Re: Review: The Touryst - A Visually Stunning Island-Hop That's Loads Of Fun

cyrus_zuo

Looks great, and totally going to get it when it goes on sale.

Why wait? B/C I have a ton of Shin'en games and they all suffer from the same problem - they LOOK amazing, and their design struggles. Fast RMX is a perfect example, I have the game and DLC on multiple platforms. Fun, as long as you don't look too deep at the gameplay itself. Visuals are AMAZING! (or we could talk about Jett Rocket I & II, Nano Assault, Fun! Fun! Minigolf or Art of Balance all of which have the same issue)

Still, I'm totally looking forward to this. It looks lovely and I'm sure will not be a regret to get on sale. I'm hopeful that the variety of game play will make it a perfect title for Shin'en's uncomparable ability to make visuals shine and shine (Shin'en)!

Re: R.B.I. Baseball 20's Trailer Is Curiously Lacking In Gameplay Footage

cyrus_zuo

The biggest issue is the infield singles.
I played ~20 hours of RBI 2019, and <20% of my hits are extra base. Most of the hits dribble through the infield for a single, flyouts happen more in the infield than the outfield.
...and strangely you'll hit the ball right to the pitcher, only to have it bounce off him, SEVERAL times a game.

The physics need a revamp so it's not a singles party.

In the meantime - Super Mega Baseball 2 is a bit arcade-y, but plays great. There is a demo too.

Re: Poll: Vote For Your Favourite Professor Layton Game

cyrus_zuo

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future - a giant among giants!
...except the latest game wasn't a giant, it was really poor .

I'd love to get Switch remakes of the original DS games, I'd be happy to double dip there.
Also, I'm someone who loved the storyline of the Phoenix Wright cross-over, even if I didn't love the courtroom part of it. I found the game very engaging! (I assume it isn't in your list above b/c it was made by Capcom, and your list is in support or paid by Level 5)

Re: Review: Killer Queen Black - A Multiplayer Marvel That's Easy To Pick Up But Hard To Master

cyrus_zuo

@Adam - "I do wish the game allowed for more players local."

YES!
This game is magical in the arcade w/10 people. You NEED all the talking and banter and craziness to make it awesome!
4 people is meh.
I understand you can play two machines if you happen to have 2 TVs sitting next to each other and get 4 on 4.
...but that is stupid.
The screen is the exact same for both teams, there are 8 controllers already on my Switch, there is no reason to need the second system and the highly terrible local connection (we've done this so many times with Mario Kart - it always drops...unless you have no interference from anything it'll drop - oh for the days of the DS when we could get stable connections, 3DS & Switch are both terrible at it).

8 Player LOCAL SAME MACHINE is the sweet spot - this game missed it = this game missed.
It's 4-player SAME MACHINE - and you can play against bots, or online, or try against another nearby Switch.
...which is too bad.

It went from insta-buy to insta-bust.

Back to Runbow, Party Golf, Bomberman and what was that other crazy good 8-player game that managed to play 8-player on a single machine despite it having eSport levels of complexity? Oh Yeah - Smash.

Towerfall's 6-player mode gets an honorable mention here too.

Re: Review: Asphalt 9: Legends - Likeable Burnout-Style Racing Action, If You Play The Right Way

cyrus_zuo

@nmanifold Have you tried Chase Horizon Turbo? It's definitely more of a classic arcade look, but it definitely is an Arcadey Arcade Racer and the races are fun. (check it on metacritic - it's ok and scratches the itch for me when I'm looking for an Arcade racer)

...all that said, I'd have loved for Burnout Paradise remastered to come to the Switch or even just re-release the WiiU version of Need for Speed Most Wanted - I know EA would rather stab themselves in the eye while shooting themselves in the foot than support a Nintendo console, but, I can still wish...

Re: Review: Ori And The Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - An Unmissable Experience

cyrus_zuo

@BAN Interesting thoughts. I also found Hollow Knight too dark for me and quit in under 30 minutes. There is already so much negativity in the world around me I look for games to lift me up, and dark broodiness doesn't do that for me.

I'm still excited to try the Ori demo, the color palette is lighter than Hollow Knight, so I'm hopeful, b/c it sure is beautiful.

If not, that's cool to, the best to all who enjoy the game!
There's plenty of fun uplifting games for me; from just about everything Nintendo makes to Dragon Quest to Ni No Kuni. Diversity is a good thing!

Re: Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training Is Making A Glorious Comeback On Switch

cyrus_zuo

@westman98
Mobile surely had something to do with it.
...but I think the fact that Nintendo didn't even do a Retail release says volumes about how well they thought it could do (and it also materially affected how well it did do).

We can watch the new game's sales and see.
If it sold 50% of the 2nd game (the first game is crazy out of reach) or 10x the 3rd game I'd say it showed there is an opportunity.

Re: Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training Is Making A Glorious Comeback On Switch

cyrus_zuo

@westman98 - the 3DS entry was a memory trainer instead of the type of brain training in the DS games.

The 3DS game was shockingly hard and frankly, NOT ANY FUN!

The DS games were great games, and this looks maybe a little too much like them?
I'm definitely down to buy another game in the series. I loved the previous ones on the DS, and forced myself through 15 hours on the 3DS game before I decided it just wasn't a good game.

I expect if this is done well, it will do well. If it is not fun, like the 3DS game, it will sell badly. Nothing too shocking about that.

Re: Warner Bros. Hosts Huge Switch eShop Sale, Up To 60% Off 12 Top Games (North America)

cyrus_zuo

MOST of these games are literally cheaper RIGHT NOW at retail.

Best Buy

  • Harry Potter - $19.99 (compared to $24.99 above)
  • DC Super Villains - $19.99 (compared to $29.99 above!?)
  • Incredibles - $19.99 ($29.99 above? that is the off sale retail price)

I'm sure Amazon will match if you don't buy at Best Buy (they may done so already).

...short story though - these prices through the eShop are highway robbery!
THIS IS NOT A SALE!

Re: Review: Golazo! - Knockabout Soccer Action Straight Outta The 1990s

cyrus_zuo

There are so many 'meh' soccer games on Switch!
I have Active Soccer, and it is 'ok.' That is, once you get through the super laggy menus and turn-off the auto-assists and manually get different colors for your mates if you are playing multiplayer. I wouldn't call it good, and this looks similar review score wise.

Then there is Super Kickers League, Super Arcade Soccer/World Soccer, Soccer Slammers, Legendary Eleven...

And FIFA "We hate Nintendo fans Edition" if you want to sell your soul to EA for a mess of pottage.

Nothing good though.
Just lots of hard to recommend games.

Re: Review: GRID Autosport - Finally, Switch Gets The Serious Racing Game It Deserves

cyrus_zuo

The comments here are terribly ignorant.
Granted, the review is partially to blame for everyone thinking this won't have multiplayer - when it WILL have multiplayer, just won't have it at launch.

Still the comments are full of Complain, complain, hate hate.

Seriously?
It's hard to read so much unhappiness - and doesn't help anyone or anything.

NL - you should update the review to state that multiplayer is coming. It won't stop the complaining, but at least it will stop the ignorance.

Re: Poll: So, Which SNES Games Have You Been Playing On Nintendo Switch?

cyrus_zuo

Played most of these back in the day, at least the ones I cared to play.

I turned on "Demon's Crest" based on the NL review - I just died over and over again before leaving the first room, definitely not for me.
I played ~30 minutes of Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts and LOVED the ability to rewind time. It makes that game enjoyable instead of uber frustrating.

I tried tennis for a few seconds, but quickly lost interest.

I may go back for Zelda or Mario, but I'd rather play a modern Zelda or SM Maker 2. The NES and SNES offerings aren't quite doing it for me.

...but then if they choose some of the cult favorites like Rygar and Baseball Stars on NES, or ActRaiser on SNES, my opinion would change greatly.
As it is, I've played these games in their original form, on the Wii, on the 3DS, on the WiiU... They are great games, don't get me wrong, but I wish there was more variety or that they'd pull in more forgotten favorites. I mean, why hasn't Contra NES ever been on VC? It was a HUGE game back in the day, but never on VC.

Re: Video: Get A Behind-The-Scenes Look At The Puzzles And Gameplay Of Trine 4

cyrus_zuo

I like Trine, I LOVE 9 Parchments.
I'm sure to get this, but likely after it goes on sale.

I really want to know how easy it is to play. The past Trine games felt so sloppy in controls. They're a mess of trying to make boxes and switch characters and angle your shield the right way while solving a puzzle that requires precision.
They were fun to play and look at the visuals, but the gameplay has often bordered on ridiculously frustrating.

I don't know if they can fix that, but if so I might go for a day 1 buy instead of waiting 6 months to get it on sale.

Re: Legend Of The Skyfish Really Wants To Be Zelda

cyrus_zuo

Looks INCREDIBLY JANKY!

I remember wanting to like Oceanhorn as a Zelda clone, but the game play. UGH! Why is it so hard to get the swinging of a sword right?

Looking forward to Link's Awakening - but I'm struggling to figure out how I can spend $60 on such a short game.
On the other hand, I'm trying to figure out how I'll have time to play Dragon Quest.

Re: NPD Reveals Top Five Best-Selling Zelda Games Of All-Time Within The US

cyrus_zuo

I loved the music and graphics of Skyward Sword. LOVED!

I liked not pausing to use items during an intense boss fight. FUN!

I disliked the motion controls letting me down in swinging my sword art different angles. UGH!

I HATED the overworld feeling like a dungeon. It was super constraining and I hated the first 60 minutes of the game (super slow).

All that said, the Ancient Cistern dungeon in Skyward Sword is my all time favorite Zelda Dungeon.
I'm glad to have played through the game.

Re: Soapbox: To Me, Mario Maker 2 Is Nintendo's Best, And Most Disappointing, Sequel Ever

cyrus_zuo

Couldn't agree more.

I was most excited for multiplayer and the offline multilpayer represents Nintendo's single worst interface of all time.

1) Go online
2) Download Level
3) Go offline and find downloaded level
4) Click 'Play' - no, not that play button, the special one on the right that doesn't look like it is even part of the screen

Online multiplayer is also a disaster, but the offline is inexplicable.
Why do you have to download a level before you can play it local multiplayer?

Why do the multiplayer online levels selected by Nintendo largely ignore the multiplayer tag and play levels for single player (and single player levels online ignore multiplayer and give them to you anyway?)
Why, why why!?

I'd gladly take my $60 back.
SOOO disappointed.
I much prefer the original.

Re: SteamWorld Quest Gets New Game+ Mode, Legend Remix Difficulty And More In Free Update

cyrus_zuo

I LOVE Image & Form, but couldn't convince myself to get this one. It looked downright boring, and the reviews for the game often used the words "grind" and "repetitive."

Those are big turn-offs for me. I don't have enough gaming time to grind (Pokemon is too grindy for me).

I read this article hoping that somehow those issues would be resolved, but nope.

I LOVED Dig and really liked Dig 2. Heist was my absolute favorite, I played through it a 2nd time with completely different characters and liked it more than the first time.

I look forward to their next game and hope they simplify back to the early greatness of Dig 1 and Heist. The newer games are getting a bit over-complicated and a touch on the boring side.

Re: Review: Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition - Finally, A Decent Baseball Sim On Switch

cyrus_zuo

@joey302 RBI 19 is worth a try, especially when the yearly sales come around.

Again, not for everyone, but the hitting and fielding are much better this year, if you want to play with MLB players it's worth checking out.

RBI has been getting incrementally better each of the last two years and this year crossed the line into 'good' territory. I personally think RBI is now better than Baseball Stars 2, though probably not as good as the NES Baseball Stars. (In my opinion)

Re: Review: Rise: Race The Future - Imagine Anti-Gravity Ridge Racer, And You're Close

cyrus_zuo

Reviews on Steam highlight bad handling over and over.
I was hopeful it might handle better on Switch (hopeful, but probably a silly hope).

I really wish NFS: Most Wanted was on Switch.
I can play it on the WiiU, but would love a high quality on-the-go racer.
Looks like I will have to keep waiting for something great. (or even halfway great)

I do like Horizon Chase Turbo, but I didn't stick with it very long and have a tendency to forget it, but it was at least mediocre (as opposed to the rest of the racers on Switch which aren't even that good).
