Re: The World Is In Such A Mess, Investors Actually Want Nintendo To Raise The Price Of The Switch 2

UpsideDownRowlet

@BaldB3lper78 Yeah, I know it hasn't even been out a year, that's the whole point! It's not at all meant to be a slight against the Switch 2 (Switch 2 is my favorite console of all time, so that would be odd for me to do). PS5 and XSX have had 5 years to build up sizeable install bases, so Sony and Microsoft can afford to see sharp declines in console sales, as the existing install bases are large enough to last them the 2-3 years before PS6 and Helix release on software alone. While Switch 2 sales are impressive so far, if Nintendo chooses slows the growth of the user base with a price hike now, then it won't be quite so easy to ride that out.

Unlike PS5 and XSX, Switch 2 hasn't secured a large install base yet, so it's much riskier for Nintendo to raise prices on the system now. With a higher price, people are going to be less willing to pick up the console which, while much cheaper than the competition, is not at all inexpensive.

If they really need to satisfy those short-term gains for investors, it would be safer to price hike NSO (unfortunately).

Re: Poll: How Do You Pronounce These Pokémon?

UpsideDownRowlet

Ones I selected 'Other' for:

Hydreigon: Hei-drei-ghin

Kyogre: Kai-oh-ger (Surprised it wasn't an option; I've never even heard a different pronunciation until today, but I guess I was wrong)

Kyurem: Cure-em (Kyurem is a doctor confirmed)

Shiitnotic: Shih-not-ic

Xatu: Sha-too

Ones I have notes on:

Arceus: I pronounce Ar-kee-iss, but going off of Silvally's ability The 'RKS System', I think the correct pronunciation Is Ar-kay-ess.

Nihilego and Yveltal: I change my pronunciation every time I read their names.

Silvally: Guys the etymology clearly includes the word 'Ally' not "Valley", get it right.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Play Zelda Games For The Story?

UpsideDownRowlet

I like having a good story in videogames as long as the gameplay still comes first, and I'll always choose good gameplay with lackluster story over lackluster gameplay with good story. If a game is just a movie where the game play is more or less just walking to get to the next scene, I don't care for it. There are plenty of games, like Celeste or Undertale, which find the right balance.

As someone who has only played BoTW and EoW as far as Zelda games go, the best analogue for what I want would probably be Silksong. Link can talk, but he would be a man of few words, just making short interactions with the various travelers he meets in a new land. There isn't a massive plot, but you grow to care about the characters you meet along the way. In the world, lore is hidden, waiting to be discovered, but never told to the player. (Also, side note: if there is anything the BoTW formula needs, it's a true ending. That's the best way to reward players for engaging with all aspects of the game, not making the final boss easier).

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th April)

UpsideDownRowlet

Hello everyone! This weekend I'll be playing:

Super Mario Galaxy 2
I'll be starting World 4 now. At least at this point, Galaxy 2 is clicking a lot more for me than Galaxy 1. Unlike Galaxy 1, I'm actually going after Prankster Comets now; I may even aim for 100%, but that depends on how I feel after beating the game.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Probably going to play for a while. I think it would be a fun idea to make a sort of island status update for some of these weekend talking points, so here goes: This past week, my island saw 3 new relationships, including one between my friend and I (as in my mii counterpart), one between Stan Pines (Gravity Falls) and Ragatha (TADC), and one between Noelle and Susie (both Deltarune). My Mii of myself actually tried to propose, but he accidentally got nervous and started talking about how the shady egg salesman down the road means everything to him. There was also some drama when both Kieran (Pokemon) and Frisk (Undertale) confessed their love for Kris Dreemurr (side note: my best idea was to make the Soul Kris' pet), only to both be rejected. At one point, I caught some Miis discussing the "true nature of the island", which I guess means they're becoming self aware, but typically the Miis just love to talk about felonies and Weird Routes. What will happen next? Find out next time on Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders
Usual online matches.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Re: We're Sure Nintendo Will Have No Issues At All With This New PC Creature Battler

UpsideDownRowlet

Oh come on, those do not look like Rapidash or Greninja at all outside of just being inspired by the same animals (are horses and frogs patented by Nintendo now?). Nothing like the handful of blatant design rip-offs seen in Palworld. And for the record, there have been numerous games with Pokemon-esque battle mechanics which have been left alone by Nintendo.

At least from just what is seen here, this game doesn't seem to attempt to shamelessly steal from Pokemon to the degree of Pickmos or Palworld.
