Boy, if you like lawnmowers, last week was a real doozy. The Switch was blessed with not one but two games based on the act of cutting sweet, sweet grass – Lawnmower Game: Next Generation and Lawnmower Game: Racing – both from those kind folks at Ultimate Games.
The first has a "very positive" rating on Steam, it says here, while the second has a "positive" rating. Surely the PC Master Race can't be wrong, right?
"In Lanwmower [sic] game you drive lawnmower and cut grass in a big open world which contain grass, houses and other obstacles," says the press release for the former title. "Drive lawnmower in open world and cut every cuttable grass right in front of you. After cutting all grass, it will respawn - the game loop is endless. Lawnmower has also fuel consumptio [sic] mechanics. Pick-up Jerry cans and add fuel. If you run out of fuel you will respawn at the starting location." Okay, we guess?
Of course, we simply had to give these games a spin and quickly enlisted Jon to create a video. He still hasn't stopped laughing.
Are these the two worst games on Switch? Watch the video above and see what you think – and if you're still interested, we might have a review of one of these delicious games coming in the future...

That’s actually how you spell “consumption” though so idk what the [sic] is for
Oh yeah! I know some neighbors that would LOVE these games!
This is terryfying.
"obligatory Pokemon SwSh joke"
The masterrace has given the games a high rating because that's their sense of humour. I should know because i was once a member of the PCmasterrace but i love physical media so became a lowlife KonsoleKid about 4 years ago when physical PC games became little more than steam codes in a box.
I'm glad i chose Nintendo as my console as all the WiiU ports are brand new games to me so I'm absolutely loving the switch.
The secret snow area is the best thing that has ever happened in gaming.
@JHDK Its up there with Big Rigs Over the Road Racing's awesome mechanic where your opponents don't move from the starting line.
YOUR WINNER
I hope they make some mow of these games
The only good lawnmower game I ever played was Hovver Bovver on the Commodore 64. 😆
Have you browsed through the hundreds if not THOUSANDS of eShop games that reek of being absolute garbage on every level, from artwork and production values to gameplay (with several more pouring in every single week)? Hitting the Top Ten or even Top Twenty on the list of "Worst Games on Switch" could legitimately be seen as an achievement, however dubious it may be. And the blame falls squarely on Nintendo for that situation; the Switch's eShop makes even the Wii's host of straight-to-bargain-bin third-party garbage seem like the good old days.
Vroom in the Night Sky has been dethroned!
@SlowPokemon My computer actually automatically corrected the text (it's missing the 'n' on the original press release) 😂
I was looking at this on the Switch eShop and noticed they spelled it lanwmower twice. I almost thought it was on purpose.
Reviews on Steam are just as untrustful as the users reviews on Metacritics. Remember they gave it positive reviews just because the game works, not because the game is good.
I do wish that Nintendo would have SOME sort of quality control for the eShop, it would mean not having to wade through quagmires of rubbish like this to find anything decent.
day one for me if it gets a physical release in a double pack with a free new lawnmower.
This is art this is beautiful
@mr_benn or some form of review system on the eshop would help. I'm sure Nintendo are avoiding this after the bad player reviews a lot of the first party switch titles have received, like Animal Crossing and Paper Mario.
@Damo incredible proofreading on their part, lol
@Clyde_Radcliffe just looked it up looks ok I had a c64 for years and never heard of this plus it’s by Jeff minter
I might pick these up if they go on sale for less than 10¢ each, but otherwise, I'm not wasting any money on them.
@DrDaisy Would that not be a waste of 20¢?
It's a meme game. Reviews are a joke.
@chewytapeworm Yes, it would not be waste of 20¢, it would be a waste of 18¢ max. This isn't the 1950s. I can easily part with such a miniscule amount of money.
my vote would be for the 2 Moto Racing Utopia Games (Aqua and Snow) as the worst games on switch so far. But i will give these Lawnmower games a good runner up participation trophy.
Who can tell?? There are so many bad games and shovelware on Switch. They outnumber quality software of a ratio of 10-1 if not greater..
Wow I feel confident that I could get a game published on the eShop myself now.
If only this was co-op or pvp. Hehe
Link’s Awakening really sets the standard for grass cutting games on Switch.
I think I’ll stick with Hover Bovver.
@Rambler There's actually four different grass cutting simulator. Link's awakening, Bravely Default II, and the two games they showed here.
I think this should be a regular feature, having a laugh at such garbage. Good job on the video Jon, the bit with the character scaling was a hoot.
Worst game I've played on switch is Super Arcade Soccer. I got it for about 50p, probably with spare coinage, and still felt ripped off. Glitchy, buggy, camera can't keep up with the play, which is incredible because it's like you're playing with eleven 85 year olds, top down mode is horrendous, you can't tell which players are yours, the ball moves like a giant boulder, you can't accurately select players or pass properly, it's just amazing how hopeless it is.
Downloaded and deleted within 15 minutes, a new record for me. Avoid at all costs.
@Rambler It'd be an amazing one honestly.
@Dethmunk I think Nintendo chucked their "Official Seal of Quality" out the window when they replaced the Virtual Console with the eShop. Having all the quantity in the world is meaningless if the vast majority of those games are trash. But they wanted their "Nindies" program to pad the number of titles available on the Switch from the get-go; QC became a thing of the past.
Oh, come on! Couldn't you just finish the racing? Extremely frustrating!
Anyone remember the ZX Spectrum title Advanced Lawnmower Simulator. It came free with copies of Your Sinclair as a covertape. It was made as an April Fools' joke, as well as poking fun at Codemasters adding the world "simulator" to its game titles. I bet you'd have more fun with that than with these two doggy landmines.
I've always wanted to drive lawnmower myself.
Lawnmower simulators have a long history of being "so bad they're good". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Lawnmower_Simulator
Legends say Jon is still playing that Cup.
Lawnmower RACING, YeeeHAW, Sign me up! 😆
If I wanted to play a game about an apparatus that trimmed bush...
Legend of Kusakari, a ZELDA THEMED LAWN MOWING GAME(!), kicks the grass of every game in the lawn mowing genre.

"Depths of the Eshop" truly needs to be a regular series.
