I've long given up on the Switch version. Starwing on SNES has a better frame rate. I'm playing hundreds of hours on PS5, though. It runs great on there and this new biome is neat as well. Got one of those creakings back to my giant base, named him Fred. He guards my tree farm now, I guess.
Got Returns on my Wii since 2010. Not paying full price again for the same thing pretty much. Unless it's a game I physically can't live without having on Switch, or if it's an actual remake of an old enough classic, I try to not support full price ports with minimal updates.
UPDATE: Well, this aged like the finest milk. Let's run it down: I was so disappointed with Brothership, I sold it almost right away for a good price ...and needing something else to play right now, with that extra cash in hand, I unfortunately caved and bought this anyway. I'm definitely part of the problem, but I'd rather spend a bit extra to replay a game that is just cosy, simple and fun without any DLC or micro- transactions ...than give my money to any recent awful live service or overpriced unfinished garbage on PS5. Still ...I'm officially a hypocrite and I'm sorry lol
I got it physical just in case, though, so I can sell it if the regret sets in again ...That's why physical media is so important, folks!
Played a bit of it so far. Honestly quite disappointed. It's no Paper Jam at least, but I expected way better from such a comeback. Art style is ...different. Not sure if I like it. Plenty of lag spikes. Writing has fallen off a cliff IMO. The fact Luigi doesn't use B for selecting action commands is the absolute worst. He also just controls himself on the field now which I also hate, makes him feel like just a general AI partner instead of a second player character. Still hoping for a Partners in Time remake, but can't say I'm surprised by the somewhat lukewarm reception to this one anymore.
I've fallen back into a Minecraft addiction this week. Seems to happen once every few years or so. Spending dozens of hours on a massive underwater base right now, sand draining a chunk of the entire ocean by hand in survival ...and I've never even defeated the dragon yet. There is just something about it that never gets old once you return for a week or two ...or three ...before taking a break for another few years.
I sure ain't playing the Switch 'Power Point' version, though. PS5 actually running the thing properly, if at all, helps so damn much lol
Sure, Java is best and I'd like some shaders on console, but simplicity is king in my case.
I was, but a lot of recent reviews are starting to worry me somewhat, so now I don't know anymore. Luckily I didn't pre- order so I'll wait for more people to give their thoughts. Paper Jam really burned me last time after all.
Luigi's Rescue Operation is one of the best minigames I've ever played ...Not just in Jamboree, but in the entire series. It just nailed the whole escape room vibe and I loved it.
Just as @JakedaArbok said, though, the worst one is absolutely Gate Key-pers lol
Can't put Jamboree on a list like this already, fam. Also, this list is far from my own to say the least. Mario Party 1 should be way lower for one (It started it all but has aged like milk) and 2 is as overrated as always (It's just 1 again but good this time). 6 is easily number 1 and DS is number 2, then 3, then 2 and / or 5. Then the rest of the decent ones in whatever order you want (All my own personal opinion of course).
I definitely agree with the bottom six, though. They're all about equally bad, especially the 3DS ones unfortunately. Island Tour is probably the worst overall for me personally. That one was just miserable.
My own list would probably be as follows:
6 (Just S- tier Mario Party all the way through. I just love this game, as do all I've played it with. Will always be my favourite.)
DS (Best handheld entry with killer modes, minigames and boards. Download Play multiplayer was a blast back in the day.)
3 (The best classic entry. Underrated and unfairly overlooked way too much in favour of 2. Just pure chaos with the wackiest tone in the series. Peak writing, music and items.)
5 or 2, about equal. (5 is just plain cosy, heartwarming family fun and 2 is the one everyone knows. It's pure, nostalgic goodness.)
Superstars (Good remake overall. Nice balance of mostly everything you'd want from the series at its height.)
7 (Some great ideas but starting to rely way more on luck and randomness. Also very slow.)
4 (Spectacular minigames and great extras ...but the boards are just lazy and I never got the mini mega gimmick.)
Super and 8, again about equal to me. (Both are very uneven, with great highs and miserable lows. Both also got some good ...and not so good ...motion minigames.)
1 (First one I really dislike. Again, aged like fine milk. Also just plain mean and physically painful to play.)
9 (Getting to the real bad ones now. 9 is definitely the least offensive, though.)
Advance (It's very weird and should have just been its own thing.)
10 (Second most soulless, corporate Mario game I've ever played behind only Paper Jam. Nice graphics and some good minigames at least.)
Star Rush (Yuck. At least they tried something new I guess.)
No way it's the best. Nothing will beat 6 for me and literally everyone I've played it with. Nothing. Ever.
And we've played them all, by the way. I've got them all. Once 6 hits NSO ...you'll see. It's the best and will remain the best no matter how good this one turns out IMO. It might beat 5 ...maybe even 2 and 3 ...but not 6.
Obviously I'm biased, but this is a hill I'll gladly die on lol
Nope. I honestly expect the Switch 2 reveal this month instead.
My view was that if there was a Direct (any kind BTW, I expected only a mini) in September, the Switch 2 reveal would be saved for next year, but if any kind of Direct didn't happen (which it didn't) ...they'll pull a Switch 1 again with an October reveal for the sequel, with a launch in March or April. Might happen in just a week or two honestly.
Are those analogue triggers I see? If they are, colour me more hyped than ever. Also finally means proper GameCube support is possible! (If these are real that is, but it all looks pretty legit to me.)
I've never experienced drift on any controllers ...until the Switch Joy-cons happened. And some of my controllers have seen literal decades of use. My Joy-cons sure haven't.
It's a fantastic game and the team deserves all the praise. If you've got a PS5 collecting dust here's a game for you. Certainly made my 2022 purchase of the launch disc model more worth it, alongside Ratchet & Clank, which is another masterpiece ...and its great Blu-ray player lol
The launch model with a disc drive is more than enough for the next decade or so, though. Avoid the digital only and the Pro like the plagues they are. PS Store has a severe price monopoly.
I'm not concerned about Switch 2 ...If anything, Sony just gave Nintendo free advertising.
Nintendo has always been rather good at pricing their home consoles, unlike some others. Using cheaper hardware helps, but at this point there's not much of a difference to the average person. If they're smart, they want it to be as affordable and accessible as possible for normal, struggling people no matter the inflation or supposed 'component prices' ...because they know the more people can afford it, the more people will buy their games and sign up to NSO. Nintendo has always done their own thing and I don't see that changing no matter how awful late stage capitalism gets for all of us.
Astro Bot is a masterpiece, so well deserved. Most fun I've had with a game since TTYD remake. Also, no DLC or live service, no slog of a story or excessive length ...Just colourful, creative platforming goodness with amazing new ideas and gameplay gimmicks on par with Mario's best hidden around every corner. Finally made me dust off the old PS5 I've only been using for Blu-ray movies recently. Also makes me even more excited for the next 3D Mario.
Wish all non- Nintendo AAA games were like it. Hate the hyper realism, 5000 hour length and live service trends dominating today. Unfortunately, with the recent PS5 Pro breaking any straws left on the smushed camel, Sony has permanently lost a customer no matter how good this game was. It's just been a domino effect for years for me with their company and I'll just ditch it all in favour of just Switch 2 and nothing else next generation.
I was playing Anno 1800 on my PS5, but my brain got fried from the ridiculous amount of stuff you have to keep track of towards the end so I gave up. The amount of annoying messages and the terrible story with the most forgettable 'characters' I've ever experienced didn't help either. Playing with NPC's sucks too ...It's all just stressful and annoying without a pause button (that literally every other game I've played in this genre has, but this one doesn't).
That said, it looks great, sounds great and the core gameplay loop is quite fun if the annoying characters and NPC's shut the hell up and you don't feel stressed. Mixed thoughts overall. Still mildly recommended if you ditch the story after learning the basics and instead just play it alone in sandbox mode, without NPC's (thus without any constant time pressure). Might do that myself, but for now my PS5 will go right back to being a Blu-ray player lol
My favourite console of all time, hopelessly defiled like this. Every time I see a GameCube, especially its original purple lunchbox model, I want to protect it, and I want everyone else to do the same. It didn't sell a whole lot, after all.
Doesn't matter if it's broken either. It's just too cute and precious and amazing. This just makes me sad.
@MovieBuff Of course they shouldn't ...but they will. If people stop buying these basic remasters by the millions and their enormous profits drop, though ...maybe we'll get some better efforts and perhaps even a new Nintendo Selects line? One can dream ...
Of course it is full price. They charge full price because they can. It's a popular IP and people will still buy it even if it's just a cheap HD port of a Wii game with a couple of extras. Just look at Skyward Sword. Metroid Prime was cheaper because it doesn't sell nearly as well.
I'm not buying any of these full price remasters of Wii and 3DS games because I hate the precedent it sets, but millions will, regardless of the price and the minimal effort. It's a license to print money, so I get it in a business sense, but I will never support it with a single dime.
I want Zelda to have some of the 'traditional Zelda template' again. We can have both, you know. I like the 'modern' style, but it clearly has issues. Sometimes freedom isn't the answer in game design, it's restriction. One hand crafted solution can still be rewarding. Keep the freedom and creativity in the overworld but bring back those old, giant dungeons with their more locked progression and unique items ...If not, at least remake the old games for all the new folks getting into the series. My favourite Zelda games, even long after TOTK and BOTW, are still Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time. That's not just 'nostalgia' either as I only played through the latter two years after BOTW (Wind Waker has a lot of it though lol). I also know plenty of people who only played the modern games, then tried the older ones and found them better in many ways ...Mostly the dungeons, of course.
I'd be fine either way, though, as I'll always have those older games to go back to. If only I could play them all on Switch ...
Twilight Princess HD. Was very expensive to get my paws on, but I'd say it's still worth it. Never finished it on Wii but now I will. Getting some long overdue use out of my Wii U, the GamePad functionality is pretty nifty and it makes for quite the collector's piece.
UPDATE: Finished. 100%, all upgrades, items, bugs, stamps, heart pieces and poes. What a masterpiece and the polar opposite to Wind Waker. While Wind Waker is pure bliss with less focus on dungeons and more on wonder and light hearted, brave adventure across a vast and bright, colourful world, Twilight Princess is heavy, complex, epic, dark and truly terrifying, with the best dungeons in the series by far IMO. Wind Waker is still my favourite Zelda, but Twilight Princess has easily taken second place on my list. One is for childhood and carefree nostalgia, the other is for grown up responsibility. They're like the perfect yin and yang.
Ahh ...Wind Waker. Wherever have you gone ...Whilst thou becometh forever lost in the Nintendo vaults like Disney's VHS releases in the 80's? Arst thou cursed to be forever stuck on thine obsolete Wii U island of shuttered services? Whatever will I do ...If I can't play Wind Waker, neither can you.
Retro Studios has some wizards and amazing technology in store for us. Very easy to see why they got the reigns after development restarted. I'd recommend Digital Foundry's video on the stunning Remastered (and the game itself of course) for a deeper dive into just how much effort and wizardry they manage to squeeze out of the ancient Tegra X1.
@Edu23XWiiU They'll more than likely launch it for both Switch 1 and 2 next year. That's not a bad thing, it's just smart to do. Show that it looks great on Switch 1, then show it again on Switch 2 with ray tracing or in 4K or what have you. It'll still be solid on the current Switch if the remaster is anything to go by.
This also means no Wind Waker for Switch 1 is pretty much confirmed. Those 'rumours' and 'leaks' have scarred me for years and I will never trust them again lol
Guess I still have to drag out my Wii U for that one. It's worth it, though.
That release also pretty much confirms it is cross gen, but it's cool we still get it on Switch 1 and it looks fantastic for the hardware. Retro's got some wizards working for them.
I just want to play Wind Waker HD again. That and maybe a simple, affordable port of Luigi's Mansion 1's GameCube version on the eShop like Pikmin is really all I need to tie me over until Switch 2's big splash next year.
Though I wouldn't mind that Dragon Quest 1-3 HD-2D remake as well.
I've heard plenty of rumours of EPD Tokyo's project being a new 3D Mario (shocker) that may be fully open world and have the DK crew play a major role, hence the frequent whispers of a DK game by that team these past years. It'll also be there for the 2025 launch window, as most already predict, and will likely celebrate all things Mario with it being his 40th anniversary and all.
The second rumour I choose to believe is a supposed 'Mario Kart X' being 'Nintendo's most expensive game project ever', them trying to top 8 Deluxe and investing heavily because of that game's sales, with Bandai Namco's new Nintendo- focused support studio helping with development, slated for late 2025 if it's not delayed which it probably will be.
Mario Kart X also just makes sense as a name. Nintendo internally considers Tour the ninth entry already, so this one would be 10 or X. It'll likely feature characters from other Nintendo IP like 8 hence the crossover or 'cross', also X. It'll obviously have a big budget and will likely receive post- launch support for a decade as Mario Kart literally sells GTA numbers. They also need to retain the Mario Kart name as Nintendo Kart would just ruin the brand recognition. Everyone and their grandma knows Mario Kart, with Mario.
All seems pretty believable to me.
Other than that, a new Splatoon and Animal Crossing is a given, but is probably just a bit further out. Switch flourished with Zelda at launch and I predict Switch 2 will have Mario serve that role this time. Speaking of Zelda though, we may get a new 2D one and a few more remasters and remakes in the meantime but I bet it'll be quite a few years before that team brings out their next masterpiece. Whatever it is, it'll surely revolutionise the industry once again lol
"Excellent!", as a perfectly executed action command would say.
Here's hoping for a Partners in Time remake next ...and a true follow- up to TTYD with expanded mechanics and an even grander scale after that with more crazy characters and deeper lore. Maybe bring in some more of the style from the modern Paper Mario games as well, though ...I wouldn't mind that. Just make a perfect blend. You've got all the ingredients.
As a massive Mario & Luigi fan since childhood, I think Paper Jam is absolute garbage. Couldn't even suffer through all of it. Paper Jam sucked everything I loved out of two IP's with a legacy of taking risks and having stories with actual depth, creating a soulless, corporate husk of a game following the shallow as a puddle, bland and safe 'Mario' formula for its characters, environments and story closer than New Super Mario Bros.
Sticker Star is barely above it as I actually got through that one. Both are miserable, but at least some buried charm does exist in the latter, like that haunted mansion level.
Color Splash, though, I find quite good honestly. It's stunning visually, has my favourite music in the series, had some actual life again and the environments and writing is excellent. Huey the paint bucket thing was also an actual character and not just an annoying, unhelpful **** like Kersti. The only stuff really holding it back was the embargo on original character design, the gimmicky battle system and those stupid 'things' returning. I still encourage people to give it another chance.
But yeah, Sticker Star and Paper Jam both belong in the bin, with all other entries I've played in an entirely different league as actual fun, playable games (mostly). Nothing beats the original two, though, with TTYD remake especially improving the original in every way for me, making it my definitive version of that game (despite the 30 FPS cap).
Haven't played through Super or Origami King. Super is just too out there for me in terms of its art style and gameplay, and Origami King never interested me much, but I've heard it's quite good.
Of course, this is all just my own opinion. If you like Paper Jam or Sticker Star, I don't judge. Games are just meant to be fun and we each have our own taste for that.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door! We're back, babyyy! It's just as brilliant as I remember from childhood, but even better now. It was over half a year since I got into a game this much, or just into a game in general. Just speaks to its quality and the lack of it from most modern titles. One of the best games ever made in my opinion and this remake is so lovingly crafted it just makes me sit there with a dumb smile almost the entire time I play it, if I'm not laughing at the wonderful writing.
I'm definitely in the minority here, but I think the kongs will simply play a major part in a massive new 3D Mario that EPD has been prepping for Switch 2 for over half a decade now. It might be open world with inspiration from the movie and with playable characters from both series. Like a blockbuster crossover if you will, much like what I predict the next Mario Kart will be.
If only we'd get a Partners in Time remake now ...That would make me so happy. It's the only one I'm missing. I feel Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story could just get remastered ports of their beautiful 3DS versions, but PIT is the only remaining Mario RPG I really want a remake of.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd June)
Re: Zelda-Themed 'Hyrule Edition' Nintendo Switch Lite Launches This September
Imagine playing Wind Waker on that ...
Re: Reaction: A Direct That Delivered, And Shows That Switch Still Has Plenty Of Pep
It was great, but I wanted to finally get a Wind Waker port like a hopeless idiot ...so I can't rate it higher because of my own bias.
Re: Gallery: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Is Looking Absolutely Stunning On Switch
Retro Studios has some wizards and amazing technology in store for us. Very easy to see why they got the reigns after development restarted. I'd recommend Digital Foundry's video on the stunning Remastered (and the game itself of course) for a deeper dive into just how much effort and wizardry they manage to squeeze out of the ancient Tegra X1.
Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Confirmed For Switch, Launching 2025
@Edu23XWiiU They'll more than likely launch it for both Switch 1 and 2 next year. That's not a bad thing, it's just smart to do. Show that it looks great on Switch 1, then show it again on Switch 2 with ray tracing or in 4K or what have you. It'll still be solid on the current Switch if the remaster is anything to go by.
Re: 'Super Mario Party Jamboree' Rolls Onto Switch This October
Looks great and a return to form, but could use some GameCube boards as well ...and that name is so awful it's hilarious.
Re: New 2D Adventure 'The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom' Announced For This September
This also means no Wind Waker for Switch 1 is pretty much confirmed. Those 'rumours' and 'leaks' have scarred me for years and I will never trust them again lol
Guess I still have to drag out my Wii U for that one. It's worth it, though.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online Gets Four New Additions Today, Including Zelda, Metroid, And Perfect Dark
Four Swords is wonderful to see, man.
Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Confirmed, Launching 2025
This gave me a Bingo lol
That release also pretty much confirms it is cross gen, but it's cool we still get it on Switch 1 and it looks fantastic for the hardware. Retro's got some wizards working for them.
Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Finally Gets Release Date, I & II Remakes Confirmed
Thank you. Very cool.
Re: We're Getting A Brand New 'Mario & Luigi' RPG This November
HYPE!
I wonder who's making it, though.

@DripDropCop146 We do exist in the shadows ...only coming out for the occasional neutral quip or Picard gif, as we are the fabled forum introverts.

Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect
Oh, thank goodness ...I needed that. Been having a rough few weeks TBH
Wind Waker, please.
Re: Feature: 16 Great Late-Gen Nintendo Games - Maybe There's Life In The Ol' Switch Yet
Re: 'Among Us' Switch Update Is Supposedly Releasing On 18th June
Preparing my bingo card for the 18th, then.
Already kind of guessed that would be the date though lol
Re: Feature: We Look To The Past To Predict Every First-Party 'Switch 2' Release Until 2029
Re: Review: Overmorrow (Switch) - Intriguing, But Assumes Too Much With Its Save-Wiping Setup
Yup. Predicted as much.
I'll just go back to Paper Mario now, thanks.
Re: Japanese Charts: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Just About Beats Origami King
Re: Best Paper Mario Games Of All Time
As a massive Mario & Luigi fan since childhood, I think Paper Jam is absolute garbage.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th May)
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door!
Re: Poll: A New Donkey Kong Game Must Be Coming, But What Should It Be?
I'm definitely in the minority here, but I think the kongs will simply play a major part in a massive new 3D Mario that EPD has been prepping for Switch 2 for over half a decade now. It might be open world with inspiration from the movie and with playable characters from both series. Like a blockbuster crossover if you will, much like what I predict the next Mario Kart will be.
Re: Review: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Switch) - Still The King Of Mario RPGs
