I think it has a slim hope in hell of taking the #1 spot. It would take reasonably long term further support, as in concurrent with its successor for a while, and a big discount or new budget model.

and we thought voicing Mario in an animated movie was a big deal! Whoever takes on the role of Link needs to just try and have fun with it and accept that they just won’t be able to win over a section of the fanbase no matter what.

Those of you clambering for a ‘more linear’ Zelda in the future are setting yourself up for a fall. Maybe the series has evolved beyond your comfort zone and it’s time to move on?

Unfortunate but not surprising. At this point in the Switch’s life it has such strong titles, some quite new, that have consistent sales.

Warioware would be more successful earlier in a console cycle.

I’m really curious to hear how many copies Pikmin 4 has sold when you factor in digital. Shouldn’t be too long till Nintendo give a true total.

Edit: 7th of November and I’ve got my answer. 2.61m copies so far. For what was a quite niche series, I think we could call this one a hit. Awesome.

I got 17. I really should’ve got about 21. I’ll never know the difference between assorted Fire Emblem characters and their brown leather boots though.

Having got so many additional tracks, I just don’t think we should grumble over what we didn’t at this point. Leave some for Mario Kart 9.

Nintendo should release a pro controller that competes with PS5 on a tech level. The graphics don’t need to compete entirely with PS5 or XBX/S but give me that sweet input.

Is it just me who doesn’t care about CoD? I might be wrong but I don’t feel it’s the sort of franchise most people are clamouring for on a Nintendo.

In my view, if a game doesn’t release in an acceptable state it doesn’t deserve my consideration. It’s a statement of intent, or lack thereof, from the developer.

If Nintendo are unusually smart about this transition, they’ll keep the current console supported alongside the new console for 12-18mths. It takes time to build a big user base so no point abandoning Switch’s; that’s still their main revenue stream for at least a couple of years.

I think it’s safe to say Miyamoto’s passion project has finally found a larger audience. I’m confident we’ll get a Pikmin 5 now.

The Switch is almost becoming a sort of Nintendo archive for me. I’m pretty much double dipping on every significant game I have enjoyed over the years. If Nintendo release Metroid Prime 2+3, WW and TP HD, and Mario Galaxy 2, I will pretty much have every Nintendo game I’ve ever truly loved all in one place. N64 era onwards that is.

@sanderev Nintendo have something a lot of companies lack though. Actual cash. Oodles of it. They laughed them out of the room in the N64 days. Nintendo can mess up for years and years to come and they’d remain financially comfortable.

How deluded is that man? Nintendo’s future is very healthy and happy ON their own hardware. Who’s looking at Nintendo right now thinking ‘Poor little guys: if only they’d let us help them’. Help them like their other acquisitions most likely. Rare suffered an almost complete creative collapse immediately following their switch to XBox.

None of them set my world on fire. I was hoping for a bold new addition, like Samus or Bayonetta.

It’s pretty telling that most of the things I’m picking up, or hoping for an announcement, are remakes.

We might get 1 or 2 surprises in 2024 but I think we can say Switch will soon enter the Winter of its life.

I think people are getting hung up on semantics, as usual. We all know exactly what is meant when Nintendo say they are transitioning to becoming more of an entertainment company. Yes, they have had other ventures with tv shows and mobile apps and figurines etc, but they have been very predominantly a video game company for decades now.

It is irrefutable that they have expanded their reach in to different, more meaty areas lately. Movies, theme parks, Lego even. They’re becoming more of a collaborative entertainment company.

I personally don’t feel TotK needs any DLC. It’s a lengthy and complete experience, and its difficulty is set a bit higher, negating the need for any Master Mode or whatever.

Sometimes DLC isn’t required and we should celebrate that. It’s becoming less common after all.

@michaelf I don’t expect any real info on the successor until early 2024. It will affect their sales in the Switch’s ‘last’ Black Friday and Xmas if they pull back the curtain on the next big thing.

The only way Switch will surpass DS is if Nintendo themselves are still actively supporting it during Switch 2’s first couple of years and give it a hefty price cut.

If they ditch it entirely, Switch will eventually settle at… I’m gonna say around 143m.

Hollow Knight is in a class of its own. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played, period, not just indie or Metroidvania.

I will absolutely buy Pikmin 4, but I’m making an unusually adult decision and holding off. I already have a few games on the shelf barely started.

Why are the sales counted separately for Atelier Marie on PS5 and Switch? Surely if it’s the same game, with (presumably) the same content then it should be considered as one thing for chart reasons.

This is a good thing. I must admit I’ve occasionally been concerned about when my Switch battery yields to its natural decline. Love switch, never owned more full retail games ever, very much want to keep them 😂

Strange how they’re suddenly able to put out a decent version now that they can’t rely on the FIFA brand.

I sincerely hope no one bothers buying this for Switch. EA have been taking the piste for several years now. Exploiting a user base shouldn’t be rewarded.

@mazzel I just have a hard time looking upon TotK’s numerous gameplay mechanics, interacting with each other and the physics engine largely without issue, as ‘gimmicks’. It’s a word too often used to disparage.

Not clear if anything major is due out in the next few weeks? If not, TotK will probably scrape another week then Pikmin 4 will take the top.

I’ve never had a Switch cartridge fail to initialise. It’s not a thing, right?

@deadmaker I still think PS2 will remain on top but Switch is gonna get within 10m. DS is like less than a million behind in sales so it’s not like Nintendo need to prove anything.

There’s a guy in the city centre where I live, Eastern European I think, and he plays some sort of fiddle / violin kinda instrument. It’s surreal walking down a Main Street with what basically sounds like Spiral Mountain or Gruntilda battle music. It’s the oddest thing but I get a kick every time.

If I was an exec at X-Box I’d love equal access to God of War, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Super Mario, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid…

but I’d also know I’m never, ever going to get it.

@EVIL-C If they were feeling unusually generous they could even let you download games on the new console if the platinum points from the Switch cartridge had originally been claimed to your account.

That seems a stretch for Nintendo though.

I buy physical because Nintendo don’t have the best track record at keeping their digital services available in the future (although I do think this will change as of Switch). I seriously would’ve considered this and MGS vol 1 but now I’m put off.

Done 3/4 of the lightroots and 138 shrines.

The shrines are getting tough to find now.

Y’know, a Zelda movie CAN be tonally different to a Mario movie, even if the same studio is a collaborator. Curious if Nintendo would take more of a hand in the actual animation etc, since they now own Nintendo Picture Co., Ltd.

Honesty baffled how people can play a game like this, quite clearly a masterpiece, and find it ‘ruined’ by small frame rate dips here and there. Priorities.

@KBuckley27 I think it’s a reflection of costs as much as anything; honestly, Americans have had a good deal for years. There’s been no price increase in the U.K., yet the new US price point puts it at the same bracket on the exchange rate.

Sega aren’t Nintendo. Nothing they put out justifies the price.
