While I still have very big reservations about this game, there have been quite a few 3D Sonic games I have enjoyed a lot ...Adventure 1 wasn't the best, but its sequel was pretty fun and a true early 2000's time capsule. Heroes was not good IMO, '06 is an absolute travesty in every way ...but Unleashed ...Wow.
I played through it just last year after buying the backwards compatible 360 version through my Series S because of the lauded 60 fps upgrade, and with rock bottom expectations going in with how blasted it's been throughout the years ...I was blown away by how good it was. It's no masterpiece by any means, but in my personal opinion I think it is one of the most underrated games in the entire franchise.
Colours ...Well, duh ...Colours was good. Not the remaster, though. It was butchered. Then Generations ...The main acts were excellent, but a lot of the side missions were absolute chores ...Otherwise, great game. Lost World ...I tried pushing through it, but yeah ...It's not very fun. The controls were pretty bad. Forces, though ...Good lord above. What happened? Why, oh why?
So, overall ...Quite the mixed legacy for me. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt ...I've blasted this game ever since that awful gameplay debut, but I'd love nothing more than be wrong about this one. I still want the Sonic IP to succeed and not keep getting so terribly mismanaged by the very team named after it.
Still unbelievable how far this IP has come in just 7 years. I've yet to check it out though as I never play online and I just don't know if the single player modes alone are worth it for me ...
@ZZalapski Yup. I kind of dove in to the shark tank with this one ...I do like these games on occasion and I don't want to hate on anyone who loves them. There is too much hate in the world and sometimes you get caught up in it when you're not the right state of mind. That's what happened here today, but I take it as a very valuable learning experience ...So it's all good, if all the others could forgive my trespassing.
Well, this sure was a new experience for me. I do like to be open and express my own views and opinions, but I do agree I definitely went too far over the line this time. Has never happened before and won't happen again. Sorry, folks. I don't want to spread hate for things you love ...
@JR150 It seems I strung a nerve with my comment. Sorry about that, but please calm down, we're all friends here. I totally understand where you're coming from and I should've clarified that I meant the mainline series and not ports or spinoffs. If you only count those, then it's pretty much only Breath of the Wild and Odyssey. I also never said I didn't like Fire Emblem nor that anyone is forcing me to do anything, but if that's what was implied, I apologize.
Oh, come on, lovely people! Give the Mario Party trilogy some more love! In a year where the only new Mario game we got was a Mario Strikers multiplayer alpha test for full price, I think they are deserving of way more hype! 🌟
The legend of the Millennium Star returns to the mainstream after over 20 years ...
Finally, one of the absolute best games in the series gets its unbearably long overdue (official) rerelease. No longer are we stuck with just Mario Party 2 on modern systems over and over again, that game gets way too much hype and praise as it is. The third one's where it's at, and now you can even play it officially on the go.
Hoping for a review as soon as it drops on Nintendo Switch Online early next year! ⭐️
Yup, I saw that. Luckily I've got a Japanese Nintendo account so I have all versions of the apps. Definitely makes the price more bearable with version differences, design and just the collection aspect of it all.👌🏻
The entire N64 Mario Party series coming to Switch Online was the big highlight for me. I'm so happy about that.
Way, WAY too many JRPG's and farming sims for my taste, though. The direct was practically flooded with them. Could've been called the Farm Direct, Anime Game Direct or something like that.
"Don't care, don't care, too much anime stuff, too many farming sims for my taste, starting to get very annoyed now ...More Mario + Rabbids, not interested ...Oh! Here we go! Nintendo 64 games!
Wait ...Oh my god, please ...Please!
...YEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MARIO PARTY ******* THREEEEEEEEEEE IS COMING TO N64 SWITCH ONLINE, PEOPLE! FIIIIIINALLYYYYYYYYYYYY! I'VE WAITED SO ******* LOOOONG! I'M SOOOOOOOOO ******* HAAAPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
...And GoldenEye too?! Wow! About time!
...Hey, Pikmin 4! Neat. Looks nice.
...WAIT, WHAT?! THAT'S ...KIRBY'S RETURN TO DREAM LAND! HOLY ****! MY FAVOURITE KIRBY GAME! It's not Kirby's Air Ride, but I'll TAKE IT!🤩
ZELDA IN MAY! HELL YES, I KNEW IT!
...Wait, that's it? Still no Wind Waker or Twilight Princess? No Metroid? Awww ...😑"
...And that about sums it up for me. 8/10 would watch again.
Felt like half the games in the direct were these farming sims ...Great for those who like it, I'm very happy for you, don't get me wrong, but ...there were quite a lot of them, right?
Oh, nothing too major ...The second coming of Jesus Christ our lord and saviour would be nice to see ...Also total world peace and the cure for cancer. Just keeping my expectations somewhat tempered, you know.
@Liam_Doolan Haha! No, I was just embracing the hilarious idea of a Wii port in 2022 ...I had no idea people actually still want that ...Wow! Sorry for making fun of them in that case! 🤣
I mean, I'd like ...something, at least. In terms of core Mario and Zelda stuff (which is the main Nintendo- related draw for me personally), it's been as barren as the Sahara desert lately. And no, Ubisoft's annoying rabbids and the cheap, unfinished sports games don't count. Last time I had something new to be genuinely hyped for was Mario Party last year (which is still awesome, though could use some DLC boards). I'd gladly take a remake at this point, but I would love a serious upgrade to the Switch Online retro selection even more.
@TheSaneInsanity Sure. It could also be that the developers had a wonderful idea and wanted to bring the passion, but then all the heart and soul was ripped out by their publishers as they carpet bombed their game with these mechanics. I do fully understand a game needs to make money, but I think there are a million better ways to do it without turning harmful, like an in- game shop where you know how much you spend and what you spend it on.
Jeff Grubb sure likes to run his big mouth, doesn't he? Well, my expectations still remains a rock solid zero. I don't believe a word from any of these "leakers" anymore.
@johnvboy I do fully agree with you regarding drugs. Like Prohibition in the 20's showed, banning something completely tend to only make things worse.
Paying a lot upfront is something I get can turn off a lot of people as well. Of course it's all personal perspective and picking a side, fighting each other won't solve anything. I do get swept up in these things emotionally because I have had relatives who have lost a lot in these games, but not everyone does, and that's okay.
I do think the industry just has to mature. You're cool, man, and I wish more were like you on this site.
@johnvboy I do respect your opinion but politely disagree.
Ban might have been a strong word, but it is my opinion that these games have zero heart and passion behind them, they are as far from art as you can get, and they only exist to make as much money as possible. I want to pay to support art and quality, and some mobile games are amazing, but the fact is that the vast majority are free to play shovelware that wants you to spend as much money as possible or just watch ads, and these kind of games make serious harm to those who actually try. I've played plenty of these kind of mobile games, enough to form my own opinion on this.
It's okay to enjoy these games. I'm not hating anyone who do like them, I just hate what they represent. Some are more harmful than others, like drugs, some dugs are harmless and shouldn't be banned, others are dangerous if you try and then get hooked. I get that I may have missed that important nuance in my first comment. Sorry about that. You do get swept up in the hate mob very easily in these things ...
Very nice to see my biggest complaint about this "game" being thrown out. It better be as permanent as bedrock. Shame it is still god awful, but at least it can be called a game now instead of a disgrace to humanity, unlike 95% of the entire mobile games market, including Nintendo's own Fire Emblem.
Hoping and praying all this predatory gambling get slapped with bans, fines and massive bullet proof age restrictions as soon as possible. It has ruined countless lives worldwide to the same severe degree as drugs and alcohol, and almost destroyed everything good about the industry as a whole, and it along with all of its industry supporters are among the lowest scum of humanity.
