Today, Paper Mario: The Origami King launches on Nintendo Switch. Considering it was only actually revealed in May we really haven't had that long to wait, but we're sure there are plenty of fans that have been eager to get stuck in ever since.
Of course, any game with Nintendo's most famous mascot on the cover is bound to draw in a huge audience, but Paper Mario players haven't been universally pleased with recent entries in the series. Older games tend to be favoured - like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on GameCube which is regularly considered to be the 'best' of the series - with newer games like Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash not going down quite as well.
That's not to say those games are bad - far from it, we'd say - but we've noticed a fair amount of Origami King hesitation in our comment sections over the past few weeks. Therefore, we thought it'd be a good idea to see just how many of you are planning on picking up the new game.
If you need to read through our full review of the game before making a decision, feel free to check it out right here. Otherwise, have at it:

Well, obviously.
Yes, in fact it’s already arrived. I hadn’t planned to get it but something about the ads appealed to my 5 year old daughter and she asked if we could get it.
Edit- not trying to say I think this is a kids game, I just haven’t played Paper Mario since TTYD and planned to finish Xenoblade before buying any new Switch games.
My physical copy arrived today, but I won't be playing it right away.
Xenoblade and Animal Crossing currently have my full attention.
Given what reviews are saying I'll wait till a good sale (if that ever happens).
I am awaiting the postman as we speak
I think it looks lovely, but Paper Marios are so far down on my to play list, I still haven't played colour splash! Besides, at the moment, I'm so into Xenoblade, that if there is a Mario All-Stars 2 type compilation, I'll probs be on to that next.
Sorry Paper Mario.
I will consider this Paper Mario as replacement of TTYD as i couldn't ever buy TTYD from Ebay with very unbuyable prices. 😔
But NOT Day One as i still busy with ACNH.
I have never played video games for straight 6 hours on ACNH.
Got it from Curry's with 6 months free Spotify included.
Delivered this morning! Hopefully will give it a go this weekend, although I need play some more AC as I haven't really done anything all week, plus Ghost Tsushima has just droppped cough, Sony defector
I'll buy a used copy at some point I suspect, but in no hurry to play it.
If the game was more cohesive (e.g. battles weren't pointless) then I'd be much more likely to consider it early.
Of course I'm getting it! Once I'm done with Ys VIII (what a fantastic game, pretty long too). I love adventure games.
I liked Color Splash a lot, even though I know it's not the best in the series. And most people say this is a way better game. So I'm all in!
Yes, but I just got Color Splash as I never played it at release and don't want to skip an entry. I'll complete that before I get this.
My copy will be arriving Monday or Tuesday but going to finish off some other games first. I'm not feeling that excited to play it.
I went from no to yes to no to maybe to hell no to it's downloading now and I can't stand the wait!
Tesco 45 pounds
Another RPG? no thanks. Patiently waiting/hoping for this 35th Mario Collection...
my copy will, unfortunately, arrive on Monday
@nmanifold It is an action adventure / platformer
Yes. Preloaded the game and think im playing it today
Nope. Looks too boring.
Bring me back Paper Mario N64, GC and Wii's formulas and I'm back in.
Not a full price. This is not Paper Mario.
Already playing it. Payed 41 pounds for it.
I plan to get it soon, but not sure when. It does sound like a game I'll enjoy though.
No. They need to sort it out, I haven't bought a Nintendo game new since Luigi's Mansion 3. That's coming up to a whole year, what are they doing?
I'll need to pass, my favourite group girl group is releasing a new album next month... priorities
i love the look of it loved the other ones but the combat looks annoying as hell
It should arrive in my mailbox any minute now.
Mine is coming in the mail today. Really looking forward to it. I just finished LoU2, and man, what a heavy game (it was excellent though). I need something a little more lighthearted right now, lol, and it looks absolutely stunning.
No. It's not a series that I've gotten into before, and the gameplay footage we've seen doesn't really appeal to me.
Unfortunately my copy has been delayed until Monday or Tuesday so I won't be playing it this weekend. However Ghost of Tsushima Collector's edition will be here today so I will be playing that over the weekend instead.
I will get it, but not today.
My son wants it for his Birthday next week so I will get it then. I do also want to play it regardless of a lot of the hate it's receiving.
@Kid_Sickarus I am calling BS. You “got this for your daughter.” I have a feeling someone else is going to be playing this a lot too!
Mario 35th remasters/remakes will be day 1. If I got this, being honest with myself it would just go on the pile and I'm trying to break that habit. Enjoying working through my backlog at the moment, but not interested in adding to it.
Getting it tomorrow, but wish Nintendo would just let us know what is planned for the rest of the year already
I'll be starting it today.
I'm not getting it. It's not my Paper Mario and the game will probably be super easy too.
Not saying the game sucks, the game looks fun,but it's not for me
I pre-ordered after the second trailer. Reviews are exactly what I expected from it so I'm probably in for a great time!
I was just at the store, and I considered getting it. But I wanted a Mario RPG. And all the reviews make it clear that this isn't that.
So I left it on the shelf. I'll get it on a discount later on.
Had to sell my Switch Lite to pay bills last month.. now today is my birthday and I can’t play anything, much less Paper Mario.
My kids have disowned me, I have worries coming out of my eyeballs and I’m increasingly becoming an angry 47-year-old who’s depressed and throwing his toys out of the pram.
I’m so sorry for the outburst, but I need a way of venting somehow or I fear I’ll go mad 😖😤😩
Yes, my copy is scheduled to get here today, but I haven’t decided whether I’m playing Paper Mario or Ghost of Tsushima first. May try out both and see which one grabs my attention more. Looking forward to both!
@Crockin you’ve described my rollercoaster
I do enjoy Paper Mario. And the reviews do seem good, but just not ‘day one’ good. And I have a finite amount of cash to spend.
I can see me picking this up in two or three years time towards the end of the Switch’s lifespan.
No, but in a very good sale and if I'm in a Paper Mario mood down the line then maybe, just maybe....
@Retron Nintendo is a school of game design. They're here to try new mechanics and give game designers creative freedom whatever it fails or succeed. They're the only big videogame company left still doing that. If they stop doing that they die. If you want a market where budget size decides the quality of a videogame then Nintendo is not for you. They're a hit or miss company since the very beginning.
I hate the battlesystem... which is a big part of the game. So I’m absolutely not going to buy this game.
I'm so stressed about the pandemic and I need things to help me relax so I'm gonna pass cause of the battle system.
I am getting it if my order is actually recognised. Paid for it and an order screenshot saved but no confirmation email so who knows. Not arrived in today's post so not looking promising.
I'm not really deterred by "it's not an RPG like TTYD!". I thought Color Splash was a pretty good attempt after the Sticker Star disaster, and this is just an evolution of Color Splash. But it's more of that I have so many other games I could finish instead. I may have to pass
I think I am good. I've fallen back into Paladins as my go to stress-relief game, and I still putter around Animal Crossing daily. Not to mention that I still need to put some more time into Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 and some other smaller games out there.
I love the look of the game, even the battle system. Just can't afford anything extravagant at the moment. But when things get back on track, you bet I'm getting this! 😊
Going out into the world after breakfast, and some care repair - all 3 of my back brake lights are out - to see if I can find a copy. Early birthday present.
And really, it's not like there is a lot coming out on Switch to play. When it comes down to Paper Mario or Gamer Girl, well Paper Mario can't be that bad. 😎
@BlackenedHalo has it not got turn based battles? I don't like those.
Preoderdered via that NSO voucher thing. Played a bit last night. Seems great. Two things come to mind:
1) I think many people miss the fact that it's still a first-party Nintendo game. The level of polish is just incredible, and it compensates for a lot of shortcomings (if there are any). The HD rumble is utilised to the full, love it. The folded-hands motion controls are like the best of the Wii fun, but without overdose. The writing is really funny. Plus, it is beautiful and runs like a charm.
2) Just be a grown-up and accept the change in the series. We may get a Mario RPG in the future, but that will surely be via the M&L RPG series.
P.S. I'm surprised no one made a joke about the battles being TURN-based yet.
Nope, the battle system just looks simplistic and that it would get boring, fast..
I’m planning to get it after I’m done with Ghost of Tsushima on PS4. Both games interest me, but that one has my attention more urgently.
I really don't think I will like the battle system. I like puzzle games, Like Puyo Puyo, But not things like Zelda, and Now Paper Mario. I know the writing will be superb, So I think I will just watch a Let's play on Twitch!
In a world without Ghost of Tsushima, I might have gotten this sooner. As it is, however...sorry, faithful Switch, you are taking a well-deserved rest for a bit.
Waiting for the postman. I have all the Paper Mario games so this is a no brainer, and yes I enjoyed all the games, even Sticker Star.....
@rockodoodle haha! Well obviously I will be a dutiful father and give her some assistance but only on the condition she helps me with Ghosts of Tsushima
Postie has been, I'm now 3 hours into it, the battle system takes a bit of getting used to, but so far I've taken more damage falling downs those blasted holes, than from the battles themselves
I'll pick up the game eventually. Too many higher priority ones in the backlog right now. I'm still buried in Xenoblade Chronicles anyway.
@nmanifold Its turn based battles, after the puzzle for optimal fighting, it becomes more like TTYD again, tap as you land to do more damage, tap at right time to block some damage.
Its not just rotating the wheel either, there's sliding back and forth too
Ordered with a discount, but ends up in my backlog.
I had the game today !! And it is suuuper fun
Not for me, but does bring me pleasure knowing many others find it to be their 'jam.'
My physical copy is on the Fed Ex truck and is due here sometime today.
I've only played two Paper Mario games, one I finished, one I barely started, so I'm certainly not in a hurry to get this one. Maybe someday if I see it for a good price.
Every big release is controversial now, especially this year. Actually was kind of surprised FF7 remake got out mostly unscathed
@The_Pixel_King Sounds like you did the right thing when choosing between keeping the lights on or playing video games. When you get back on your feet, the video games will still be there.
This one's a big "nope" for me. It's got no sign that it's what I want from a Paper Mario game and Imsee no need to pay for my own disappointment.
That said, I hope everyone who does want/get it has a good time with it. The franchise has just morphed into something that isn't for me.
I just want them to release Mario 64.
Yes, but I don't know when because Amazon gonna Amazon.
Nope.
Not interested in a puzzle/adventure game dressed up as an rpg.
Looks fun though for those who like the style.
I have no previous experience with any Paper Mario or any Mario RPG. So if it's a fun and decent game, I might consider it if I need something to play
I'll wait for a sale. Possibly Black Friday or the after Christmas sales
Still need to play Colour Splash first but am looking forward to The Origami King. Have changed my expectations and think that will help me to enjoy the game for what it is instead of wanting it to be like the first two games.
@pinta_vodki
1) A polished turd is still a turd. If the underlying game itself isn't appealing to me (and it hasn't been since Sticker Star), no amount of polish and witty writing is going to change that
2) There's nothing "grown up" about adopting the mantra of "don't think, just consume product, and then get excited for more product". Also, with the company that made them gone bankrupt, it is not likely we will see any new Mario & Luigi games for a while, if ever, and if we do, they won't at all be like they were.
If you really enjoy the game, that's great! It's good that the time and effort went into making the game found an audience and it brings them enjoyment. But that doesn't invalidate the feelings of betrayal and abandonment of those who fell in love with a franchise that has changed into something unrecognizable from what it used to be and who don't like what it's become.
@Old-Red this is Nintendo except for the first year of the switch
This does not look or seem like a paper Mario game. I’ll pass.
game looks gorgeous combat looks silly and thats the main selling point of this game, so a pass from me.
The probably not's and nope's have it, so far. These games fall into the Mario Party, Tennis etc. category rather than the Mario Odyssey one. It will do ok which is good enough for Nintendo but it won't sell any Switches.
I will play it, trade it and move on, so I will recoupe 50% of the rather high price tag.
@jimtendog I agree. If your not a fan of animal crossing, what in the hell have you had to play this year regarding Nintendo titles ?
I still havent finished Xenoblade chronicles, that and NBA2k are my most pkayed games and I really want to see the end of XC before jumping into another RPG (which the whole no xp thing bugs me a little)
But after that, for sure ill look it up, but sadly its a nintendo game so theres no way it ll ever go down from $80 (CAD)
@DawgP Betrayal and abandonment? Aren't we being a tad bit dramatic here?
I completely understand not being happy with the direction the series has gone in. But to portray this as some kind of evil scheme by Nintendo to purposely hurt customers is a bit much
@The_Pixel_King I feel ya buddy. Loads of problems on my end as well. Keep chuggin along you got this!
Decided to get ghost of tushima instead it will deffo be picking this up next Friday
I've never been into Paper Mario. I am such a big fan of Super Mario RPG on the SNES that I always held a bit of a grudge against the series.
A childish thing from back when I was a child, I just can't help it.
My only hope is that the series has gone so far from the RPG mechanics, that maybe Nintendo and Square might consider bringing my old favorite back. Maybe?
@AndyRogan sounds like I might like it. I hate that turn based xp battle stuff, but this does sound a bit different. I might be tempted, sure there's nothing else out!
@The_Pixel_King Sorry to hear that--I hope things turn around for you for the best. The good thing about hitting our lowest point is that there's nowhere to go but up. The personal motto I keep in my heart when I'm distressed is that the happiest people are those who overcome the greatest adversity. I hope you can find some source of joy on your birthday of all days. Whether this comment can do that to any extent or not, I don't know, and you probably weren't looking for any sympathy, but I'm extending my best wishes to you regardless. Prayers for you!
No, I'm not getting it. I do not want to sound like a cry baby, but the Paper Mario series went in the complete opposite direction with their new ideas. They scrapped everything from this series that made it so charming. The unique characters like Goombario, Kammy Koopa, and Doopliss, the many different races that you encounter on your journey that aren't a generic toad, the unique toad designs, the RPG system, etc.
This isn't a bad game at all, we are not talking about a Sonic 06-level of bad, but it is still not the Paper Mario game I want. It is especially sour for me because now the M&L RPG series is dead and we have no Mario RPGs left.
My physical copy will arrive today, will be a good acquisition for my holidays
Can someone explain what it’s all about? It looks lovely but I’m not sure what you actually DO! Do you jump on enemies or what? I’m not quite sure and have never played a paper Mario game. Can anyone explain it? Convince me?
#1 on my GameFly list just waiting my slot.
But does not look like I got it in the main wave. Maybe next week.
@pinta_vodki
It could be extremely polished, but I still don't want it. I enjoyed Paper Mario 64 and TTYD for their cast of characters, the turn based rpg elements, and the paper related set pieces and story.
I hope everyone who buys it is happy with it, but I don't want it. Sticker Star was trash, Color Splash was ok at best. I think I just actually want TTYD2, because this new direction isn't for me
@UmbreonsPapa Not really? Feelings are feelings, no matter how deep or shallow the degree. And that's what many feel towards the Paper Mario franchise. It's why it ruffles so many feathers so hard amongst the "og fans".
Not sure where you get this "evil scheme" thing, though... And if it was all on how things were said, that's my bad; didn't mean to imply there was a direct desire to hurt fans. ^^;
But, you don't have to intend harm for someone to feel betrayed or abandoned by your choices/actions. No, it's not on the level of the betrayal of Julius Ceaser, but it's still a "switcheroo" style change that quite understandably leaves original buy-in-ers feeling duped.
Basically, there are valid reasons for emotional responses and trying to blithely dismiss them only entrenched and incenses them further. And yes, I still mourn the loss of what Paper Mario used to be.
People are starved for games so they will buy anything Nintendo puts out.
Picked it up cheap from ShopTo - it arrived this morning. Can't wait to test it out after I finish work today. It looks absolutely gorgeous.
Nintendo game seldom goes on sale and mostly by not much if it does. So I got this as soon as it goes live, after all, four months of animal crossing makes you want to try something new...
It feels to me that Nintendo has a small stash of games and now ports that it releases or plans to release as a place holder. This feels like one of those games. It might be alright, but this game feels like the equivalent of running into a friend at the coffee shop in the morning, then the grocery store in the afternoon and then at the same restaurant in the evening. It would not surprise me at all if we see another Paper Mario to be a filler in between the Switch and the next console.
Trololol, the majority still getting it. You wouldn't expect it seeing all the hate directed to this game on this site! If you don't like it you should vote with your wallet!
Nah. If they refuse to make the series good again I refuse to purchase another entry. Goodbye.
I'll wait and see. I loved TYD and actually quite enjoyed Super Paper Mario on Wii. But it's 2020, and the series needs to evolve. These games still feel like N64/GameCube era games; they need voice acting, for starters.
Already got it and I’m in love with it,
Yust defeated the first boss
@Ooccoo_Jr
What about the game though?
The weather's crummy right now by me, so I don't feel like making the trip up to Gamestop for my order, and tomorrow's going to b pretty busy for me. I'll probably wait until early next week, but I am definitely grabbing it.
@RupeeClock I just started Xenoblade a few days ago too! So I’m going to let my 9 yo play first and then by the time he’s done, I’ll be ready for it.
I’m waiting for it to come. It’s out for delivery on Purolator’s truck but we’ll see if it shows up.
Somewhat annoyingly, yeah, I'm getting it. You see, my roommate cut his finger on my fan in my room, despite it being in that exact place for months now. He doesn't blame me or anything, but I still feel bad. He's a gamer who indeed keeps up with new releases consistently, too.
I woke up this morning, and apparently he had already started downloading Ghost of Tsushima AND Iron Man VR (the game I was originally planning on getting him). Welp. I guess it's Origami King now, despite my better judgement. I mean, all three of us in the household will probably play it now, but I don't think any of us would have bothered to get it right away if someone's finger hadn't gotten cut. :/
I already pre-ordered, but it may not arrive on day one.
From what everyone was going on about the game I wasn't going to get it. However, I never tried a Paper Mario adventure before and it always looked charming so this time I figured why not. It's actually quite enjoyable and the funny bits are good so far.
6) No, until I will know there will be no paid DLCs in future.
Obviously NO
@Henmii top bold to say " the majority will still get it"... who is the majority? Based on what? Observation? From my observation, Twitter was PISSED at nintendo yesterday, and the majority will not get it. Different perspectives I guess
Already got it pre-order and coming, hopefully it'll get here by next week.
@techdude there are some things, i dont remember how they are called... ah, yes!! There are good games you can get instead of this, if you are tired of animal crossing!
My son got it for his birthday today. When he, my daughter in law. my 2 grand children finish the game; I'll be playing it. I am in no rush and at my age I learnt patience
@Heavyarms55 second hand, 10 dollars in a couple years. It's a nice strategy
pre-ordered it immediately (digital.) started playing at 9:01pm last night! (west coast) it's cute! I've only ever played Super Paper Mario on the Wii...so i'm not "passionate" about the series...but i'm enjoying this one so far!
So far the game is amazing.
Different experience from TYD or color splash but an amazing adventure and the battle system to be honest is not as bad as critics may say
@Mgene15 I am not a fan of animal crossing either but I still have a ton to play on the switch. It seems like a lot of people don't have back catalogues of games. I play a lot of rpgs and they can take forever. Heck I am in the middle of playing dragon quest XI S and fire emblem three houses and those are 100 hour plus games just to name a few games i am working on the switch. Just finished astral chain on switch and it is one of best games on the switch ever to me! But to get back on topic this paper Mario looks interesting but I am not going to get it because I have a back catalogue plus l am one who likes the old paper marios better like the n64 and GameCube one. I tried the Wii one and I hated it the most probably even more then sticker star. I never played color splash for fear of the last 2 paper Mario games. I hear mixed reviews about color splash. The origami king looks and feels like color splash so I am waiting to get my back catalogue down first and then maybe get it on sale. Maybe. If anybody wants the complete list of games I am working on to know why I am not buying any new games for a while then send me a message lol 😂
Yup, definite pick up for me. Just have to knock out some of the backlog.
No I wanted it to have RPG elements. The series is a shadow of what it used to be. Only way I will buy a Paper Mario game again is if they release a Paper Mario, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door HD Collection.
I'll be picking up my preorder tonight, with mask and hand sanitizer at the ready!
The game looked really cute to me and my young daughters. I've never tried a Paper Mario or Mario RPG title, so I'm going in with no preconceptions. I'll take it as it is and hopefully it's a good time!
I wouldn't be opposed to buying it someday, but only if I was confident the original formula was getting a revival. A purchase at this point would tell Nintendo I want more of the Sticker Star series, which I don't.
@NerdyBoutKirby Just for you know, this has NOTHING to do with Sticker Star. Just because there's no leveling it doesn't make it another SS...
In fact, Color Splash was already a way better game. Pretty enjoyable, if you ask me. And this one is apparently better in every way.
Sadly Amazon hasn't even shipped mine yet so next week hopefully
I don't think so. The next £40+ game I get will be Dragon Quest XI. and I have loads on my wish list that tickle my fancy way more.
Looks cool, I hope everyone enjoys it, it just hasn't got me as excited as I thought it would.
@gcunit The battles give money and recharge the confetti. Is not like you can avoid a lot if they. The player need get itens and acessories, rescue many, many, many toads, fix ways. The battles are not pointless like you describe, but the evolution dont is in levels.
@the_beaver They do look like they're improving each time, I'll give them that. But I stand by my comment.
A few hours into it now. I agree with reviews that if you feverishly want a return to form, you might as well skip it. Otherwise this game is super fun so far, I don't see what the big deal is
Digital copy unlocked for me last night and I had a lot of fun with it once I got past the painfully rudimentary tutorials.
I was convinced at the eleventh hour - mostly by the music and the humour. I've got my copy - with magnets and origami set of course.
Just wanted to come in and recommend Bug Fables as something much closer to the Mario rpgs than Paper Mario will ever be again. They think the changes have improved the series, and Miyamoto will slap down anyone who thinks otherwise.
I enjoyed Bug Fables a lot, and it helped me accept that Paper Mario is a lost cause that I don't need to hold hope for anymore. Everyone should go try it! It's got so many neat, unique npc designs and imaginative worldbuilding!
Got it already and the battle system seems ok thus far. Looking forwrd to play it on tv cause that 1000 arm thing is a bit of a one on the old handheld. My joy con seemed to drift even though it doesn't on any other game. Good news i can pick up my tv tomorrow its been fixed yes!.
@LArachelDisciple pssssstttt we all know about bug fables at this point.
So far my favorite part of the game is filling holes with confetti, like the paint in Color Splash I like to see the world come together. The battle system is so bad that I don't want to battle. There was another game (Radiant Historia) that had you moving enemies around the field to increase effectiveness and I thought that the battles got old quickly in that game too.
I wonder, if they released a patch that made combat 100% optional, how many people would completely avoid combat?
@Crockin No kidding, it's like people are getting paid to promote Bug Fables in Paper Mario threads.
@bones I turned off the motion controls for the 1000 arm thing right away.
@Crono1973 I mean, it looks like a great game! I'll probably play it. Just a little worn out from people moaning on and on and on and on and on over this. We get it, you don't want these games lol. You can also like both! Or not! Next
Between this site review calling the battles a slog, and another prominent game site review stating that the boss battles can be extremely frustrating, I'll pass. Sounds too much like my experience with Trials of Mana. The regular battles in ToM, and even some of the boss battles, were doable, but some of the boss battles were ridiculously frustrating for me. I was able to slog through several by just letting my AI party members die, but finally succumbed to 'what's the point'.
Was stoked to get it, but the reviews stating the difficulty spikes were rough mean it's a no-go for me. I play games to relax, life is a nightmare enough on its own.
@Anti-Matter The high price of TTYD coupled with the fact that it crashes almost all emulation makes it a fine candidate for re-release eventually.
@Crockin Sorry...
I thought people might have heard of it, but not been sure about it yet without a recommendation. I'm not being paid, I'm just trying to help the dissatisfied find something they may like.
Sorry again. I didn't know others had said the same already.
Nah, I have never been a fan of Paper Mario and this is just something that I feel no need to own. I might consider it if it's on sale or something but it's not a game that I am in any rush to buy.
I’ll maybe buy a paper mario game after Miamoto retires.
Nope, Ghost of Tsushima got my money today. Might get Paper Mario later.
I bought Bug Fables instead and it's amazing
@dskatter Agreed
@DawgP “ If you really enjoy the game, that's great! It's good that the time and effort went into making the game found an audience and it brings them enjoyment. But that doesn't invalidate the feelings of betrayal and abandonment of those who fell in love with a franchise that has changed into something unrecognizable from what it used to be and who don't like what it's become.”
thats how I feel when nintendo takes out any “challenge” out of thier newer games. I can’t get excited for the adventure anymore : (
Nowadays I consider these new paper mario games spin-offs from the original 2, I did like super paper mario tho as a stand alone game but id prefer a sequel to ttyd
Seeing how abysmal most of the reviews are, safe to say I’m avoiding this one.
Played it most of yesterday & will soon be playing again ....
@DoktorTotenKopf reviews were not abysmal lol, mostly 8s and 9s.
I love the majority of Nintendo's IPs and grew up with them. The Paper Mario series is one of the few that peaked early and got consecutively worse with each iteration. Nintendo losing its magic.
@Crockin not from the people and pages I frequent. 🤣
@DoktorTotenKopf gamefaqs?
@LArachelDisciple is the music any good because its amazing in oragami king.
@DoktorTotenKopf are you friends with a bunch of people who live under a rock.. been playing this game with my daughter and having an blast. If anyone wants bug fables and paper mario you will be getting two fantastic games.
@KnightsTemplar It's got some pretty memorable tracks, I think. My favorites include:
FIGHT!
It’s Getting Scary!
In the Halls of the Ant Queen
Team, This One’s Stronger!
Work that Honey
Cruel Beast, Devourer of Journeys
Mothiva’s Grand Stand
You can judge for yourself here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjJvHhxol80&list=PL6_GDFAu6F50au-JZ1eWa0OnUA1k3cU60&index=1
@Fulgor_Astral,
I meant the majority of Nintendolife readers. When you saw the comment section of the Nintendolife review, almost everyone was negative. And on that other article too (about Miyamoto's restrictions) understandably (Miyamoto is insane). Then again I found also 2 articles on this site where the people where actually excited. And then there's still the silent majority, of course.
That being said: I still think this will be another sales-record for Nintendo. The silent majority is still the biggest, and almost everything is a massive succes on Switch.
LOLno.
A site I like to frequent every now and then dumped hard on this game and even compared it to being "Colour Splash 2".
Miss me with this misfire, chief.
@Henmii you may be right. Cant wait to see sales numbers.
@OctoAori20 could you provide the name of the site?
@Shworange hopefully it will happen soon ♡♡♡
@LArachelDisciple thinking so much on getting this. Thanks for the recommendation!
If it had gone back to its RPG roots I would have absolutely bought it. This... Is not for me.
@LArachelDisciple I did pick up bug fables this weekend and have been really enjoying it. This is what I wanted from a paper Mario.
@LArachelDisciple cheers for the reply. Having a listen right now. Music is what sells a game for me.....
@Crockin mostly German YouTubers and a few mates I work with.
@KnightsTemplar my own daughter and I prefer the earlier paper Mario games and the Mario and Luigi RPGs. Old school.
@DoktorTotenKopf if it was on the switch.... i would love it to. We have no other console but the switch
There is no way a kid under the age of 13 wouldnt like this game unless the father is ultra negative about the game.. the game ooozes charm and the music is wonderful
@KnightsTemplar I am thinking of getting it for my daughter for her 10th next month. We’ll see. Is there a demo available for it?
@KnightsTemplar if we had all the Mario and Luigi RPGs on Switch, I would be thrilled. I’m still saddened we never got Partners in Time for 3DS...
@Crockin I may get it for my little one in August for her birthday. I just prefer the older games and gameplay mechanics.
This became my second favorite Paper Mario game right after Paper Mario 64, its amazing!
Nah, it's not for me. Especially what with Tanabe's comments about it being impossible to modify Mario characters or create original characters "that touch on the Mario universe". I don't want another game where more than half of the cast are multicoloured Toads and SMB1 enemies, and the music doesn't seem very good either.
@G-Boy i dunno maybe try it before you dis it
@KnightsTemplar If a demo of the game was available on the eShop, I would probably have tried it out day one. But I don't feel like spending money on it right now (though it's not impossible that something will convince me to get it in the future).
Paper Mario on Wii was one of my favorite games on the system. I bought STicker Star the day it came out on 3DS and still haven't opened it. Actually I DID open it for the Club Nintendo points, but never put it in my 3ds. haha
I need to find that game and try to play it first. I've moved 3 times since then. Hope I didn't lose it.
In a pre-COVID world, I would already bee playing it, but since I pre-ordered the physical version from Amazon, I’m still waiting for it to arrive. They used to have release-date delivery on games.
I think I might just go digital in the future, but I still love physical games.
I finished it.If someone need details about the game, I put some on this topic of forum: https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/paper_mario_origami_similiraties_with_rpgs_and_previous_titles
