"We’ve now reached the tenth game in the Sega Ages series, and it’s safe to say the project has been a resounding success"
Releases coming out months late, a mixed bag of readily available titles in other, cheaper collections and games that aren't deserving of re-releases alongside the fact that M2 refuses to release Saturn, Naomi, Dreamcast, Model 2 or 3 games?
Given the overwhelmingly negative review, I'm surprised this still got a 5.
Tbh the SEGA AGES collection on switch is kinda bumming me out. It feels like most of the titles are either re dos of Sega 3D classics or or just games that aren't all that exciting. The only real "wow" release was Thunder Force IV and maybe Virtua Racing and there just doesn't seem to be much else to get excited about on top of the drip feed of titles...
Gotta be honest, outside of WB and HZ this is kinda disappointing. . . Arcade shinobi isn't great and the rest are a bit underwhelming too. It's hard to get excited when the line seems to be intentionally avoiding model 2, 3, Naomi, Saturn, and DC games and is so behind schedule...
I actually quite enjoyed this game. The combo system is way more complex than anything in the Beat Em Up Bundle (barring maybe Battle Circuit) and the combat feels really chunky and heavy.
The graphics make it hard to look at for extended periods, though.
I'm still on the fence. I wanted something more like Sonic Mania- gorgeous pixel art with smooth animations, a true sequel to the original. This looks like it doesn't capture the mood and tone of the original at all.
I was so excited for this game, hoping for a new Metal Slug style shooter. I was so let down right from the start. The first mission is a collect-a-thon!
As one of the biggest fans of SNK and this game in particular I have to strongly disagree with this review.
Shipping a fantastic fighting game without a TRAINING mode or even ONLINE PLAY should knock serious points off of this version of the game. Espec. when other platforms have smiliarly priced editions with online and training (and achievements!).
"Produced to compete with Capcom's legendary Street Fighter II"
Not true! Fatal Fury was made by ex-Capcom staffers who worked on Street Fighter 1! It wasn't made as a reaction to SFII and was actually developed in tandem and released the same year.
The game's control configuration ONLY allows you to adjust face buttons and does NOT allow for button macros. So some moves will be borderline impossible with an arcade stick!
"Limited pre-launch time for 'Indie' developer access to dev kits"
Yes there are developers whining about not getting kits, but there are also developers who haven't been whining, and thus may have kits. Like Choice Provisions.

Re: PlatinumGames Reveals New "Next-Generation" Game Engine
@nessisonett they always had and used their own in-house engine.
Re: Nintendo Download: 12th March (North America)
glad nicalis isn't involved in la mulana. . .
Re: Bandai Namco Delays The Release Of Billion Road In The West
Is this a momotetsu ripoff?
Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Switch Online Good Value Compared To PlayStation Plus And Xbox Live Gold?
The answer: No.
You aren't paying for anything. It used to be free, and Nintendo isn't hosting servers for anyone except, sometimes, themselves.
There isn't even party chat.
NSO sucks.
Re: Untitled Goose Game Grabs Game Of The Year At DICE 2020 Awards, Here Are All The Winners
Goose Game is a meme... There were incredible achievements in game design this year and the meme takes the top award.
I'm at a loss.
Re: PlatinumGames Wants To Bring The Complete Bayonetta Series To Other Platforms
There's an error in the article. Nintendo does not own "half the IP" of Bayonetta.
It is owned wholly by SEGA. Nintendo simply licensed it and published the sequel game.
Not sure where that rumor started, but it's completely unsourced.
Re: Poll: What Other Wii U Games Do You Want To See On Switch?
none. no more. make new games please nintendo.
Re: Dangen Entertainment CEO Steps Down After Harassment Allegations Surface
@somebread he was not the guy who said 'anime fan on prom night'
Re: Meet Vertebreaker, A Retro Platformer From Sonic Mania Devs That's Just Hit Kickstarter
Aren't these guys millionaires after Sonic Mania? Why do they need kickstarter? Did SEGA not pay them?
Re: Shinobi Expected To Be The Next Sega Ages Game Released In Japan
Ugh... This AGES line has been super disappointing... This continues the trend... Switch will be on its way out and we won't have any Saturn games.
Re: Review: Whipseey And The Lost Atlas - A Kirby Clone That's Over In The Blink Of An Eye
I'm into games being short. I'll give this a look.

I don't think I'd call it a success...

Re: It Looks Like SpeedRunners Is Racing Onto The Nintendo Switch
@Abeedo more like Runbow with less maps, less modes, no real SP options, less players, less characters, etc.
In reality the games are quite different.
Re: Feature: Whatever Happened To The Sega-Style Racer '90s Super GP?
As far as I have heard this is due to Nicalis and their VERY shady business practises. Essentially stole the game from Pelikan13.
Re: Review: Mother Russia Bleeds - A Tepid Beat 'Em Up That's Big On Gore But Low On Gratification

Re: Over 50% Of Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers Have Purchased The Annual Plan
@marnelljm
amen
Why would I pay for something that was free and hasn't gotten any better?
Re: Video: See The Switch Remake Of '80s Arcade Classic Toki In Action With This Gameplay Trailer
This has to be the worst sound design/music I've ever experienced in a video game.
The visuals are ok but the sound effects are awful and terribly mixed.

I'm still on the fence. I wanted something more like Sonic Mania- gorgeous pixel art with smooth animations, a true sequel to the original. This looks like it doesn't capture the mood and tone of the original at all.
Re: Zen Studios Acquires Bally And Williams Pinball Licence, Tables Headed To Pinball FX3
Wow. So they basically pulled the rights out from under FarSight. . .
I'm down though. I was not interested in Pinball FX since it's not "real" pinball but now I'm interested.
Re: Review: Code Of Princess EX (Switch)
Those screenshots look kinda janky. The sprite-scaling seems off.
I bought this back on 3DS, and I wasn't super impressed with it. The combat is surprisingly sluggish.
Re: Welcome To Jurassic Pinball, Launching 25th May On Nintendo Switch
$2 is not a bad price for a table, so if it has TATE and its good enough I'll pick it up, especially since TPA lost all the bally and williams tables.
But... I can't find any information on this pinball table? Is it REALLY a recreation table?
Re: Talking Point: Does Sega's AGES Announcement Mean The Virtual Console Is Dead?
The virtual console (and the ACA series) were barebones rom dumps.
These releases and the special collections (SNK, Street fighter, Megaman & X Legacy, Namco Museum) are way better.
RIP VC, but what we have now is better...
Re: Real Bout Fatal Fury Special Comes Out Fighting On Switch Next Week
Will it have training mode? Nope.
Will it have online mode? Nope.
Will it have a crappy switch icon? Yup.
Re: Rumour: Is This Really Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Running On Switch?
I'd much prefer Tatsunoko vs Capcom, tbh...
Re: Review: Mercenary Kings Reloaded (Switch eShop)

Ugh.
Re: Team17 Is Bringing Raging Justice To Switch This Year
This looks like a bad freeware title... I think Team17 might be backing the wrong horse here... :/
Re: Video: The 26 Best Game Boy Advance Games of All Time
No gunstar super heroes?
No Astro Boy Omega Factor?
Ha.
Re: Review: Celeste (Switch eShop)
I'm surprised at the high score. Looks like a fun but fairly basic platformer.
Re: Bayonetta 1 And 2 Are Getting A Special Edition Bundle With All The Trimmings
North America? Is it EU only?
I hope we don't get shafted again. . .

dig dug
Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?
I'm liking Odyssey, but it's far from my favourite or what I think is 'the best' - it's just shiny and new.
It's fantastic, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's best.
Re: Feature: Castlevania Season 1 Review: Plenty Of Blood, Bad Language And Bite
I heard really bad things about the animation and dialogue, but have yet to check them out. Hopefully they improve.
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd June (North America)
Isn't Runbow Pocket out, too? :/

Re: Garou: Mark of the Wolves Punches Its Way to the Switch eShop Soon
@faint Yes I have. You can't assign buttons to triggers or assign macros. It's laughable.
Re: Garou: Mark of the Wolves Punches Its Way to the Switch eShop Soon
No online. No training mode. No button configuration.
Ugh. No effort!
Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
Once the price drops, I'll grab it.
It's more expensive than the original MK8 and I already played a lot of that so it's hard for me to justify.
Re: Video: Here's Exactly What's New And Different In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
This version costs more than the Wii U version did at launch... So, I'm probably gonna sit this one out.
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th April (North America)
I really don't like ACA re-releases of fighting games. They have no practice/training mode and no online. In short, they kinda blow.

Re: Metal Slug Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch eShop This Week
@neufel It's just another adventure. It's an all-around solid (and beautiful) game, but it's not fundamentally unique.
Re: Review: Neo Turf Masters (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
Hands-down best golf game I've ever played.
Re: Review: The King of Fighters '98 (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
PSA for anyone planning on picking this up:

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th March (North America)
WARNING:
all the NEO GEO games have sound desync issues and washed out colors on Switch. Hamster says a patch is incoming.
Re: Nintendo Download: 19th January (North America)
Anyone else surprised NL hasn't reported on NEO GEO games coming to Switch?
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd December (North America)
There's a pretty huge sale going on

@LegendOfPokemon There most definitely is cross-buy. Says right there in the review. And the trailer
