Ah, look. The predictable silence of the relentless pessimists incoming.
Nintendo were never going to let this out in the wild without being top tier.
A few defiant voices in the press- that’s ok, everybody’s opinion is valid- but I’ve absolutely no doubt this is what I’ve been waiting on. A geeky NPC that doesn’t feature in most of the game won’t ruin a thing for me.
That’s a pity, but it doesn’t change the fact it’s a decent game. The narrative is worth it for TotK fans and it’s a Warriors game that finally runs well on a Nintendo platform.
I might be imagining things but the move sets and playable characters feel a bit more varied.
Also, Rauru is the GOAT, both literally and in combat.
@PinderSchloss then by all means vote with your lack of investment. Giving its chart position plenty of people thought it worthwhile. I don’t think they’re buying a zero out of ten game.
Not arguing that it’s not pricey btw, but the premise is also ‘buy upscaled versions of 2 of the peak games in the history of the genre’.
@PinderSchloss A zero out of 10 for anything that is a coherent entertainment product is madness; there’s a complete lack of sense there. Pricing doesn’t affect quality; it’s a completely separate consideration.
@Max_the_German @Ryo_Hazuki I have to say, I’m having zero issues controlling Yoshi in any configuration. I also feel like the Star Ball and Fluzzard levels control way easier than they did with Wii Remote.
I’m quite happy to hear this. The Hyrule Warriors games have always run pretty badly, especially in multiplayer. I’d rather they focus on having a stable frame rate, even if it’s 30, with the enemies actually populating in a timely manner. Hopefully Age of Imprisonment has consistency too.
@Telcontyr Honestly, if they’re new to you then you are in for an absolute treat. Combined they are a long and satisfying experience, even in 2025. I’d almost say ‘worth it’.
I think Sony and Nintendo have enough independent fanbases that they could both continue to do well, even if their products were occupying the same ‘space’ more.
I played the opening hour up to the base camp. I thought it was entertaining and worth a go since it’s free.
Sadly though, I’m just not the target market for this sort of game. I can tell I’ll need to spend more and more time in menus customising things and upgrading and mixing up all manners of things.
Lots of people like that but I don’t find it entertaining. Bayonetta 3 is about as much of that as I can tolerate.
@Princess_Lilly We can’t predict the future obviously, but I’ve read the minutes of annual shareholder meetings before and Nintendo’s top brass seem very good at batting away Shareholder questions and concerns and doing their thing regardless.
I’m in Sublayer 1200 and have around 190 bananas. By the narrative (fun and light as it is), I’m going to guess I’m about 3/4 of the way through the story. It’s absolutely delightful. It deserves mentioned in the same breath as Odyssey, Astrobot, all that good stuff. It’s probably an 8.5 for me right now; if it sticks the landing we could get to a 9+.
Not saying there can’t be problems with some units but not my experience. I’ve played handheld for perhaps 5hrs continuously and can report a noticeable, but not at all alarming, warmth building up.
Honestly, as a launch period, as Nintendo called it during Switch 1, I’m pretty happy. Some 3rd party things I missed are actually playable now on this console- Cyberpunk, No Man’s Sky, Split Fiction- and from them we’ve got
MKW DK: Bananza HW: Age of Imprisonment MP4: Beyond
and we’re STILL waiting on Silksong haha. But we’re on for 2025 allegedly.
I’m not made of money, nor do I have the time unfortunately , so that’s a huge amount of content. I can’t complain
I made a pretty good prediction about its release timing months ago, and the price was within my estimate. Saved very slowly for a looooong time. Any console is a big investment, yeah.
From what I gather the U.K. is a weak market for Nintendo, but the Switch 2 is its biggest launch success by quite a bit. It’s true that many UK gamers have an idea of maturity meaning Call of Duty and FIFA etc are what’s on the gaming menu.
I saw an estimate of 160,000 sold in launch week in the UK, and 200,000 in France (which has a near identical population).
If you pump that up to reflect, say, the US population, at 5x here, you’d be looking at 800,000. It actually sold 1.1m in the USA. So the British interest was 30% less than the American.
All a fluffy way of saying, they could’ve been better but they’re still quite good.
@Lizuka The sheer extent to which you can destroy the environment, and those changes remaining in place, is a very good indicator of the technical performance.
I don’t see it being an Odyssey or a TotK in sales, but maybe like a Splatoon in the long run. Which would still be a big hit.
@Otoemetry I can’t give you exact numbers but I don’t believe for a minute that Switch 2 didn’t perform very well in the U.K. over the last week. It’s had great stock levels too. I’ve seen it go out of stock and back in numerous times in the lead up to launch and since.
I would suggest that primarily handheld players make an effort to leave it docked for maybe a full day.
New devices sometimes need time to ‘find’ their full capacity.
I noted the other day that Mario Kart World on Online Elimination Race (or whatever it’s called) drained my battery by 30% in 45mins. I’d expect it to last 2.5-3hrs with MKW running at a pretty full pelt, based on this.
I have to say, I have not been conscious of Kevin’s Mario performance in MKW at all; I think he’s got completely in to his groove now. I could discern quite a notable difference with Mario Wonder.
If there were ever an advertisement for the (correct) theory that the internet’s famous negativity is a vocal minority of contrary super-‘fans,’ this is it.
Curious to know how many steam decks were sold in the last couple of weeks too. Feels like thousands of people were resolute that their disgust in Switch 2 had sent them to Steam Deck.
@Warioware A bit of both I’d warrant. Backwards compatibility on as massive a scale as the whole Switch library (which I assume was their initial goal) is not easy.
There was a video from the boss of Nvidia released yesterday. Backwards compatibility has been very much considered when designing the Switch 2’s main chip.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong's Latest Update Is Now Live On Switch 1 & 2, Here Are The Patch Notes
I’m essentially finished so a minor update isn’t going to do anything or me. I got the true ending a couple of days ago.
I have a few small things left to do; there’s 3 mask shards out there, a couple of tools, some spools and a couple of audio cylinders to find.
Not a priority now, but I’ll definitely dip back in now and then and have a look.
Re: ICYMI: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Estimated Switch 2 And Switch File Size Revealed
Nintendo should run Developer seminars on how to effectively build games for their hardware.
The difference between the file size of a 1st or 2nd party title and a 3rd party offering often beggar belief.
Re: UK Charts: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Slips Out Of The Top Ten

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Almost Had Mouse Controls, But It "Confused" The Gameplay
@Wewewi Buttery smooth according to all the previews. It would be a bad day if Nintendo couldn’t adequately implement their own control method tbf.
Re: ICYMI: Red Dead Redemption's Switch 2 Release Is A Free Upgrade For Switch Owners
It’s got my attention but the million quid question: what’s the switch 2 download size?
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment?
I wouldn’t want to score it until I’ve at least finished the basic plot. I’m 10 hours in.
I’m feeling a 7 or 8 so far.
Perfectly satisfied.
Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment (Switch 2) - A Stunning Slice Of Musou, Worthy Of The Zelda Canon
I’ve wanted to like Hyrule Warriors the whole time and it was always just not quite there.
Nice to see it finally on hardware that can actually run the thing and with a story that matters.
Re: Mario Kart World And Donkey Kong Bananza Shortlisted For 'Console Game Of The Year'
DKB was smashing fun (get it?) but I’m a Silksong boy.
Re: Nintendo Wins Lawsuit Against 'Pirate' Streamer Who Taunted Company Online
Bro is next level.
Stupid. Next level stupid.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
I usually go NA / Eur on these things (they’re designed purposefully after all). But on this occasion, it’s Japan for me.
Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?
Depends on the year! I’ve certainly bought more recently on account of Switch 2 being shiny and new.
Since June, MKW, DKB, Drag x Drive, Welcome Tour (I know, I know), DKB’s DLC, No Man’s Sky Switch 2 Edition, Silksong.
Re: Nintendo Goes Full Pixar In Strange New Animated Short Film, 'Close To You'
Perhaps it’s just a tech demo. It’s possible they’re looking to up their game and contribute more actively to the development of their future movies?

@Max_the_German @Ryo_Hazuki I have to say, I’m having zero issues controlling Yoshi in any configuration. I also feel like the Star Ball and Fluzzard levels control way easier than they did with Wii Remote.
Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Prime 4's Title Screen Go As Hard As The Others?
@notreallyhere Prime is canon to my knowledge. I believe they all occur between Metroid and Metroid 2.
Perhaps Beyond will buck the trend and be later in the timeline. Unknown.
Re: Review: KUUKIYOMI 4: Consider It Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Delightfully Silly, With Plenty Of Dark Laughs
😂
Kudos for keeping your word, even in the face of such absurdity.
Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Prime 4's Title Screen Go As Hard As The Others?
I still can’t believe Nintendo never fleeced me for Echoes Remastered and Corruption Remastered ahead of Beyond.
Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2
I’m quite happy to hear this. The Hyrule Warriors games have always run pretty badly, especially in multiplayer. I’d rather they focus on having a stable frame rate, even if it’s 30, with the enemies actually populating in a timely manner. Hopefully Age of Imprisonment has consistency too.
Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Reminds Me Of Gears 5, And It's Making Me Nervous
I’m not convinced it’s truly an open world section so much as it’s a very fancy loading screen. Beats the Elevators and Portals of old.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 For Switch?
@Telcontyr Honestly, if they’re new to you then you are in for an absolute treat. Combined they are a long and satisfying experience, even in 2025. I’d almost say ‘worth it’.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 For Switch?
I’ll admit, this one is a little pricey. I also want Galaxy 2 physical though, so I’ll take my rudimentary 4K upgrade and try find a deal.
Switch (and now Switch 2) are getting very close to allowing me to retire my old Nintendo consoles entirely.
For now though, Prime 2 and 3 and Twilight Princess and Windwaker are trapped on my Wii U.
Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?
It’s satisfyingly difficult, unlike some games. Each challenge feels surmountable.
Re: Rumour: Sony Is Gunning For The Switch 2 With A Handheld, Dockable PS6
If PS6 does go that route, they’ll do very well.
I think Sony and Nintendo have enough independent fanbases that they could both continue to do well, even if their products were occupying the same ‘space’ more.
Re: Poll: When The Heck Is Metroid Prime 4 Actually Launching?
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they’re aiming for a 2025 release and it’ll probably come out at some point in 2025.
It is not a very long wait whatever way you slice that.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Drag x Drive?
@Aeralto It’s not shovelware or slop though? It’s also not a classic. Things can be in between. I don’t think £17 is expensive for what it is.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Drag x Drive?
Why are people expecting a £60 experience from a £17 digital exclusive? Calibrate your expectations perhaps.

Re: Just Like With Switch 1, Nintendo Warns Against Using Switch 2 In Extreme Heat
My phones also overheat when it’s unusually hot. This is neither a positive or negative regarding Switch 2. It’s a reality of portable electronics.
Re: UK Charts: Donkey Kong Bananza Is A Hit, But Sells Less Than Half Of Super Mario Odyssey
It’s no surprise. DK is an icon but a neglected one compared to Mario.
This is one of those games that will continue to sell for the whole lifespan of the console. It’ll slow burn its way to 10m+ copies sold. Easily.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Bananza?

@Otoemetry I’m not going to reveal my actual age but I do remember when the NES was current. I’ve seen it all! There have been some real lows.
The N64 release schedule was DIRE in its later life.
Switch and Switch 2 will probably be their most consistent period of success here. Long may it continue.

Re: Talking Point: The Switch 2 Pre-Order Situation Sucks, But Can Nintendo Do Anything About It?
The U.K. has not had a bad situation so far as console pre-orders go.
I checked regularly on Day 1 and got one by the early afternoon. There are retailers right now who have stock: Game Collection, Very and Nintendo.
2 weeks to go and I’d say there have been hundreds of chances so far. No hardware manufacturer has ever done better.
Re: Nintendo Renews A Couple Of Metroid Prime Trademarks
@SirLink I think Echoes is the weak link of the trilogy: the dark world didn’t quite gel for me the same.
Having said that, Echoes is still a 9 out of 10 for me. I just love 1 and 3 majorly.
