Re: Nintendo 2023 Annual Report Reveals Director Salaries Are Still Modest For The Industry

Vil

Should be the standard worldwide lol. Nobody needs more money than this to live a very comfortable life. Imagine how many problems would get solved if billion dollar salaries split across entire companies and their employees instead of a single person at the top. That person can still make a few million, I get that, but no one needs or deserves more than that, ever, no matter what they do ...in my opinion.

When there is a salary floor, there should also be a salary ceiling.

Re: Feature: Pikmin Tier List - Which Pikmin Type Is The Best?

Vil

I will always love the rock and winged ones the most. It helps that I also think they have the best design. Then again, I'm biased, as Pikmin 3 on Wii U got me into the series in the first place and it still remains my favourite entry, in no small part due to those two cute little critters in particular. They're both perfect and flawed in their own quirky little ways.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

Vil

Finally got a new, non- port non- remaster Mario game so I'm all set. That's all I've been wanting for five billion years now it feels like. I never counted Mario Maker or the Wii U ports, so for me it's been a long, long wait, but all (mostly) worth it with how fresh and wonderful it looked.

Also, Mario RPG remake. Overall, I just wanted some Mario and I finally, finally got it.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Vil

Mostly done with all the things I wanted, like all shrines, lightroots, bosses, outfits, equipment, memories, the compendium (only missed the training construct which I guess I have to buy the picture for now), towers and sky islands. That final boss, while easy with how overpowered you could get, was still one of the most epic I've ever seen ...and the ending is wonderful. Still playing now and then and I still make new discoveries all the time. I mostly rushed to complete everything I wanted done so I could just relax with building dumb things and have fun with the world after that.

Re: Poll: Will There Be A June 2023 Nintendo Direct?

Vil

lol I think not. Third party stuff maybe, but nothing more.

No normal Direct, no Switch 2 until late next year and I may even dare say no more than maybe one or two unannounced first party games in 2023. Sorry, but that's my thoughts. They're gonna keep coasting on the Switch's fossilized hardware for another year relying on the two big exclusives they have this year alongside the decade- old evergreens and Wii U ports ...until the next generation arrives. Luckily, Zelda has lifted me up from my deep hole of bitterness because of how century- defining ...ly (Is that even a word?) masterful it is, but the Switch is barely running the thing at points, which is my only massive gripe.

Still, I have wished for something for quite a few years now that has gone from expectation, to disappointment, to desperation, to anger, to downright hatred, to indifference and now just ...nothing. An empty void inside, and it's simply this:

...We really need a new Mario game already. If there isn't new hardware this holiday, a AAA Mario platformer needs to be there ...A 2D one at the very least. I have zero expectations, though. I doubt I'll even watch the September direct live because of my continued bitterness lol

Don't get me wrong, though. I'm bitter against all the major companies right now ...especially Sony after their travesty of a showcase ...Which is why I always have my trusty retro collection to come back to ...and now Zelda again, I guess.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Players Discover Easiest Item Duplication Glitch Yet

Vil

Damn ...That's a very late game location. Guess I'll just disable updates until I reach it, then ...unless I get all the upgrades in the meantime. Nice to have an easy way to finish it off when you're done with everything else and just need that final stupid pile of Blue Lizalfos Horns or Warm Safflinas to upgrade your prickly frog underpants deluxe or whatever and don't want to spend hours grinding them up.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Squeeze Another Zelda Game Out Of TOTK's Open World?

Vil

The only thing I want is for these truly world class developers to finally get hardware that can fully realise or even run their vision without heavy compromises to both frame rate and resolution, or even just visuals, complexity, effects and textures in general, and not be stuck with the Switch's by now natural history museum- worthy specs. I absolutely love almost everything about the game, but that is not because of the Switch at this point, it is in spite of it.

I don't need PS5- level graphics either, just enough power to run things smoothly at least passing a bare minimum of full HD on my TV in 2023.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie DVD, Blu-ray And 4K Steelbook Pre-Orders Are Now Live

Vil

Can't believe DVD's are still around. They're the absolute worst current format by far to the point even streaming from the middle of the Australian outback would look better lol

Blu- ray is the same price almost every single time and it is infinitely better quality in every single possible way ...literally. Even the disc itself is more durable. I suppose those still buying DVD's may not have other options but decent Blu-ray players are dirt cheap as well now ...and that is not even mentioning the fact every single PS4, Xbox One S, One X, Series X and PS5 come with a quality player built right in.

Re: Video: Let's Discuss The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Vil

Sure. I just got off the premiere tonight. Big hall was absolutely packed ...mostly with kids.

Overall, I found it very shallow unfortunately. Hold your expectations way down to 'It's an Illumination movie' and I guess you'll be fine. I, personally, wanted some actual depth and character, not unlike the excellent Mario and Luigi RPG's ...which this movie lacked. All spectacle, no real substance ...in my opinion. Sorry.

It was stunning visually and the audio work was mostly great as well, though, and the references and details were all mostly lovely for a longtime veteran. I just wanted more ...depth and substance. Then again, I also understand that playing it safe was the best move for the first go ...but I do hope they bring some more story and character to the next one.

Overall, I'd say a 6/10 is more than fair.

Re: Movie Review: Tetris - The Blocks Don't Quite Line Up In This Mostly Fun Thriller

Vil

I liked it well enough. It's definitely over the top and cartoonishly absurd at times compared to the actual story, but most of the major beats I wanted to see are in there, so I had a great time. It is very fun if you don't take it that seriously and if you absolutely love the real life story behind it, like me.

If you want to know the actual history, check out Gaming Historian's brilliant 'Story of Tetris' documentary, which is still one of my favourite videos on YouTube.

I'd love another movie in this style about Sega and Nintendo's war in the 90's ...or maybe about Atari's rise to fame with Pong and the VCS in the 70's. That could be even more entertaining.

Re: Uh Oh, It Looks Like The Mario Movie Blu-ray Steelbook Release Date Leaked

Vil

I'll definitely get it on 4K ...if it's good enough.

4K Blu- ray is highly underrated as the quality can be sublime, if you get the right titles. Some transfers are garbage. I recommend checking blu-ray.com to see if it's worth it. Apocalypse Now and Back to the Future, especially ...are absolutely gorgeous. As a film lover, it's the only format where you can essentially get a 1:1 30mm transfer.

Re: Random: The GameCube & Wii Emulator Dolphin Is Coming To Steam In Q2 2023

Vil

As per usual, the word 'emulator' sparks a war in the comment section on here. It's not like anyone, especially Nintendo, is making a single dime off GameCube and even Wii games anymore, nor have they shown any indication of actually preserving or even caring about their huge library as of yet except in a legal context. If they were available on Switch, then sure ...but they're not. Who cares. Get off the Nintendo soap box and live a little.
