Re: Video: Digital Foundry Talks 8-Inch 'Switch 2' Screen, Joy-Con Compatibility

Does he have actual statistics for how people use the system, or is he presuming that “most people” use it the same way he does?

In 8 years I’ve never felt the need to buy a pro controller - I’m perfectly happy with unclipped joy-cons. But I don’t blame people who prefer the Pro.

The beauty of the system is that the modular design allows people to play however they want. On-board controls and separate Pros would feel like a step back, removing some of the system’s flexible appeal.

Re: E3 Has Been Cancelled, Permanently

Say what you will about the other events that have supplanted and undermined it, but none hold a candle to E3 in its’ prime.

That prime is long gone, but I personally don’t get half as excited for the Game Awards or Summer Game Fest or any given Nintendo Direct as I used to about E3. It felt like a week long celebration of all things gaming, with all the major players trying to trump each other.

Re: Sakurai Is Sceptical That Future Smash Bros. Titles Can Match Ultimate's Scope

To everyone who says “Smash Ultimate Deluxe” on Switch 2: no.

It worked with Mario Kart 8, because the Wii U sold so poorly. To the vast majority of Switch owners, it was a new game. To the ones who did buy a Wii U, the Switch version offered portability, and a proper Battle Mode.

The Switch and Smash Ultimate both sold bucketloads. The Switch 2 would need to bring something amazing to the table to make it worth double-dipping.

A full reboot is more likely. But again, it needs to really distinguish itself from Ultimate to avoid feeling like a step backwards.

Re: Takashi Iizuka Explains Timeline Placement Of Sonic Superstars

@samuelvictor @Vexx234 thanks both, that’s interesting background.

My understanding was that both Sonic 4 and Mania explicitly reference the “Death Egg Trilogy” and Sonic CD in their plots, so both are canonically sequels to S3&K, they just both happen to remix a lot of earlier stages/bosses etc.

And yeah, Mania is vastly superior.

I seem to recall around the release of Mania they made some confusing statements about split timelines (due to Generations?) with Mania being the de facto Sonic 4 in the “classic” timeline, and S4 Episodes 1&2 being in the original/“modern” timeline. But now they’re saying it’s all one timeline after all, just not clarifying how any of it actually makes sense?

I mean yeah, it’s a blue hedgehog harassing a fat man with a moustache, plot is entirely irrelevant for the purposes of enjoying the games, it doesn’t need to make sense so long as it’s fun, I don’t need to overthink it. It just feels like if they’re going to the effort of hiring a Lore Keeper, they recognise that it matters to some people.

@samuelvictor yeah, I played it a couple of years back and liked it well enough.

I’d not heard that the Sonic 4s are a reimagining though. Yeah, there’s plenty of old bits rehashed, but the same’s true of Mania, which they’re now saying is part of the One True Timeline. Is that reimagining line the official stance?
