Re: Video: We Instantly Make Nintendo Switch Sports Better

cyrus_zuo

@AndyC_MK111 Bowling is too easy - and then you go online. Online you play tournament style where from the 16 players, half are knocked out every 3 frames. It's maybe the most fun online thing I've ever played in a Nintendo made game.

Bowling, imo, is a perfect example of why Switch sports is a tremendous online game.
No lag, lots of games, seriously challenging competition, tons of unlocks (none of which give you an advantage).

Online is truly a lot of fun.
I get that Wii Sports was a great party game with fun single-player modes (we had over 120 hours in the game on my Wii).
I think that putting that out again is what I expected here, and I'm glad that instead Switch sports is probably Nintendo's best online effort ever.

Again - mileage may vary, but when you see all the things that Nintendo put into online, then you see people reviewing the game based on offline - and totally missing MOST of the game, it's a weird disconnect. It's at best an incomplete view/review of the game, but mostly I just think people are crazy missing out on how good the game really is.

Re: Video: We Instantly Make Nintendo Switch Sports Better

cyrus_zuo

I love this game.
Sorry - but the online is fantastic! We've been playing the heck out of it - online.

I don't understand the hate - at all.
My guess is that people just don't like this type of game?
Not sure.
I'm a huge fan of the Wii Sports series, and honestly, I think the motion controls are better in the previous Wii games than Switch Sports (with the exception of the WiiU version as outside of Baseball and Bowling that game was a step backwards and online was a mess).
But - worse controls notwithstanding - this game recaptures the magic of the series - but specifically only in the online. The online is fantastic fun - and every time I find someone doesn't like the game it has been b/c they are playing it wrong.

MOST ALL, like 90%+, of the game structure is online. If you're playing offline you're simply missing almost everything that is great about the game.

Re: Reggie Thought Metroid: Other M Would Be A 'Defining Moment' For The Franchise

cyrus_zuo

His comments resonate with me. I have played through other M 3x. I've 100%-ed it (I've never played through any other Metroid 2x).

Still, with that said, it always amazes me how uninteresting the first 2 hours are. It's just not fun for a long bit, then, in my opinion, it becomes a ton of fun and the switching between 3D and 2D is an awesome unique and to this day unparalleled experience.

Re: Video: Is Nintendo Switch Sports Really That Bad?

cyrus_zuo

Your score and review don't reflect my feelings.

Online is awesome!
This is a fantastic Wii sports sequel that does online so well!

Online is the game!
... And it is a good game!

We've put in 10+ hours as a family into this in its first week. Maybe 20.

Honestly, I'm so, so happy I picked it up! It's been a long time since we had something fun and different that was also so well done.

Big win in my opinion.

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Wants Nintendo To Port The Wii U Entry To Switch

cyrus_zuo

I am playing through this right now on WiiU.

I find myself pressing the '-' button a lot so that I can swap the screens on my TV, I get super nauseous every time I try to look back and forth from the pad to the TV (the way this game expects).

I think the controls take away a LOT from what is otherwise a really fun experience.
I believe the game would be really fantastic if it just focused in on one control scheme.

Even with the two schemes it is fun to play - in my opinion, as I'm about 60% of the way through, I'd say it is a LOT better game than I'd been led to believe.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th February (North America)

cyrus_zuo

Moto Roader MC - that's a definite buy for me, and I'm excited for FAR: Changing Tides as well.
I think highly of Never Alone but have it on WiiU.

This is two weeks in a row I'm picking something up (Retro Bowl last week - which was worth the money!)

Re: Hands On: MLB The Show 22 Tech Test Impressions - Sony Takes A Swing At Switch

cyrus_zuo

I'm not sure what I think
I played it and the watermarks made it tough to play. The speed of the game was also a bit slow for my taste.
Visually RBI looked better, and it is unfortunate that series lost track of what it was doing and tried to be a sim instead of an arcade game.
I was super excited for the show, and maybe it improves before release, but I'm not sure it's what I'm looking for anymore.

Re: Feature: 24 Best Wii U eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

cyrus_zuo

I love much of the list - particularly Pushmo and Affordable Space adventures.

I highly recommend some non-exclusive games as well, such as:

  • Metroid Trilogy - you'll NEVER afford it on disc
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess - ditto above
  • Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - b/c, just b/c
  • Runbow - it's on Switch, but the pad mode is worth the double dip
  • Bomberman 94 (TG-16) - It has mounts, and WiiU supports 5 players!

Re: Feature: 29 Best 3DS eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

cyrus_zuo

Streetpass games

I have 60+ hours in streetpass games, they were one of my favorite things about the 3DS.
StreetPass Mansion / Monster Manor is brilliant.
StreetPass Fishing / Ultimate Angler is plenty of fun

StreetPass games can be played with just steps - which is important b/c I rarely ever get a StreetPass notification anymore...which is too bad, b/c that was an experience in fun not found anywhere else.

Re: Nintendo Of America Launches A Packed My Nintendo Store

cyrus_zuo

HATE is what I feel for the new store.

It removed WiiU, making it much harder to buy those games. They did it the same day they announced that shop closing, which means for those of us who were loyal to Nintendo when the world turned its back on them during the WiiU era, we now we'll have a harder time buying WiiU games before the money grubbing decision to shut down the WiiU store.

The new website is a kick to the teeth to loyal fans.
That Nintendo didn't care enough to even think about the timing with the WiiU removal shows how little they currently care about anything but money.

I HATE that the new store launched yesterday. Nintendo should be ashamed.

Re: Poll: The End Is Coming, But How Much Will You Miss The Wii U And 3DS eShop?

cyrus_zuo

So I wasn't upset...

UNTIL

I found they took down the ability to buy games for WiiU from Nintendo.com today.
That bites! It is SO MUCH MORE cumbersome to do it from the shop on the device. UGH!
I bought a WiiU VC game just a couple of weeks ago - I go to the Nintendo website nearly daily - I know that this just changed. It's one thing to close the stores, it is another to announce your are closing them, and then make everything harder to do after your announcement.
NOT HAPPY!

Re: PC Engine Classic 'Moto Roader MC' Is Getting Resurrected On Switch

cyrus_zuo

I liked the original Moto Roader - played the heck out of it when I was originally released - but it has NOT aged well.

That said - I'll buy this day one - even if it looks like a janky unplayable mess.

I love my TurboGrafx!
I wish TGX-16 games were available on Switch - but am happy I at least got them on Wii & WiiU and with the TG-Mini (awesome little console!)

Re: This Official Nintendo Direct Infographic Showcases All Its Reveals

cyrus_zuo

NO MAN's SKY
That was the biggest - "how are they doing that" moment!

I was shocked and thrilled by the Mario Kart announcement.
...and then shocked and thrilled about Switch Sports.

I remain excited by the new Kirby game!

I'm hopeful that The Show will be good.
I'll absolutely try Disney Speedstorm.

Just that list alone means I'll buy at least 3x as many games this year as in 2021 - and there are a number of other games on the list I'll probably check out (Advance Wars and maybe a double-dip on Portal for starters).
I think that was the best direct ever - love the logos to increase the hype.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Gets Its First Switch Gameplay Trailer

cyrus_zuo

Super Mega Baseball is easily the best baseball on Switch (I wish Nintendo had bought them instead of EA).

I'm very hopeful that The Show will turn out better than it appears in the trailer, but there is reason to doubt. I probably will still get it...but I may wait at release and have Super Mega hold me over.

For what it is worth, RBI also stutters - I shared videos of it on Twitter with the team and they told me it was my issue, but it is really consistent that once you are 6 innings in RBI's framerate drops.

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th February (North America)

cyrus_zuo

I LOVE 8-player games, so I picked up Space Party.
...I also had pre-ordered Retro Bowl after the review here (I would love more sport options on Switch, but am excited to try it out).

That makes this the rare week where I bought anything - and I bought 2 games - and still spent less than $10...

It's a good time to own a Switch!

Re: 'Zelda' Meets 'Super Mario Maker' In Super Dungeon Maker

cyrus_zuo

I don't know, I LOVE Zelda.
I was playing Skyward Sword this morning thinking just how much better it is on Switch.

...and what I love about Zelda is the exploration - it is the puzzles. It is doing something new and seeing something new. I STRUGGLE to go back to Zelda's I've played even though I LOVE Zelda more than any other series.

I fear a Zelda-maker misses the point of Zelda. It ends up losing the fun of puzzling b/c all the puzzles are the same and it loses the fun of exploration b/c it all looks like what you've done before.
That is what made 4 Swords (on mobile) a just ok game, and TriForce Heroes had the same been there, done that feel (in part b/c it was built on replay).

I just don't think Zelda is a good fit for the 'maker' series.

Re: Mini Review: Retro Bowl - An Addictive 8-Bit Throwback That's Appropriately Super

cyrus_zuo

I'm super interested in this and will buy.

I'd love to know how it compares to Football Heroes Turbo (and I guess I'll find out!).

Football Heroes Turbo is also retro styled, also has light GM/Franchise and it has an XP/Leveling system for the players (though the team leveling is broken - making it a real chore after you're 15 hours in).

I pre-ordered this - seems like a no-brainer at the cost, and I'm hopeful!
...I'm also hopeful Madden comes to Switch this year, but that might be just too much wishful thinking!

Re: Hands On: Rune Factory 5 Feels Comfortable And Familiar, But Is That Enough?

cyrus_zuo

IDK.
RF: Frontier was an amazing experience for me. I'd had a major hand injury and was able to play it and it was very healing to my mental well-being at the time.
It was the perfect game at the perfect time for me.

RF: Tides of Destiny was ok. But not quality.

I thought RF4 on 3DS was easily the most accessible of the 3 I'd played when I picked it up on day 1. I loved taking villagers out with me, but around 30 hours in I just lost interest, and honestly, I just don't know if I want more.

The journey of discovery is over, I've been there, loved it, and the minor changes in each new version aren't enough to make the journey feel new again. Mostly I just get nostalgic for Frontier. The experience of playing it was one of the best I've had in all my years of gaming.

Re: Megaquarium’s 'Freshwater Frenzy' DLC Is Coming To Consoles Later This Month

cyrus_zuo

I've had the game on Switch for awhile and it's fine. Maybe too easy to be super engaging, but easy doesn't mean simple. There is lots of complexity and tons of information.

Yet, as someone who had kept aquariums for 40 years and who always has a membership to the local aquarium, this game hasn't grabbed me.

Still, I'm excited for the DLC! Freshwater fish and fish breeding sounds like a strong update.

Re: Talking Point: Could 'Mario Kart 9' Be The Smash Bros. Ultimate Of Racers?

cyrus_zuo

The latest update to Home Circuit brought, essentially, the GameCube buddy mechanic to that game.

I'll be excited for MKNext whenever it comes, and will likely play the heck out of it.

It has been REALLY disappointing for those of us who bought MK8 day one on WiiU.

Since we no longer have a handheld and a home console from Nintendo the number of MK games has been essentially cut in half (sorry, but MKT is just no good - no controller = not a MK worth playing).

How Nintendo could choose not to do DLC for MK8 on Switch is insane. They'd have made tens of millions of dollars for a track pack.

All that said - I expect MKNext to be a release title for the Switch 2.

Re: Take Control Of A Transforming Supercar In Agent Intercept, Coming To Switch Next Year

cyrus_zuo

Looks like a lot of fun - not sure if it is really a racing game?

...as your comment: "during the '80s and '90s? These were often simplistic in nature, with plots you could fit on the back of a postage stamp and still have room left over."

...Does that also describe super-hero movies for the last 15 years? I'm not sure the 80s and 90s are any different than now in that respect.
