people are ordering multiple copies to no doubt try and fleece some that don’t know any better on eBay
SAY IT WITH ME its-a-me mario!
I was hoping for a odyssey 2 but feck it! Preorders all in!
I'm just not that nonplussed over the limited time. It's not like we are talking two weeks. It's 6 months. That should be more than enough time for anyone that really wants this game to get it.
Now, about the game itself and whether it's value is worth the $60 price tag. That's ultimately up to those who are willing or not willing to pay for it, as with anything.
People say, "Why does Nintendo continue to release these ports/remasters/remakes instead of constantly showering us with brand new games!"
This is why.
@Anti-Matter I'm surprised.....but not really in a way.
The compilation to me is a disappointment. Not sure what you think. A friend of mine mentioned the games are just ports and not enhanced? Is that true? I would not have included Mario N64 and not sure about Galaxy 1....( I thought 2 was better), adding 2 would have been a good idea. There's room to do it...Look at the size of the amazing DQ XI S. What's your take on the 3 game choices? (I've "talked" with you before...you're at least civil and can have a normal conversation).
@Rika_Yoshitake @Cosats @Patendo Agreed! So much complaining and no one has even played it yet. At least wait for some reviews.
Plus, the argument has always been that people have to pirate games because Nintendo doesn’t make them available on modern consoles. This appears that it will be a great collection!
@Rika_Yoshitake @Cosats @Patendo - Don’t say it very loud here, but the new Mario Game and Watch doesn’t include SMB2 nor SMB3.
@WickedUnicarnBoi Nobody knows, and that's the frustrating part. For all we know it's a single print run. They're not going to say that, because they want you to buy the game NOW.
This is why Nintendo never needs to try anymore; they can make a barebones compilation with minimal improvements and it will sell.
No wonder we have only got 3 new games this year, Nintendo can just fart out the same games released previously, and people will pay for the priviledge of smelling them.
Yes, I am bitter. I don't normally hate ports, but it feels like all we are getting. Ports should be supplementing new releases, not replacing them.
I hope those of you who do buy this enjoy. I just hope it doesn't lead to Nintendo continuing to be lazy.
@sixrings
What I'm trying to say is that BotW 2 would be the ONLY Zelda title to be very successful for the anniversary. As far as the Metroid series goes, I'm not expecting anything major coming through 2021, aside from maybe a trailer for Metroid Prime 4 (however, the game TECHNICALLY has been in development for only 1.5 years so far).
Any other Zelda game, including ports for The Wind Waker HD (and don't forget about Twilight Princess HD), as well as possible a remaster/remake for Skyward Sword and ports of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask wouldn't be as well-received because they simply don't follow the new Zelda formula. If you remember back when the Link's Awakening remake was released, it was successful, but not to the extent of Breath of the Wild, and I fear that the same would happen for literally any other Zelda game that isn't Breath of the Wild.
@Joe-b
If i get the bundle, i will play Mario Sunshine as i have never played it before.
I have finished the storyline of Mario Galaxy 1 Wii version but it wasn't really fun to beat Bowser and cleared some very ridiculous hard courses.
Not interested with Mario 64 as it looks too outdated.
I'm sure the graphic quality will be 1080p on TV.
Straight port or Enhanced port, i don't really mind as long the gameplay is still same.
I'm still wondering if I should just take my chances with Walmart early on launch day (as they knock off about $10 usually) or if I should just go ahead and preorder. Though I still think the first run won't be the only print run like what some are suggesting.
The fact that this is limited to begin with baffles me. I am aware of the hypotheses as to why this is, but still....
LOL @ TheLastOfUs2. Great for Nintendo! Utterly deserved!
I got all the new stuff pre ordered from two different sites. One copy of the games will be for personal enjoyment, same with the Game & Watch. The other ones remain sealed to make me a rich guy in 2050! lol
"But why is this a limited edition? They won't make any money that way. Nintendo is so stupid!" - commenters on yesterday's article.
This is an extremely special release that I'm very excited about. All three of these classic and iconic games are a very good value and I'm very happy to pay the full sixty dollar price tag. I'm so stoked about the release, that I even preordered a physical and a digital copy so I can leave one in plastic.
If anyone is upset about this release due to the graphics not being completely upscaled and enhanced to a Super Mario Odyssey level...have you forgotten we are dealing with Nintendo here?! Yes they are an incredible company, but we wouldn't get these games at this value if the company COMPLETELY remade these titles. This is a package featuring the games in their classic forms that we all grew up playing...and who knows maybe later on down the line, Nintendo will release games like Mario 64 into the Switch's online service...or maybe they have even bigger plans for Mario Galaxy 2. But however you look at it, we are finally getting these epics in one package! And after Nintendo being EXTREMELY quiet this year, I have to say....it's definitely been worth the wait. If you're disappointed, maybe you should consider the state of the world and what COVID has done to Nintendo this year, let's be happy we got SOMETHING at least for the celebration of our favorite red little plumber.
@MS7000 We also don't truly know how the pandemic has adversely affected what Nintendo had planned for the rest of the year. I guess we'll see once they're out of this current mess of a period and have settled into whatever new normal that allows them to continue developing games going forward
@Samwise7 that's how I feel as well. I'd much rather nintendo works on a new ip than a port of decade old games.
Well, I’m one of these.
I’m not happy. This promotes Nintendo to be lazy.
2 days after the announcement Amazon Germany stopped the option to pre-order it and it's Number one here.
Fix the camera on Sunshine and it'll be worth every penny for me.
@vyseofhr your profile picture reminds my I care more about a skies of arcadia legends remaster than Mario games I have played to death. No I'm sad because we are probably never getting it
@AgentGuapo Widescreen would have been the dream. But I don't necessarily mean tampering with the games themselves; extras like concept art as unlockables on the cartridge, even borders for Mario 64 if the widescreen support was too much to manage. Just a few litte value added extras to make the package feel less like a cash grab and more like the celebration they are advertising it as.
@justinpenrod88 Just going to preface this and say that I am not trying to be rude or say your views are invalid, merely offer an alternative view. Apologies if you feel otherwise.
"If anyone is upset about this release due to the graphics not being completely upscaled and enhanced to a Super Mario Odyssey level...have you forgotten we are dealing with Nintendo here?! Yes they are an incredible company, but we wouldn't get these games at this value if the company COMPLETELY remade these titles."
That is the problem though. Nintendo get away with it because they are Nintendo, and they shouldn't. When you have scenarios such as Crash Bandicoot N'Sane trilogy and Spyro Reignited trilogy where all the games are remastered with completely redone assets such as graphics and music, Nintendo's own efforts pale in comparison. Even other games that get remastered/remade/released typically have cheaper releases too, such as Medievil and Shadow of the Colossus on PS4, and then whole compilations like Rare Replays on Xbox One. Nintendo does so little and asks for a lot, and get away with it because "Nintendo".
And if the price really is an issue for doing this properly, make them separate releases and charge £30-40 for each one and do something similar to Fire Emblem Fates where all the games get released on one cartridge for a higher than usual price point.
"This is a package featuring the games in their classic forms that we all grew up playing..."
Again, more reason to remaster them properly to give us a reason to return again to these games.
"And after Nintendo being EXTREMELY quiet this year, I have to say....it's definitely been worth the wait."
I would say that is subjective but nonetheless, good for you.
"If you're disappointed, maybe you should consider the state of the world and what COVID has done to Nintendo this year, let's be happy we got SOMETHING at least for the celebration of our favorite red little plumber."
Covid-19 is very unfortunate and hopefully Nintendo employees are not suffering with it. That said, it seems strange that they in particular seem to be struggling when the other companies such as Sony, Microsoft and 3rd parties like EA, Activision and Ubisoft seem to have adapted to the current situation. And even with Covid, Nintendo's president said that releases scheduled for this year have not changed. Assuming that wasn't PR bluster, then was Nintendo's plan to only do 3 new games and loads of ports? Because if so, then Covid has very suddenly become a convenient excuse for what I would call a bad year on Nintendo's part. Not to mention personally as a Wii U owner, seeing so many Wii U ports is frustrating as ultimately, we are left with nothing new to play. From that perspective, it is hard to not be disappointed.
@Northwind not really. Nintendo have released a limited run for a 35th Anniversary which is fantastic- they have every right to do this. What happens after that we will need to wait and see.
However, Nintendo have no responsibility or way of stopping scalpers. This is the same across many industries not just gaming.
Infact, it's guarenteed to be available digitally during this time, scalpers can be avoided in this method. Physical copies is harder and not something that can be stopped.
Any limited run or collectable has this same challenge.
@UmbreonsPapa Assuming Nintendo's president wasn't spouting PR Bluster, Covid wouldn't of affected this years productions. Next years on the other, I can see those being delayed due to a lot of development issues, which means next year will probably be even worse. I do hope that I am wrong though...
@vyseofhr That is true. And I may end up buying it, anyway, disappointed as I am in the lack of SMG2, widescreen in SM64, enhancements beyond improved resolution and frame rates, etc.
@Northwind that game is easily available for $20-30. Like all games, only the original is really collectible.
With how the switch is built, having a working switch in 8 years will be more rare than this game.
@MS7000 I think next year and how this year affects it goes along with the point I'm trying to make. Along with not knowing how finishing up games for later in the year may have been adversely affected, it's quite possible games for next year are gonna miss their marks and Nintendo may have had to do some shuffling to fill in some gaps. Maybe a game or two planned for the fall and holiday season of this year is now slotted for winter or spring '21 because games for those slots are delayed for obvious reasons. I can easily see scrambling to shuffle the deck may have caused the periods of radio silence we had after Animal Crossing.
I'm mean, this all speculation on all of our parts as we don't really know how all of that went down beginning in March. I just find it hard to believe Nintendo went into 2020 without having much more substantial plans after Animal Crossing.
@TheFullAndy Of course I'm not saying they're going to do it for ALL future game sales 🙄 But what YOU'RE saying is that a top corporation will see a highly successful sales method... And neeeeever use it again?
@BlackenedHalo I wouldn't mind the low effort if the price and availability wasn't the way it is.
Just think, if we had the VC, you could buy these games for much less and whenever you were ready to buy them. Christ, if Nintendo announced right now that a new VC was coming to Switch with NES - Wii support, I wouldn't be angry about the way they are handling this collection.
@Brydontk
For anniversary type games yes the system will be used as it makes sense, but it won't be a regular occurrence. We can expect the same when Nintendo does it for the Zelda 35th anniversary.
Considering there is only 1 other game worth mentioning on Switch this year, no surprise.
Not surprising to see. I pre-ordered my copy through Amazon the day the collection was announced. The convenience of having both Sunshine and Galaxy on the same card and playable away from a TV screen is alone, for me, worth the investment. I enjoyed both of those games quite a bit and have no problem double dipping. Plus now, I can share my experiences easily with the Switch's media features. Super Mario 64, while I don't like as much, is still a great time in its own right and further sweetens the package.
@Northwind eBay and local used game shops. Meanwhile Majoras mask is $70.
First time I've seen the comment section of a NL article more civil than the equivalent NL thread. LOL
All this limited release business does is make me feel pressured, and that's the fastest way for me to lose interest. I considered giving these games a chance, but not like this.
@Northwind a copy just sold yesterday for $20.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Legend-of-Zelda-Collectors-Edition-Nintendo-GameCube-2003/133513205868?hash=item1f1601d86c:g:6gAAAOSwZd1VbyDs#vi__app-cvip-panel
People can ask whatever they like, but no one is buying those for that price.
But...but some folks on here say no one wants old games, ports etc. 😆
Looking forward to the collection alot. So many fond memories of Mario64 its rediculous, not played much of Sunshine so that sjould be good and i loved Galaxy. They can keep 3d world tho when that comes out. So many things i disliked about it.
@Northwind Nintendo have released it for a 35th Anniversary, thats why its limited. Same as the clothing, online mario/tetris, etc. It was to be part of a 35th annniversary celebration that was delayed by several months.
It's not about looking at it as unfair or simply changing their anniversary purpose. The scalping is not even evident yet as the games not out and in the UK there is lots of preorders still. The critism of Nintendo is knee jerk and too soon.
@Northwind you seem to ignore the fact that Nintendo as a company have celebrated 35 years of Mario with these products. Part of that is a limited run to commemorate this, it is possibly more relevant than you like to admit. It is not about what you think they should have done or what I think.
I've got my preorder and there is 6 months for others to get theirs. No need to pay scalpers so all this hot air is very knee jerk.
I won't be replying again but thanks for the chat.
@Northwind wow, never has the ignore button been so handy haha
I commented on an article and you have instigated a debate I do not wish to have. You write as if you are in a court of law and it's rather off putting. As you ignored my polite way of saying "good day and bugger off" I will now just click 'ignore'.
Good bye
I might just try my luck at a physical store but I am not holding my breath. I will probably end up getting digital at some point if I can't find a physical copy. No reason to buy from scalpers at this point.
@Anti-Matter yah, everything you said I agree with. I would play Sunshine only.
@Yas judging by the fact that it’s still readily available on Amazon, I’m pretty sure we’re going to see that amazing when scalpers are undercutting each other to try to make some return on their investment.
@Patendo Well said.
@Yas It would be real funny if Nintendo re-releases 3D All Stars as a Nintendo Selects title and undermines all of the scalpers. 🤣
@sanderev
'@XO-Frats Pretty much, yes. This has been their plan all along. People see "limited" and go crazy. Not knowing they have 6 months to buy the game.'
This. This is what I dont understand. 6 months is a very long time to sell and reprint. Anyone who really wants it will have it by march (aka us, the big fans). It'll be on the eshop forever aswell.
And. I'm sure they will do another run in a year or something.
Its really just a fast way to make lots of money to please the share holders in April 2021.
As for the ebay resellers. They have them up on ebay now, and they will stay there until people in the future want a copy, that will drive the price up in a year or two. but not these crazy prices.
Personally, I cant bloody wait to get my hands on it, lol.
I have ordered one copy for this and one of the Game & Watch. But now I'm thinking, maybe I will order a second copy of each and keep them sealed and in a bag in my attic and forget about them for a few years.
the industry is how it is because we don't deserve any better. I dislike jim sterling as much as the next guy but he said something very true the other day - that companies no longer need to prove their worth and convince us to buy their product, nowadays we have to prove to them that we are worthy of buying it. like the ps5 preorder and this limited time port nonsense .
The only thing that puzzles me is the lack of widescreen support for 64.
@readyletsgo I think they will release these games separately onto the eShop next year. This is when we will also see Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the eShop.
Not a surprise really. Three classic Mario games was always going to sell. The Limited Run stuff is rubbish by Nintendo but out in the wider world it probably doesn’t register, millions will buy for this for themselves or as a Christmas present anyway.
@Menchi
This is all formats, not just the Switch
Nintendo’s business strategy department got to leave the office 20 minutes early today in celebration of this news.
@jimtendog Or sending game cases with nothing in them.
@Old-Red 🙋🏾♂️ <~~ SHEEP
@MS7000 Thanks for the response. I'm hyped for the release. And I'm am looking forward to playing it😁
Did anyone say it was going to be a limited number of copies? As far as I see, it's just a limited time offer. Chillax, people, sheesh. I'm sure Nintendo will print a boatload of copies, so everyone who wants one gets one.
Even if something crazy happens, and your store runs out of copies, there's always digital.
(Not to mention, I'm like 90% sure the limited time offer is because Nintendo Switch Online will add N64 next year, with other consoles to follow, so there'll always be that.)
@TheFullAndy Very well said.
@Alucard83 i got the same problem with the stick. I bet, they put the option in. Or at least patch it in. I played it through back in the days but trying to replay it a few years ago, the camera really stopped me from doing so. I just couldn't enjoy it.
Nintendo is, first and foremost, a business.
They knew what they were doing with this limited release.
EA, Activision and Ubisoft will remember that.
It won’t challenge ACNH ... I suspect it’s the limited time it’s available that’s driving the pre-orders
I like SM 64 as it is. The graphics are simple on today's standards, which is why it has aged pretty well, IMO.
Glad I'm sailing the seven seas vs buying this, screw this artificial scarcity crap
