I LOVE Switch Sports, but basketball is hot garbage.
The controls are not quite what they should be, but the real issue is playing online is terrible.
Your teammate will likely never pass, always shoot, and you'll just watch them brick shots. There is no incentive for them to not play like a stupid ball hog jerk.
Unless you go online with someone local there is no reason to play online.
I've had half of my games end in disconnect as someone gave up and quit - I've not seen anything like it in my many, many hours playing online.
@Kehkou - Basketball was not in Club. Club only had the original 5 (Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Boxing, Bowling) w/largely worse controls and terrible online.
Hmmm - my initial play of the mode says the motion controls aren't as well implemented as in the other games, which is a big disappointment b/c the motion controls are what makes Switch Sports such an amazing unique experience.
This would explain why they don't feel right or up to Nintendo's usual standards.
There is NOTHING in all of gaming that provides an experience like Switch Sports.
Absolutely NOTHING.
I Love Nintendo for continuing to support this amazing experience. It's #2 on my Switch for time spent this year behind Zelda: TotK.
The online play is handled so well (Offline is pointless and if you are going to only play offline skip the game)
While there are some small issues I have with some of the inputs (why every video golfing game ever made makes 1 inch shots harder than 2 foot shots I'll never know), the experience is simply unlike anything else in gaming and it is so good.
I'll be throwing down some serious B-Ball this weekend!
This is one of our top played games in our library of over 100 Switch titles.
Soccer with a leg strap online is my favorite experience in gaming of this generation. The strategy of volleyball makes it very interesting to play and golf is fantastic!
I can't wait for basketball and appreciate the gift from Nintendo. Big win in my book!
@Switcher Just show up. There isn't any registration, though in my experience there is usually a line of people waiting to get in before they open and it is packed during easy access hours. Pick up a stamp card and fill it in to get some swag. Play games, snap photos, try to find enough space to walk through the sections. Lots of fun!
Can't wait! I've done these before and it is a lot of fun - though as a hard core Nintendo fan there isn't much I don't already own. Still - it's like a mini-E3 in terms of atmosphere, good times! I'll be there!
Going a different direction than what the series is known for is dumb. Just make a new game instead of trying to change an existing series. Series exist because people like what they are, not because people want them to be something they aren't.
The games past awakening are all over sexualized. If the only way you can think of a woman is as a scantily clad sex object I'm not interested in your game. Nintendo needs to be more modern, less sexist, more mature, and treat women with more respect in Fire Emblem for me to ever consider getting a new one.
I played an Amico at one of their events (you can see them on youtube) and I really enjoyed it. There was plenty of clunkiness, but at its heart it felt like games for the sake of having fun instead of doing the same thing all the other companies are with the only goal being money.
There was no way they could compete, though they dreamed they'd find a huge audience of people who just wanted to have fun.
The controller was too big to really hold and had some issues staying connected, but I loved the dial on it, it felt like something that could make for some different game play, and the tilt worked well enough to play Evil Knievel, and that game is one I'd buy if it came to Switch, it was a bunch of fun.
Anyway - I get that we want to hate everything we don't understand and that is probably why so many people hate the Amico, AND from my experience playing it, I appreciated what they were trying to do to give us something different than the other consoles, which increasingly all provide the same experience (I'll hold out hope that Nintendo bucks that trend w/Switch 2, but I fear the days of crazy innovation are behind them)
@Solomon_Rambling - I'd be happy to buy 100 different people copies of Driift Mania if they ported it to Switch!
It's honestly a terrible game - and it is so good! There is a line where playing together all fighting the same frustrating controls and crazy modes turns into magic and I've introduced a lot of people to Driift Mania and every time a group has gotten together to play it the result has been a sort of happy frustration.
The amazing WiiWare title Driift Mania (I say that b/c I still play it and have had a lot of multiplayer parties around it)...anyway, that amazing title showed that JUST RACING IS BORING!
There have been a lot of 8 player racing games trying to get in on Sprint's style, and they all fail, b/c JUST RACING IS BORING!
Turn off the power-ups in Mario Kart and you'll find - it is boring.
Driift Mania is fun b/c of the crazy modes (Virus, Hot Potato and best of all Meteor!)
Just recreating Sprint, even with a level editor and 8-player, is going to be a big 'meh.' Don't get me wrong, I'll buy it day 1, but - if those 'obstacle courses' aren't amazing I anticipate this game will quickly be sitting at the bottom of my Switch list of forgotten games.
Did you like the originals or even play them bro!?
Abzu is alright but is more alien adventure than seeing the biological wonder of our own planet.
I'd guess you'd rate the originals badly as well, but since you don't say, we'll have just assume that.
People want to know if this game is like the originals, your review fails.
I'd give your review a 2/10 and recommend Nintendolife remove it and have someone else write it, or that you go back and play the originals, and if you hate them just as much, then share that at the beginning so we can know to ignore what you're saying just like I'd ignore someone who writes a review of a Mario game if they openly hate Mario games.
Hopefully a fix to the awful camera is part of the remake.
I get motion sick easy, but this game has my worst memory of being sick. Many, many hours of nausea and headaches after playing the game for an hour. I love the idea of this game and am terrified to try and play it again.
I'm 160 hours into TotK and still playing ~30 minutes every day.
...and yet I'll tell you, though I thought BotW was the best game ever made w/o question, I like Skyward Sword on Switch better than TotK.
There is place where wandering around a big world feels a bit aimless and boring. I would love to have another story driven Zelda game just to have variety.
After all the discussions that happened around the Amiico, it seems like these games came out w/o any awareness (they may not be good - IDK - I just thought it was curious that they'd released w/o me even knowing they were out or mentioning their connection to Amiico - seems like an interesting story if nothing else)
I was just playing the first one a couple of weeks back and remembered why I'd thought it was so great back in the day. I'd definitely be down to pick it up on Switch and the never released in the US sequel. There is a LOT of text for them to localize though - I can see why that would have been a challenge.
Trine 4 was a hidden gem, I'm guessing b/c T3 turned people off so much that they were able to release a GREAT game and still have people uninterested.
I'm excited to continue into Trine 5. The mechanics of the game and things you can do with abilities are just getting better and better!
Ni no Kuni II - ugh! I so wanted to like that game - and it has some beauty, but the frame rate is awful and overall - when you compare it to Zelda BotW or TotK in action, it just looks terrible. I'm surprised to see it on this list it DOES NOT belong here.
I loved the old Best Buy membership program. Got tons of great deals b/c of it.
I've nearly stopped buying retail, but SM RPG has me thinking to buy at least that game retail - if I got Wonder that way too it would almost be worth it...?
I will definitely pick it up...and hope it runs well on Switch.
NBA Playgrounds was a mess - still fun - but often button presses resulted in NOTHING happening.
NBA Playgrounds 2 - was a TON of fun - I put 35+ hours into it, and didn't have problems with the unlock system at all. The progression of the characters and season mode were much improved and very engaging. My only complaint was wanting more - more characters, more updates, maybe another sequel. It's STILL NOT NBA JAM, but it was a fun game with a great objectives system that made it fun to play.
I agree with the concerns looking at the screenshots. It doesn't look like a fun amusement park to make/visit. The screenshots look dull and lifeless instead of light-hearted and fun.
Even if they get the gameplay right - they are clearly missing the visual appeal. Since I know they aren't getting the visuals right I doubt I will try this - though I was excited to click on this article b/c anytime I hear "Rollercoaster Tycoon" I have happy memories.
Bravoman is a fun surprise. I really enjoyed it on the TGX-16 when it came out a long, long time ago. It is the game I thought of when I first saw ARMS.
This is GREAT news! I love this series and 4 really took the gameplay up a notch with fights that were more than just random button-pressing.
I'm also a huge fan of 9 Parchments - which we have 30+ hours of play on at my house. That was a blast - and is in the Trine world - all about the Astral Academy that is mentioned in the T5 trailer.
I love the Trine series, and even though I see Trine 3 as not a good game - it's still manages to be a lot of fun - sort of like an arcade romp compared to the thoughtful game play of the rest of the series.

@Kyloctopus Thanks for the clarification. I too expect they are winding down, which is too bad - it is a really fun game, online anyway. Offline it is really lacking depth, but online - I'm still playing it 10 months later and enjoying it quite a bit.
...my only complaint? More save spots please! I don't always have 1 hr+ to get to the next one, and others in my family will play the Switch, so suspend isn't the answer.
I've really enjoyed many of the Metroids in that they can have 15-20 minute play sessions between save spots - that fits my active lifestyle better!
I really enjoy it and wish it hadn't seen so much negativity. For my money it was the best game of 2022. Specifically - playing soccer with the leg strap online is so much fun!

I don't agree with or find the list useful for helping me pick out what games I'll buy, but I'm glad others do.
At the same time, I wish there was a review site that reflected my interest in Nintendo. I feel like what makes Nintendo different has been getting more and more lost over the years since Iwata passed away.
Is this list of games any different than the types of games you find on other consoles?
For me: I loved Kirby & Switch Sports this year and am still playing Switch Sports online weekly. I played a lot of the new DLC for Mario Kart. My son and I played through Rogue Heroes. My kids an I continued our 4+ year play of Spelunker Party. My kids and wife kept Animal Crossing going.
Beyond that?
I put a lot of time into Skyward Sword getting to 100% and marveling at how beautiful the game was with camera controls.
I was enthralled by the 'feel' of Phantom Hourglass playing it on my WiiU. It feels like it was made by a Nintendo I remember, but don't see much anymore.
I have enjoyed Samus Returns on my 3DS. It is the rare game that looks so beautiful in 3D!
I restarted playing the Professor Layton with my wife on my DS XL. We're just starting the 3rd game. That series was so amazing!

Re: Review: World Of Goo 2 (Switch) - A Superb Sequel With A Few Sticking Points
Wii pointing was the most under-rated thing of that generation.
WoG on Wii also had multiplayer - and I never would have played it as much w/o that.
I'm interested in the sequel - and can't imagine I have the patience for it.

Re: New RPG From 'Rune Factory' Creator Lands On Switch Next Month
I'll watch for reviews.
The animations look pretty stiff and unpolished in the trailer.
I used to love the RF series, though it peaked at Frontier imo, and has been in decline for a good bit.

Nintendolife failed on this one. I come here to read enthusiast reviews, but instead the review read as:

If you only give us what other sites have you provide nothing!

I only realized today that several of the planned release titles for Intellivision Amiico have released on Switch over the last 4 weeks:
Astrosmash (today)
Shark! Shark! (9/28)
Dynablaster (9/14)
After all the discussions that happened around the Amiico, it seems like these games came out w/o any awareness (they may not be good - IDK - I just thought it was curious that they'd released w/o me even knowing they were out or mentioning their connection to Amiico - seems like an interesting story if nothing else)
