Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch on Switch 2 on 3rd June 2026.
The direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake takes our heroes out into an "open world" of sorts as they explore the environments outside of Midgar. It was originally released back in 2024 and is directed by Naoki Hamaguchi, who is also handling development on the untitled third entry.
Given that Remake only launched on the Switch 2 a couple of weeks ago, it's surprising to see Square Enix divulge the release date for its sequel so soon. Then again, we suspect the development for the third entry will be nearing its completion in the near future, so the company will want to ensure folks have plenty of time to get to grips with the second game.
Much like Remake, Rebirth will also include some streamlined features to make it more approachable for newcomers. Max damage attacks were showcased in the trailer, but we imagine the game will include a lot more options for those who wish to use them.
