surprised at such a positive review given how much negativity I've seen around the game re: music, graphics, performance, level design, and it being a cash-grab.
I really don't get the people complaining that it doesn't have every KoF or Fatal Fury game.
When the NGMini dropped, there were so many complaints that there were too many fighting games. Now SNK drops a collection with solid variety across multiple genres and people find a reason to complain anyways...
Honestly, I was hoping they would do this, but given there have been so many better SNK collections (SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1 on Wii, for example) I can't justify this unless it adds new features to the games (training, online, etc).
ACA are too barebones ports to justify these collections, IMO. It's a different story with the Taito collections since some of those are first time ports.
As someone who isn't a DOOM supernerd, how is this different from my already existing eShop copy of DOOM? Or is this just an update to that? The trailer looks pretty similar to me...
When I was a kid, I generally thought the SNES was better than the Genesis. As I grew older, I grew less impressed by the trumpety, "fart-y" soundchip and the low number of high quality action games. Now as an adult, my Genesis gets much more play than my SNES, as for every Contra III: the Alien Wars there is the superior Alien Soldier or Gunstar Heroes.
For every Axelay there are dozens more titles like Truxton, Thunder Force III, Lightening Force, Bio Hazard Battle and Sagaia to name a few.
I think the SNES is good for young kids and RPG fans (hell I grew up with it), but if you want action games the Genesis is unbeatable.
Now the TG-16 is a dark horse with some absolutely incredible games but it looks like this is HuCard only and some real bangers are CD only.
I don't mean any offense, but it sounds like you were the wrong person for this review. My #1 question was "how does this compare to the previously well-reviewed entries in the series?" And this sounds like a reviewer who never played those and if they did, they wouldn't like them anyways.
This game was one of my bigger disappointments in recent memory. And for those wondering, don't bother with "dramatic mode"- waste of money. It's entirely in Japanese with subs, meaning you are expected to read WHILE shmupping!
The Switch's worst enemy. Randomly high input lag across the board and variable between docked and handheld. About 2 frame extra on average compared to other platforms.
Considering buying these individually would add up to $100+ CAD, this is a no-brainer for me.
Metal Black and Gun Frontier are excellent, Dino REX is an incredibly rare game and a long time coming, and Darius II 3-screen has never been released on console before.
I'm a longtime Bayonetta superfan, bought the original game no less than FOUR times, bought the anime, and own every title on almost every platform and I have absolutely ZERO, I mean ZERO interest in this game.
I hope the series gets back on track with the next entry after how disappointing 3 was. This just seems... like it has nothing to do with Bayonetta.
No F-Zero No Star Fox One Mario game One Zelda game (thats actually a Wii U game) No original Mario Kart A bunch of lame kirby games (sorry kirby fans) Some weird games as a service stuff and then PORTS from console that had BETTER libraries.
The only reason you'd pick switch is if you never had a Nintendo console before. It's most warmed over ports of old games at full price.

Re: Review: Clock Tower: Rewind (Switch) - Pre-RE Survival Horror That's Elevated By Extras
Is it any easier? The game was incredibly punishing on SNES...
Re: Nintendo Museum Overseas Visitors Reportedly Breaking 'No Photos' Rule
I always find it funny when Japanese places have "no photos" signs.
Like, what are you gonna do about it? You can't stop people. It's a museum.
This should not be a surprise.
Re: F-Zero Climax Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Free Course
20 years since the last F-Zero... Yikes. That makes me sad.
Re: Three More Sega Classics Are Being Revived, It's Claimed
@Samalik better late than never lmao
Re: Review: Irem Collection Volume 1 (Switch) - Three Great Games, But One Slim Package
@SillyG Different collections. Darius Cozmic Collection, Darius Cozmic Revelation, and Ray'z Arcade Chronology. Excellent releases.
Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection Now In Development
@NinChocolate They are much more fun and forgiving than the classic Raiden games, IMO.
Still tough, but very rewarding, well-made games. Peak of the Raiden series, IMO!
Re: Gimmick! 2 (Switch) Review: A Fluid, Feel-Good Platformer That Lives Up To Its Name
surprised at such a positive review given how much negativity I've seen around the game re: music, graphics, performance, level design, and it being a cash-grab.
But hey, if it's fun, it's fun.
Re: Three More Sega Classics Are Being Revived, It's Claimed
@Samalik yes i actually speak the language lmao
Re: Online Multiplayer And DLC Are Coming To Cruis'n Blast
Still waiting for online

Re: Braid: Anniversary Edition Sales Have Been "Utterly Terrible", Says Creator
I can't be the only person who avoided this because the dev is a real jerk, right?
Re: Review: SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos (Switch) - A Great-Looking But Painfully Average Fighter
I don't get the hate for this game. It's perfectly fun! Of course its busted so is marvel 2 who cares.
Re: Taito Milestones 3 For Switch Locks In Japanese Release, Here Are The 10 Games Included
Whoever wrote the press release buried the lead.
RASTAN SAGA III FIRST EVER PORT!!!!!!!!!!! WE WINNING BOYS!!!!!
Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Costs $60 On Switch
Nah, I'm good. Especially considering it's made by Forever Entertainment.

This makes the article borderline useless.
Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath Of The Mutants (Switch) - Coin-Op Co-Op Cowabummer
y'know, its funny. Arcade games are all about replayability- you're supposed to beat them on a single credit. They're like roguelikes.
But because people use infinite credits/dont care about score people think they are short.
Honestly, I'm interested in this just because its rare to see late stage arcade games get ports to home consoles.

Re: Dreamcast Shooter 'Rainbow Cotton' Is Getting A Remake On Switch
I wonder if NL will report on the controversy around SLG that's been popping up online. I've been seeing articles and a lot of buzz on discord/reddit.
I only mention it because I believe SLG is supposed to do physical for this game, which means its not gonna happen, sadly.
Re: Creators Of New Switch Emulator 'Suyu' Hope To Avoid Nintendo's Wrath
@dew12333 why on earth would you wish for that? Emulation is the only way to preserve the console's library.
Re: Hi-Fi Rush Datamine Lends Weight To Switch Port Rumours
@BrazillianCara My worries exactly... Probably should have waited for Switch 2...
Re: Three More Sega Classics Are Being Revived, It's Claimed
@Samalik you don't know what localization means
Re: Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour Returns In 2024 - Games, Announcements & More
@roy130390 I mean, Piccolo (via Kami, who he fused with) CREATED the Dragon Balls, so I don't think it's an unearned powerup.
Re: Oh Dear, Contra: Operation Galuga's Physical Edition Is A Download Code In A Box
Yeah, that's gonna be a pass for me
Re: Random: More Kids Want In-Game Currency Over Physical Media This Holiday
COVID played a huge role in this.
Re: Review: Irem Collection Volume 1 (Switch) - Three Great Games, But One Slim Package
@Sisilly_G at least Taito's collections are handled by M2 and feature robust practise and save state options as well as gadgets and QoL features.
Disappointed to learn how barebones this is. Not even a quick restart feature? Yeesh.
Re: Hori Unveils New Dragon Quest Slime-Themed Switch Controllers
Why Hori refuses to do wireless is beyond me...
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate That Nintendo Indie World Showcase?
It's too bad more people have to play Braid. Miserable game by an awful person.
Re: F2P eShop Title 'Omega Strikers' Ends Development Just Months After Launch
Where did they get the money for this?
Re: Talking Point: Along With Joy-Con Drift, What Does Nintendo Have To 'Fix' With 'Switch 2'?
Input lag!
The Switch's worst enemy. Randomly high input lag across the board and variable between docked and handheld. About 2 frame extra on average compared to other platforms.
Re: Embracer Group Reportedly Looking To Sell Borderlands Dev Gearbox Entertainment
Maybe they shouldn't have bought them in the first place if this is what they were going to do!
Re: Review: Taito Milestones 2 - A Better Selection With The Fabulous Triple-Screen Darius II
@KingOhger This is the incredibly rare Darius II 3-screen version, never before released in any way, shape or form.
Only two cabinets are known to exist.
Re: Review: Taito Milestones 2 - A Better Selection With The Fabulous Triple-Screen Darius II
@romanista only the two screen version. The 3 screen is incredibly rare.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
I've heard switch performance is really bad. Apparently even music won't play and it's 20fps?
Re: Forever Entertainment Hints At New Remake Announcement In 2023
Please spare us. Panzer Dragoon was passable but House of the Dead was straight up BAD.
Re: Taito Classic 'Parasol Stars' Is Getting A Revival On The Switch
Revival? Or a port?
Re: Hori Unveils Brand New Sonic And Pac-Man Switch 'Split Pad Compact' Designs
Are these wireless? I use the flip grip a lot so I'm intrigued but no wireless means no buy
Re: M2's 'Kyukyoku Tiger-Heli Collection' For Switch Has Been Rated By The ESRB
I'll just buy from Japan. Not interested in waiting 16 months for the game.
Re: Soapbox: For This First-Timer, Summer Game Fest Felt Like A Perfect E3 Antidote
I preferred Guerilla Collective since the games were more unique, but summer games fest was ok
Re: Taito Milestones 2 Collects Even More Arcade Archives Titles On Switch This August
Considering buying these individually would add up to $100+ CAD, this is a no-brainer for me.
Metal Black and Gun Frontier are excellent, Dino REX is an incredibly rare game and a long time coming, and Darius II 3-screen has never been released on console before.
The rest is icing on the cake!
Re: RayStorm X RayCrisis HD Collection Brings Two Taito Shmup Masterpieces To Switch
@Doctor-Moo Its not coming until June at the earliest.
But yeah, the SLG collection is better. Not having RayForce is a real detriment. It's the best game in the collection!
Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Franchise Should Illumination Tackle Next?
none, i'm good thank you!
Re: Review: Bayonetta Origins: Cereza And The Lost Demon - A Placid Prequel For Platinum's Star

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Console Has The Best First-Party Games Lineup?
Switch is weakest by a country mile.
No F-Zero
No Star Fox
One Mario game
One Zelda game (thats actually a Wii U game)
No original Mario Kart
A bunch of lame kirby games (sorry kirby fans)
Some weird games as a service stuff
and then PORTS from console that had BETTER libraries.
The only reason you'd pick switch is if you never had a Nintendo console before. It's most warmed over ports of old games at full price.
Re: Review: Tales of Symphonia Remastered - A GameCube Classic That Shows Its Age On Switch
sounds like if I want to revisit this one I'm better off with the original GCN version...
Re: Taito's Action Platformer 'The NewZealand Story' Is This Week's Arcade Archives Game
@CharlieGirl the save state deletes itself if you finish the game. You're also forced into it on boot up.
It's not a real save state IMO.
Re: Toplan's Arcade Bullet Hell 'Batsugun' Has Been Rated For Switch
I got excited and then saw it's an "S-Tribute" version and not M2...
I'll just wait for M2. Playing Batsugun wtih 6 frames of input lag is a nightmare.
Re: Review: Drainus - A Spectacular, Showboating Tour De Force For Sci-Fi Shmup Fans
Waiting on my physical copy!
I'm a pretty seasoned shmup player so it being easy is concerning, but the occasional breezy playthrough should still be fun!
Re: Taito's Action Platformer The NewZealand Story Is This Week's Arcade Archives Game
@SpringDivorce I mean, 40 games with a dedicated machine and 4 save state slots is pretty good (ACA games dont even have save states)
