I bought this game in the airport Duty Free at the start of a holiday where I’d foolishly not actually packed my GB, so I had to wait a whole extra week to play it. Cracked it open at 2:00 am when we finally got home, much to mum’s despair, and loved every second of it.
More seriously, Nintendo’s tweet only showed 4 characters. We know there’s at least 6 more who didn’t get that character art treatment. Until the game ships, we don’t know for certain that she’s not in the base game (though yeah her absence from any promo clips does make it seem increasingly unlikely).
But let’s not let that stand in the way of jumping to conclusions, yeah?
@Shiryu gotta say, I find the pink triangles on certain games almost as distracting and annoying as the silver boxes…. Never could work out the reason - is it EU-PAL vs UK-PAL?
@Stubborn_Monkey @Joriss @BobLong-RickTangle @Clyde_Radcliffe @blindsquarel @Rhaoulos I never said it was a bad game! Just that it’s ARGUABLY the weakest of the 3D Marios. Personally I’d argue it’s the weakest (and it’s not a completely unpopular opinion, this site ranks it 6th out of 7 on user votes) but as @Silly_G said: “Even the "worst" 3D Mario game would wipe the floor with the majority of the 3D platforming genre.”
Pros: great theme, awesome music, and FLUDD seriously changes up the gameplay.
Cons: too few levels, leading to much padding (LOTS of repeated missions), everything to do with blue coins, some overly frustrating missions.
Still a good game overall. But I think more people would rank it as “weakest 3D Mario” than “best 3D Mario”.
@Indielink that’s interesting. Though I imagine the Venn diagram of “people that buy DLC” and “people that buy the NSO Expansion sub” has a lot of crossover
@Bret different situation though. Other than GamePass, those are all post-release price drops to draw in new customers.
In this case, there are people who paid for the DLC, and then also paid for the NSO Expansion, so in effect they’re paying an additional premium for content they already own (albeit in addition to other software, and ending the NSO sub won’t take the expansion away).
Yeah, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m not really that fussed. Mainly just wondering how many people own Spla2n but not the DLC to take advantage of this.
Hmmm. I’m still struggling to see anything to justify this being a sequel and not an expansion of #2.
Yes, new levels, and yes, new weapons. But mechanically, what’s stopping them from being DLC to the existing game?
That grappling line move looks very cool, but that’s just the 1 weapon, right? Would be so much more interesting if that was a standard new feature for everyone. It’s a game-changer, but it’s been limited in scope. Same with the ball-tank - don’t make it a preset weapon, make it a feature of certain levels or modes that players will fight for control of.
I had similar misgivings about Spla2n adding the dodge roll but only for the dual guns. But at least that added Salmon Run (and eventually Octolings).
I just feel like the original was a charming and quirky explosion of inventive ideas, but the sequels are relatively minor iterations that don’t have the same level of unique identity.
Also I massively miss the mini-games in the waiting room.
Is “ Princess and Fairytales Jigsaw Puzzles - Princesses Fairy Tales Intelligence Trainer Kids Games Learning Game for Girls & Boys” the longest game title yet?
With the huge number of games releasing each week, I can’t help but wonder how many of them actually sell enough units to cover their production costs…. Are there that many people buying “Air Hockey Puzzles”…?
@Not_Soos I read Iwata’s book a couple of months ago, and completely agree with you. His warmth and passion for both video games and his co-workers really shone through, and his tips for being an ethical and compassionate leader should be in any Management 101 course.
@nocdaes “December doesn't get big game releases.”
Wind Waker says “hi”, as do Spirit Tracks, Mario Karts 64 and 7, and Smash Bros Ultimate.
Though yeah, they’re the minority. November was the most likely target, especially for Zelda (6 of the core titles, 11 counting remakes and spin-offs, all launched in November).
LoZ: Breath of the Wild 2: Breathe Wilder LoZ: 2 Breath 2 Wild LoZ: Electric Breathaloo LoZ: Breath of the Wild 2 (Tentative Title) (Final Title) Super LoZ: Breath of the Wild 2 Turbo X & Knuckles (featuring Dante from Devil May Cry 2)
Or, because the “back to basics” approach worked well when applied to gameplay…

Is the Arcade version of PAC-Land much better than the NES game? I hated every minute of that…

You’re all mad. Those silver GC games are an abomination that make an otherwise tidy shelf of games look a mess.
